If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Hey cakes - that is an amazing result.

Hope everyone is doing OK, I'm still dying of this fucking chest infection.

CBA to nc back.

quirkychick · 04/07/2012 16:11

Oh unicorn/shirl that's grim. I had chest infection just before I started this. Are you on abs and getting plenty of rest?

quirkychick · 04/07/2012 16:12

Ah posted too quickly... cakes that's fantastic news.

UnicornRainbowLove · 04/07/2012 16:30

Yep, on the anti-b's and not going to the gym

Not been for a fortnight now and I HATE NOT GOING SO MUCH.

I'm planning on taking the rest of this week off and then going back next week and starting slowly. It's really dragging on. Sad

Notanexcitingname · 04/07/2012 16:31

back at ya, Toby. I really should have previewed that one, shouldn't I!

quirkychick · 04/07/2012 21:30

shirleyunicorn you are right to feel grim. If it's any consolation, I have spent the first part of the year sharing dd2's infections from pre-school. I had 4 (yes, 4!) mega bouts of tonsilitis and more recently chest infection with abs and steroids - another asthmatic, here. Rest up and eat lots of nutritious food to make you well.

We have just been to see the olympic torch relay. Very busy and hot but exciting for the dds.

ShirleyKnot · 05/07/2012 09:36

Good Morning everyone.

Oh God, I've been up half the night in terrible pain, I think I've pulled a muscle in my back from all the coughing but I'm going to the GP just to check it's nothing more sinister. I'm so fed up. I'm worried he's going to put me on the dreaded steroids which just do horrible, horrible things to me. Sad

Anyway, I've dropped down to my BMR as I just am not doing anything at all ATM as I feel too ill, just in case anyones looking at my MFP diary and wondering what's going on.

ShirleyKnot · 05/07/2012 09:39

I've just read back my posts and all I've done is complain for the last 10 days. I'm sorry everyone.

Poor Shirl :(

A few years ago I was ill constantly for about 6 months. All sorts of infections and pains and nausea and all sorts. Eventually I went back to the dr's for the millionth time and burst into tears. He said "you're really quite unwell, aren't you?"

Turned out I'd had an undiagnosed kidney infection for months and it had got so bad that it had turned into nephritis, which is really quite dangerous. He sent me straight to A+E and I had to be hospitalised for a week on IV antibs and a whole load of other stuff.

Not sure what the point of that story was, apart from that I know the feeling of constantly being ill, and that sometimes crying to the doctor makes them listen :o

ShirleyKnot · 05/07/2012 12:00

Well, just been and been prescribed more horrible anti-B's, but he doesn't think the pain is anything more sinister than a pulled muscle.

He's written me up for a chest x-ray, but said I only need to go for that if the pain doesn't stop in the next coupld of days. FFS.

quirkychick · 05/07/2012 13:48

Oh Shirl you poor thing. I don't suppose you feel like eating much! I find the coughing makes me feel quite sick.

Did anyone read the Dr Briffa chat?

ShirleyKnot · 06/07/2012 11:28

I didn't read the chat - was it much cop?

Pain is a bit better today. SOmeone tell me about going to the gym - I miss it so much!

OP posts:
Notanexcitingname · 06/07/2012 12:12

dont' even think about going to the gym until you're better.

am having bad day. no food in the house, and my secret freezer supply of lentil soup is exhausted.

TobyLerone · 06/07/2012 12:25

I'm going to the gym later, Shirl. I'm sure it'll be crap, if it makes you feel any better :o

vezzie · 06/07/2012 13:12

Poor Shirley. Get well soon.
I was on the Dr Briffa chat and he was great. Fast and informative, he recommended some books (not by him) to some posters with specific complicated questions and really seemed to "get" all the questions.

Have just been on the Paul Gately child obesity one and found it a bit depressing.

I am off work till the 16th - Yay! - so I am going to try and eat properly again, I've been shocking. Sad tired and greedy. And much too boozy. We're going to have a staycation with a few minibreaks (little buzzword-hell sentence there for you all ;) )

ShirleyKnot · 06/07/2012 13:16
Grin

NO BOOZE at all this weekend thanks to these completely barking mad anti-B's. Shock. No BOOZE and NO GYM either - my weekend is looking a bit barren.

I might have to start packing for my holiday.

Envy vezzie.
Envy Tobes (Tell me what are you going to do??. Some running or a class or weights or something. )

Well, Shirl. First of all I'm going to go on the treadmill. I'll walk quite fast for a bit, then do some running. Then I'm going to go on half of all the weights machines. And I might go on the bike as a cool-down after the weights. Then I'll have a lovely shower and go home and eat some pie

Enjoy your time off, vezzie!

When I had a chest infection the other week, I did easy cardio (walking and gentle cycling) and the weights and was fine. That said, you've been ill for a while and you've pulled a muscle, haven't you?

I don't think I can do pull-ups, btw. My upper body strength is that of a young child.

ShirleyKnot · 06/07/2012 15:42

I know I can't go. I know I'm not well enough. It sucks the big one though.

I can't do pull ups either. I WILL be able to this time next year. I'll be able to do 100.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 06/07/2012 16:56

I think you will have to rest , Shirl. Just think of all the gym/classes you can do when you are better. Can you do some gentle pottering about?

Not been to the gym, but I have done some weights at home.

vezzie I read the chat after it happened Blush. It really made me want to read his book. I am veering towards low carbing but I getting there slowly. I have lost 6lbs altogether and have had lots of comments about losing weight.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 06/07/2012 18:26

Shirl, I wonder if you could manage the beginner's workout from the Scooby website? I agree you should really rest, but if you feel like you're seizing up from lack of activity it might do the trick.
Maybe cut it in half so you just do 5 mins' burpees, 2 mins' press-ups etc. I do it at the speed and vigour of an old woman, so you'll probably still make a better shape of it than me. Smile.

< whispers > i think I might be losing weight! I initially put on about 2lbs, then seemed to go up and down by a pound or so, but now I'm almost back down to where I started. 1 1/2 isn't much compared to some of the amazing losses here, but I'm thrilled that the theory seems to be working and the effects are kicking in. and that's from eating the TDEE .

I'm probably speaking too soon, aren't I? < frets >

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 06/07/2012 18:34

Oh, it's not 1 1/2lbs, it's 2 lbs Blush.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 07/07/2012 08:26

Morning all, quick question for those with fitbits, or anyone with a better understanding of it than me! Should I be setting my MFP target to my BMR, then letting the fitbit correct the calorie allowance depending on how active I am?

At the momment I have it set to my TDEE (lightly active) -15% so I don't go flying over target on the days I'm not that active. I log it on MFP when I shred. I think it's been fairly accurate on my calories burnt, but I'm getting a bit muddled with how much I can/should eat, and I keep having to calculate it myself rather than relying on what MFP is reading at the time. I understand that I don't need to eat back my exercise calories unless I drop below my BMR, then I just need to eat enough to bring it back level, but I'm struggling with how to set up MFP/fitbit to show that. Confused

TIA
