Bootcamp Week 4 - Come Whine With Me

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 12:00

Welcome everyone!

Now we're into the difficult weeks - those of us who are actually in week 4. You may have found that your weight loss slowed down last week or even - as for me - has gone back up again.

Don't panic!

This is very common. Keep on keeping on (my mantra for this WOE) and things will start to happen for you again soon.

Don't think it's all falling apart and 'treat' yourself by cheating. That will only exacerbate things, and you will very definitely be reporting back here with a weight loss or - worse - disappearing altogether, thoroughly disenchanted with yourself and the whole low carb thang.

If you're gaining, or not seeing any weight loss, have a long, hard look at what you were eating last week. Did you relax too much, if you moved to Bootcamp Light? Have you allowed carb creep to happen?

If you're doing as I suggested and keeping a food/drink diary, compare last week with your first week. Why not go back to what you ate/drank in that first week - especially if it was a week when you definitely did see a loss?

And remember, weeks 1 and 2 are weeks where you are primarily losing fluid. From weeks 3 onwards, we are now dealing with the fat - and the going will, naturally, be a lot tougher.

Reasonable, long-term and sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but that's 2-4 packs of lard.

Come and share what's working for you - how are you feeling about this WOE now, now that you're a bit more used to it? What tips can you give to your fellow MN Bootcampers?

What's frustrating you? How can we help to make it better, or work more easily for you?

this week (from tomorrow) i will be cutting out the dairy (except for butter). cheese and cream intake has slowly been creeping up and up and i'm feeling a bit sluggish

Hepsibaaah · 07/05/2012 12:37

It's certainly got a lot tougher to shift the weight, mines' been up and down like a yo-yo not bearing any relation to what I've eaten

This is where I've given up in the past, reached that despondent 'tried hard and failed again' moment, and hit the chocolate. If I'm honest, whats working for me is feeling thinner and healthier; my skin is clearer and a better tone and I'm running as well now (doing the C25K programme) which has helped a lot. But, in a non-creepy way, having the support here has been great - I've made the choice to do it, no-ones pushed me and it's helpful to see I'm not alone in struggling with my carb cravings!

Tips?
Only a few;
weekly menu plan,
have my own 2 litre water bottle so I can easily judge fluid intake,
not wearing leggings (odd I know, but wearing tight jeans is a constant reminder that I need to shift the fat!),
EAT BREAKFAST otherwise I pick
have zero carb picky foods ready to go in the fridge

Thegoddessblossom · 07/05/2012 12:57

L: salad leaves, mushrooms, mackerel fillet, celery, plum toms and mayo.

(BTW I use this thread as my food diary, and for BIWI to sound a klaxon if I am eating something wrong, so apologies for the level of detail)

People say that I am looking like i have lost weight which is very gratifying. Grin Bought some size 10 sainsbury's skinny jeans and they fit really well - apart from being too long - does LCing make you grow taller as well? Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 07/05/2012 13:00

I can't believe how easy I find it now, not to eat bread. It's ingrained now, so I don't have any with soup when others do, I don't eat the kids' toast crusts, etc. I used to LIVE off bread. At a garage when on the road I would buy bagels or a loaf of bread, to have a few slices as a snack, thinking it had to better for me than anything else sold in the garage shop. Bread addict I was.....

I have found that I really can't eat any kind of fruit at all. Not even berries. Which is a shame as I love them, and have eaten massses of fruit my whole life. I really miss bananas.

Thegoddessblossom · 07/05/2012 13:01

ingrained- geddit?

BettyBathroom · 07/05/2012 13:40

I'm still here...had a bit of a foodie weekend - we were child free! Lots of meals out, champagne bars, Borough Market....I've gained 1lb from last week but it's also my TOM so who knows...I'm not panicking...much!

Have decided not to buy any more Brazil or Macadamia Nuts - they are just too bloody tasty.

After 25 years of being veggie my adventures on the meat front continue...it's not love at first sight - meat doesn't often taste of very much...had scallops with bacon bits and bean sprouts in Borough market and was completely underwhelmed. And after my amazing veggie dinner at Vanilla Blacks I started to question the wisdom of returning to meat. Had bbq'd chicken with roast veggies on Sunday which was better but not fantastic. More research needed and tastebuds need more honing.

Food for today

B 3 egg omelette with tomato & spring onion and some parmesan
L Left over tofu stir fry and curried pumpkin soup - cooking as I type.
D Flaxseed based pizza - might try some meat topping

Hello I am back form fabulous weekend in Edinburgh for BF wedding. Massive reunion with people I hadn't seen for 20-30 years. Did pretty well LC wise but did have a few glasses of wine and prosecco (which was on tap in hotel) Drank loads of water and was horribly smug when everyone else had horrific hangovers and I didn't Smile Haven't weighed yet but will do in morning

my tip:
do not watch raymond blanc making all manner of tasty chocolate things as I did on saturday. induced a chocolate craving so bad i nearly had to have a lie down

LackaDAILYcarb · 07/05/2012 15:10

Having a baaaad day today. I have been feeling hungry all day. I've eaten loads though, so can't possibly be. All I can think is it's carb craving. I had some green bean salad with my lunch from Morrison's salad counter which said were in balsamic dressing. Naughty I know, but it was the only green offering apart from lettuce.

I think perhaps my wine and 85% chocolate fest over the weekend has knocked me out of ketosis and the bit of sweetness in the dressing has got my carb juices flowing.

