Hi, I'm on day 1 of The Shred. I'm in love with Anita's body....very inspiring!

nicnacinoonoo · 19/05/2012 11:18

Hi super and mychild I'd love to have Anita's abs, they're fab.
I have the same name on MFP if you want to friend me. I'm doing ripped in 30 at the moment too. I find 6w6p a bit harder, it's all cardio and abs but it gives great results especially after level 2. Just hope I can get back there again. Still feeling rotten with this cold today Sad

jellibelli · 19/05/2012 11:32

Knottyhair as a 44 year old myself, that must have been a 'surprise'! But huge congratulations!

Crikey yes if you have good diet and do 30DS you will lose weight/inches. I second the advice to measure as well as weigh as that's what changed for me first. Also take care of your knees and ensure you keep your knees over your ankles (and not let them stray over your toes) when doing the lunges etc.

Superdee what's the abdo DVD? 6W6P is my favourite. It is a long circuits ~15 mins, repeated once. It's not too much cardio but as you would imagine lots of ab work including lots of lying down stuff

Mychild you may ache today but try to do the shred again in the morning it should reduce the achiness for the rest of the day. It will go away by about Tuesday and the it's much better. Honest!

A quick Ripped L4 for me today and a run planned for the morning if it isn't raining too much.

notyummy · 19/05/2012 11:36

Jelli - I would say L1 6W6P hasn't that much cardio in....but I think L2 has!

Not that much JM going on here. Really pressed for time this week. Did a Matt Roberts workout on Tuesday (He has a book called Fit for your Shape with some good routines in) as I had given blood on Monday and didn't feel up to anything else. 5 mile run on Wednesday. Then nothing until today. Intend to perhaps do NMTZ tomorrow and then get up early on Monday and do a Killer or 6W6P.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 19/05/2012 12:06

Day off today.
I actually feel odd taking a day off even though she's says I only need to do 6W6p a minimum of 5 days.

notyummy there is a bit of cardio in Level 2 of 6W6P but not as much as in 30DS I didn't think. Or maybe I'm just fitter and it doesn't seem as hard! Grin
There are jumping jackknives, and awful rear lunge with knee raise things which I can't do fast, and the dreaded mountain climbers which are killing my carpet as well as me!
It doesn't seem to pull work my abs as much as level 1 did but I'm sure it's doing something as I lose 2lbs in sweat every time Grin

mychild I can remember the early days of the Shred, I am still admiring their bodies 3 months later, I can't see mine ever being that toned! I notice Bashira (sp?) in 6W6P has really muscly thighs and a tiny waist, my excuse is that I'm so short I haven't got room for a waist!

Have a good weekend everyone

gypsyfloss · 19/05/2012 15:19

6w6p L1 today. I am amazed at how much I have improved , even though it's all been a bit hit and miss due to essay deadlines and a sore shoulder.

Today I did 12 (12!) spider press-ups a la the advanced style twice- I even showed them off to DH who plans to incorporate them into his karate class warm-up tomorrow. He quite often nicks bits of Jillian and tells the kids they're from his wife's bikini body dvd. The teenage lads don't know whether to be embarrassed by the fact they're doing " girl stuff" or even more embarrassed by the fact that they can't actually manage to do it Grin

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 19/05/2012 15:22

I'm just marking my place. I had an operation on Monday, but soon as I'm over that I'm getting back on it!

gypsyfloss · 19/05/2012 20:43

Hope you have a swift and painless recovery Real .

Happypiglet · 19/05/2012 20:44

Well I just tried Killer L2 OMG it's hard even the warm up could count as an extra circuit. but I did better than I thought I would. Have decided I am right legged though as can only do one legged burpees on my right side. Grin Cardio stuff is ok though and it is nice to give my arms a rest...
about to ruin it all with bacon sarnies and crisps!
Might try a ripped level 4 tomorrow before my nieces 2nd birthday highly calorific birthday buffet
Have a lovely rest of weekend everyone.

Happypiglet · 19/05/2012 20:46

Ps gypsy well done on spider push ups....

notyummy · 19/05/2012 21:25

youve- I find L2 6w6p one of the hardest Jillians for cardio! I think it us the combination for me, but the series of exercises done in circuit 2 really fast kills me. I always finish it. I always do the hard version. I always a minimum of a 3kg weight. But I am destroyed everytime!! Grin It quite bugs me because I can do a 47 min 10k/ 1 hr 43 half marathon so no slouch at cardio stuff. But at least it means I am getting a decent workout everytime!

notyummy · 19/05/2012 21:26

Bit tiddly. Apologies for typos!

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 19/05/2012 21:29

Thanks gypsy. Though since my last post I've been to the ooh dr and have got an infection. So may be out of action for a while yet. Know it sounds lame but I really hate it when I can't exercise! Sad

threestepsforward · 19/05/2012 22:04

Evening all Smile

Well done everyone with good stuff continuing! I did L4 Ripped here today, it wasn't as bad as I remembered, although I was puffing away like puffing thing on the burpees / scissor kick cardio bit!

