BIWI's Bootcamp - Week 3 Weigh In - New Starters Welcome!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 29/04/2012 17:52

So our two weeks of Bootcamp seem to have gone well, with some spectacular losses. Between us I think we have lost enough to make 3 or 4 new MNetters!

It's up to you now how you want to proceed. If you have a lot of weight to lose, or you like the strictness of it, you can carry on with Bootcamp. New joiners should start with Bootcamp anyway.

If you are nearly at your target, or you were finding Bootcamp a bit too restrictive, then you can move to Bootcamp Light - or you could do a hybrid of the two, which is what I am doing - Bootcamp Monday to Thursday and Bootcamp Light Friday to Sunday (which means that you can include alcohol at the weekend!)

As a reminder, or for those who are new, these are the Bootcamp rules:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And this is the allowed list of veg:

Don?t eat any veg unless it?s on this list, and try and focus on eating those that are under 3g carbs per 100g:

Veg (raw)Carbs per 100g
Mushrooms0.4
Watercress0.4

Weighing in at 9st 2lbs after two weeks of bootcamp, I shall be doing bootcamp light now.

I stepped off the wagon in a small way yesterday (had some bread, some dumplings and some very sweet Onken yoghurt) and was rewarded with a mighty headache which persisted till lunchtime today.

I am now firmly back on the wagon.

NotMostPeople · 30/04/2012 18:26

How many macadamia nuts do you think are in one of the bags from Sainsburys? I've got a big bag and want to have an idea of how many I should stop at before I chomp through the lot.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 18:29

Can't you work it out from the weight on the back of your bag?

OP posts:
FreeButtonBee · 30/04/2012 18:37

Hi guys

I am back (again) - majorly fallen off the wagon recently (combination of health issues plus manic period at work) but I am DETERMINED to get lighter before the summer kicks in properly. Plus health issues likely to be massively improved if 1st lighter too!

I have been really good at going to hardcore pilates once a week for the past two months so I am now going to get back on track diet wise. I've never really lost tons in a week even with this WOE but aim is to be strict (for me) for the next two weeks and see how that goes. Wedding on Saturday will be a challenge but let's see how it goes.

SOmething BIWI said about catatrophising the future really resonated with me, so am not going to look too far ahead.

Also agreed that it is MUCH less carter eating this way!

Right, off to catch up - talk later.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 18:38

Welcome back, FBB!

OP posts:
NotMostPeople · 30/04/2012 18:49

Doh! BIWI why didn't I think of that?

encyclogirl · 30/04/2012 19:29

Hi all, stayed the same this week. Kind of bummed seeing as I went away for the weekend and was über good. Stil sticking to the plan. Hope to get under 10 stone this week.

Still though I lost 12 lbs so far and that's pretty good going in one month.

Now for the long hard slog part of the plan...

elastamum · 30/04/2012 19:44

Signing back in. 10st 7lb, 4lb lost in bootcamp. Am going to do BC lite and may have the odd glass of wine at the weekend. I have managed to modify my diet a lot over the past 2 weeks, so am eating very few carbs and feel loads better for it, even if the weight isnt going fast. But I do eat oatbran every now and again for breakfast when I cant face yet another egg!

BettyBathroom · 30/04/2012 21:10

Halfspamhalfbrisket Veggie food has just been a habit for me for a long time - I cook fairly adventurous food at home but I really struggle to get imaginative food when we eat out and I've always felt a bit green eyed about dh's meat choices. Not sure how low carbing will work with being veggie in the long term and that's the thing, I totally believe in this WOE - previously I had thought my veggie diet was healthy but it wasn't & I don't want to eat meat substitutes....I don't like the artificial taste and I started to think why not eat humanely reared meat - we already buy it for the kids & dh occasionally, so I just ploughed into the Sunday Roast - not a totally startling flavour - but then traditional food never was my thing....we'll spice it up the next time. Wink
I don't think we'll become 7 nights-a-week meat eaters - dh is too fond of my veggie food - he's my biggest fan Grin...but we'll throw some meat dishes into the mix, see where is takes us.

Food diary for today

B 2 eggs & a low carb choc truffle
L Leftovers - roast beef, fresh tomato sauce & cauliflower mash
D Egg Masala with Caulifower Rice

Snacks - handful of Macademia nuts & 3 more truffles Blush....thankfully they are finished now!

