2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

living if you're exercising 6 days a week, it seems highly likely that you're gaining muscle, especially if you SA your clothes are fitting better.

One lb of muscle is a third of the size go one lb of fat, so you can see just from the maths that your can easily lose inches but now weight.

If you're exercising, I'd definitely take measurements as well as WI.

INeedThatForkOff · 25/01/2013 22:33

For those struggling with slow losses, I will say that when I first did WW before having DCs, I used to find that I'd lose virtually nothing one week and then have a more substantial loss the following week without changing anything. I also used to have Saturdays 'off', so it didn't feel too punishing. That was on the old version though, and the idea of the weeklies is much the same.

What I'm getting at is stick with it, it'll come.

crunchie your crossing out shows up fine on my phone Smile and a belated well done on your weight loss - that's brilliant! You deserve a massive glass of wine treat Wink

I'm off to Birmingham tonight to a cocktail bar, then restaurant, then comedy club so am going to starve eat only pp bargainous foods all day in hope if minimising the damage. The problem is, I'm not familiar with Birmingham and I don't know where we're eating. I've offered to drive to hopefully if I just have one small, possibly virgin, cocktail at 7ish it should save points and help keep me focused on keeping track in the restaurant. It will be 1ish by the time I'm heading home so must avoid biscuit barrel at all cost!

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 08:21

Well the Chinese takeaway, was nice when I ate it. About thirty minutes later I had indigestion and then a terrible thirst. I woke up at 1am with restless legs! So the diet regime has changed my eating so radically in three weeks, that a single takeaway has a fairly detrimental affect on me! Interesting! Anyway. New day, I will be back on plan and ignoring my little hiccup. Smile

chillyigloo · 26/01/2013 08:47

Have a line: _

It's on the house. x

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 10:06

Thank you chilly! Had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast. Feel much more pious and virtuous than I did last night!!!! GrinGrin

CiderwithBuda · 26/01/2013 12:25

Grin at all the lines drawn!

Well done on losses. A loss is a loss. Just think of a pound of butter. That's what's gone!

And for those of you who are disappointed - are you tracking or doing F&H? The leader at the meeting I go to says F&H is not recommended at the beginning. You need to be very confident of portion sizes.

Sallybear - the restless legs and thirst will be from the MSG. Horrible isn't it?

We are sort of having Chinese here tonight. Sainsburys Peking duck and spare ribs for DH and DS and salmon and stir fry veg for me. With lots of soy sauce, fresh ginger and chilli sauce. Yum.

Last night I had chick pea pasta with smoked mackerel, cherry tomatoes and Philly with garlic and herbs. It was nothing to write home about! I only ate about half of it. Had three glasses of wine too. And then half a packet of wasabi peas. Which I can't find the points for. Am kidding myself it can't be too bad! Finished my evening with a mug of peppermint tea.

Breakfast today was a crumpet with golden syrup and a banana. Had an apple mid morning. Starving now. Off to forage for lunch.

NoWayNoHow · 26/01/2013 13:14

hi all

Loving the line drawing - I sense a new MN trend starting! Wink

With my loss, or lack thereof, I did F&H first week and.tracking 2nd week, but no discernible difference in loss. Also, have done WW on and off for years, both on old points and new pp, and have never had such a dire start, especially when I'm over a stone overweight.

I am starting to wonder if there's more going on. I put on 7lbs in 10days just before starting WW - have never experienced gain like that. Also (TMI alert) my period has gone haywire after 5 years of predictability, and I've also developed gallstones.

I was speaking to a friend who said I might want to get checked out for PCOS as these are all symptoms, as is maintaining weight not losing when on a "diet".

starting to wonder if she has a point Sad

Livinginorganisedchaos · 26/01/2013 13:15

Thanks Addicted and NoWay for the support. I am feeling much less fed up today. I read some interesting articles on the science behind weight loss which I found on the WW website. Basically it was pointing out after the initial weeks any weight loss greater than 2 lbs will include muscle. Given I have been doing resistance training to tone up and build muscle, it stands to reason I will not be losing more than a pound or two.

I have realised I am okay with that. I am not looking for a quick fix as I want to be able to maintain the weight I get to without feeling that I am constantly dieting.

