2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

My couscous and bulghur wheat recommendation is ignore the instructions on the pack! Boiling and draining is a faff. Just put it in a bowl, cover with boiling water to about twice its depth, cover with a cloth and leave for 5 mins (couscous) or 10 (bulghur). Then just fluff it up and add what you like.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 16/01/2013 13:50

Blush ok thanks Celtic and you're right, 1/4 of a stone is quite good really...hadn't thought of it like that. Thank you. Thanks

SallyBear I want to try and make BNS, sweet potato and ham soup. I reckon I should roast a BNS (as per your soup recipe) with some sweet potato, mush up, add stock, season, simmer, whizz up then add chunks of ham. Do you think that would work? Free on F&H too?

Vajazzler · 16/01/2013 13:55

Chillyigloo I have tried the ww dairy spread and it tastes nice but doesnt melt! It just sits there. Even in mashed swede it doesnt melt. I darent look at the ingredients list lol!

LegoAcupuncture · 16/01/2013 14:18

Well done on the losses everyone.

Vajazzle, don't worry about the gain. Don't forget you lost 7 stone previously! So it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

I have been so good today! Took ds3 to soft play after nursery and then my evil sister decided to go to this lovely bakery along from it for some lunch. Got stuff to take home rather than sit it, nothing for me and I've just had soup.

Go me!

FrogsgoLaDiLaDiLa · 16/01/2013 14:49

Well done on the losses everyone and 3lb is brilliant. I'm not sure if this would work for anyone else as it is very much all in my head but you never know...

Now I'm in the US everything is done in lbs. I hated it at first but now I'm really liking it as I feel like I see any losses more quickly. I know it's only in my head but when it feels like the stone number isn't changing for weeks even when I'm losing lb, I can get dejected but the gradual lowering of one big number seems to help me keep motivated. It possibly also helps as I'm not great at the conversions so I am slightly less aware of my weight at the moment-a good thing as it is at an alltime high Sad

Crunchie you are completely right and I would love an amazing bum! Unfortuantely it snowed last night so running would be a bit lethal today. I am going to Shred today instead whilst the cat isn't here to attack me(I get about 1 minute into it before he starts attacking my feet!)

Does anyone know the AP of The Shred? There are some video workouts included on the tracker but sadly Shred isn't one of them.

SallyBear · 16/01/2013 14:58

Crunchie. Bake your sweet potatoes with your BNS. It will be quite sweet though.

Mushroom soup is yummy.

If you like soup, try this.
One small onion chopped and sauteed in frylight. Don't let it brown.
Add a bag of Spinach Rocket and Watercress leaves, stir and put the lid on. Allow to sweat over a gentle heat. Add a large peeled cubed potato to the green stuff, add a pint of stock. Season. Cook until the potato is soft. Allow to cool and blitz with a hand blender. Add a spoonful of 1/2 fat creme fraiche. Serve warmed through.

onthemetro · 16/01/2013 15:55

OMG Chilly, that's crazy! But just goes to show how wildly different different scales can be. I've put away my bathroom scales now and I'm not going to worry about it - I'm eating well, doing exercise, and feeling good, and that's all that matters Grin

Just got back from uni - I walked there, uphill, leaving my lungs burning at the top Grin I usually do anything to avoid it but I did it today and it wasn't THAT bad! Then I went into town with a friend, and walked there and home. Did about 7,000 stops in total and I'm really pleased with myself for not catching a single bus! Did go to Starbucks, but had a skinny vanilla latte that came out at 2pp and then had a Boots Shapers strawberry nougat bar for 2pp. Talked to my friend about WW and wanting to lose weight and we've decided we're going to go to the gym together, I'm so excited because I've never had a gym buddy!

Making soup in the slow cooker as I type - we bought a reduced whole chicken and have made three meals out of it, now we've put the bones in the slow cooker along with the last bits of meat, new potatoes, carrot, onion, garlic and stock and I'm hoping it's going to come out nice :)

Well done on the loss Sally! And sorry to hear about the gain, Vajazzler, but like others have said the most important thing is that you're ready to lose it Grin

Frogs I much prefer lbs, but they seem to just do it in stone...unless this can be changed? I'm no good at conversions and don't like stones & pounds because I don't really understand it Grin

MagdalenVanstone · 16/01/2013 15:59

Vajazzle, sorry to hear you feel blue about your gain...please remember you are inspiring so many of us

SallyBear · 16/01/2013 17:00

Grilled Rainbow trout stuffed with fine herbs, Jkt potato and salad for dinner tonight. Hoping to get away with a couple of points on dressing.
DD bought home cheese scones that she'd made in cookery today. "Try one mum. What do you think?" Very nice, as I'm sitting there thinking about the points I'm consuming....

