6 weeks, one stone to lose - anyone care to join me?

Hello all - am off on holiday second week of August and have rather cunningly managed to weigh in at exactly 1 stone heavier than I'd like to be (through a combination of over eating and not exercising) so am giving myself a challenge - 6 weeks, lose a stone (or as near as damn it). Anyone care to join me?

Rules (that I'm imposing for myself are)

  • 3 meals a day - if snacking between meals fruit only
  • drink at least 11/2 litres of water/herbal tea a day
  • one small treat a day
  • try and fit in exercise at least 4 times a week
  • weigh in only once a week

I'll join you :) I'm not going on holiday or anything but I could do with losing a good half a stone at least.

I've got the Davina body buff DVD that I never use but was thinking of getting the 30 day shred to alternate with. Could do them every other day.

It's snacking that gets me. Every time I make ds some food I have to have a nibble. Wine is also a big culprit that I need to cut down on!

justaminute · 22/06/2012 18:44

Hi Dinky, remember me? I was on the nothing tastes... Thread but dropped off it as I felt a fraud. I have a good week then blow it the next. Your post has hit a nerve as I'm off in August too and the rules sound achievable? I'll join you so long as I can start tomorrow?

Ps. how's the knee?

springlenner · 22/06/2012 21:04

Hi, can I join in?
I am also off on holidays in August -to a posh resort so no hiding. I could do with losing a stone. I've gained at least that much in the last year.. entirely due to wine and chocolate Confused
I'm 10 11 now - the most I've ever weighed, I'm 5' 3ish and just signed up to Tesco diets ( start Monday... ease myself in!) I cycle 4 miles to work on the days it isn't raining - but that's not much these days
I have 2 Gillian Michaels DVDs gathering dust so planning at least 4 days a week.
My stomach is a disgrace and since DS2 is going to be 2 at the end of this week I can stop blaming it on baby weight !

omletta · 22/06/2012 21:21

Can I join pease? I need to loose a stone by the 7th August. I weight 9 stone, I would like to be 8. I am 40 and was 8 stone without trying until I hit 40 and quit smoking - a year ago.
I started dieting on Monday using MFP, GM Rin30 and playing squash. I felt that I had done really well, but was on a course today with no suitable food so came home starving and ate a massive takeaway - 800 calories!

dinkystinky · 23/06/2012 16:55

All most welcome and lovely to see you again JAM! How is the job going? Knee (which I buggered in Jan by falling down stairs then had to have ACL repair op) annoyingly still isnt back to normal - hence the lack of exercise and stacking on weight. But am determined to lose weight. Omletta - takeaways are a killer arent they? But sounds like you're starting well otherwise. Springlenna - you sound v similar height and weight to me and JAM - shoukd be good for us all to spur each other on...

30day shred is on youtube so I just watch ahem do it on there rather than buy dvd : )

omletta · 24/06/2012 09:15

It all went downhill for me yesterday - no time to exercise, ate practically nothing, out with friends in the evening, got really pissed on three glasses of wine (am generally a light weight but no food then wine was not wise), came home and ate a HUGE bowl of porridge!

Have just put all of that into MFP and it ain't looking good!

Monday is my weigh day so I really need to behave today - on the plus side I have already had half my water!

blackcatsdancing · 24/06/2012 10:23

can i join? my 'rules' are similar to those you've made for yourself dinky , guess that's because they are sensible ones to follow! i won't manage a stone in 6 weeks though but if in the next 6 weeks i lose 1- 1.5 pounds per week i'll be well on my way and will feel tons better about myself. I want to lose 14- 19 pounds overall so not a huge amount. Am in my 40s now and body composition has changed so i need to start some toning/ weight wearing exercises to build up muscle tone .
i'm starting the plan today.

blackcatsdancing · 24/06/2012 10:24

weight wearing !! i meant weight bearing, hope they don't wear my joints out!

HelgatheHairy · 24/06/2012 10:34

Can I join please??? Technically I need to lose 3 stone but losing 1 would take me back to the weight I was when I got married on August 24th last year. So would like to be the same weight for my 1 year anniversery!

I bought the Shred DVD a few months ago and still haven't got it out of the wrapping!! So my aim for this week is to do the Shred at least 4 times.

Food wise I'll log everything on MFP (although I am flirting with SparkPeople) and will drink lots of water (I'm really bad at this). Not going to go low-carb cause I'm just not prepared enough this week but will try and plan better next week.

Stellarforstar · 24/06/2012 11:09

Can I join too?

I am a bit flaky so might not be here all the time, but I have lost a bit of weight over the last 18 months and need a boost to get the last stone or so off and you guys seems a lovely bunch.

Currently weighing in at 10st 8lb and 5'3".

