BIWI's Bootcamp - Week 3 Weigh In - New Starters Welcome!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 29/04/2012 17:52

So our two weeks of Bootcamp seem to have gone well, with some spectacular losses. Between us I think we have lost enough to make 3 or 4 new MNetters!

It's up to you now how you want to proceed. If you have a lot of weight to lose, or you like the strictness of it, you can carry on with Bootcamp. New joiners should start with Bootcamp anyway.

If you are nearly at your target, or you were finding Bootcamp a bit too restrictive, then you can move to Bootcamp Light - or you could do a hybrid of the two, which is what I am doing - Bootcamp Monday to Thursday and Bootcamp Light Friday to Sunday (which means that you can include alcohol at the weekend!)

As a reminder, or for those who are new, these are the Bootcamp rules:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And this is the allowed list of veg:

Don?t eat any veg unless it?s on this list, and try and focus on eating those that are under 3g carbs per 100g:

Veg (raw)Carbs per 100g
Mushrooms0.4
Watercress0.4
Spinach0.8

Hello all and what brilliant results! I'm down to 83.8kg, which is 1.4kg down from the slight peak I had last week, so I'm well pleased. In total I've lost 2.4kg in about 2.5 weeks, woowoo!

Will continue doing bootcamp light, as I feel much better on about 50g carbs/day than going down to 20g/day. My ketostix are still light pink even with 3l of water per day, so it seems to be working.

Have a great week everyone!

Fuzzybirds · 30/04/2012 14:38

Hi fellow bootcampers and well done on such fab losses! After no movement for over a week, I found myself another 2lb down on Saturday morning. However, I have cheated a fair bit over the weekend due to DS's birthday and this morning have put one of those pounds straight back on. Could be worse though...

So I'm now 9st 1lb, total bootcamp loss of 3lbs. The plan now is to do bootcamp during the week and the lite version at weekends, being 4ft 11 I could do with being around 8st 7 but will be happy if I can at least remain comfortable in size 12 clothes. Looking forward to a steak dinner tonight!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/04/2012 14:41

Just checking in, I was the same this morning still on 10:2, marginally frustrated by that, but am definitely carrying on bootcamp.

Fiveisenough · 30/04/2012 14:53

Can I join? I have been following you all. I weighed in last Monday at 11st 9 and did the boot camp for the week. Weight today is 11st 2 so am looking forward to the second week. Everyone is doing do well and inspired me to start!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 14:54

You are very welcome, Fiveisenough - and great progress so far!

I thought we were allowed nuts now?

BettyBathroom · 30/04/2012 15:06

Signing in for Bootcamp-lite - ahem as a meat eater now Blush - had my first slice of cow in 25 years yesterday. Current weight 60kg - hoping to maintain ny weight around that level.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 15:07

some nuts, Pistey! The macadamias are fabulous - but try not to over-indulge ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/04/2012 15:16

I bought one small bag with the shopping and shovelled them all. That will be it for the week. Honest.

But they were loverly Grin

MNP · 30/04/2012 15:41

Signing in with the same weight as last Thursday of 217, a Bootamp loss of 5, will be staying on Bootcamp as a bucketful still to loose.

Am weighing in on Sunday's.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 30/04/2012 15:52

Betty - what made you Turn? I'm a veggie of 25years too and keep contemplating eating meat but never quite actually do it. I'm sure I'm just a veggie by habit (now that you can get ethically produced organic meat I don't feel het up so much by the ethics). It'd make low carbing a hell of a lot easier.

LackaDAILYcarb - ta! It's a particularly good name for a veggie, no? Grin

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 30/04/2012 16:31

BIWI/flipflopflap
I'm assuming tofu is OK for veggies? High protein and v low carb - it's got to be better than a veggie burger?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 16:44

I think so, Spam - can't see any reason why it wouldn't be good - but if I'm wrong, flipflopflap will hopefully correct me!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 16:45

Are there any scientists on here? If so, would you care to have a read of this and translate it into English for me, please?!

OP posts:
mummyduff · 30/04/2012 16:46

BIWI I'm the same been years since in the 9st region and agree so nice to be wearing clothes I like rather than cover. I need to loose a further 10lb so a little way to go yet, but I can now see the end in sight.

Bet the clothes shopping was fun, I will need to do that soon Grin

itdidntworkout · 30/04/2012 16:49

Why no balsamic vinegar in the vinegrette? Does this apply to cider vinegar too?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 16:49

No - cider vinegar is fine. Too much sugar (therefore carbs) in balsamic.

OP posts:
BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 16:51

Cider vinegar = 0.1g carbs per 100ml
Balsamic vinegar - 12.5g carbs per 100ml

OP posts:
itdidntworkout · 30/04/2012 16:53

Wow, that's a huge difference!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 17:02

It may well vary according to brand - but that was the one I found on Sainsbury's website

ilovemyteddy · 30/04/2012 17:13

I'm no scientist BIWI (I have O level Chemistry from waaaay back!) but it sounds like they are saying that, subject to more study, a low-carb diet could be useful in preventing cardiovascular disease. Is that how you read it?

Sat at the Doctors for 40 minutes this afternoon whilst he was dealing with an emergency and they have those screens that play you health messages. The message about healthy eating was the same old rubbish about carbs having half the calories of fat, therefore fill up on carbs and you won't be hungry... Hmm

Oh, and a healthy weightloss is 1lb a fortnight So actually I did fine on bootcamp as I lost one whole pound in the two weeks Grin

londonone · 30/04/2012 17:23

Hello all. Signing in at 13.7. So total bootcamp loss is 7ibs I think. Glad to see that we are all onj the same thread whether we are bootcamp or bootcamp light. Was hoping that those of us still on bootcamp with a fair bit still to lose wouldn't be shunned, by all you lighters! Felt a bit demoralised a few days ago when so many people seemed to be posting about getting into 8's and 10's but have pulled myself together and reminded myself this is about me and to stop comparing myself.

I am aiming to eventually fit into a small size 12 on the high street i.e Reiss not M and S! 1 and three quarter stone down so far and still feeling positive. Next mini target is to be under 13 stone by next holiday at the beginning of June.

Sorry for rambling on but these threads really are fantastic support.

mummyduff · 30/04/2012 17:30

London you are doing great, I think the best way is to set yourself small goals, that's what I've done over the last 2 1/2 years.
I am looking at this as the way I will always eat and not a diet. I love the choices and to be honest bread, pasta etc always played havoc with my tummy.

londonone · 30/04/2012 17:35

Aw thanks mummyduff.

TMI alert - I used to be rather farty (lovely DH christened me fartbum) but since adopting this WOE I very rarely do it at all! Do we think it's the wheat?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 17:55

londonone - I know it's hard not to be downhearted when others seem to be doing so well, but you have to see this as something unique to you. It isn't a competition! And after all, you have lost a fantastic amount already! Losing half a stone in Bootcamp is brilliant.

And yes to no fartybum on this way of eating! It's much better for your digestion, I believe. My IBS disappears when I follow a low carb diet.
