Or mid-life exercise crisis might in fact lead to a toy boy Grin

gypsyfloss · 21/05/2012 16:55

God notyummy you are very dedicated!

I wonder if my midlife ( half hearted) exercise crisis could snare me the handsome young Waitrose delivery boy Grin I could say he came free with the groceries if DH questioned why I had a young man tied up helping in kitchen...

Happypiglet · 21/05/2012 18:08

LOL at mid life exercise crisis...and shame on you gypsy!
Did a L1 Shred yesterday which was not at all because I was too stuffed from my nieces birthday buffet but because I wanted to see if I have improved any! Found CV stuff easier than when I first Shreded except for jumping jacks my personal nemisis! But the one minute strength sets are hard....I don't think she ever does one minute of any one exercise in any other DVD and the squats with shoulder press hurt!
Today I made myself do all of BFBM and again I feel I have improved except for circuit 6
Waiting in for garage door repair man again tomorrow so may attempt NMTZ....
not yummy 5.50am is a hideous thought at anytime never mind for exercise!

threestepsforward · 21/05/2012 20:48

Unhand that delivery boy gypsyfloss Grin

Happypiglet, I know what you mean about Shred! I hadn't done it for a while as I was doing Ripped and similar where you don't spend as long on the same strength move - I really noticed it when I went back to Shred, particularly L1 as it goes, it feels painfully relentless!

Notyummy inspired by your 5am L3 Shred, I did L3 Shred.... at a civilised time! I really hate doing any exercise in the morning so your 5am session sounds like hell on earth, hats off to you!

OP posts:
realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 21/05/2012 20:52

Well not not! I too did the shred at 5am once, I could barely walk for the rest of the day as it was my first go back on it after a long break, and I had to take a few days off to recover! No one could believe I was in such a state after a 20min workout - I had to walk down stairs sideways! Blush

notyummy · 21/05/2012 20:52

And the thing is, there is NO WAY he would give you an STD, because he is a Waitrose delivery boy.....Grin.

superdeeduper · 21/05/2012 21:42

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Now up to L2 RI30 and I bloody hate it!! Can anyone do those abdominal lifts where you have your hands by your sides then go up into table?? God they are the work of the devil. Have used the top tip of using the arm of the sofa for the plank cardio part tho and it does make it a bit easier.

Still waiting on 6pack dvd to arrive and hope to maybe do that 3 times a week as well as RI30. Can't wait to move onto L3 and only 3 more times to do L2 then I will never go back to it! Is it just me or does Jillian seem more aggressive in RI30?

Ooh and let me know when you all started getting results. Will I really be Ripped in 30 if I stick to it 6 days a week? (Please tell me something will happen!!!)

gypsyfloss · 21/05/2012 22:14

I couldn't do those table tops either and tbh found her general style a bit more off -putting. I think if I had started with RI30 I wouldn't have stuck it out.

I don't honestly know when I started seeing results but I am most definitely a dress size smaller and can see my thighs shrinking. I've been Jillianing for about 6 mths but in a very on and off way.

Waitrose boy is sadly young enough to be my son had I started a little earlier but too old to bagsy for my firstborn. He did have some top tips on essay referencing software though and told me all about his plans for Sandhurst. I honestly didn't keep him chatting for tooooooo long :) Oh and if his Ma is reading this...you have a charming son, he's a credit to you.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 22/05/2012 00:32

Hello all, thanks for the welcome and the advice.

So I've 6W6P'd the last 2 days. Feels like hard work, so it must be doing me good (or so I keep telling myself).

I'm also having a mid-life exercise crisis. I have been fit on and off for stretches of my adult life, but have had too many a few years off. DH started getting fit 3 or 4 years ago - he was working away from home for long periods, so bought a bike and started cycling and running again, and has inspired me.

notyummy - amazing dedication!

gypsy - I'd really recommend C25K. I can honestly say it has changed my life (for the better!).

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 22/05/2012 07:54

Above and beyond at that hour of the day notyummy!
NMTZ for me yesterday and as the weather is set fair for the next few days will probably be cycling, I hate doing DVD's inside when the weather is good.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 22/05/2012 10:56

I was just about to go a buy RI30 but after the above comments I'm now having second thoughts!

However I'm still not sure about 6W6P. Level 2 doesn't seem to stretch my abs as much as the shred or level 1 did and I still have real problems keeping my balance on several of the moves as they are so fast.

I only want to get rid of my tummy flab and be a stone lighter must keep going Grin

notyummy · 22/05/2012 11:16

I quite like Ripped, but would agree that she is a bit more shouty! I think she was probably told that people like the slightly scary/no nonsense approach and has taken it slightly too far. Having said that, it's only a DVD so I can tune her out. There are tough bits in every level except L1 (which oddly I think is the easiest of any of her DVDs - easier than L1 Shred etc) I like some of the 'different' moves that don't appear in any of her other stuff - like the one legged stuff and down dog press up things (even if they do hurt at the time!) Just off out for a run.

gingercat12 · 22/05/2012 12:50

DH is quite pleased with my midlife crisis. He could imagine worse. I shall have to start ordering food from Waitrose Blush
Hope DH's midlife crisis will not be too much worse...

notyummy I count myself an early riser (although not today), but exercising so early just sounds too hard. Jillian always assumes we do these exercises early in the morning, but I can't wake my family up with my not too elegant / co-ordinated rockstar jump to cannonball.

