Bootcamp Week 4 - Come Whine With Me

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 12:00

Welcome everyone!

Now we're into the difficult weeks - those of us who are actually in week 4. You may have found that your weight loss slowed down last week or even - as for me - has gone back up again.

Don't panic!

This is very common. Keep on keeping on (my mantra for this WOE) and things will start to happen for you again soon.

Don't think it's all falling apart and 'treat' yourself by cheating. That will only exacerbate things, and you will very definitely be reporting back here with a weight loss or - worse - disappearing altogether, thoroughly disenchanted with yourself and the whole low carb thang.

If you're gaining, or not seeing any weight loss, have a long, hard look at what you were eating last week. Did you relax too much, if you moved to Bootcamp Light? Have you allowed carb creep to happen?

If you're doing as I suggested and keeping a food/drink diary, compare last week with your first week. Why not go back to what you ate/drank in that first week - especially if it was a week when you definitely did see a loss?

And remember, weeks 1 and 2 are weeks where you are primarily losing fluid. From weeks 3 onwards, we are now dealing with the fat - and the going will, naturally, be a lot tougher.

Reasonable, long-term and sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but that's 2-4 packs of lard.

Come and share what's working for you - how are you feeling about this WOE now, now that you're a bit more used to it? What tips can you give to your fellow MN Bootcampers?

What's frustrating you? How can we help to make it better, or work more easily for you?

Ah shit. I seem to have sunk a bottle of red wine and fallen into a face of cake.

Hepsibaaah · 12/05/2012 21:57

logging in -yesterday:
B- was bacon and mushroom,
L was salad with mackerel
S was salmon and stir fry veg

today has been challenging, big lunch out
no B (felt awful, in a rush etc)
L chicken terrine with veg, huge steak with garlic butter & rocket salad approx 6 skinny fries sinned with a small slice b'day cake and coffee
no S, feel stuffed and a little icky? Cake was nice but so so sweet!
v long car journey put the kibosh on water too.

Hepsibaaah · 12/05/2012 21:57

Note cake was not same that smokinaces fell into

Ilovemyteddy · 12/05/2012 22:01

I've just come on here to have a moan because someone was horrible to me on AIBU (I'm posting on there under a namechange) and then I read about other LC-ers woes and realised that I'm being a bit precious and need to get over myself Grin

Lacka I hope you are feeling better - did they get to the bottom of what is going on with your chest pain? I ended up in A&E with chest pain a couple of years ago which was caused by stress because I was trying to look after my Mum, who was suffering with dementia, so I sympathise with you, and with Jax and Goddess. I hope you are all okay Thanks

I must say I am tempted by a bottle of wine and a faceful of cake - I've been so good this week and am only 0.2lb down Sad Fingers crossed that I'm lighter on Monday. I still love this WOE (had the asparagus fritatta from the recipe thread tonight and it was lush) but it's very frustrating when the weightloss slows to a crawl as it has done with me this week.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 12/05/2012 22:18

well after my Waitrose Cookery Course today, couple of glasses of wine with food, I am starting again properly tomorrow.

Nigella - just a word of caution - you are eating a lot of dairy. You may be fine with it, but beware that it can impede weight loss for some/many.

I have just been for dinner at some lovely friends. Despite confessing to being on a low carb diet, the food that was served was actually much too carby (although very delicious), so I think seeing the scales start with 9 on Monday is not going to happen Sad. I did manage to avoid the bread and rice, but there was cake involved for pudding (that was served to me on the plate, so not something I could easily avoid).

Tomorrow will have to be a hairshirt/lots of water day.

Jax - was the course good? I am very Envy that you got to do it!

Still, I'm going to meet Davina soon, on another MN thing, so I'm very pleased about that. (Although I would love to be a good half a stone lighter before I do!)

BIWI Did you confess to being Low carb prior to arriving at the dinner?

B Kippers

BettyBathroom · 13/05/2012 09:22

Yesterday's meals

B - 2 coconut & almond muffins with butter
L - Onion Bahaji with coconut chutney
D - We had dinner out - started with Mussels - they were gritty, so wasn't keen, followed by Caesar Salad (no croutons)- which was incredibly bland despite having bacon & anchovies mixed through - so because my first two courses were a complete flop I felt I deserved some loveliness to eat - so I had a Valrhona choc & orange tart - which made up for the first and second course! And wasn't too sweet or huge.

