If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Morning everyone - well done Shirley :)

I haven't logged over the weekend but I've eaten pretty well and not snacked on rubbish at all.

There is definitely a lessening of back fat going on.

lovetolurk · 02/07/2012 10:50

Hi everyone, checked in briefly in the first thread and I'm now nearly 5 wks into eating at Maintenance, hoping to reset.

I'm having a wobble as I have put on 6lbs and my clothes are feeling rather too snug for my liking Sad. I know this is expected and had initially planned to reset for 8 weeks before cutting 15% to TDEE but thinking of cutting now as I can't bear the thought of putting more weight on.

I knew I should have SAFTFBS, seeing that 6lbs weight gain has made me doubt this woe, even though I KNOW it's the most sensible plan for the long term.

Will check in again soon with better news hopefully but good luck to everyone else EMTWL, wishing you all amazing results.

The notice-giving went really well, thanks. I just have to try to convince my boss that giving my job to my assistant, rather than getting someone else in, would be the very best plan.

I'm up for starting again today. Will fill in my breakfast on MFP right now!

quirkychick · 03/07/2012 10:25

Morning everybody.

I have been having real trouble with the mfp android app not loading, so I uninstalled it and then couldn't re-install it. I could use the standard version and emailed them. They sent me a link with instructions through my phone settings in 5 mins! Really good service.

I have tried making a protein porridge, like the fridge porridge but with half the oats and a scoop of impact. Yum, today's was raspberry, redcurrent & almond.

Hope you are all well today.

bunjies · 03/07/2012 12:46

That's a really good idea quirky. I am looking for ways to increase my protein intake and that sounds like it would be ideal. Made my own protein bars yesterday as well as I'm too stingy to buy them and they're full of other crap anyway. They were delicious but next time I will bake them as i just shoved them in the freezer. They don't actually need cooking but they were too sloppy when defrosted.

So Envy of you handing in your notice Tobes. Would love to be able to do that.

quirkychick · 03/07/2012 14:21

I 'm not sure the protein porridge was quite as filling as the usual fridge porridge but that could be because I had a very busy morning with school run and moving lots of heavy furniture round as we had a piano coming today, so was quite hungry mid-morning.

Protein bars sound yummy, bunjies. I think I'm starting to get used to eating 30% protein. I thought I was already but mfp proved me wrong.

BsshBossh · 03/07/2012 14:54

Hello all, just checking in with a question to make sure I'm on the right track.

My TDEE-cut is 1800 cals a day.
My BMR is 1600.
I burned 445 cals today which would bring me around 200 cals under my BMR.

Am I correct that I need to eat 1800 + 200 today?

Thanks :)

BsshBossh · 03/07/2012 14:55
  • burned 445 cals swimming
TobyLerone · 03/07/2012 15:13

No, you need to eat to your BMR. So if your net is 1400 after the swimming, eat another 200 until you're at BMR.

BsshBossh · 03/07/2012 19:44

Thanks. So that's ice cream after dinner tonight :) Haven't had any in days.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/07/2012 19:50

Hello Bsssh Smile

I have fallen off the wagon a bit in terms of logging, but a lot of the good habits have stuck - fridge porridge, nuts, less carbs in the evening, no cake. And I am shredding 5 times a week. Just need to remind myself that it hasn't all gone wrong just because I am not writing it down!

TobyLerone · 03/07/2012 21:55

Isn't it odd that so many of us have stopped logging religiously at the same time?

BsshBossh · 03/07/2012 22:08

Do you think that it's because you are beginning to better estimate your total required calories by yourself now, by experience and/how your stomach feels?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/07/2012 23:11

Bssh I don't know really. Out of curiosity I actually weighed my portions at dinner, after I had served them out, and my dinner was 500 calories. I know for a fact that a couple of years ago it would have been 8-900 quite easily. That really pleases me, because it shows that the lessons are going in, there isn't going to be some kind of awful backslide once I stop focusing, because things are becoming ingrained and I have new habits.
I think a lot of my better grip on portion size has come from using Paul McKenna, and for me personally the point of this thread (EMTWL) is to add in the nutritional side of things, and to focus on exercise more.

