Milkshake you started this thread which is the best idea at exactly the right time for me!

pumpkin is it wrong to be a bit relieved I'm not the only one? I will do better tomorrow too. :)

MilkshakeMaker · 25/06/2012 19:11

TheOne I've just googled it and theres 84 cals in a choccy digestive and you only had half, thats not bad at all.. I stole a spoonful of ds's cocopops this morning but i wasnt going to admit it!!

I type too slow! TwilBach you did so well today especially given your working environment.

StealthPolarBear · 25/06/2012 19:15

I have chocolate every day. At least 50g I'd say.
Have had 25g so far
I am a bit miserable, just made minestrone soup - OK it had pasta in it and some potato but not a lot, stuff full of veg and beans I had a small bowl for lunch and a large bowl for dinner - over 400cals per bowl Shock

TheOneWithTheHair · 25/06/2012 19:22

Ok half a chocolate digestive isn't so bad then. It did help with the chocolate cravings so I won't beat myself up about it then.

I tend to be an all or nothing kind of person so I viewed it as a bit of a failure. Thanks all for the reassurance. :)

MilkshakeMaker · 25/06/2012 19:23

It was my first attempt at proper home cooking so quite basic!! ha ha, and dont laugh but i got the chicken off plain ready cooked drumsticks and just took the skin off and took the bones away! Are you ready for this: chicken oxo, veg oxo, carrot, parsnip, onion, suede, potatoe, and few strands of spagetti pasta snapped up to about a inch long. Added chicken to it bout 15 mins before serving, told ds nanny made it at he ate the lot!!

Can I join too?
DS is almost 6 months now so I need to stop making excuses (CSection, BFing, lack of sleep...). Fortunately I am dairy free at the moment so have had no chocolate, cake or biscuits for ages. My problem is portion control as I am starving all the time.

I'm not going to do anything draconian as I know I won't be able to keep it up - just eat sensible portions of healthy food, and drink more water. And exercise.

I'm 11 stone 10. Only 1 lb more than when I got pregnant (I lost a stone and a half before I got pregnant) but feel like I'm a totally different shape now. Need to lose the belly. My target is to lose a stone before I go back to work on 1 October.

slothprincess · 25/06/2012 20:30

Seems I'm in good company with using BFing as an excuse for over-eating. I find I'm starving hungry all the time as well Moxxie. I am going to try snacking sensibily rather than scoffing!

JumpingJackSprat · 25/06/2012 21:12

Can I join too!!! I am halfway through my weight loss mission - i started off at a size 16 creeping into an 18 about 2 years ago - about 196lb/14stone. by new year I had stablised at 12st 10 and had been at that weight for about 6 months. That put me into a size 14. Now I am 11st 4 and a comfortable size 12 for the first time in my adult life. Its been so hard getting to this point but so worth it the first time I slipped into those size 12 jeans, or that size small dress! Ive still got another stone and a half to go which will hopefully put me in a size 10 and its just not shifting very quickly now so I need to join in to keep my morale up :) good luck everyone!

TwllBach · 25/06/2012 21:52

That's brilliant JumpingJack do you mind me asking how you did it?

TrollopDollop · 25/06/2012 22:01

Can I join. I am 11.7 stone Blush. It's really getting me down. I have been watching the Men who made you fat and as a result I am going to cut snacks and portion sizes to start with. I may calroie count later. Good luck.

KateSpade · 25/06/2012 22:03

FUCKS SAKE

Nothing is working.

JumpingJackSprat · 25/06/2012 22:24

Thanks you!! :) Ive never tried diets like slimming world etc but if it hadnt worked I was going to try that next. Basically rather than restrict myself I just eat less of the food i like - smaller portions, and less snacking between meals. if i want crisps I have wotsits or quavers rather than walkers or mccoys, if i need a sweet fix like someone else has said, i have a cup of sweet tea which also fills me up or one biscuit whereas before I would have had 3 or 4. I still have to ask myself before I eat it - am I actually hungry or am I eating this out of habit?

I love the mcvities digestive cereal bars which only have 135 kcal each and nicely fill the gap between meals. Otherwise I choose low fat or low sugar versions of the things I like.

For me the lightbulb moment came when I learnt to recognise what is hunger and what is boredom. Rather than eating until I'm full, i eat until Im not hungry any more. That was the real lightbulb moment in fact. I drink water throughout the day to keep hunger at bay, sticking to three good meals a day and the odd snack in between.

I started using the myfitnesspal app to track what I was eating and to help me create a calorie deficit. Exercise was jogging, horse riding, exercise bike, 30 minutes a day 5/6 days a week. 30 minute walk round town every lunchtime. Once i broke my bad habits I stopped using my fitness pal as it got boring but it definitely helped me :) Ive also got the 30 day shred dvd which is brilliant, i did that for about 2 weeks and didnt notice any great weight loss but I did notice myself getting more toned - seeing my collarbones and upper arms and muscles emerging was a good feeling!

