Can't answer the shred question.

whyme2 that's fantastic. Well done.

I'm feeling good today. No dcs are ill and I have no appointments so I'm actually going to the gym. Shock

To those who use the gym, what exercises/weights/machines do you use?

Hmm now to choose a healthy dinner......

friendly7 · 11/07/2012 08:02

Hi girls. One large dinner and I'm gaining 600 g. Can't complain, all my fault. And of course after eating too much I didn't feel like any work out.
So one lazy overeating day and I'm gaining. Nice one... Just thinking if I'm on eating more during vocation... What a thought... I don't think I like it...

Oblomov · 11/07/2012 08:50

Thought I better post again. I posted right at the start. Am pleased many of you have lost quite a bit of weight.
I , on the other hand, seem to have put on 1lb!!
But, I have been very very good for the last 3 days, food wise. I am still not doing an exercising at all, because my sprained ankle is still killing me.
But I really do believe that food is the basis of weight loss , rather than exercise, anyway.
We'll see if I prove that theory !!

LollipopViolet · 11/07/2012 09:14

Yay! I've lost 1lb.

So, 2lb overall :)

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/07/2012 09:34

Well done LV. Keep it steady.

I am going to the gym in a minute. I am going to the gym in a minute. I am going to the gym in a minute. I am..........

Please give me a kick if I haven't been later. So tempted to follow Oblomov and do it by diet alone.

Oblomov · 11/07/2012 09:49

Don't follow Me !!
My sprained ankle was just starting to get better, then I had a diabetic hypo, fell out of bed, had a fit, and sprained it again. Am hobbling around, can barely walk.
Don't recommend this, as much of a 'technique' Grin

Oblomov · 11/07/2012 09:54

Have been eating:
break: banana and grapes , tea, and green tea.
lunch: salad
dinner: ham salad with 2 new pots.

Today I am having:
grapes
ham french stick
marinated chicken in garlic and chilli, with steamed brocolli and cauliflower.

Tell me what you are all eating.
I feel inspired by listening to your 'menu's'.

KatoPotato · 11/07/2012 10:40

Having romaine lettuce 'wraps' filled with brown rice and grilled chicken whizzed up with soy sauce.

friendly7 · 11/07/2012 10:53

hi Oblomov, hi everyone. I'm having salads-mixture of different fruit, veg with low fat yogurt sometimes and seeds. One salad for lunch, little salad for snacks or fruit/veg. Sometimes porridge for breakfast with semi-skimmed milk and honey+berries. Sometimes home-made veg soup for lunch. Family dinner trying to reduce portion but not always can do that-the tastier food the harder to reduce... Warm water (boiled and slightly cooled) on its own or with lemon when I wake up. Coffee with 1 spoon of honey. Herbal tea. Occasional little treats.

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/07/2012 11:29

I did it. First time I've been to the gym in months Blush. I actually really enjoyed it for once because I got the music right. I feel good right now.

Watercress salad with a bit of balsamic vinegar for me for lunch. Still undecided about dinner though.

wherearemysocks · 11/07/2012 13:03

Well done hair, may I suggest though that you add some protein to your salad, it really will help you stop getting hungry later x

I do agree somewhat with what a few of you have been saying about exercise, there's no getting around that non strenuous exercise is healthy but the thing with lots of cardio is it doesn't burn masses of calories and unless you are measuring them properly and counting calories accurately then many people will eat back more than they burned as exercising does give you an appetite. I do try and do shred or some weights because it really helps with being toned, but most of my cardio just comes from walking, I do try and go running a couple of times a week when I have time as well but mainly as I enjoy it and it's usually the only time I get to myself and to think. But overall I think calorie counting (or points) is the key with exercise as an added bonus. I'm an expert yoyo dieter and when I'm heavier I still do the same amount of exercise as when I'm lighter, the difference is the food I eat.

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/07/2012 13:26

Thanks socks. I'm lazy really so I just stuck a boiled egg in with it. It was tasty.

I go to the gym in the hope of getting fitter. It's not really about weight. I know of a school mum who lost about 4st very quickly when she joined a gym and practically stopped eating. She used all her calorie allowance on alcohol. Shock

Oblomov · 11/07/2012 15:19

I can't beleive how 'little' you guys eat. I think I need to re-examine what I eat, my portion sizes and how often.
I tend to eat all day, non stop. Literally never stopping.
And you guys eat so healthily. where's all the meat? the ...... ice-creams, the cheeses and crackers.......
I had 3 white wine spritzers and a huge buffet on saturday night. Guess I was alone, in my consumption, there then Wink

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/07/2012 15:47

I'm not eating much today due to excessive fine foods when I've was away. Same with alcohol.

I'm sure that by tomorrow the guilt will have lessened. Can you try to stop the grazing? You may be amazed what a difference it can make.

