Sorry. That was a mammoth post!

3monkeys · 08/08/2012 22:12

Is ripped way harder than the shred? Am going on holiday next week and am sure whether to carry on shredding when I get back. I feel fitter but not much slimmer after 4 weeks of it

BalloonSlayer · 09/08/2012 09:05

Hello peeps!

I have just re-started the Shred inspired by all those "Olympic bodies."

I have done Day 1 Level 1 this morning. Phew. Confused

I have recently developed a way of getting myself more motivated while Shredding as I had a habit of giving up towards the end of each exercise when it got hard. So now, I get one point for each exercise completed, so in each circuit there are 4 strengths, 4 cardios and 2 abs - thats 10 points per circuit, 30 in all. Today I scored 26! Not bad for a first go. Obviously I aim to get to 30. I find it motivates me to keep going to the end of the exercise to get my point. And trying to remember how many points I have got stops me getting bored.

Anyway will stop wittering on. I am hoping to Shred every day and be nearly at the end of Level 3 before school goes back.

cornybootseeker · 09/08/2012 10:38

oh I like that idea balloon slayer - I lose motivation as well. Must try that!

notyummy · 09/08/2012 11:54

Good idea Balloon - def helps I think. One of the things I like about Insanity is you repeat the fit test every 2 weeks, and seeing the progress is very motivating.

Managed a short run last night (was very tired and nearly wimped out, but forced myself out for a quick 3.5 miles and felt a lot better for it.

Insanity today...another run tomorrow (hopefully a lot longer than 3.5 miles) and then NMTZ on Saturday.

TheInvisiblePoster · 09/08/2012 12:03

I moved up to level 2 of 30DS last night a couple of days early because I was getting bored with L1. Boy is it tough but I actually liked it better than L1.

Plank jacks and walking push ups are hard and I did try to follow the advanced moves but wimped out half way through and went for the modified version.

I am starting to see physical change which is great and I feel motivated to push myselfGrin

notyummy · 09/08/2012 12:05

Good stuff Invisble - L2 is very different to 1 and much more of a challenge. Great for your core though.

ihatethecold · 09/08/2012 12:32

i really don't like level 1, much prefer level 2.

bogeyface · 09/08/2012 12:57

when did L2-ers move up from L1? I am still struggling with the cario but feel that I could do with more work on the strength and abs.

BalloonSlayer · 09/08/2012 14:08

Having done the Shred quite a bit in the past, I still find Level 1, Circuit 1 to be the one I struggle with most. I think Level 2 is the easiest (and my fave of all three!)

threestepsforward · 09/08/2012 15:02

afternoon all Smile

had a lovely birthday yesterday, quite quiet but doing stuff at the weekend so i end up having a birthday week, yay! Ginger hope you had a good day too x

Hello balloon! L1 circuit one is one that i hate too, the endless squats and lifts - the length is quite a shock after you've done Ripped for a while as she changes over exercises in Ripped much sooner.

For those asking, Turbofire is a set of around 10 DVDs which concentrates mainly on cardio, although there are 3 DVDS devoted to stretching (yoga essentially), core and sculpting. It's an absolutely fantastic cardio workout, but wouldn't necessarily recommend it specifically for abs. You'd find better out there for a more abs-targeted workout imo (including our favourite JM!).

Some of the DVDs are specifically HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts, which consists of going all out on cardio for about a minute, rest, then repeat etc.

As someone said, it is hideously expensive for the set, but you do get some rubber straps with it and a thick eating plan booklet, which obviously makes it worth it Grin. I'm quite pleased I bought it stuck it on my credit card as it's extra motivation to actually do it, useful at the start when I couldn't keep up!

If you're not keen on choreography and cheesy american high fives it's probably not the best as it's quite choreographed and fast paced.

That said, I love it! If you're interested I think individual DVDS from the set sometimes come up on ebay.

Phew, sorry for epic post! I'm away now to turbofire off the tens of cupcakes and the chocolate caterpillar i ate yesterday, going to be a hot one today methinks Smile

I'm off to do 6week6pack which is my new favourite exercise dvd. Smile
will check out turbo later though

xelliex · 09/08/2012 20:14

bogeyface I had a sneaky peak at L2 on day five, and moved up on day 8. I much prefer it. I found the cardio hurt my knees in L1 but it's more varied in L2 and all the planking really works on your abs and strength.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 09/08/2012 20:28

Bogeyface I moved from level 1 to 2 after about 8 or 9 sessions on level 1. I, too, struggled with the cardio more than anything. However I did level 1 again the other day after 2 weeks-ish on level 2, and I found the cardio really easy. Clearly you get fitter as you move up the levels, but just don't realise it at the time Grin.

gingercat12 · 09/08/2012 20:41

Thanks for the good wishes. Needed them yesterday. Hotel mixed up booking, so DS had to sleep in our room Sad. Today he moved into his Nan`s room who sleeps on the floor despite my protests
Then I saw ants on the floor (unavoidable in this weather) and had them sprayed. DS and I had strong allergic reaction and vomited. Once finished we were fine though. We both swam a lot and had a full dinner.
I swam 1,200 m yesterday and 1,500m today, so no Jillian. Even bought goggles to swim and look professional.
nolda thanks for the encouragement. i feel the fittest now, too.
lizzylou triathlon and 10km running? you must be super fit.

