Bootcamp Week 4 - Come Whine With Me

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 12:00

Welcome everyone!

Now we're into the difficult weeks - those of us who are actually in week 4. You may have found that your weight loss slowed down last week or even - as for me - has gone back up again.

Don't panic!

This is very common. Keep on keeping on (my mantra for this WOE) and things will start to happen for you again soon.

Don't think it's all falling apart and 'treat' yourself by cheating. That will only exacerbate things, and you will very definitely be reporting back here with a weight loss or - worse - disappearing altogether, thoroughly disenchanted with yourself and the whole low carb thang.

If you're gaining, or not seeing any weight loss, have a long, hard look at what you were eating last week. Did you relax too much, if you moved to Bootcamp Light? Have you allowed carb creep to happen?

If you're doing as I suggested and keeping a food/drink diary, compare last week with your first week. Why not go back to what you ate/drank in that first week - especially if it was a week when you definitely did see a loss?

And remember, weeks 1 and 2 are weeks where you are primarily losing fluid. From weeks 3 onwards, we are now dealing with the fat - and the going will, naturally, be a lot tougher.

Reasonable, long-term and sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but that's 2-4 packs of lard.

Come and share what's working for you - how are you feeling about this WOE now, now that you're a bit more used to it? What tips can you give to your fellow MN Bootcampers?

What's frustrating you? How can we help to make it better, or work more easily for you?

ohforfoxsake - what a lovely post - and I'm very glad it's working for you Smile

I hadn't realised quite how badly I was doing on the water front, thought I was probably not drinking enough, but was doing ok. Today I filled up a 2ltre bottle with water, and have been filling up my glass from there. I still have a glass and a half to go before I get to the end and I am positively sloshing!

ohforfoxsake · 07/05/2012 19:08

maybe not so well after this weekend - I am NOT telling you what I had (but it was all wonderful!) I think the fact that it was all considered, and not eaten on the hoof, or out of boredom or whatever. I wanted what I had and enjoyed it.

I feel very differently about how I eat now, not just what I eat.

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 19:11

I think that's also very important, ohforfoxsake - actually what you have demonstrated is that you are in control of what you are eating.

Let's face it, outside the confines of Bootcamp, there is a real life that we all have to lead.

The key thing is not to allow the carb cravings to creep back and end up controlling you.

We made celeriac crisps this afternoon - they were fantastic with a sprinkling of Maldon salt...think we may be buying a deep fat fryer!
Agree the banter and support on these threads are fab and they have kept me more focused...

Lilyloo · 07/05/2012 19:36

Well back from my hen weekend in Portugal, went 7lb lighter thanks to bootcamp, hoping I didn't put all that back on but must confess I was most definitely not low carving this weekend.
Will weigh in tom to see the damage and get back into it.

Thegoddessblossom · 07/05/2012 20:30

Snacks: pepperami, 2 handfuls of mixed unsalted nuts, glass of red.

Tea: half of a courgette, mushroom and 4 egg omelette, the rest is for breakfast (if I can keep dh's hands off it).

SharonGless · 07/05/2012 20:49

I will be happy if I stay the same but I am enjoying my food so much more and in control of it, rather thn the other way round. I need to do boot camp this week to make up for the carb creep but can honestly say what a relief it has been to go away with friends andnot feel guilty about what I eat AND not to eat the children's leftovers

Hepsibaaah · 07/05/2012 21:02

Betty do you fry your celeriac crisps, or bake them in the oven? I've been baking, they taste amazing and dont last an hour, but wondering if frying might be a better option so I have more to scoff in one sitting

Clereiac has got to be my new best friend in the kitchen; mashed, baked, chipped all have the most wonderful flavour - even made a celeriac bubble and squeak for brekkie this am with some left over cabbage.