CiderwithBuda · 16/01/2013 17:19

Hello everyone. This is a busy thread now! Smile

Vajazzle - bummer on the gain but you will probably lose it quite quickly. I've noticed that with a sudden quick gain it goes quite quickly when yu get back on track. It's new fat and hasn't managed to grow those strong tentacles that older fat has! Back on track. Drink loads of water. Avoid any processed foods with salt and e numbers etc.

Addicted - 3lbs is a great loss. Don't knock it!

Frogs - I want to do Couch25k too. Need to lose a bit more first though. Have dodgy knees anyway - running on them at this weight would not be good. I'm hoping to do it with DS when the evenings get a bit brighter.

I'm feeling a lot more positive and in control still. Went to PTA meeting last night and treated myself to a glass of wine when I came back. Stuck to one though.

Breakfast today was a crumpet and a banana.
Had a yoghurt and a pear mid morning.
Went into town and ended up having lunch in Costa - egg sandwich which was 9pp and I fancied a biscuit so bought the lowest calorie item I could see which was a pack of two oat and raisin biscuits. Worked out the points after I ate one - 4 points! I only had one! 8 points for two biscuits would be a nightmare.

Then this afternoon I succumbed to a slice of Xmas cake. Didn't eat the icing though.

Dinner will be chicken curry and I might try that cauli rice.

lilibet · 16/01/2013 18:09

Hello everyone. Can I join the party a bit late? When I joined WW last year I had a look on here for a thread and it seemed very quiet. i don't look for a fortnight and this is what happens!

So, I have so far lost 9lb, my first goal is to loose at least another 16 lb because 15 weeks on Friday I have a big birthday (whatever you're thinking it's probably bigger than that ) and I will be 10 stone something by then Grin

CelticPromise · 16/01/2013 18:27

No worries Addicted, you can do the same for me one day. Smile

Vajazzler don't be down, I bet it will come off faster than you think. We're all with you!

I've made leek, chicken and mushroom soup for tonight, about 5 points a portion but it looks very filling. Also been for a run, but I'm always disappointed in the APs I get because I'm so sloooow!

Have a good evening all.

CelticPromise · 16/01/2013 18:28

Welcome lilibet and well done on the 9lb!

onthemetro · 16/01/2013 19:17

Welcome lilibet! Well done on the 9lbs, that's great Grin

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself as I've just had to cream and bandage up the really bad eczema I have on my arm and hand. It stings so much but this is pretty much the only thing that works for it so I have to persevere but oh god I just want to sit here and cry because of the pain!

Your soup sounds lovely, celtic. I was thinking of making a sort of pie with similar ingredients, using a short crust pastry roll I have in the freezer. Not sure on the points of that though, ha.

Just had loads of pineapple and kiwifruit, I usually only 'endure' fruit iykwim but I genuinely like those two which can only be a good thing! Felt v.smug sitting here with my fruit as DP ate his Hobnobs!

didireallysaythat · 16/01/2013 20:41

AddictedtoCrunchies ooh ooh I can help with the couscous question as its my sort of cooking. If you weigh out two portions (120g) into a bowl, leave the bowl on the scales, zero them then add 190-200ml boiling water. Cover with a plate. Five mins later its done. Then add as many zero point things as you can find. I'm a capers and those peppers in jars fan.

My wi is tomorrow but I'm not confident. I've tracked on and off... What I need to do is track the week in advance and then just eat that...

I did a week 4 run and froze. Why are the 5 minute runs always up hill ?

AddictedtoCrunchies · 16/01/2013 21:19

Thanks everyone - I think I love you all Thanks

I was umming and ahing all afternoon as to whether to go for a run as it was so chuffin cold but I did and I managed 4.3 miles in 46 minutes so I'm very pleased. I earned 4 AP to add to the 3 I earned today from walking the school runs so I celebrated with a Kitkat.

I've made my soup - just need to whizz it up. It's sort of mushroom and chicken with a few veg thrown in too. Plus some 'erbs and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Let's see what it's like!

FrogsgoLaDiLaDiLa · 16/01/2013 21:37

Hello lillibet Wow you're over a 1/3 of the way there already!

Mmmmm carrot soup for lunch today-very tasty but really need to go out and get some oil spray as I'm having to add oil and whilst a bit is good for you, it feels like wasted points. Are any oil sprays ok or is there a specific one I should get?
I'm feeling a bit peckish but we're going out for supper this evening and I want to have as many points as possible for that so maybe it's mango and strawberry salad time.