Sally - I had a similar experience yesterday as I decided to treat myself to a donut as I had been craving for one all week and then didnt enjoy it at all and actually felt a little sick. It was a really good use of points as it has cured my cravings for cakes for hopefully some time!

onthemetro · 26/01/2013 13:27

Gained half a pound this week :( I'm really disappointed, but am trying to get over it! DP lost a pound and he was a bit disappointed but at least he lost Grin
Can I have a crunchie line to draw under this week please? Grin

Bought myself the deluxe starter pack seeing as it's still £19.99, think it's really going to help. The journal is really good, as is the supermarket points book. I've made three pacts this week: I'm going to make more of an effort to cut down on snacking, drink more water, and move more. Smile

NoWay maybe you should see your doctor just to make sure. My best friend has PCOS and found it really difficult to lose weight, but she did eventually lose over 5 stone so maybe things'd be easier for you once you get some support, that's if you do have PCOS.

Buda, is golden syrup nice with crumpets? I was about to have the same last night but thought it'd be horrible! Grin Starting to rethink that now!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 26/01/2013 13:44

Onthemetro here you are

-------

I'm going out for a meal tonight so I've had porridge with skimmed milk for breakfast plus 0 point soup and a slice of bread for lunch. AND I even went to Saturday morning picture show and didn't have any sweets/ice cream. Am very proud.

Was supposed to be going for Chinese tonight. but now it's Italian so I should be able to make some good food choices and drink more wine Wink I struggle with Chinese anyway as I get crampy legs and my heart beat goes all strange. Perhaps that's the MSG?

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 13:45

Metro syrup golden or maple is lovely with crumpets. The other thing I do on the F&H is have two crumpets with mashed banana on for breakfast. It keeps me going until lunchtime. I really don't snack now. If I feel the urge I have a drink instead or a piece of fruit. The first week on F&H I ate loads, I have definitely not needed to eat as much in subsequent weeks. I have also still been able to have peanut butter (love it), by scraping a tspn of it on a hot crumpet. Amazing how far that goes!

The thing I have found with the F&H is that you need to cook. You can't do it with ready meals, branded snacks or bought sandwiches salads etc. you have to cook from scratch. That could be problematic for someone who's lifestyle makes that hard. But there are shortcuts.

The MSG thing was horrible. I was reading how someone who had several near fatal heart attacks found that she couldn't eat MSG. She had a takeaway curry and ended up in hospital with palpitations. Makes you realise the crap that you ingest without realising.

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 13:48

Blimey Crunchie. That was spooky that we were talking about the same thing!

jazzcat28 · 26/01/2013 14:01

Well had a loss of 2lb this morning but whilst that's good I'm a little miffed as expected more (it's been a fortnight since I weighed).

However I have had a very indulgent week, all within my daily and weekly pp allowance. I've had chips, haribo, wine, curry and a meal out. So I guess 2lb is great considering. 6.5lb off in total since 5th jan.

didireallysaythat · 26/01/2013 14:10

I'm sheepishly checking in today - put on 1.5lb at my weigh in and didn't think I could show my face again.... only myself to blame.... and I've just had a slice of xmas cake which probably isn't 0pp..

But no time to wallow - I'm taking inspiration from everyone else getting back on the horse.... Going to make hot and sour soup for lunches next week.. yummy !
And I think I've found a crafty way to sneak some exercise into my life...

Keep up the good work !

CiderwithBuda · 26/01/2013 15:47

Onthemetro - the golden syrup was ok on the crumpet. Only thing I noticed is that I was hungrier than normal this morning afterwards. I think it is the quick blood sugar high from crumpet, syrup and banana. Think I will stick to low fat Philly or peanut butter.

Nowaynohow - 7lbs in ten days is a lot to gain. Being totally honest do you think it is right? I gave up on WW over Xmas and new year for probably almost a month. Ate and drank loads. Denied myself nothing. And I only gained 4.5 lbs. Might be worth getting checked at doctor. If it is PCOS low-carbing is very good. In the meantime try cutting out refined carbs. Or what I call crwp carbs. I did that a few years ago and it worked well. I still try to do that within WW. Crumpets excepted! And I am planning on ditching them as soon as current pack is finished.

Basically - no wheat or sugar or processed foods. I would have porridge with blueberries and skimmed milk for breakfast. Sometimes a low sugar granola instead with natural yoghurt. German style rye bread for lunch if I was having bread. Or salads - big hearty ones with protein. Snacks would be protein or oatcakes with hummus or peanut butter or low fat Philly. No diet foods other than plain low fat dairy. No sweeteners. A healthy home cooked dinner like a curry or stew or casserole but no pasta or rice. Ocassionqlly brown rice but I tried to avoid carbs in the evening other than veg. If we had a roast I would have one roast potato but lots of veg.

You could try that for a week and see how you feel and if it helps.

