If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Definitely sounds like you need something healthy to eat on the train to tide you over. I remember commuting and grabbing muffins or pies on the way home Blush. Fridge porridge/oatmeal smoothie as said before is really easy, portable and filling. Or what about nuts, fruit and oatcakes which take hardly any time.

I menu plan and say it makes life much easier. It is not set in stone, but helps, as Hearmyroar says, with that I'm really hungry I'll eat any old crap anything. For instance, dd1 does quite a few after school activities so it's nice to know when we get in what I'm going to cook.

You could always join mfp and put in your food for the day. If you tell us your mfp name we can watch what you eat Wink.

Hopefully · 29/06/2012 19:05

Vezzie others have said exactly what I would - fridge porridge (or bake a big batch of wholemeal/fruit/seed muffins and bung them in the freezer, grab one out the night before so it defrosts. You can make about 5 dozen in a couple of hours, which would keep you going for weeks) for breakfast, lots of batch cooking for evening meals so you can microwave them, and menu plan obsessively.

Speaking of menu planning, I need to start planning my intake a bit more religiously again - I have been just winging it this week (i.e. entering everything after I eat it, rather than planning ahead, which works really well for me) and I am missing virtually all my macros (bar carbs and sugar, which I am exceeding embarrassingly). I'm really feeling it in my workouts - recovery is slower, I haven't got the energy to get through a workout. It's awful! Going to sit down tonight and menu plan the next week or so in the hope of getting back on top of my iron/protein/fruit and veg levels.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 29/06/2012 19:43

(Yet) Another vote for meal planning and batch cooking. I also try to make sure I have portions of frozen veggies ready to go. I buy lots of carrots/brocolli/green beans etc, peel/chop, then chuck them in boiling water for 3 minutes, straight to icy water, weigh, bag and freeze them. (Mainly because I'm too tight to buy steam fresh ready done packets!) I try to make sure I have frozen fish portions ready to go to. Defrost fish while I'm at work, get in, chuck everything in the steamer, get DD to bed, then eat. It makes a nice change to having the usual batch dinners and it's really easy to enter it into MFP.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 29/06/2012 19:46

Ooh and smoothies to take with you in the mornings on days you don't fancy fridge porridge. Very easy if you keep in some frozen berries.

PS, I do NOT sell freezers for a living! Grin

I've got to do the Race For Life tomorrow with a fecking chest infection. Feck feck feck.

hi does this thread sound like me? I'm into eating for my health - but i need to lose some weight - i did weight watcher - kept to a healthy eating approach as far as possible and lost weight - tho too much and got a bit obsessive about it. Now its going back on - i really don't think diets work long term - but i need something to get me going - i'm 5ft 7 and 12 stone - i've had to buy bigger trousers while i'm on my holiday :( and when i come back next week i've got to do something about ny weight - ps i try not to eat bread and cakes as i get exzcema and ibs also food laden with preservatives.

quirkychick · 30/06/2012 11:29

Hi crazynell yup sounds like me too. I am 5'7.5" and was pootling about 11.5+ st but have been resolutely 11-just under since doing this WOE. Look much trimmer and feel much better last 3+ weeks.

I would say join mfp but site is down for maintenance atm. It does track exactly what you eat and I was quite surprised how much carb/little protein I was eating when I thought it was otherwise.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 30/06/2012 14:24

MFP is back up.

And my FitBit is here! Woo hoo! Grin

quirkychick · 30/06/2012 15:05

I wad just going to post that too, MrsMangoBiscuit.

Following Hopefully's suggestion I made oatmeal pancakes with blueberries. They were really light and tasty but I couldn't shake the idea that I was frying porridge! I often make different types of pancakes for dds with fruit & yoghurt and maple syrup. A big batch to have 2 days or freeze for later.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 30/06/2012 18:10

Does anyone had any suggestions for a clean, balanced, but calorific dessert? I've got 1k calories left even after dinner. :(

knitknack · 30/06/2012 19:51

Full fat greek yoghurt and any fruity bits you might have?

We've just had fillet steak, asparagus, salad and home grown broad beans (pay day yesterday!) - my goodness! Such a feast :)) am now staring down the barrel of 4 weeks sugar free!

My lively ex dp has just dropped his weights off here for me to borrow - I'm going to try them tomorrow!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 30/06/2012 20:00

Round yours for dinner tomorrow then knitknack! Grin

I already had greek yoghurt for lunch, with honey and chopped nuts, delicious. I'm having a go at oatmeal pancakes. A few of those with maple syrup and blueberries should do it, if they turn out edible!

Good luck for tomorrow Shirley, I hope you're feeling much better. No shame in not doing it if you're in no fit state though.

knitknack · 30/06/2012 20:28

Yes, I meant to add GOOD LUCK SHIRLEY!!!!!!

TobyLerone · 30/06/2012 22:39

Yy good luck, Shirl!

quirkychick · 01/07/2012 08:50

Good luck Shirl.

bunjies · 01/07/2012 10:19

Hope you were fit enough for the run today Shirley and you didn't do it feeling rough. Your health and recovery are important < gives stern matronly glare> Seriously, hope you're feeling better.

