Bootcamp Week 4 - Come Whine With Me

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 12:00

Welcome everyone!

Now we're into the difficult weeks - those of us who are actually in week 4. You may have found that your weight loss slowed down last week or even - as for me - has gone back up again.

Don't panic!

This is very common. Keep on keeping on (my mantra for this WOE) and things will start to happen for you again soon.

Don't think it's all falling apart and 'treat' yourself by cheating. That will only exacerbate things, and you will very definitely be reporting back here with a weight loss or - worse - disappearing altogether, thoroughly disenchanted with yourself and the whole low carb thang.

If you're gaining, or not seeing any weight loss, have a long, hard look at what you were eating last week. Did you relax too much, if you moved to Bootcamp Light? Have you allowed carb creep to happen?

If you're doing as I suggested and keeping a food/drink diary, compare last week with your first week. Why not go back to what you ate/drank in that first week - especially if it was a week when you definitely did see a loss?

And remember, weeks 1 and 2 are weeks where you are primarily losing fluid. From weeks 3 onwards, we are now dealing with the fat - and the going will, naturally, be a lot tougher.

Reasonable, long-term and sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but that's 2-4 packs of lard.

Come and share what's working for you - how are you feeling about this WOE now, now that you're a bit more used to it? What tips can you give to your fellow MN Bootcampers?

What's frustrating you? How can we help to make it better, or work more easily for you?

Thank you both. Thanks

I will have a go at the weekend.

Belly porkies fab, I roast n 140'C for 3-4 hours, cracking crackling and meat crispy but not shattery..nom nom I have with raw spinach and beansprouts in mayo.

LackaDAILYcarb · 09/05/2012 23:55

Betty, I was a real tea addict, but am now drinking rooibos green tea instead of my three morning cuppas! It tastes much less bitter than regular green tea.
I may even try some rooibos itself again. I tried drinking it years ago but didn't like It. But I used to take milk back then where now i don't so that might make a difference to the taste?
I'm feeling loads more cheerful :) Probably because I'm back on top of my anti inflammatories after missing them for a few days before my ultrasound scan.

Onwards and Downwards tomorrow though! Picnic with the school trip, so I have a huge salad prepared.

LackaDAILYcarb · 10/05/2012 00:02

That describes me to a T :o

well this woe means that my period sneaks up on me

i used to get a crashing headache 12 hours before it started and severe cramps on the first day. now i just get very slight cramps as it starts which is no warning at all!

(mind you it is still regular to the day so I don't really have an excuse)

NotMostPeople · 10/05/2012 11:30

I'm sticking with it, but struggling. It's not really the WOE's fault, but mine. I have never been very good at bothering to feed myself, so I'd usually skip lunch but spend the entire day snacking on all manner of rubbish. I feel so much better without eating all the rubbish but still don't really cook meals so it's been lots of ham, philly, coleslaw combinations. If DH is away (he often is) then I cook for the DC's but not myself.

I'm going to BIWI's shepherds pie for tonight so I actually eat something proper but lunch has always been my worst meal. I've got to force myself to make something for myself for lunch but other than another chicken salad I can't think.

BIWItheBold · 10/05/2012 11:38

How about making a little bit extra at dinner time, so that you can have the leftovers the next day for lunch?

Nothing wrong with what you've been eating (as long as you're not buying carby coleslaw and you're alright with the dairy element!) - but why not try just adding a bit of salad to it?

Or how about an omelette with salad?

Blimey, I feel knackered today. The only downside of this WOE I've noticed is that I don't seem to sleep quite as well - I have very vivid dreams (and also have to get up to wee!) Has anyone else found this?

It doesn't usually bother me but atm I'm in the middle of an 8-day stretch with work and university, so I made an executive decision and bunked off uni today! But then have spent the last 3 hours cleaning like a madwoman because the house is such a tip - am putting my feet up for an hour now...