As an aside, I just read the body fat thread and had a giggle to myself- mine is 32.7%!

springlenner · 24/06/2012 13:53

OK, I'm nearly ready. Fridge is full of salad/healthy stuff and I've ordered a weighing scales from amazon ( moved recently and weighing scales lost in move.... another reason I have let things slip I think, I usually check daily!)

Hopefully the weather picks up so I can cycle this week.

Going nowhere near the body fat thread Stellar!

dinkystinky · 24/06/2012 18:01

Well the sun is shining currently where I am springlenner so hopefully you'll be able to cycle this week...

Welcome all to this thread - hopefully we'll all get to where we want to be at the end of the next 6 weeks. Just pop on here for support and post to say how you're doing on your chose weigh in day

notsurewhyohwhy · 24/06/2012 18:39

hi everyone, I need to loose a stone too, I am 5.2 and I now weigh 10.4 stone, i really need to be around 9 stone. I dont know why my will power doesnt work. i'm going to try really hard from tomorrow and i am thinking about joining jillian michaels online thing.

justaminute · 24/06/2012 19:36

Thanks for the welcome Dinky The job is going very well I really enjoy it and the bonus of working 3 days a week means I have 2 days to myself. On one of those days I go along to a running club, where I've gone from running for short bursts to regularly running 4 to 6 miles a session, sadly there has been no weight loss - too many recovery biscuits I suspect! Hopefully your knee will allow you back to your crazy workout sessions again soon.

Weekends are always tough for me, some good and some bad choices have been made but I intend to be in the zone tomorrow. Let's hope the sun stays out as that always helps me to stay focused. I've just chopped a mountain of carrots to avoid the temptation of Sunday night football watching crisps.

stella I read the fat % thread too and was left open mouthed. My % is in the 30s too. I'm 5'9" and hovering around 11-8. Being 10 something for my hols is my goal.

dinkystinky · 25/06/2012 11:21

Glad you're enjoying the job JAM and that is brilliant news on your running! Very proud of you.

I think everyone finds the weekends hard as the usual routine goes out the window. There are 2 ways you can deal with this - either ensure that there's nothing in your house/day that you can binge on or apply the little (and I emphasise little) of what you fancy approach and get back on the straight and narrow straight after.

P.s. The AC is broken in our office today so am drinking lots of water (more than usual) and feel like I'm working in a sauna - will surely sweat a pound or two off...

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 26/06/2012 14:06

Where is everybody? Hope you're all fighting the good fight and enjoying the sun that is making a guest appearance out there (typical as the AC is still broken at work...)

Managed to make pilates today - seeing physio tomorrow so will hopefully get the ok to do more vigorous/challenging exercise then.

blackcatsdancing · 26/06/2012 15:16

Hi all,

i'm doing ok food wise and feeling very motivated- for a change! been allowing myself to get hungry without finding it stressy. not sure how much exercise i'll get in over the next few days but walked for over an hour today and yesterday.

justaminute · 26/06/2012 18:30

Everyone is obviously busy exercising dinky Wink.

How's the office/sauna? On the bright side you should sweat a few pounds off Smile

I'm doing reasonably OK. Netball last night and again tonight so 50% of exercise target done. I wore heels rather than flats to work today which prompted someone to ask if I had lost weight. Just an optical illusion but a nice one.

Furball · 26/06/2012 18:48

Can I join

am a hefty 13 st 4lb and a size 16

would like to be at least on my way to a size 14, not sure a stone will do that but clothes will be a dam sight looser.

I am doing healthy eating

only fruit and fat free yoghurt as puddings
no snacks, no crap
smaller meals, more veg less carb
and zumba twice a week with at least one long walk thrown in for good measure. - I know this isn't enough, but it's better than my current activity of nothing Blush

springlenner · 26/06/2012 21:48

I'm still here, on day 2... did pretty well on Monday. Stuck to the diet, no snacking except for carrots etc. Today not so good as had to go to town to get a birthday present and found myself in Hotel Chocolat.... I admit it I did have a small bar of fruit and nut Shock
However redeemed myself by cycling 4 miles to and from work and got my 5 a day in and no carbs.
On the online diet I have a weigh-in on Friday ( I signed up on a Friday but only started diet on Monday) Hopefully I'll have overestimated my starting weight and get a result ( dream on..... )

Hope everyone else doing well, keep your eyes on the prize Smile

omletta · 27/06/2012 07:02

Hi I'm still here.

Weigh in was on Monday and I seem to have lost 6lb! But I should add that my first weigh in was at the start of my period, so I recon that accounts for at least 3lb. Still pretty chuffed.

Got up early and had breakfast this morning, for the very first time ever (apart from weekends) I've hear this stops you feeling so hungry in the morning, I'm not convinced, but we will see!

Well done everyone, keep on going.

justaminute · 27/06/2012 07:48

Wow Omletta! Keep on going.

I'm off to Wimbledon today so will be indulging in strawberries and cream - it's the law! Wink

Have a good day everyone.

popsypie · 27/06/2012 07:52