Weighed in this morning and my weight has fallen again. Smile

BIWItheBold · 13/05/2012 09:24

I did - I agonised for ages about it, but eventually decided that as they are long-standing, good friends, that they wouldn't mind if I imposed my dietary requirements on them, so I e-mailed about 2 weeks ago. The reply came that his DW was also low carbing, so all would be fine. Ironically, as one of the other guests is vegetarian, the whole meal was vegetarian - which I don't have a problem with, but it also makes it a lot carbier as well. Sad

However, it's all part of life - these things will happen. (And the meal was lovely, and I did enjoy it!)

No cake here but drank a bucket of red wine at the pub after a football presentation type thingy for our boys. Feel like hell this morning. Need to avoid vinos for the next few days. Sad

Trots was definitely the amount of butter I had cooked my lunch in. My body is just not used to it. Thanks for the sympathy! Not pleasant.

Tea last night was red wine and peanuts. Blush

Breakfast: 2 egg, 2 bacon, mushrooms, cooked in oil.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 13/05/2012 10:19

biwi it was absolutely fantastic, everything was delicious - lots of cream and butter which was great and the starter and main not particularly carby - dessert on the other hand was sugary and declicious.

BIWItheBold · 13/05/2012 10:28

What did you cook?

OP posts:
JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 13/05/2012 10:31

Learned lots of new skills too which was good - presentation wowee, it was amazing and we learned how to put food on plates that looked michelin star style and taste! Y'know, instead of just dumping it on a plate. Grin

Im not seeing Davina, cant get there and back and do school run at the same time. Sad

kandinskysgirl · 13/05/2012 11:13

I'm doing my online shop and feeling a bit uninspired. What yummy foods are you all buying?

smokinaces · 13/05/2012 11:50

Well I have just surfaced after my sinning. To be fair I.could have been a lot lot worse. I avoided the chocolate cake and had cheesecake and a cupcake. And my kebab on the way home was meat and salad, no pitta or chips!!! Loads of water and stuff today. After four weeks though I'm not too ashamed of my mini slip, just hope I can redeem myself whilst hungover.....

BIWItheBold · 13/05/2012 11:51

How about a roast chicken, kandinskysgirl? Roasted with olive oil/butter rubbed into the skin, and black pepper and sea salt to make the skin extra crispy?

Or a piece of belly pork, slow roasted till it's falling apart, with lovely, crispy crackling?

Oh brilliant thanks BIWI. I have been avoiding pesto and now I am wondering why?

Is it something I can eat?

ohforfoxsake · 13/05/2012 12:41

Eurgh - had a great day, really stuck to it. Walnuts for Brekkie, peri-peri chicken salad for lunch, wedding meal was roast turkey dinner (only had a nibble of roast potato for a taste). No pudding (fruit salad) Then it went tits up. I ate the fudge they served with the coffee.

Unfortunately family wedding combined with one of my children being very demanding all night (in that way they can be when a bit under the weather and tired) resulted in me drinking some wine. Not a huge amount, but some. As always happens with me (really am all or nothing it seems) I then became too relaxed about the whole thing and finished the night off with a large hot chocolate (with marshmallows and cream) and a choc chip cookie, which was way too sweet but I ate it anyway.

Feel bloody awful today. Very quesy. don't feel bloated though. I think today I'll fast until dinner and then have some roast chicken and steamed veg.

Didn't weigh in last week so will be doing so tomorrow. Have been back on track so disappointed with myself, but not beating myself up because we don't do that anymore, do we? Smile

NotMostPeople · 13/05/2012 13:02

I was sooo good last night, went out only ate low carb and drank gin and slimline tonic came home feeling smug.

Then DH offered me some minstrels and it all went badly wrong.

GreenEyesAndHam · 13/05/2012 13:26

Oh dear, seems like it's been a cursed weekend for some! Onwards and downwards though, a slip up every now and again is to be expected- and just think about the amount and type of carbs we were scoffing before Shock

Another 2lb has come off for me this week, and I've had a couple of comments this weekend about looking slimmer (from people who don't know I'm LCing) so I'm pretty bouncy!

Having some pigs in blankets with my roast chicken today to celebrate Grin

teaandthorazine · 13/05/2012 13:37

Not too bad for me so far - main issue has been work all weekend and lack of lunchbreaks. So am not great on the water/proper meals front. Dp cooked trout with roasted veg last, bit heavy on the carrots but I couldn't refuse! Tonight will be moussaka with more veg and a much needed glass of wine. am not holding put much hope for anything more substantial than a few nuts before that though. my job really gets in the way sometimes!

WillieWaggledagger · 13/05/2012 13:58

dp has been away this weekend, and I've been crap and not eaten proper meals - just picked at snacky things. nothing carby but still, not good
he's away next weekend too, and for most of June so will have to get out of this habit