Protein shake with flax and a few blueberries for breakfast
Lunch....hmm, think it will be sardine salad
Dinner is Thai green chicken curry, will do rice for dp/ds and veg for me

The water is helping. I even managed to throw out the remains of ds's last easter egg this morning without nibbling. I'm not hungry at all, really, though wouldn't say no to some Toblerone Grin

BIWItheBold · 10/05/2012 12:46

Actually low carbing usually means that you sleep much better! Although I know that some have reported that they sleep less, because they have so much more energy.

Toblerone? Pah. Nasty, over-sweet stuff. It is hugely calorific because it has not just sugar but also honey in it. You really, really don't want it. And it's made by Kraft who took over our own lovely Cadbury, so there's a good corporate reason not to want it as well Grin

OP posts:
BIWItheBold · 10/05/2012 12:48

.... and just one piece of Toblerone has 5.34g of carbs Shock

Hello I'm just starting this !
Will weigh in on other thread soon but just want to record for today so far.

Breakfast: scrambled eggs (2 eggs plus butter, no milk)

Snacked on some soya beans

Lunch: Tin of tuna with big dollop of full fat mayo; various salad leaves; plus a helping of feta cheese.
It felt so wrong but please tell me it's right .... tasted fantastic after the low fat stuff I have been using.

Lots of water.
3 cups of coffee (not so good I know).

later I will be in Starbucks and will cross that bridge when I come to it!

If this is the wrong place to post this please tell me to go away ....

Thegoddessblossom · 10/05/2012 13:33

Jeez, don't try and find lunch in EAT...am sitting opposite my colleague who came out with a toastie and crisps. I chose a teeny pot of prawn cocktail. Should have bought 2.... Sad

BIWItheBold · 10/05/2012 13:55

This is absolutely the right place to post, NigellasGuest - and you are very welcome Smile

Lunch is fabulous - just go easy with the cheese as it's not unlimited.

And soya beans aren't really a great choice - check the packet - I suspect they are very high in carbs, as are most beans.

But 'yay!' to this WOE (way of eating) - it is so tasty and rewarding and fulfilling after years of miserable, artificial low calorie/low fat stuff!

ohforfoxsake · 10/05/2012 14:03

Have just got the deep fat fryer out and experimented with celeriac chips and crisps.

Probably not the best lunch and I may have overdone it as now feel Envy and my teeth feel fizzy.

Welcome Nigellasguest Smile

NigellasGuest · 10/05/2012 14:09

thank you thank you !

teaandthorazine · 10/05/2012 14:12

Hi NigellasGuest good to see you here! Starbucks should be 'interesting'...

Don't worry BIWI there's no Toblerone in the house Wink

MNP · 10/05/2012 15:13

B1 : meds with 500mls
B2 : pâté with cucumber and green pepper
L : crispy belly pork and nuked broccoli
D : langoustine fried in butter&oil with leeks and mushrooms also in butter&oil.

doradoo · 10/05/2012 16:31

Help - my celeriac has gone orf so no cottage pie for us tonight - what can I do with my mince now it's defrosted instead -

I have leeks / shallots / half a slightly sad savoy cabbage / eggs / quark/ cheese / cream......

Any suggestions?

ohforfoxsake · 10/05/2012 16:46

I would make the cottage pie mince and have it with creamy-cheesy leeks and cabbage. In fact that's what we're having.

doradoo · 10/05/2012 16:47

ooooh that sounds yummy. Will give it a whirl!

Thanks forfox

Thegoddessblossom · 10/05/2012 17:34

made up for my pathetic EAT lunch by buying cooked chicken bits and olives with feta at the M&S at Waterloo. Grin

Breakfast was a small bowl of full fat greek yog with a few blackberries.

Now eating my nightly nuts and drinking my 1 glass of red.

Will then catch up on my water - only had about 3 pints today.

Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and salad for tea.

doradoo · 10/05/2012 17:38

Had a slight rethink and it will be meatloaf and veggies for tea.

teaandthorazine · 10/05/2012 17:48

I bought a BUCKET of Greek yoghurt today in Lidl - even lower carb than Total, so that's a bonus. Breakfasts will be yog and berries for a good while to come!

However, feel weird, tired, achey, out of sorts. Don't want Thai green curry, want pepperoni pizza and wine. Won't have it, but really want it. Grrrrr.