Toby I have two thoughts - one that it is the standard 'diet' response which is that the novelty has worn off a bit, and two that because we aren't trying to stick to some ridiculously low calorie allowance there isn't that feeling of needing to know if you've got 50 calories left to eat!

knitknack · 04/07/2012 06:49

I'm still logging - but I'm not eating sugar or carbs so I have to to make sure I eat enough!! Interestingly have noticed that I only lose weight on the days when I DO eat enough - so TDE -15% - if I stick at around 14-1500 calories (it's sometimes really hard to eat more) I stay the same or go up. I know we're meant to be staying off the scales but I'm now at the point where I don't really want to lose any more so I'm keeping an eye so that I can put my cals up again soon (I'll have to drink cream, or eat butter or something)...

Just thought that was worth throwing out there - eat enough!! I feel SO good, am never hungry and am still working really hard - by this point I'm usually dragging myself towards the summer hols. even if last night I did dream about cake

quirkychick · 04/07/2012 07:29

Well done, knitknack!

I agree it is hard to eat enough. I have massively reduced carbs/sugar but not having none. I am tracking to eat enough protein. I find the fat misleading, as it can log it all as saturated when, for instance, I have eaten loads of oily fish and nuts!

I also like logging my food/exercise, it's something I've done for a while.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 04/07/2012 07:55

I've slacked a bit with the logging as well. I still don't trust the macro calculations; it baffles me that I can exceed my protein goal on the daily summary, and come in supposedly under target for carbs, but the pie chart thing is always carb-heavy.
DH is much better at maths than me, and he agrees it's crap as well.

No weight loss to report yet, but I'm still eating to TDEE, so I'm hoping that's re-setting my metabolism and any loss will be long term. I'm too old to risk putting it all back on!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 04/07/2012 08:50

I'm still logging. I've been trying to get used to using the fitbit too. I get a bit confused with the extra calories it thinks I've earnt, usually end up using my calculator to figure it out. Blush

I had a bad day yesterday food wise. Was out all day, slow cooker dinner burnt, got home late, so we had pizza, and wine, and chocolate. :( This morning I felt realy sluggish again, so I have shredded and am going to damn well be healthy today!

bunjies protein bars sound good, what did you put in them? :)

CakesnKids · 04/07/2012 09:01

Hi all have name changed and not been around for about 2 weeks. I've not been logging but trying to eat healthy. I've not lost any weight, not lost inches from my hips but have lost inches from my back and stomach, i was fitted for a new bra at the weekend and am a 30ff, ive lost 6inches intotal from my waist and am very happy about that!

Now my ct scan has come back clear and I'm no longer feeling stressed all the time so not stress eating I want to join in again!

Ive not had breakfast so far so will start today i think!

TobyLerone · 04/07/2012 09:30

I have two thoughts - one that it is the standard 'diet' response which is that the novelty has worn off a bit, and two that because we aren't trying to stick to some ridiculously low calorie allowance there isn't that feeling of needing to know if you've got 50 calories left to eat!

I think this is exactly it. And also that I'm better able to keep a rough count in my head, knowing the approximate calorie value of most things I eat on a regular basis.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 04/07/2012 09:39

Welcome back CakesnKids, I'm so glad your scan results were good.

And 6 inches? Wow! Shock Well done, that's amazing! :)

Notanexcitingname · 04/07/2012 11:37

Wow, 6 inches is seriously impressive. I'm still logging, I think because I've not been going as long as some of you, but also because I'm rubbish at estimating my required intake. I'm grazing most of the afternoon as I'm hungry, then still having to eat a bowl of icecream in the evening to get me up to calories. Need to plan better to even out the intake. I need ideas for more protein, but I can't face protein powder, which really isn'[t my thing. I might try cottage cheese. There's only so many prawns the household budget will stand, and that's assuming I can hide them from the ravening hordes.

TobyLerone · 04/07/2012 11:39

Wow, 6 inches is seriously impressive.

Not in my world it isn't :o

CakesnKids · 04/07/2012 12:58

:o Toby.

Notan I may have had some help in that I started when dd2 was 3 months old so was still shrinking. But its helped and I am a real convert (although I'm not paying too much attention to macros)

knitknack · 04/07/2012 13:13

Cakes - that's brilliant news!! :) congrats
