Ooo, I am .... 40 ... tomorrow Shock

How on earth did that happen?!

Nothing planned for the day itself apart from a nice lunch but celebrations afoot at the weekend.

Can anyone over 40 come and reassure me that things are okay the other side? Grin

I am 40, Threesteps! Not noticed any drop off physically tbh (although grey hairs are gradually spreading... Hmm)

threestepsforward · 07/08/2012 14:03

No grey hairs here yet notyummy, but what I lack in them I make up for in facial wrinkles!

Hi, not been on here for a while. I've done the Shred and got bored with L3 so I tried NMTZ today for the first time and loved it Grin. I wasn't dripping with sweat like I do after the shred but then there isn't so much jumping about, but my stomach muscles feel very well worked.

Anyway it got me thinking which are your favourite and most dreaded JM moves?

For me I love the plank on weights where you lift them alternately, bicycle crunches and chest presses. I hate squats with V raises, skaters and press ups Grin

bogeyface · 07/08/2012 15:30

Musings on the shred.....

still on L1 but....,STOP SAYING " DONT PHONE IT IN"! It is very irritating the thirtieth time you have heard it!

And some of us are not quite able to jump straight up off the floor, it takes time thanks to clicky joints/slightly arthritic shoulders etc, could she not have allowed a wee bit longer? I have to pause the DVD or miss the first few repetitions!

bogeyface · 07/08/2012 15:30

I am 40 next birthday btw!

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 07/08/2012 16:05

Happy birthday for tomorrow Threesteps! You're about a month ahead of me, as my 40th is approaching with frightening speed. Hopefully Jillian will help keep us young Grin.

gingercat12 · 07/08/2012 16:08

threesteps it is funny, because i am 40 tomorrow as well. dh is 40 the day after that. we' ll go to a spa.
restarted ripped today. l1 is ok. that said i am rubbish at push-ups.

gingercat12 · 07/08/2012 16:09

oopsie. dh tells everyone he is 38.

Lizzylou · 07/08/2012 17:15

I too am
40 next birthday. Am very grey (underneath the dye).
Did level 3 ripped, definitely bit easier but not my favourite to be honest. Do feel it in your quads next day.
My favorite Jillian exercises are skaters, the plank on weights with leg lift in shred level 3 and I also quite like those stork things in week 2 and week 3 ripped, can feel it in your bum. Now I don't fall over like I did ay first anyway.

threestepsforward · 07/08/2012 17:36

Thanks all Smile, and happy birthday gingercat for tomorrow, how funny is that?! Have a lovely time at the spa Smile

So many of us hovering around the 40 mark. I can certainly say I'm fitter than I was 10 years ago so thank you Jillian!!

Hmm, can't think of a favourite move, but favourite DVD in terms of feeling great after is Killer or BFBM. Ripped leaves me totally spent after, but in a good way. Least favourite moves would be v-raises, anything in the crescent pose, high knees, serving biceps with pendulum lunges, yuk!

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 07/08/2012 17:52

Sorry, meant to say happy birthday threesteps and gingercat. Darn phone.
v flies and side lunges (esp in level 1 shred) and press ups of any kind are my least favourites.

CHST · 07/08/2012 18:14

threesteps happy birthday for tomorrow. I'm so glad you like turbo. The hiits alone have really increased what I can do cardiowise.
Today was very tough, am not going to lie but it is over and I am glad. I am on a rest day today as my body is just too tired. I'm going to treat myself to a nice bubble bath.
Early start tomorrow and will be in Italy for 2 weeks..not sure if I will be able to check in or not but happy working out everyone x

TheInvisiblePoster · 07/08/2012 21:26

Happy Birthday for tomorrow threestepsThanks

Day 8 of L1 30DS for me today and was really doing well with it tonight then my mum phoned me and as we always speak for about half an hour I'd cooled down.

I'd got to the side lunges so about a 3rd of the way through. I turned it back on to carry on and then DH has just come home early from work offering to buy take away food.

I have been good today and I'm well under my calorie goal and have also been gardening and had a brisk walk this morning so I don't feel to guiltyGrin

mrssmooth · 08/08/2012 12:29

Can I join in too please? I'm on day 3 of the Level 1 workout in 30 day shred. This is going to be my "go for it" effort since the last couple of times I've "started" the dvd I've only done it every other day for a week!