Had a lovely day out with the family yesterday. We went to Kew gardens and had a great time. I was amazed the kids enjoyed it as much as they did considering they range in age from 7 to 13. We got a picnic lunch from m&s so it kept the cost down but meant we didn't have to be stingy. Had some spicy chicken wings and a lovely fruit salad. Walked for hours and according to mfp burned over a 1000 cals Shock. Made up for the big Mac & fries I had on the way home Blush. Tasted damned good though!

Gotta go shopping this morning so will get in lots of good protein as am finding it really difficult achieving my macro.

BsshBossh · 01/07/2012 10:48

Hurrah, I've found you! I started MFP on 1200 cals a day plus exercising three times a week and eating some, but not all, my exercise cals and I was hungry. I knew that I would not last the course on such low calories and that my metabolism would slow so much that I would simply gain weight as soon as I stopped eating 1200 cals. What's the point of that?

I successfully lost 3 stones last year on Paul McKenna and have learned some excellent eating principles from him which I will continue to follow. But I still have a bit more to lose and need the discipline of logging calories on MFP.

I hunted around on the MFP forums and discovered the EMTLW group. EMTLW makes logical sense to me so here I am :)

I'm eating at the TDEE of my goal weight so that gives me 1800 cals a day - much, much more sensible and attainable (for me). I exercise three times a week and my TDEE calorie intake accounts for this so I don't eat back my exercise cals.

I've only just started eating this way so time will tell how my weight drops, but I have faith! More importantly - I'm not hungry any longer so this diet is much more sustainable for me.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 01/07/2012 15:26

Hi BB! my TDEE is also 1800 cals which I'm finding realistic to achieve. It's been a month for me now and I haven't lost any weight (or inches), but it's making me more aware of the importance of exercise in all this, and I'm happy to take the long view, which I think you probably have to when you don't have much left to lose. Two summers ago I got down almost to my fighting weight in time for my holiday but did the classic thing of piling it all back on just as quickly.

This, and avoiding sugar as much as poss, seems a more realistic way of slowly losing it and keeping it lost!

quirkychick · 01/07/2012 21:36

Anyone else having probs with mfp? I put stuff in earlier but it keeps saying synchronising diaries but doesn't load.

We walked for ages today, too, bunjies. We walked into the city where we live to have lunch in a cafe and had tea in a gorgeous open garden. I justified my taste of squidgy, gluten-free chocolate cake by all the calories burned. Was delicious!

How did you get on today, Shirl? I hope you don't feel too rough.

BsshBossh · 02/07/2012 09:24

Hi ShotgunNotDoingThePans, yes, from last year I remember the first stone came off very quickly and then weight loss slowed down the closer I got to reaching goal. I still have alot some pounds to lose but I'm only weighing once a fortnight (as per Paul McKenna's guidelines - though he says it's best not to weigh at all) so will see in another week where I am. All I know is that I must have lost a fair bit of water weight already as my face and tummy look considerably tauter - the bloat seems to have gone, so that's a positive.

ShirleyKnot · 02/07/2012 09:50

Good Morning.

Well I managed to walk the R4L course, but I found it quite tough Hmm. It was cold and raining which didn't help and when I got home yesterday afternoon I ate a pizza and went to bed. Grin

I can't wait for this ill to fuck the fuck off TBH - I HATE not being able to go to the gym.

Here's to a good week all.

vezzie · 02/07/2012 09:57

Well done Shirley. Get well soon.
Thank you all for the food ideas.
I'm realising that I'm struggling with eating well because I am struggling with being away from my dcs so much (after maternity leave) and feeling that everything I eat doesn't "count" - doesn't satisfy me - because I never get to eat with my family. never eat properly at my table. I need to think about the bit in the India and Nerys book, near the beginning it says: get this into your head: whatever you are feeling bad about, food is not going to help it.
All weekend I had my girls crawling all over me and I ate 3 sensible meals each day and didn't think about food at all otherwise. I think I just miss them.

MinnieBar · 02/07/2012 10:02

Well done Shirley!

I am still in the throes of eating really badly. I feel really stressed atm - I'm a landlord, and after six years I am finally realising that I'm just not cut out for this. I'm a counsellor and proofreader (not at the same time!) for a reason.

So unsurprisingly, the eat-crap, sleep-badly, permanently-upset-stomach diet does not result in any weight loss, and also you feel emotionally utterly crapola on it.

Pity party over, boot me in the arse someone...

TobyLerone · 02/07/2012 10:19

Poor vezzie, Shirl and Minnie :(

I have been awful at filling in MFP lately, but I haven't been eating particularly badly apart from the McD's breakfast on Friday, pizza on Saturday and copious amounts of wine/cider over the whole weekend. I weighed myself this morning and am still the same as I was before we went away for the weekend. So not bad.

I have only gone and handed in my notice at work this morning, so I'm feeling super jumpy!

ShirleyKnot · 02/07/2012 10:27

I also have been being crap since I've been ill. Crap at filling out MFP, crap at actually eating well and just generally CRAP.

Right - how about we all make a pact right now to have a good day today?

How did the notice giving go tobes?
