Champion, my DH keeps biccies and lovely stuff in the cupboard and he's annoyingly slim. I find the best thing for me is to not go there at all because if I have even 1, it sets me a bit of a sugar frenzy which I then can't stop. But everyone is different and some people can manage to have a little treat and not eat the whole packet!

Frozen grapes are yummy and I try to have a bit of protein (a few nuts) with fruit to keep my blood sugar balanced. Well done on starting afresh.

Eggrules · 26/06/2012 09:52

First day went badly - I find it hard to resist when other treat themselves. Once I slip a little bit I have a start again tomorrow mindset. Back on the wagon today.

travellingwilbury · 26/06/2012 10:09

I have just done day one of the shred Shock

Bloody hell , it better make me slim and gorgeous because it is hard work .

Very glad I have done it , think I might be a bit sore tomorrow .

Good luck to everyone for today .

Fluffy1234 · 26/06/2012 10:14

I went from a size 16 to 10 last year ( 4 and a half stone weight loss) I cut out most carbs, did no exercise and it took 8 months.

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 10:16

That's brilliant Fluff. Well done. How do you find maintaining it?

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 10:20

I did actually mean Fluffy. I don't know where the 'y' went. Blush

Fluffy1234 · 26/06/2012 10:28

I eat everything now except for chocolate, cakes ,biscuits and ice cream and try to be mega good on Mondays. Maintenance hasn't been hard so far. For six months I have stayed roughly the same. If more than 3 pounds goes on because of a holiday etc then I get the weight of straight away.

StealthPolarBear · 26/06/2012 10:37

Options hot choc for sweet cravings, not a miracle worker but helps.
Pickled onions for savoury cravings, you can eat an entire jar for about 50cals!
But more than that, applying willpower which I sometimes o really well, and sometimes fail miserably on :(

KatoPotato · 26/06/2012 10:45

Well I've got my handweights, Gillian's been ceremoniously unwrapped and I've even convinced DH to take part with me... .starting from tonight when DS heads to the land of nod!

Going for a Zumba Curves double session tonight, then a 15 minute abs blast class... Might just take the hit of last night's trip to the cinema to see Rock of Ages (which I just LOVED) 3/4 of a large salted popcorn and about 1 1/4 share bag of maltesers...

Currently weighing every morning but I think that's going to drive me to dispair? - Anyone got any good advice on frequency/times of weigh ins?

travellingwilbury · 26/06/2012 10:55

Kato I am going to weigh on a thursday and a monday . I have weighed every day in the past and it just made me a bit obsessive . I figure if I weigh on a thursday then hopefully it will keep me on track over the weekend . But I will take more notice of the monday one if that makes sense .

That sounds a lot of excercise in one night Shock
I am delighted I have managed to do the shred this morning , I don't think I could have done it after a zumba class etc .

KatoPotato · 26/06/2012 12:07

Do you think I might be under-estimating the ferocity of Gillian?

The abs blast class in reality is me holding a plank for about 5 seconds then callopsing!

Like the idea of Thurs/Mon weigh ins... I think mornings are kindest?

travellingwilbury · 26/06/2012 12:15

Mornings are definetly the kindest ,
you sound a lot fitter than me so it will be easier for you but it really is full on . I did enjoy it in a weird sadistic way .

I am going to aim to do it every other day , I don't want to say every day because if I fail I will be pissed off and give up .

Food wise today I am doing ok so far . I am going to have soup for lunch and roast chicken and salad tonight . I know I am going to struggle a bit not having bread / potatoes / rice with my evening meal but I am hoping I will just get used to it .

TwllBach · 26/06/2012 12:20

I'm glad you started this thread OP - It's miserable and rainy here and I have just finished most of my work today and thought "I'm going to have a twix dipped in my hot chocolate" and then sat down and read the bits of the thread that I have missed out on and will now not have the twix! I might love you all a little bit.