BettyBathroom · 07/05/2012 22:04

I have just started experimenting with celeriac - I deep fried everything today - I chipped some, they were good but not very crisy - thought they would work with a steak...then tried thickly slicing - that seemed a litle pointless, not as crispy as crisps and not enough texture and bite as the chips. The crisps were the best though - even the dcs were impressed and I'm on a mission to decrease refined carbs in their diet so that was a bonus. Smile
I can't tell how long they'd stay crisp as they didn't last very long...but given dh is allergic to nuts...we are always on the look out for carb friendly snacky bits.
Agree celeriac is under-rated just like cauliflower. Am loving the culinary challenge low carb is presenting.....hate getting stuck in a food rut!

wouldratherbeonthebeach · 07/05/2012 22:12

Thanks, it's so frustrating to put the effort in and not see the benefits Sad.
Will keep at it tho as desperate to lose at least another stone Wink

MNP · 07/05/2012 22:56

Evening.

DH agreed and smiled at seeing how far I can pulled my tummy in today :)

LittleFrieda · 07/05/2012 23:47

Thank you all on this thread for sharing what's working and what's not, and tips to stave off cheating. I am a week and a half behind you all, and very much benefitting from you meal ideas and advice. Thank you all. Esp BIWI for running tut show.

LittleFrieda · 07/05/2012 23:49

I would love to drink Pepsi Max, is one allowed?

WillieWaggledagger · 08/05/2012 08:26

i think you can have one but the sweeteners and caffeine might throw you off a bit

i did have a can of coke zero at the weekend because we went to a 21.45 showing at the cinema and i wasn't sure I would stay awake! (god i'm only 26 it really is tragic... i can recommend Headhunters, though, but beware it is quite gory)

BIWItheBold · 08/05/2012 08:29

Just beware, LF, that the artificial sweeteners can cause problems for some people - and in Bootcamp we are trying to avoid artificial anything ...

I can't believe I am still here doing this in week 4.

Over the past few days I have eaten a vast amount of cheese, nuts and cream. Not sure why really as I was not hungry, just felt very snacky. The good news is that my weight has not suffered. However I plan to be very strict for the next 3 days.

It is very re-assuring to find that you really can eat loads of calories from fat without gaining weight. Hopefully if I cut out the nuts and dairy my body may let go of another few pounds.

The plan for the next few days is eggs or protein shake for breakfast. Meat/fish with salad or soup for lunch. Meat and veg for dinner. All served with butter, mayo, oil dressing.

No nuts, no cheese, no cream, no chocolate, no pork scratchings, no pepperami.

MNP · 08/05/2012 10:18

I snack on carrots, cucumber, iceberg as it is the 'crunch' I need when snacks but not really hungry.

doradoo · 08/05/2012 10:44

Can I assume kohlrabi is ok? Can't find a carb count for it.

Yummy pork belly with five spice powder and chinese veg stir fry yesterday.

Today
Bacon and Eggs
Left over pork with salad
Stuffed aubergines

NotMostPeople · 08/05/2012 10:49

I've been losing and gaining 2lb's the last couple of days, today it was off again so I hope it stays that way.

I can identify with ohforfoxsake's post earlier I wasn't feeling great about myself at all and am now all bouncy, enjoying clothes again and looking so much better. I also have a DH with a smiley face.

LittleFrieda · 08/05/2012 11:35

Thanks for comments re Pepsi Max and the like. I'll avoid it.

I'm off to Greece in a few weeks, we're going to Mark Warner's new 5* hotel on Rhodes. I think I will be able to continue to low carb there. Cooked breakfast, greek salad for lunch and grilled meat or fish and veg in the evening.

Moggiemad · 08/05/2012 11:35

I want to echo the thanks to BIWI especially as well as all of you. The support on this thread is better than from any SW or WW meeting (and I`ve been to loads!). We know what to do and we know we can do it. Just keep on and if we fall sometimes, just get right back on and back to it.
Simple things work.
Keep it up folks.
Moggie

ohforfoxsake · 08/05/2012 11:37

I'm three pounds up after the weekend, and am surprised that is all. I do feel as though I've had my fun now and am more determined. I have another do next weekend, but will stay on bootcamp through it.
