6 weeks, one stone to lose - anyone care to join me?

Hello all - am off on holiday second week of August and have rather cunningly managed to weigh in at exactly 1 stone heavier than I'd like to be (through a combination of over eating and not exercising) so am giving myself a challenge - 6 weeks, lose a stone (or as near as damn it). Anyone care to join me?

Rules (that I'm imposing for myself are)

  • 3 meals a day - if snacking between meals fruit only
  • drink at least 11/2 litres of water/herbal tea a day
  • one small treat a day
  • try and fit in exercise at least 4 times a week
  • weigh in only once a week

Tis indeed the law Justa - hardly any calories in straberries anyway and you are bound to burn off the cream running from the rain all day! Have fun.

I am planning to do a fast walk into town (20 mins) at lunch time - anyone know how many calories that's worth? Might stop me eating too!

focuson · 27/06/2012 09:59

Hi can I join in as well... 3 years ago I lost 3 stone getting me to a size 8/10.. well with health problems with my DS1, worry etc I gave up exercising and started to creap back into my bad habits - and put back on 1.5 stone. Started back onto food focus 2 weeks ago - was 10stone 7lb - now 10stone 2lb my target weight is 9stone - I am 5foot 1 so a shortie. Exercising, using food focus, etc - my weigh in day was wednesdays but shifting to fridays from now. You all sound as if you are doing great.

dinkystinky · 27/06/2012 10:24

All new joiners most welcome. Focuson - you've done it before so you can definitely do it again. Popsy - I have the same issue! Enjoy Wimbledon JAM - it definitely is the law to have strawberries and cream when there!

Omletta - great stuff on the weight loss. Keep up the excellent work.

I suggest we all report in on the thread on a Friday to let everyone know what our weight loss that week is (if you weigh in earlier in the week, feel free to pp on to say then insted).

Hi, can I join too? I joined Slimming World two months ago and lost 6lbs since then, but have been stuck for the past three weeks due to the Jubilee, two big parties, and a long all-inclusive weekend at a hotel (not due at all to lack of self-control! Grin)

I'm currently 11st 7 and can squeeze into a size 14. I'm aiming to get to 10.5 stone. Doctor wants me to lose some weight to see if my BP will drop (it's borderline) and to take pressure off my dodgy knees/hips.

My biggest problem is lack of exercise - walking hurts my knees, swimming hurts my shoulders, so although I do them I don't enjoy them.

popsypie · 27/06/2012 10:59

Feeling inspired - usually weigh in on a Monday. Have left scales at work so am not tempted to weigh myself every five mins. Weekend hardest part. Made packed lunches this morning and ate a cookie whilst preparing them! Why?? Will be good now - feeling inspired Wink

blackcatsdancing · 27/06/2012 12:55

a Friday weigh in? ok with me. Don't think i'll get any exercise done today (have parcels to stay in for) so shall try to eat little today. chicken and salad tonight, which i'm actually looking forward to as i've had several new dinners this week - i get so fed up with the same old food day in, day out, day in, day out....
I considered slimming world (there's a meeting 5 mins from my home at a time i can do) but decided would rather keep the £5 pw to spend on food. My biggest downfall is snacking.

omletta · 27/06/2012 14:08

I usualy weigh in on a monday, so prehaps you and I can do ours then popsypie?

dinkystinky · 27/06/2012 15:10

As I said above, its fine to report in on other days if you weigh in earlier in the week - its just to give those of us who arent in structured weight loss programmes a date to pop on to update.

Hope you're managing to resist temptation blackcats - best thing I've found for avoiding snacking (other than not having anything in to snack on) is attempting to snack in front of kids - they generally mug me for whatever I'm eating...

Hello! I think I've had a good couple of days, had a bit of a feed up today as I hardly ate anything yesterday- Plenty of protein and Veg. Yum.

I think i'll weigh in Friday with the other Unstructureds!

Well done omletta :)

369thegoosedrankwine · 27/06/2012 18:26

Can I join too? I am 10 st 6 and 5'3. I want to get to 9 st 6. I am a full size 12 now but at 9 st 6 feel a nice size 12. I am trying to eat less rubbish and exercise 3 times a week and only have alcohol one day a week. Weigh in day will be a Wednesday. Smile

popsypie · 27/06/2012 20:25

Yes Omletta - let's do a Monday weigh in. Not had too bad a day - eggs for lunch which is not too bloating. Going to make packed lunches tonight after have brushed teeth so am not tempted to eat the cut off crusts - I am such a mindless eater!! I have felt quite thirsty today so more water tomorrow is the plan.

blackcatsdancing · 28/06/2012 07:46

dinky ah no young children round here any more but remember those days! yes snacking was ok yesterday. hope long day at work will be ok today, we have run out of biscuits at work which is good- no temptation to keep grabbing another.

i find the first few days of a diet hardest as it takes time for the stomach to adjust to less food which can be uncomfortable, also i hate being hungry usually but am trying to see some hunger between meals as being a good thing- meaning i will eat a proper dinner.

dinkystinky · 28/06/2012 11:03

Ah the biscuit tin at work - used to be my nemesis but now the secretaries kindly hide it under lock and key (rather than keep it in the kitchens) so its acted as a good deterrent Grin

Welcome 369 - I used to love that song when I was little! Its strange - I'm 11 stone 5lbs and definitely a 14 at 5 foot 4. When I'm 10 6 I'm a comfortable 12 at this height. Goes to show our body types are all different.