So I'm on day 3 and following the "easier" routine to get me started. How long do/did you do the easier version before starting on the more difficult version? I'm guessing maybe split it up into 5 days of each (so 5 days easy level of W1, 5 days difficult level of W1) then move on to W2? Do you guys do it every single day, 7 days a week, or have a break at the weekend?

notyummy · 08/08/2012 13:15

I like the stork one in Ripped as well! I hate the chumbalamba press-ups things. And jumping lunges.

Repeated my Insanity fit test yesterday as per the programme =- big improvement. Go me!! Grin. Running tonight and Insanity tomorrow. Now on the next 'step up' to an even more vicious set of work outs.....

Mrsmooth - I would go on how you feel during and after the workout as to when move up. Some people start on the hard version striaght away depending on their fitness level, so there is no need to stay on the easy level unless you feel you can't cope with the harder vesrion. You can always mix and match the versions as well, rather than just following one lady all the way through. It should always feel really, really challenging though. I think most people aim for 5/6 times a week for the shred, but there is quite a bit of variety.

notyummy · 08/08/2012 13:16

And Happy Birthday Threesteps!

Nolda · 08/08/2012 13:41

Happy birthday, Threesteps and Gingercat. I'm 43 and I'm the fittest I have ever been. Not the thinnest Grin, but definitely the fittest. Jillian is fab!

TheInvisiblePoster · 08/08/2012 14:45

Just seen that it's your birthday too Gingercat Hope your having a lovely dayThanks

Lizzylou · 08/08/2012 16:28

Mrsmooth, I always do a mix of easier and harder moves, esp pushups.
Notyummy, you are a machine! Well done you.
So, have done another week 3 ripped, way easier today, think I may go for week 4 tomorrow. What is it like????
Also, Jillian often says that you should feel certain exercises in your abs. Despite engaging them, I never feel it in ab muscles at the time, though do sometimes next day. Does this happen to anyone else?
I have just put it down to having large babies for some reason.

cornybootseeker · 08/08/2012 17:03

I did 6 week 6 pack today. I like it but couldn't do it for 6 weeks non- stop! Would get bored of it.

xelliex · 08/08/2012 18:58

I did L2 shred today, I'm finding the strength and abs moves are getting easier but the cardio - jumping mostly - is killing my knees and ankles. I'm thinking of maybe doing it every other day instead although I also wonder if it's just something I should try and work through?

gypsyfloss · 08/08/2012 19:25

Happy Birthday Threesteps and Gingercat :) Hope you are both having lovely days. I'm 41 and a half and I love being in my 40's. I'm definitely the fittest I've ever been, I care much less about what others think about me and am about to fulfill a long held ambition to get my degree in a field I love.

Back to reality after a fab holiday...I managed to do a few 6w6p sessions and some yoga whilst away but tbh the lure of the sunlounger and Jilly Cooper on the kindle was too strong Grin

Managed L1 6w6p today. I think I need a new dvd...have agreed a full-on 6pack goal with DH which I think might need more than just Jillian. Perhaps Turbofire?

ihatethecold · 08/08/2012 19:28

Have moved on to level 2 on ripped today. Deffo harder than level 1.
Am seeing a real difference in my waistline doing these DVDs.
Can I ask what's turbo?

Lizzylou · 08/08/2012 19:55

Ihate, it is a big jump, eh?
Week 3 not such a massive jump as 1-2, but still challenging.
Turbo is a sort of insanity workout that costs a lot from what I can fathom!
I am debating whether to sign up for two challenges, a 10 km run in october, and a triathlon in June 2013. Now, I have done a 10 km before. But I was a sahm and not ft like now, I am someone who needs to train. And the triathlon, I would need to learn to swim fast. I can swim breaststroke ( bad form though, not under water) for hours. We do a swimathon every year. I can swim for 1 hr+ easily, but cannot do fast front crawl. I am also crap at cycling, I did a challenge with work this year and no matter how hard I trained, I was crap and slow. I think that that lad in 6th form was right, I am built for comfort, not for speed!
I am strongwilled though, so once I set my mind to stuff I put my all in and do it. Not in a fast, competitive way though.
I just don't want a re-run of THAT brownie swimming gala where I came very last and the entire audience clapped me from mid-
length onwards as.everyone was out and showering! I was mortified!