Hepsibaaah · 30/04/2012 21:16

Evening all - lots of us again!
2.5 litres of water today, is it weird that I now don't need to rush to the loo every 5 minutes? Think drinking so much has helped my bladder tone, and even more worrying I can now tell the difference between feeling thirsty and hungry?? What a state my poor body must have been in ....
Today -
B - smoked mackerel
L - boiled egg and masses of salad with mayo dressing
S - grilled chick with salad & dressing

Bet I only shift a pound off by thursday. This is going to be painful and slow.

CobOnTheCorn · 30/04/2012 21:18

Please can I join?

I'm 10st 5lb.

I've been low carbing for about 8 or 9 weeks and following John Briffa escape the diet trap so having yoghurt and berries for breakfast, handful of nuts for snack etc.

All was going well (I lost over a stone) and then I put on a pound last week so I need to refocus and think bootcamp might help me.

I'm going to struggle with breakfast though, having been used to eating yoghurt. Please can you offer me some suggestions (I usually have eggs for lunch so would prefer not to have them for brekkie too).

heartstart · 30/04/2012 21:34

Hi have been doing low carb for a week and lost no weight, not sure why as am in ketosis anyway am going to persevere so starting wt is 16 st

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 21:38

Welcome, Cob!

Breakfast doesn't have to be a 'special' meal, with specific breakfast fods. How about leftovers from the previous night's dinner?

Or bacon and mushrooms (as long as you don't have bacon every day)
Low carb sausages (ditto)

heartstart - list what you've been eating/drinking and let's see if we can identify why.

OP posts:
heartstart · 30/04/2012 22:04

Here we go

Breakfast either boiled eggs or scrambled with butter plus toms, or cucumber mug of tea fried egg bacon and flax bread sat
Lunches smoked mackerel salad inc mayo, chicken and avocado salad, smoked salmon and toms and cue
Dinner Thai green curry plus celeriac mash, cinnamon chicken, oriental cabbage parcels all from recipe thread also spag Bol without spag plus buttered shredded cabbage, courgettes or green beans or a mixture

Snacks some cheese and nuts but cut down on after first couple of days and haven't snacked as not hungry

Drank
At least 2l water everyday plus tea and coffee x1 each and often more water.

Exercise - walking every day for school run or with dog at weekends so 4.5 miles at least each day

Thanks

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 22:08

How much fat would you say you're eating? What meat have you been using - e.g. if it's chicken, have you been using a fattier piece like thigh, or have you been using lean breast meat?

And how much do you weigh now?

How long have you been low carbing?

OP posts:
OliviaLMumsnet · 30/04/2012 22:12

Ah
Here you are
Can I start a day late?

OliviaLMumsnet · 30/04/2012 22:13

And what do I need for brekkie tomorrow?

londonone · 30/04/2012 22:13

DH out watching footie tonight so treated myself with king prawns with home made garlic mayo, then fillet steak with broccolli and creamed spinach. Soooooooo delicious. Also experimented with trying to make a low carb brownie using flax and ground almonds. It was an unmitigated disaster and sent swiftly binwards! Probably a good thing in the long run

londonone · 30/04/2012 22:14

Breakfast wise I often have a small plate of smoked salmon, sometimes with a little cream cheese on the side. Or Parma Ham and Mozzarella

heartstart · 30/04/2012 22:17

Hi chicken thigh generally and breast in green curry so added coconut cream, plus sealed meat in olive oil. Weigh 16st now have low curbed this time for a week. -no wt loss. Previously just stopped eating bread, pasta etc. last year lost 2.5 stone through various routes but cutting out bread def a good thing for me

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 22:19

Olivia! Better not have those Kettle Chips after all Grin

Eggs will be your friend. Not just for breakfast, but they are easy/quick and therefore especially good at breakfast time.

OP posts:
OliviaLMumsnet · 30/04/2012 22:23

I have been v successful in the past with India Knight but this was pre DC
Breakfast is my worry. Am really grumpy and slow not good in the morning at the best of times.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 22:26

Don't treat it as a special meal that requires special food. Have something left over from dinner the night before.

Or - if you're not hungry straight away - have something at around 10ish. Are you going to do Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light? If you do the latter, then you can have yoghurt and berries/nuts.

OP posts:
elliephant · 30/04/2012 22:27

Is weigh in here ? If so, I remain 10st 4lbs, no loss but no gain either. I put it down to water chocolate retention. Think I need to stop sloping off at weekends

Marabou · 30/04/2012 22:28

This may have been covered before, but what's the difference between Total fullfat and Total 2 percent? They both have the same amount of carbs per 100g...