Cider I couldn't go out today as the weather was so horrible. Shred is too much still at the moment so I was looking at what videos they have AP for on the tracker over here and I came across walking aerobics.
www.walkathome.com/ (the video is in the bottom left hand corner)

I thought it would be quite easy so just did in my normal clothes but it def raised my heart rate and I was regretting not having a sports bra on! The woman is seriously annoying but after 1-2 times I reckon you could have your own music on and just have the video in the background. The free video on her website is 1 mile but if you wanted more you could repeat or use the moves with a pedometer to create your own workout. Hopefully this will make the runs easier on C25K days (if I actually make it out!)

chillyigloo · 16/01/2013 21:57

So ... this unlimited fruit and veg lark ... Can you overdo it??

I've had a hungry absolutely bloomin starving day today and after having used over half my points by mid morning I've absolutely gorged on fruit. I mean LOTS of the stuff (will no doubt be familiar with the loo tomorrow!). Literally a whole punnet of grapes, 3 bananas, 2 apples, a pear, some frozen raspberries and a tin of peaches in juice! Blush

I know it's zero points, but surely if I did that every day I'd see a weight gain, even if I stuck to my points??

chillyigloo · 16/01/2013 22:33

Metro ... Totally feel for you with the eczema. I had it quite badly as a child teenager but am lucky to only have the occasional bad patch now. Feel super guilty for passing it to DD though. Shes 6 now but I've been wet wrapping her eczema on and off since she was just a baby.

Switching to organic milk seemed to help both of us - worth a try?

SallyBear · 17/01/2013 07:58

Chilli, try drinking a glass of water first before eating. You maybe thirsty and your brain is giving you mixed signals! It may be free, but portion control is important to remember. When I started the F&H three weeks ago, I gorged for the first few days, and I've notice that I'm not eating as much now. Thankfully as I felt like a right piglet!

ethelb · 17/01/2013 09:26

@metro on the eczema I will raise you .... not being able to stand on my scales properly this morning (meaning the weight reading wouldn't settle) due to my foot being so swollen up from my eczema.

My WW tracker just opped up with a 'why aren't you tracking your activity' message. Don't know whether or laugh or cry!?

NoWayNoHow · 17/01/2013 09:32

Morning all!

Sympathy for those struggling with eczema - DS has it (quite mildly, thankfully, although still needs steroid cream for his hands sometimes) and I know it's awful.

Resisting the urge to WI mid week as my clothes are certainly feeling more comfortable, so fingers crossed it's all going the right way. Bircher muesli for breakfast today, club sandwich for lunch and roasted peppers and couscous for dinner tonight.

How's everyone today?

SallyBear · 17/01/2013 09:51

All good here thanks. I've had breakfast - porridge with some golden syrup. Thinking that I may do an omelette with cheese for lunch, and jacket potato with tuna mayo for dinner. I need to whizz to Sainsbury's as we need some bit for the weekend. I don't fancy trying to go shopping with all the snow due to arrive tomorrow.

onthemetro · 17/01/2013 11:25

Ooh, thanks for the tip Chilly, I might try that. I had it really bad as a child, then nothing for about 15 years and now it's back. I did think it was just the effects of stress/winter/having the heating on so much but I think I may need to pay a visit to my GP!

Ethel, that sounds awful, I'm so sorry! Does it affect your walking?

I just had a toasted muffin with some jam on, plus a kiwi fruit, a cup of tea and a massive glass of water. Got to have lunch before 12.30 too as I'm going to work until about 6 and can't eat while I'm there. I'll probably struggle with that as I've only just had breakfast so am looking forward to feeling really hungry when I get home, haha.

Stickwithit · 17/01/2013 11:56

Hi, I've been reading this thread (and posting occasionally) and its so motivating- well done to everyone who has had a loss.

I joined ww last friday, but can't get to my usual meeting this friday so I went on tuesday instead, and had lost 1.5lb which I felt was a miracle!!

I would really appreciate some advice- I am on 26 dailies plus the usual weeklies, I have 25 weeklies left which will disappear by tomorrow (fri) morning, but tomorrow I'm going out to celebrate FIL birthday. We are going to a lovely restaurant so I would like to have a nice meal (and avoid cats bum face from MIL if I only have one course). However, if I use all my shiny new week's weekly points tomorrow night, I know I will struggle for the rest of the week (both to stay within my points, and psychologically as I will panic that I've used all my weekly points on the first day).

I'm tempted to use this weeks unused weeklies on friday night (even though technically they will have run out), and save the new weeky points to use sat-fri.

Can anyone advise me as to what they would do please.....