Hello to new peeps Superdee, Mychild and Realhousewife Smile

Realhousewife and Nicna hope you're both feeling better soon.

Have a good rest of weekend...

child I remember the early days of shred! had difficulty getting up and down from the loo my thighs were so sore, but jelli is right in a couple of days that soreness will go.

No JM for me yesterday, went on a bike ride up and down the hills. Good news is I burnt 2000 cals, the bad news is whatever I do today will have to be upper body only as I really feel it in my hips, must be my age!
Have a good weekend.

notyummy · 20/05/2012 10:10

Those Burpees/scissor kicks are tough!

Did 10k yesterday and didn't enjoy it for some reason. Some days I can run much further than that and feel fine. Other days it just feels hard!

Dh has hit tendinitis in his Achilles from running and has been told not to run and no jumping so can't do shred or ripped with me. We are going to do NMTZ together today instead.

threestepsforward · 20/05/2012 10:54

Oh no notyummy, that sounds bad? Is it long-term rest for your DH or just for a while? Have fun NMTZ'ing today Smile

Wow thisis, that's brilliant! Burning 2000 cals on the bike, I reckon you would feel it the next day, whether 5 years old or 100!

Off to walk the dog shortly then bits and pieces to do at home. Will be Jillianing later. Might even attempt a low Shred and Killer 1 together (although I often think that and by the time I've finished the first one I change my mind!)

Have a good day all Smile

I had an unsatisfying run today, a bit like Notyummy yesterday. It is a lovely morning too. It just felt like hard work and i was slow. Still it's done now and garden jobs are waiting.

Sorry to hear about Mr Notyummy and his injury. My DH is just getting over a calf injury and to be honest it's a bit of a pain and he can still Jillian , just is careful with running and has had more success on the treadmill rather than outside. But it's a biti boring running on my own. I wish him a swift recovery. Notyummy you are right about L2 6W6P, we tend to do L1 as we think it is a better ab workout as we do cardio by running etc, but there is plenty of cardio in L2 Grin.

threestepsforward · 20/05/2012 18:01

I seriously take my hat off to all the runners, I'm just useless at it! DP and I used to go together a few years back and I used to stop mid-way through, my wall I guess (at about 1 mile Grin). I could easily have carried on, I just couldn't for some reason.

I have just done L1 Shred followed by L1 Killer

Was getting tired towards the end but stuck with it, I only used 1.5 kg weights for both though. I had to laugh at the beginning of the DVD, in their disclaimer section, it says, among other things, to stop if you experience any discomfort during the exercises, hmm Grin

Hoping to fit in some more JM tomorrow if I can.

See you then Smile

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 20/05/2012 18:44

Hello!

jelli has kindly directed me here from our long term C25K thread.

I did the 30 day shred last year, and also have Jillian's power yoga DVD. Reading the thread brought back happy memories Grin. But I haven't done much of either recently (or indeed much running - but did a half marathon yesterday but in a far slower time than notyummy!).

I've noticed in recent months that middle aged spread is definitely happening around my tummy. So have invested in 6W6P and planning to give it a go later. How often should I be planning to do it to get results?

notyummy · 20/05/2012 19:23

Hi neithershredded! I couldnt run a half marathon in that time at the moment either Grin. That is my pb which was last summer. Suspect I would be nearer 1 hr 50/55 at the moment, but I haven't run longer than 9 miles since last year Blush. Now the weather looks to be improving I hope to gradually lengthen my long run by a mile each week.

6W6P - probably 5 times a week ideally? If that sounds boring the perhaps you could mix it up with the Shred, or Rupped.

gypsyfloss · 20/05/2012 19:26

Hello Neither I think Jillian suggests 5-6 times/wk for 6w6p but I have to admit I don't do that. I try to do alternate days with it mainly because I'm nursing a ropey shoulder that plays up but also I am intrinsically a lazy arse Grin

I think it's quite fast; definitely so on L2 and you do need to concentrate to get the form right but I do notice it working.

I am tempted to have a go a C25K .I used to run but had some knees probs. I wonder whether now that I have much stronger legs muscles I might find it easier? it might be an option for sore shoulder days.

Hope everyone & their DH's with injuries are getting better and Realhousewife I hope your ab's have kicked in and you're improving.

gingercat12 · 21/05/2012 13:01

Hello!

I am back from a week in a lovely farmhouse holiday. Managed to do 6W6P neraly everyday. Family thought it is a kind of midlife crisis and they all encouraged me and accommodated me Grin. I might have eaten too many Devon scones though. No scales for me this week.

Congratulations knotty

gypsyfloss · 21/05/2012 13:11

Love the idea of a mid-life exercise rather than sports car crisis gingercat

notyummy · 21/05/2012 15:38

I got up at 550 today to do a L3 shred before catching the train up to London for meetings. I am not a natural early
morning person so it nearly killed me'! Glutes were sore after NMTZ yesterday. Glad I did it though.

Mid life exercise crisis must be better than having a toy boy !!