Fluffy that's amazing - well done! I am feeling a bit Blush but can you tell me exactly what you cut out when you say you cut out carbs? Do you mean like bread, pasta, rice etc? And when you say it took eight months, was it a gradual process where you could see it coming off, or did you lose a load of weight at first and then plateau and then lose little bits at a time?

pumpkinsweetie · 26/06/2012 12:24

Thanx for tip on pickled onions Stealth- going to try that and the frozen grapes idea from a pp-brill
So far so good today, very small portion of bran flakes and a mugshot.
Im kind of doing slimming world as im terrible with cutting carbs, being a pasta personBlush
As of yet no exercise apart from usual school & nursery runs, but hope to start doing just dance or my zumba kinect tonight and everynight then on and maybe build up to doing the 30day shred.
Don't think im at all fit for it yet Blush

Fluffy1234 · 26/06/2012 12:33

I cut most or all of the carb bit out of

each meal. So if I had a roast I either had no potatoes or just 1 or 2 and I didn't have bread at all. I snacked on packets of ham or crab sticks
The weight loss was quite slow to begin with. I think the first stone took 11 weeks, 2nd stone 6 weeks, 3rd stone 6 weeks, 4th stone 10 weeks and the last half stone just sort of happened. I never lost less than a pound a week or more than 2 and a half pounds.

LollipopViolet · 26/06/2012 12:33

I'm a size 16/18 at the moment :( 13.4 and never been pregnant, have no excuse so not going to try and make one up, but years of bad eating have made me this way.

Tried dieting numerous times, and currently using MFP as well as the gym. My main problem is out and about, I go for the bad choices because I crave sugar.

That being said, I had a £1 pick and mix yesterday, but because I'd been to the gym and eaten lots of salad, chicken and other good stuff, wan't over my calories. Won't be making it a habit though!

Could I realistically go to the gym tomorrow, and swim on Thursday? Or will I hurt myself? I've got a spin class on Saturday so want Friday "off" as it were.

Not been swimming in ages, I really enjoy it and used to regularly do 30 lengths a session, was building up to attempting to swim a mile, which at our pool is 65 lengths I think.

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 12:33

Well I never made it to the gym. Ds2 still at home. He has tonsillitis. :(

I haven't had any chocolate yet today though and I'm going to try stealth's hot chocolate idea if I get really bad cravings. inevitable really

LollipopViolet · 26/06/2012 12:44

Aha, change of plan!

As it turns out, I WILL be able to get to the gym on Friday, so will just take it easy ready for Saturday. Or I might swim then, depends if I can face getting in the pool in my current, very fat, shape Blush

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 12:53

But you do a spin class and it's a killer.

No one can see you once you're in the water. That's what I tell myself anyway. Grin

wherearemysocks · 26/06/2012 12:58

Glad to hear everyone is still doing well.

So far I've had a high protein breakfast of scrambled eggs with mushrooms and some chicken (I know chicken is a bit weird for brekkie but I'm trying to avoid processed meat).

I've done school run which is a mile each way, and I've just done Jillian's kettle bell workout., and a post workout snack of cashews, pecans and macademias - 30g.

Now I best stop skiving and get back to work.

wherearemysocks · 26/06/2012 13:03

For those that were struggling with cravings, I read that Chromium and magnesium and some B vitamins can help stabilise blood sugar levels and combat food cravings.

Not tried it though so no actual experience of whether it works or not. I've cut way down on carbs which has helped with cravings for me.

Eggrules · 26/06/2012 13:08

Missed breakfast - too busy working.

Lunch - 2 crumpets and 1 small egg, dry fried, French toast style. Luffly

A twice weekly weigh in should keep me on the straight and narrow.

chipsandmayonnaise · 26/06/2012 13:16

Can I join too please? I weigh 10 stone 12, but am very short so this is a tight 14, really should be 16. My youngest is 2, so my 'baby weight' excuse is a crock! I have tried slimming world and ww. Now I aim to do this;

Breakfast: porridge, fruit, skimmed milk
Lunch:- vegetable soup and a granary roll
Dinner: - grilled meat with salad.... all on a bread and buttr plate for portion sizes
drinks: black coffee, herbal teas and NO WINE OR ANY OTHER ALCOHOL!!!!
exercise- 30 mins walk-run 5 days a week. exercise bike as often as possible.

I will weigh myself every day as it seems to help me.

My aim is to be under 10 stone.... comfortably in the 9s.

chipsandmayonnaise · 26/06/2012 13:17

Oh- and today i have eaten porridge and then roasted a chicken or DCs lunches and ate both wings and both legs. Blush. Tonight though is grilled lamb with greek salad.

LollipopViolet · 26/06/2012 13:26

TheOneWithTheHair, it's actually a "come and spin for as long as you can to help raise money for some charities" thing I'm doing. I can just about get through 45 minutes, but I'm aiming to double that. I'm sponsoring the 2 personal trainers, rather than hassling my (skint student) friends for sponsorship for me, so it's more a personal challenge, and I won't feel bad if I don't hit my target time.

The two PT's are aiming to do 12 hours!!!

If I go on Friday, it'll be 4 visits in a week, which is a bonus.