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/07/2012 15:47

*when I was away. Duh!

lauratheexplorer · 11/07/2012 15:57

Feeling great today. Consumed around 600 calories so far (skinny cappuccino x2, half a bottle of Mountain Dew, a bottle of water and a chicken tikka salad sandwich on multigrain bread). I did 25 minutes on the crosstrainer burning 300 calories, 10 minutes on the stationary bike burning 100 calories, walked for 5 minutes burning 55 calories, did 5 minutes of an arm workout machine burning 27 calories, five minutes of abdominal work on a machine and walked 20 minutes either way.

I must say I've missed the gym. It's unsettling to think I am 18st8lb at 5ft9in though. I want to lose a stone by the end of August to fit into a lovely dress for my exSIL's hen night.

I've got the Insanity DVD's but I'm not brave enough for them yet so sticking with my home cross trainer, an hour walking the dog and Jillian Michaels Fat Blast DVD or whatever it's called.

slothprincess · 11/07/2012 16:11

Welcome new people. I hope you have a good first week.

Kate, I hope you're feeling a bit more positive today. It's so gutting when the scales don't reflect the hard work and effort you've put in. I sometimes find trying on a pair of jeans that's in the size down can be helpful. It's encouraging to be able to inch them up a bit more each time. You're exercising well, so maybe you'd notice a change in body shape rather than weight?

wherearemysocks · 11/07/2012 16:44

Good tip slothprincess, my kick start to weight loss was a few weeks back when we had some nice weather and I tried on my shorts that were big on me last summer, I expected them to be a bit tight but I couldn't even do them up! I tried them on again this morning and they did up, still slightly too tight for comfort but they did up!

KateSpade · 11/07/2012 20:32

Laura Wow, you burnt a lot of calories. I am a fan of the cross trainer however i don't burn that many calories, i shall have to up my game.

Sloth I am feeling a bit more positive today, Walked to and from the gym + 45 minutes workout today. & I've had 23 out of my 26 points for the day, however i have had 3 portions of carbs which i can't imagine is good.

Now, i did my measurements before i have lost 4cm on my stomach, 1 on my bust 3 on my hips and my arm and thighs are plus 2, which i can't understand but at least the stomach has gone down!

Im off out to the red hot buffet in manchester tomorrow as its a family birthday, apart from being really excited about being able to go the MAC shop i will try to not eat too much!

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2012 21:26

Well.done kate, glad to see you're getting results on measurements.

My days tend to alternate. The plan is that Mondays Thursdays and Fridays are something like:
Breakfast: an egg fried in one cal
Lunch: cup a soup
Dinner: jacket potato, red onion, beans, sweetcorn
Snacks: pickled onions, options, chocolate (technically not part of plan)
Tuesday and Wednesday:
Breakfast: 2 belvita
Lunch: Quorn salad sandwich made with one slice.of bread
Dinner: pasta pot from supermarket
Snacks: fruit, freddo frog

Weekends, no.cal counting but an attempt not to binge and watch portions.

Huge failure last weekend. Also, this week please can you remind me on Friday that its not the weekend yet!

If I stick to.the above the weight does come off

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2012 21:33

People say lifes too short to diet. It's too short to live in a body that is unhealthy and that is taking years off you. I am no perfectionist. I am happy with every half stone I lose and will be very happy just to have a BMI in the normal range. Life is too short to obsess about every calorie or want to be something you're not, but its also too short not to take care of yourself. We're doing this for ourselves. Ultimately If we cheat, we lose.

MilkshakeMaker · 11/07/2012 22:05

Hello, Just checking in... Everyone is sounding very well behaved this week! GO US!

Even though I had a bowl of ice cream I still managed to stay under my calorie goal today so very pleased, Will be doing the mid week weigh in in the morning to see if i'm on track (thank you to whoever it was that suggested that) I had 2 different people tell me i'm looking slimmer today so feeling positive..Lets see if its the same in the morning!!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2012 22:08

Well done - stay positive :o
I had a sneaky weigh just now and I'm 12st8. Hopefully if I weigh in the morning I'll be 12st7. So not too bad, back to where I was about 3 weeks ago. I wold love to lose the 7lb by the end of the month

MilkshakeMaker · 11/07/2012 22:11

Well That sounds like a challenge if I've ever heard one! Not Sure its too healthy to lose it that fast though?? Have to say that to sound responsible So why do i want to try it too then?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2012 22:14

:o Well it is 3 weeks and 7lb, so only slightly over the 2lb per week. and tbh I'll be happy if I'm nearing that - 12st1 or 12st2 and I'll be extremely happy.
Race ya? (in a mature responsible way?)

Oh and another thing I'm giong to try when struggling with willpower. Fake it - think of the person you know who exerts the most wilpower and makes the 'right' choices and pretend you're them till the craving or temptation has passed. Sounds ridiculous but I'll give it a go
(do you think we should write a book?)