SpringGoddess · 09/08/2012 22:02

Back from holidays, managed to do either a Jillian session or a run, with one rest day - still gained 1/2 inch around my belly and hips. Hopefully it won't take long before I can work it off. Ran today, while he dcs biked and tomorrow will do bootcamp in the park. Back to Jillian on Monday - still can't do bloody push ups and it's my summer target.

Lizzylou · 09/08/2012 23:15

NO ginger, I am not!
I want to be but I am so worried about being the last one in, both events are small. I just can't do fast.
I can't swim properly, can do a makeshift breaststroke, but would need a proper front crawl, which I cannot do, I'd need lessons. My 8 yr old can though!
I just think I enjoy exercising in front of the TV too much, noone can laugh at you then!!!

Greedygirl · 10/08/2012 07:56

Hi everyone, I dropped off the thread due to hols and decorating but I'm back now, lots of good work going from a quick skim read of what i have missed, great stuff Grin! I managed 3 runs and 1 Jillian session on holiday. The house is upside down now because of the decorating so I have been running again this week. Next week I am starting Ripped!

I have decided that I really need to cut some crap out of my diet in order to shift half a stone or so , anyone tried the JM eating plan? Think I will just cut out biscuits, chocolate etc. during the week and have less carbs with tea. I don't honestly think I eat that much at the moment but I would probably be shocked if I kept a food diary!

I have really missed by JM workouts and chat!

Greedygirl · 10/08/2012 08:50

Just done a 3 mile run and it is already scorchio! My face looks like Angry!

notyummy · 10/08/2012 09:24

greedy - I am about to venture out for a run shortly and I am sure I will look similar. I have time to do a longer run today, so even though it is warm I feel duty bound to try for at least 7 miles givne that I have moaned about not doing longer runs because of time issues/the rain. I have neither of those excuses today. I have heard excellent things about JM 'Master your metabolism' book. Might be worth a look?

Did a Insanity plyometric cardio circuit session yesterday. Bloody hell it is tough. There is a particular set of stuff that I really struggle with towards the end (some sort of hell involving a burpee straight into 4 press-ups then 8 mountain climbers then into a burpee again. For a minute....then straight into moguls (anyone who has done Ripped or L2 6W6P will know exactly how much fun they are....) and THEN standing mountain climbers at top speed. Grim.

gypsyfloss · 10/08/2012 09:29

Crikey notyummy...don't know whether to be impressed or appalled Grin.

ILoveLemonCurd · 10/08/2012 11:30

Good lord yummy, I was feeling virtuous having just done NMTZ straight through with no stops. Now I feel I need to go for a run! But alas I have a slight injury which I must rest because it keeps coming back Sad. Might try a bike ride later if I can.

Greedygirl I am the same as you. I need to shift half a stone and need to cut the crap too (says me after eating a chocolate biscuit Wink ). we are on holiday next week for a fortnight so I think from September I will have to be strict with myself and get these wobbles shifted! Shall we be virtuous together?!

I have Ripped now but not looked at it, is it very different from shred? How high impact is it? I might need to get rid of my niggle first as I'm avoiding jumping moves atm, thanks.

BalloonSlayer · 10/08/2012 11:53

Good morning. Reporting in.

Good gracious, you all seem very impressive compared with my mouse-like achievements. Ripped? Running? NMTZ? < faints > I know what all those things are by the way, but I am so far back to basics there's no point even considering them.

All I can report is Day 2 Level 1 complete and I scored 29 on my scoring system! < proud >

ihatethecold · 10/08/2012 13:45

Lemoncurd. I prefer ripped to 30 DS
Ripped gives me backache though. Some of the exercises have used muscles in my lower back that are not used to itBlush

Did level 2 for the second time this morning. It's hard!

Lizzylou · 10/08/2012 14:23

Lemoncurd, I agree with ihate, ripped is a better workout but Jillian is v shouty and annoying.
Notyummy, you are so fit! Am in awe.
Have just completed week 4 ripped for first time. Really enjoyed some of the exercises, others not so much and Jillian is almost unbearable. Not a fan of those moguls and burpees! But loved the one where you curtsey at the end.