I'd like to join in please :) I need to lose a stone. I joined WW 2 years ago and lost just under 6 stone, got to my goal of 10st in June last year (am 5'6"). But have managed to gain a stone since Christmas gone :( I feel absolutely horrific. I start the day full of good intentions and then it all goes to pot, picking at rubbish throughout the day and then not having enough calories left for my evening meal... but having it anyway.

Looking forward to getting back to 10st, felt fantastic there :) well done to all the ladies sticking to it so far!

focuson · 28/06/2012 21:58

Hi all again and username .. well as the lovely dinkyslinky said to me you have done it before so you can do it again just keep thinking of all the lovely new clothes you have - wow at 6 stone 1 stone will be a breeze just need to get back into the zone - best of luck when is your weigh in day - I am doing tomorrow as a duplicate as was Wednesday and switching to Fri which I did before

Stellarforstar · 28/06/2012 22:41

Well, I think I've done ok over the last few days, but still feeling a bit nervous about tomorrow!

Hope you guys are all ok.

Furball · 29/06/2012 07:19

Morning all

Good luck to all those weighing today - I'll weigh on a Monday with a few others here.

I've been doing ok - or at least I think I have! Have had no crap, no snacks and sensible meals and portions. Also am doing Zumba on a Mon and Weds. am hoping for at least a few pounds on that.

dinkystinky · 29/06/2012 07:57

Morning all and welcome Username - you will definitely get there!

So weighed in this morning -and have put on a lb! Taking me to 11 stone 6 Hmm - will be upping the exercise and water this week to ensure I reverse the upwards weight trend next week and make sure I get down to 10 stone 5 by the end of the 6 week period!

OP posts:
Stellarforstar · 29/06/2012 08:24

Well, I have lost the grand total of...200 grams Grin

My scales weigh in kilos, so that brings me to 10 stone, 7.7 pounds- I converted it on my woman log!

I have been quite lazy this week, so if I get over myself and actually move a bit more, hopefully next week I might lose a bit more.

dinkystinky · 29/06/2012 08:29

On to bigger and better losses (and no gains) next week Stella...

OP posts:
justaminute · 29/06/2012 08:29

Bummer Dinky. Hopefully you'll lose that pound and more next week.

Amazingly I've lost 1.5lb, the scales said 11-7 this am. Not seen that for a long time-it has made me very happy and motivated to continue. It's just what I needed as I had a nightmare food day yesterday. I did a 4 mile run and then blew the good work shovelling sugar laden food into my mouth. Blush

blackcatsdancing · 29/06/2012 09:07

i've lost 0.5lb and 1% body fat since sunday. The body fat thing is good as it has stuck stubbornly at 27% for ages, now its 26% , its a crude measure as only using some old tanita scales but i feel fairly certain it is definite loss. I'm not too happy with the weight loss as i weighed less yesterday but weight does fluctuate on a day to day basis.

Congrats to those who have lost and for those who have maintained or gained don't worry too much. I always find the start hardest as its a period of adjustment. I know some people get dramatic weight loss in the first few weeks but they tend to be following a very low fat diet or very low calorie diet and have an awful lot to loose in the first place. I'm adjusting to eating a bit less and snacking less and trying to imagine myself slimmer come August. I've also not done much exercise this week but from prior experience of successful weight loss it isn't essential. I've lost weight easily 3 times, once i started running, didn't adjust eating habits (ie didnt eat more or less) and lost 10 pounds over a number of weeks. Another time i was clinically depressed and couldnt be bothered to eat, lost loads of weight - no exercise. Another time i fell madly in love, lost desire to eat, exercise levels stayed the same and i lost about a stone over a few weeks. I've never lost weight from willfully following a diet. Of course with all of them i gained once i went back to old eating habits and in the case of running- when i stopped.

blackcatsdancing · 29/06/2012 09:09

obviously the ideal for me would be to return to running regularly and not increase my calorie intake. Healthiest method by far.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/06/2012 09:16

Can I join?

Since being made redundant and quitting smoking at the same time I've put on what seems like loads of weight.

I'm 10 and half stone.

I've had to go and buy some size 14 trousers for the first time in my life. Sad

I've started dropping my DD at my mum's and then walking my DS to school from there. It'll be good in September because he'll be going to a nearer school that is exactly one mile from my house so that 4 times a day due to nursery and school drop offs and pick ups should make a difference!

blackcatsdancing · 29/06/2012 09:40

amazing thats so good the walking you'll do. the best exercise is that which fits in with your life easily. i know some people love the gym or structured exercise but not everyone does. I walk to work and back 3 times a week and it really keeps me fit. Its 35 mins each way, and up and down so i do get out of breath (especially with a backback on)