Am doing Killer Buns L3 at the weekends and 6W6P L1 during the week. Depending on how it works out, I might re-start the Shred or Ripped when I finish Killer Buns (or she finishes me off more likely...) I cannot hear her shout, I am too busy concentrating.

gypsy I cannot even do 1 proper spider push-up. Sad I also cannot do the side-plank, although I did not have my exercise shoes on me on holiday, and that made it much harder.

Happypiglet · 22/05/2012 12:52

Have done NMTZ today and on the back of BFBM yesterday I can really feel it! I actually like her style in Ripped... Going back to Shred felt a bit namby pamby plus they are really good work outs from L2 onwards. I also like the format which echos the Shred and it can be fitted in easily to a busy day.
Stuck in waiting for garage door repair man so can't go out on bike to take advantage of sun grrrr...

threestepsforward · 22/05/2012 16:51

Afternoon all Smile

Just done Ripped L3. Yes yes yes she does shout, much more...I agree, I can picture numerous management meetings focusing on her Unique Selling Point for new DVDs! I managed to do all the jumping lunges without dissolving into near tears, result!

Superdee if you are doing Ripped 6 days a week, plus some 6W6P you will definitely notice changes Smile

Now if someone could point me to a DVD that makes my legs 3 inches longer I'd be much obliged Grin

Hope people managed to get out and enjoy some sunshine in and around waiting in for supermarket deliveries, pesky repair people ...

OP posts:
Happypiglet · 22/05/2012 17:58

I too would love a '3inch longer legs in 30' DVD!
Well I went out today on the school run in a vest top! And whilst I cannot say 'I rocked it' I thought I looked quite passable... All those godawful press ups are actually finally making a little bit of difference...although I can still only do half a set the proper way without dropping onto my knees! Grin

threestepsforward · 22/05/2012 18:10

Yay at lovely toned arms Happypiglet Smile

Was looking at mine today, sitting in the garden skiving off work and they were catching the sun...they remined me of plump pink Walls sausages Grin

OP posts:
gypsyfloss · 22/05/2012 18:59

I think the Jillian toned thing just creeps up on you. I love toned arms but when I shred with > 3kg I am convinced I get shot putter arms!

I did 6w6p L1 today...well half of it cos the sodding laptop battery died and by the time it had rebooted I was beyond starting again. I wouldn't mind but I was quite into it today!

wearymum200 · 22/05/2012 21:57

Please wise mumsnetters, can you advise me which JM dvd to get? I have been doing Davina high energy 5, but the workouts don't feel like they're hurting enough iyswim. I have little time ,so the shorter workout format appeals. Oh and i don't have any weights.
Any advice?
Thanks

notyummy · 22/05/2012 22:04

Shred and Ripped in 30 are both short (20/25 mins.) possibly best to start with Shred I think. You will def use weights. Maybe a set, as some exercises def easier than others so changing weights can be handy. 1/2/3kg set would be good for a beginner.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 23/05/2012 05:55

I find I can get away with using 2 bottles if water or tins of baked beans on level 1 of the shred. Haven't got further than that yet though! And trust me, you still feel it...

notyummy · 23/05/2012 06:22

That may work for a couple of weeks (the tins, that is) but it is much lighter weights than she intends you to be using and you won't get the same toning results if you stick to them. So yes, by all means use (i think a lot of people do whilst in the process of buying weights) but it won't be challenging at all for very long. And unfortunately it should feel really tough to be working effectively. Sad but true.

Happypiglet · 23/05/2012 10:29

So just done Ripped L1 as I ache badly from BFBM and NMTZ over the last two days. Was still a great work out. and my garage is mended so off out on the bike in a bit...
I second the need for weights. I have a 1,2,3 kg set and use all of them over her workouts. Can't imagine doing plank rows on cans of beans! Weary mum I would start with Shred.

notyummy · 23/05/2012 11:43

Another early start today, but not quite as bad as Monday. L4 Ripped at 615. I like it more than L3, but am not keen on those charayumba press-ups (or whatever they are called....) at all. Only once managed to do both sets without dropping to my knees, and today was not that day! Needed to do 3 on my knees. And the press-up on weights with row is equally tough.

threestepsforward · 23/05/2012 13:31

Another one here recommending Shred as a starting point Wearymum... Come back and join us when you get it Smile

Notyummy I do all the push-up stuff on my knees Blush. Every now and then I try the full ones but my arms feel like they're about to explode!

Rest day for me today as I have my geeeeetar lesson this afternoon. It's a 5 mile round trip on the bike so at least I'll have done a little bit of exercise!

Have a good day all Smile
