Throwing new fuel on the Bootcamp Camp Fire

Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

OP posts:
hazchem · 12/09/2012 07:33

Morning all.

I weighed in last night and I've put on 6 1/2 pounds! It's been two weeks since I last weighed in. I'm gutted. Luckily OH was with me when I weighed in and we were able to talk about where I might have gone wrong.

the answer is too much chocolate, nuts, cheese, cream, and some crisps and beer.

So I'm in bootcamp proper from today! In a fortnight I'm getting on a plane to go to a wedding. I would like this 6 1/2 pounds gone by then. Is that realistic at all?

Breakfast Beetroot, roasted med veggies and mackerel.
Lunch roasted duck salad

Also my pimples have returned. I ate 1/2 slice of eggy bread on sunday and the pimples arrived monday also my tummy is quite bloated today and yesterday. Which at least proves to me that eating carbs isn't good for me.

On the science side of things in "sugar- the bitter truth" He shows that Fructose is broken down in way that does give the body any proper fuel as there are no receptors for it so it goes straight to fat.

vnmum · 12/09/2012 08:00

hazchem if you are really on a mission to lose that 6 1/2 lbs, how about doing a couple of fast days. I have just done one yesterday and lost all that i put on by monday weigh in. It is really easy to get carb and dairy creep as nuts are so easy to eat a lot of and i personally use dairy as a source of fat for snacks, sauces etc. I really need to cut it back down though as i am getting spots again.

BIWI · 12/09/2012 08:00

hazchem - beetroot?! If you really are on Bootcamp then beetroot is a big no no!

Carbcounts from Carblife:

Beetroot, Boiled
9.5
Beetroot, Pickled
11.2

Depending what other veg you had, you could have consumed way too many carbs.

TellMeLater - you and me both re the calorie counting! I'm already worried about the whole fasting thing, as I have started (already) to start counting and negotiating with myself about what I can/can't have, rather than just enjoying my food.

On the other hand, I'm 3/4lb down already since Monday, which I'm very pleased about. I'm now 9 stone 10.5 lbs, my lowest weight so far since February. Given the rate of loss I was seeing before my holiday (i.e. virtually none!), this makes me very happy Grin. I have another fast day today, so we'll see how that goes. I may carry on doing the 5:2 until we start Bootcamp, and just wee where that takes me. But i really can't see it being a long term WOE, unlike 'general' low carbing, as I was eating before. I really don't want to see food becoming a negative thing, and being about deprivation rather than enjoyment.

OP posts:
BIWI · 12/09/2012 08:01

wee?! see, obviously Grin

Morning losers.
I am gutted as I am working on the day of the Briffa course and can't get the day off. Dh had agreed to it and was looking forward to it Sad
BIWI Iam relying on you to channel me on the day - ill be there in spirit.

B boiled eggs and Boursin

Had interesting discussion last night with book club friends. Dinner was at mine so I did chilli. The intention was to make cauliflower rice for me but Dh was stuck at work and not so Dc were playing up so I didn't have time. They noticed me having mine without rice.

To be fair all were supportive but one friend said her friend was low carbing which has made her wheat intolerant. I tried to explain that maybe we all shouldn't be eating wheat etc etc.

One friend who is very slim is detoxing at the moment and on no refined carbs ie brown rice
Was a good debate!

BIWI · 12/09/2012 08:27

Oh Sharon, that's a shame Sad

I have heard, though, that there's a vicious D&V bug doing the rounds ... Wink

OP posts:
SharonGless · 12/09/2012 08:31

Lol Wink not worth it in my job. Knowing my luck there would be a major incident on the Tube and I would get involved!

BIWI · 12/09/2012 08:34

Go on the bus?
Grin

OP posts:
SingingTunelessly · 12/09/2012 08:38

Damn was excitedly about to buy ticket but thought better check train times first. Earliest Sunday train doesn't get in until 11am. Sad.

hazchem · 12/09/2012 08:39

Vnmum my concern with fasting is I am breastfeeding a teething toddler and I don't know if I could sustain my energy level without eating. I am very keen to try it but think I need to wait until he isn't feeding with such frequency.

BIWI After type my post I put my breakfast into MFP and I've already had 17 g of carbs Blush. think I will keep using MFP for the next two weeks as that should help push me towards the low carb veg. I feel like I've been really silly has I was going quite well if slowly. Oh and very jealous of the Briffa day. I think it will be really interesting.

sharon I just read something on the daily apple about the fact that cutting out wheat and reintroducing doesn't make you sensitive but shows you that you are sensitive.