Finally I took up ballroom dancing which is fantastic exercise and so much fun - I had two left feet when I started and now can do a passable turn around the floor ! If anyone wants a gentle (or more energetic, if thats what you want!) exercise that doesnt feel like exercise, then definitely give it a try.

The first few weeks I lost 3-4lb a week, dropping to 1-2lb a week and now Im losing weight at the rate of about half a lb a week at the moment... some weeks I dont lose anything but its important to me that I dont lose the focus. I did hit a plateau at around the 12st mark which was very very hard to keep working through but Im glad I didnt give up. The shred helped me break that. So basically Ive tried lots of things which are gradual and sustainable changes. It is hard especially when I used food to treat myself or just eating from habit like biscuits in the evening but I dont miss any of that now. I wish id done this years ago but I did have to wait until I was very ready and for me that was hitting the 14 stone mark. Im really sorry if this comes across boastful or lecturing or anything - i dont mean to! :)

KateSpade · 25/06/2012 22:45

Thats fantastic, Im really pleased for you.

Like you i have stopped eating for boredom, which for me was too a lightbulb moment, but bloody hell. I think i have a problem!

travellingwilbury · 26/06/2012 07:28

Day two and I am going to see if I can do the shred of evil after I have dropped children at school .
Milkshake did you survive it ?

My other mission today is to drink more water and clean my kitchen to keep me busy . Boredom is one of my danger points so I need to keep busy .

ciwi · 26/06/2012 07:43

Hi, can I join? Am currently 11st 7, started at 12st 4. Doing weight watchers as it has worked for me in the past and I can still have chocolate and wine. Was 9st 4 when I got married 2 years ago but 3 pregnancies (2 losses & 1 beautiful, healthy baby boy) has taken it's toll on my body. Goal is 10st as fast as I can get there really. Need support as I often want to pig out and need to resist the urge! Saturday is my weigh day

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 07:43

Yes. Cleaning and water for me today too. Just reading your post has given me new resolve. This was is a great idea.

marriedinwhite · 26/06/2012 07:50

Am nearly 52 and it has crept on. Now 5lb heavier than the day before dd was born 14 years ago. Am a stone over my bmi. Joined weightwatchers one week ago. Was really good and my scales showed I had lost about 3-4lb. Went last night. Had lost 1/2lb. All the other newbies were about 3lb down. Very sad, very pissed off. Sad. Will keep trying.

MilkshakeMaker · 26/06/2012 08:16

Blush no i didnt end up doing the shread but i did do 30 mins on the exercise bike...240cals burnt and 1 num bum for the next hour!! I've decided to do different exercise every day as i've got it all gathering dust i get bored quite easily so one day ex bike, next pilates, next the twisty plate thingy, etc etc but we'll see. I want to do more maybe different exercise each eve and shread each morning.. If i keep it up is another story!

I've told everyone at work to abuse me if i'm eating crap and a friend told me a tip, when you are feeling a crave and want to pick..brush your teeth! She said it puts you off eating afterwards as it will taste bad which i think makes sense so shall be trying that today!

FurCough · 26/06/2012 08:20

I am confused. This is what always happens - I research too many weight loss strategies (low-carb, slimming world, fitness pal etc) and just get overwhelmed with information and give up.

The only thing that has ever really worked for me (moons ago) is Slim Fast but that's a bit pooh-pooed these days, isn't it?

MilkshakeMaker · 26/06/2012 08:20

I'm thinking of a 10 min solutions dvd...are they any good? which one is the best as there is loads? Or any other short work out ones?

OP posts:
OddBoots · 26/06/2012 08:23

Good morning. Dh is off work for the second day plus weekend (back tomorrow) so my exercise has been limited but I have been walking and trying to walk that little bit faster when I can. I've also not been able to weigh as I do so first thing in the morning on an exact spot in the bedroom and he has still been asleep when I get up, my clothes however are feeling looser so I am taking that to be a good sign.

Sounds like quite a few of you have lost a fair bit of weight already. Well done. :)

MilkshakeMaker · 26/06/2012 08:28

FurCough I know how you feel, its frustrating trying to figure out whats best, I'm going to try just bumbling along not eating junk and lots of exercise, that way i figure the worst that can happen is i dont lose any weight but hopefully would tone up a bit ready to try something when i decide its not working.

I couldnt stick to slimfast as i was starving all the time, think i was too aware i wasnt eating and drinking instead. I think it suits some and just not others stuff what anyone else thinks and just do what u feel works for you

ChampionProcrastinator · 26/06/2012 08:41

Just checking in. Yesterday didn't go well as did no exercise and scoffed a load of chocolate Blush so having a fresh start today. If anybody has any tips on how to beat the cravings I have for something sweet (chocolate, biscuits, cake) in the early afternoon I'd be delighted to hear them - not buying isn't really an option as DH is forever buying treats Angry.

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 09:27

One tip I've tried is to put red grapes in the freezer. They are a little like eating sweets when frozen and good to snack on.