Went shopping earlier, and it seemed like all the carby products were leaping out at me. It also crossed my mind just how many carbs are in our diets, especially refined ones. It's shocking really.

Anyway back to my hunger...I need some inspiration. Just had a handful of nuts but even they didn't hit the spot. My body is saying "nice, but would be better with some chocolate & caramel thrown in.

Is it too early to start cooking tea?

LackaDAILYcarb · 07/05/2012 15:24

Forgot to say that I love the thread title :o

Schnarkle · 07/05/2012 15:55

What's really working for me are the various threads on here. Somewhere to check in and as it's so fast paced, there's always loads to read rather than think about carby stodge.

I've lost 3 inches off my waist in 3 weeks, not bad work so I'll be carrying on into week 4.

Skin is feeling and looking great with all the water I'm drinking, although of all things we have to do that's still the thing I struggle with.

Have a thumping headache for the last 2 days and am now wondering if it's lack of water.

Weekly food plans are a must, likewise making something in advance for a few days lunches. Like the crustless quiche or the oriental cabbage parcels. Handy to store and to grab.

Cucumber is now a close friend of mine. I hated cucumber before this woe. Now it's my go to veg to add freshness to a salad or to lighten up something thats far too meat or egg/ cheese heavy. What's become of me Grin

ohforfoxsake · 07/05/2012 16:15

Another wedding weekend here. I made a choice before I left that I was going to have what I wanted, so do not feel guilty. My plan is to go back to two weeks of bootcamp as of tomorrow. I am glad I did as the weekend was brilliant and the food was a massive part of the day, but I kept up the water intake. For once I was handing out water to the falling-over drunks!

Ironically I read the IPD while I was away (whilst stuffing myself with delicious food and pouring alcohol down my neck). No guilt, just getting straight back in the saddle. It's a one off, I am not suffering carb-cravings (despite having just 4 hours sleep) and am feeling really positive.

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 16:22

thegoddess - if only low carb would encourage growth! That's my problem, you see. I'm not too fat for my height, I'm too short for my weight.

I'm glad that the threads are helping everyone. I think it's so important to get support - even when you know it's down to yourself not to cheat! Just having other people who know what you're going through is a massive boost, and can really help to keep you going when otherwise you might throw in the towel.

Hello lovely losers

Lacka what are you planning for tea? Could you have half now and half with rest of family?

Back from weekend camping in wales and did brilliant at LC meals. Just the alcohol that was the problem. Stuck to prosecco, wine and lots of water. Loads of exercise on the beach. Dc begged to go to McDonalds on way home - once every 6 months I give in ( I know Confused ) I had chicken and bacon Caesar salad which was bearable.

Weigh in for me tomorrow

ohforfoxsake · 07/05/2012 16:40

That's why its so great BIWI - I'll often catch up on the threads instead of wandering around bored shoving a biscuit down. It's why WW is successful, only we have constant support and it doesn't cost us anything. I had lost interest in MN, but this has sucked me right back in. Smile

The week before we started bootcamp I was depressed and miserable, crying and full of self loathing. I don't hate myself anymore, I look in the mirror, I brush my hair, I put make up and perfume on, I think about how I present myself. My jeans are getting baggy and I can now put my hands in my pocket. I'm getting more done, cooking good food, and lets just say my relationship with DH has improved greatly Wink.

Typing this I have a wee tear in my eye. BIWI, I want to tell you how crucial this has been. And I am very, very grateful to you.

x

SharonGless · 07/05/2012 17:24

Ohfoxsake that's lovely. I had no Internet access all weekend and found myself missing the support network so I know what you mean. I bored my poor friend to death all weekend but didn't manage to convince her to join me!

MrsNouveauRichards · 07/05/2012 18:06

Foxsake, so much of your post are my thoughts and feelings too :)

Just got slightly over excited over a pack of stirfry vegetables in Chavsda, I am really looking forward to eating them (wtf has happened to me?!) :o

D - meatballs, celeriac chips, raw mushrooms, spoonful of sweetcorn and a creamy gravy (getting a lot of my fats right there :o )

I bloody love celeriac!

LackaDAILYcarb · 07/05/2012 18:42

Aw foxy, I have a lump in my throat reading your post (sob)

IKWYM exactly. I chose to drink almost two bottles of wine this weekend and polish off 2 bars of chocolate (even if it was 85% cocoa), knowing full well the consequences. I don't feel guilty though, which I works have done on SW and would have avoided the weekly class.

I avoided eating something inappropriate by playing mariokart with the DC! I am still craving sugar though, I had a slug of milk after tea and was taken aback with how sweet it tastes. I think the sweet craving is because I've finally given up the Pepsi max. Not had any since Saturday

Actually, I have a confession there. I keep my cans on the bottom shelf of our pantry. Went in there in the dark, grabbed a can, opened it and started drinking. Thought it tasted really sweet but thought it was just my tastebuds being deceitful! Wandered back to the lounge, drinking all the while, popped it on the coffee table and went out of the room. When I came back in, a can of Coke was sitting there! I was very confused, but it turns out that DH had bought them and stuck them on the shelf in front of the Pepsi max! Teaches me to jot look at what I'm doing! And may further explain my sugar cravings!

LackaDAILYcarb · 07/05/2012 18:44

I did celeriac chips tonight as well. So yummy :)

NormaStanleyFletcher · 07/05/2012 18:46

Can one of you link me to the instructions?