LittleFrieda · 12/09/2012 08:43

Hello everyone. Hope you all had lovely holidays. I've been naughty all summer and feel ready to get back on the low carb wagon. I'm taking my eldest on back to uni on Fri and as the rest are back at school already I'll have run out of excuses not to resume. So next week for me.

BIWI · 12/09/2012 08:44

Welcome back, LF!

hazchem - have you got the list of Bootcamp allowed veg, with all their carb counts? That's worth printing out and sticking on your fridge/kitchen wall.

OP posts:
PrincessSparkle86 · 12/09/2012 09:26

Morning everyone Grin

Breakfast- low carb sausages and mushrooms!
Lunch- will be going out so whateer i can find to have thats low enough... Hopefully salad!
Dinner- chinese style pork steaks with a salad

Weighing in at 86.2 this morning... Still a way to go BUT ill get there in the endSmile

BIWI · 12/09/2012 09:30

Oh, and my BMI now makes me in the 'healthy' camp as opposed to the 'overweight' camp. Yay me!

OP posts:
Viperidae · 12/09/2012 09:31

Singing I have the same problem re the Briffa day and, somehow, while doing a day out seems practical, doing an overnight stay as well makes it too much. (Not to mention that a trip to any big city for me has to have some shopping in it as I am deprived of nice shops up here so it would have to be a full weekend)

captainmummy · 12/09/2012 09:34

PrincessS - you decidednot to fast for a second day then? That's good.

you will get there!

Thegoddessblossom · 12/09/2012 10:21

Well I am a pound down to 9 1 and am delighted. I never never never got to this weight on a low fat Calorie controlled diet, and I have got here with zero deprivation. It appears dairy is not an impediment for me after all! Grin Grin Very happy. Grin

And no, I didn't eat any cake. Grin

Ilovemyteddy · 12/09/2012 12:35

Hazchem 6 1/2lb in two weeks is doable, but you will need to be strict! I was 170lb when I went on holiday - came back a week later at 175! Am now 172.8 so have lost 2.2lb since Sunday. I am being very strict and only eating veg, salad, eggs and non-processed meat, plus cream, mayo etc, with a small amount of cheese thrown in as I am lucky that it doesn't seem to stall my weightloss. I think a lot of my weight-gain on hol was due to fluid retention, as I am peeing like a horse since I've been back (TMI) Grin Although it could have been the danish pastries and puddings that did it!

Thegoddessblossom · 12/09/2012 15:02

lunch: chunk of brie, salad leaves, cucumber, roasted courgette, coleslaw, tuna, boiled egg, mayo, salami and slice of lamb.

hazchem · 12/09/2012 16:14

Great work BIWI, princess and thegoddess.

Thanks ILove It think some strictness is what's in order. I'm getting OH to print off the allow veg lists and am going to just eat from that (with meat, eggs and butter) I'd like to eat the cream too but love it too much and would just eat it out of the pot!

HumphreyCobbler · 12/09/2012 16:32

hello

am thinking I should weigh myself again but I am too afraid. I FEEL thin, that is the important thing. As well as looking thin Grin

breakfast - boiled egg
lunch - garlic chicken and celeriac chips
supper - sausages and courgettes cooked in butter.
exercise - walked up small mountain

teaandthorazine · 12/09/2012 16:34

Breakfast - protein shake, leftover sausage from last night
No lunch, but not hungry
Dinner - dp's parents are taking us out for dinner. Hoping for steak Grin

BIWI · 12/09/2012 16:34

I think you could do it, hazchem - but you will have to be very strict. How about experimenting with the fasting thing - don't eat for 16 hours after your evening meal, and then only eat 500 calories worth of food on the next day?

I'm trying to do this, out of interest as much as anything, but am sticking to low carb stuff on the fast day (and probably eating more than 500 calories).

Essentially it's just missing out breakfast, but apparently the science behind it is to do with encouraging the body to burn more fat (I think - I will have to read more!) during the fast period. It also, of course, means that you're consuming fewer calories per day, which (I assume) comes into play as well.

I'm doing this twice per week, if I can - Monday and today - but some people on the fasting thread are doing this three days a week.