MadInfoScientist · 26/01/2013 16:10

Can i join you all?? It's a huge thread...but at least it's more active than the online WW community.

I am back to WW. I lost 3.5 stones about 4 years ago, and managed to maintain for a while, but in the last year or so, the weight has started to creep back on. I only have about a stone left to lose, and I'm using the online approach rather than going to meetings. I really like the new approach...I'm only tracking the non F&H stuff, and not counting. When I lost the weight before, I used the core, which was basically the same...no counting points, just eating from an 'approved' list. I find that the new approach is much more flexible (WW Bread is actually part of F&H, so I can have a sandwich now and then!) and there are more weekly points than there was when I was doing the core.

I've lost 6 lbs so far...I've been doing it since 29th December.

Glad this group is here!

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 18:42

Hi all - welcome to new losers tooSmile

I am off out tonight for a meal with WI tomorrow - have not eaten too much so far today and have saved all my weeklies - am hoping to keep the wine to a minimum and eat sensibly Grin Grin Grin

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 19:11

I've just made a fabulous dinner. Chicken breast marinaded in fines herbs and crushed garlic with 2tspn of olive oil. Pan fried in a dry pan with some whole cloves of garlic in their skins and sliced mushrooms. Meanwhile I boiled new potatoes in their skins, when cooked I stirred in a dressing of 1heaped tspn whole grain mustard, 1 dst spn white wine vinegar and 2tspn olive oil, seasoning and then crushed with a fork. Served with a rocket salad. Delicious.

INeedThatForkOff · 26/01/2013 19:55

Sally that sounds amazing, and not a 'lite' ingredient in sight.

Welcome aboard, Scientist, and congrats on the weight loss already Smile

onthemetro · 26/01/2013 20:10

Welcome Scientist! 6lbs already is fab Grin

Sally that sounds rather amazing. I love potatoes with wholegrain mustard, I often mash some into jacket potatoes when I have them. I'm having spaghetti bolognese, I'm absolutely starving so I hope DP hurries up, he's been slaving away in the kitchen while i've been MNing working.

Ooh, I've actually made some effort to get exercising today - I played Just Dance for an hour! Doesn't sound like much at all but I couldn't even speak through most of it, it's harder than it seems. Either that or I'm really quite unfit Grin

SallyBear · 26/01/2013 21:01

The lack of "lite" ingredients can be justified by the fact that I did all that for four people! Anyway it was yummy, and not a hint of MSG to be hadGrin

Please don't ask me to work out the points, as its all a bit pointless (haha) for me as doing the F&H means that technically I only needed to point 2tspns of oil as the other 2tspns are free as they're healthy oils iyswim.

INeedThatForkOff · 26/01/2013 21:27

Ooh, looking forward to having time to exercise again - work will be finished by 17th Feb so after that I'm on it!

OP posts:
MadInfoScientist · 27/01/2013 07:35

Thank you!! It's been ok doing it all online, but the support here might keep me ticking along. I WI on Fridays.

NoWayNoHow · 27/01/2013 07:54

Morning all (and I do mean morning - been up since 6:15 cos of DS!)

Onthemetro and didireally, sorry for your gains, but what positive attitudes!

Jazzcat, congrats on the loss

Cider - thank you so much for taking the time to write all the down for me. I've written all your points in capitals whilst making next weeks shopping list, so I will se how I get on and if it makes any difference. I won't be counting pp as the diet is quite restrictive, and it would feel just that one step too controlling. Just a quick questions - I don't eat artificial sweeteners anyway cos of my gallstones, and have the new herbal Stevia sweetener instead. Would that be okay? I ask because I rely on decaf coffee and decaf tea for my fluids (hate water) but I just can't have coffee without something to sweeten it. Ditto with porridge oats (I normally sprinkle a bit of stevia on it).

Scientist, welcome! Everyone on this thread has been so supportive of each other, I hope you find it the same!

BigTilly, hope you have a great night last night!

Sally, your chicken sounds amazing. Might try that.

Feeling really, really rotten today - the nasty cold that has been lingering for the last few days has lodged itself in my sinuses. I can actually feel pain all the way from my temples down the right ride of my jaw. Yuk.

Out for lunch today (using some Strada vouchers that they gave us for cocking up DHs birthday reservation earlier int eh month) so will try to choose something with no carbs. Then out for dinner tomorrow night to Jamie's Italian - have already been online and chosen the baked salmon with roasted veggies, which should fit in with WW AND low carbing!

I fear this is all going to be too much for my tiny brain to remember!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!
