RI30 L3D7 (yesterday) and D8 (today). Really feeling it in my knees so think I may take a break from Jillian once I've done L4. Also, DP has suggested I'm getting a tad beefy (ahem)

threestepsforward · 25/04/2012 09:57

Apologies notyummy, no more talk of my garden (it was all Life's fault for introducing those links to the thread Grin)

Rosalux aw, really? Beefy? Do you think he meant toned, but just didn't phrase it right? What weights have you been using? I'd imagine you'd have to go with heavy, heavy weights to get beefy. I bet you don't at all, in fact I bet you look great!

Sorry to hear about your knees too. I'd certainly consider giving JM a break to give your knees a rest but I wouldn't if you're fit and health and enjoying it.

OP posts:
knottyhair · 25/04/2012 10:02

Rosalux, I assume by "beefy" your DP means muscly, not that you emit some sort of Bovril odour Grin.

Ripped L1 done today. I really ached when I got up this morning - chest, arms, thighs.... will definitely try not to take 2 weeks off again! One of my friends did 6W6P last night for the first time and texted me afterwards to say she had "pinged her lady area doing the side planks" Grin.

Happypiglet · 25/04/2012 10:18

Ouch.... That is all I can say to that knotty hair!
have done all of NMTZ this morning...first time I have tried one of the long ones for some weeks... First 5 circuits are awful then I find it winds down slowly to the last circuit which I really like... It reminds me of doing old school stuff (callenthetics I think it was called or something) when I was a teenager in the 80s!
sure I will feel it tomorrow though.
It's like monsoon country here today so may be forced to clean.... Ug..

greenfig · 25/04/2012 11:38

We'll never get JM to come & talk with all this lewd behaviour going onShock
3steps you made meGrin more than the links!
rosalux it's great to have such support from the dh when you're working so hard isn't it?Hmm
gwythian I felt the same way & still sometimes do wimp out & swap in a few pilates exercises for the too hard/can't do because of my back ones. I did NMTZ last night & 6w6p in the am then 1/2 of BFBM this am. I'm no longer as stiff & find the cool down stretches don't burn anymore Iyswim. I will try upping some weights notyummy thanks, I'm still being cautious re my elbow but think I could push myself to do dead lifts. Def couldn't w any shoulder /arm raise stuff though aughh am way too weak! happy I need to join you in the cleaning too, may even strap my weights round my ankles-who'd have thought it!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 25/04/2012 11:57

Hello, haven't been on for a while

I had 3 days off last week, as I was having a lovely time in Paris!

On Monday i didn't do anything either but felt so guilty that I did 6W6P twice yesterday!
I thought it would be easier in the morning but it wasn't. I have got so used to doing it before bed now.

I was 9st 1 and a half on Monday morning, so still losing weight slowly. However I can't tell if my tummy flab is going down, the tape measure says 'no' Grin but I am definitely getting waist dimples!

I have started doing the workout with shoes on. My Argos mat disintegrated. The mountain climbers were just too much for it! I find shoes help a lot with plank jacks, otherwise my feet are slipping all over the place and it makes it twice as hard.

I really struggle with the last lot of side planks as by then I am sweating like a pig perspiring and my hand gradually slips, and i still can't pull myself up very far for any of the sit up type thingies, maybe my head is too heavy Grin

knotty i think my arms are becoming a bit beefy, but my stomach is still more blancmangy!

What is RI30 like? does it have lots of cardio jumping? I didn't like all the jumping in the shred much.

Most people of my height seem to be about 8 stone 7, so that is my goal. although I will be ecstatic to get down below 9. I wasn't really doing it to lose weight either! If i eat any less I wouldn't have any energy so I think I must be eating the wrong sort of things to lose weight.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Jellybellyrbest · 25/04/2012 11:58

Hi there! Just found this thread & wondering if any of you started the Shred post-natally? Am day 12 today & have my DVD all ready to go! Can't start yet, but how soon dya think I'll be able to? It sounds tough....

notyummy · 25/04/2012 12:04

Depends on your tummy tbh - if you have diastasis recti I think you would have to be very cautious. You probably still have lots of relaxin in your system so would need to go carefully. See what your HV thinks. It may also depend on your base fitness levels and what you are used to. I worked out throughout pregnancy, including light weights, squats/lunges etc up to my due date (not the Shred on my due date though!) I had a difficult delivery but by the 3 week point post natally I was ready for the gym (walking uphill/light weights/some rowing - nothing too drastic.) In terms of the Shred I think it might be the jumping and the toll on the pelvic floor that would have caused me difficulties initially! I couldn't run until about the 9 week point due to a big baby and a forceps delivery which made everything feel like it was going to fall out when I ran (TMI - sorry!!)

gingercat12 · 25/04/2012 12:55

Jellybelly I started going to the gym when DS was about nearly 3 months old. Trainer asked, "So what is your goal?" Me, still full of relaxin, "I would like to be able to sit up unaided." She was about 18, and thought I was nuts. Never saw her again.

I can see my arms being quite nice-looking, but I still find some exercises quite hard. Like the crab dance or whatever, I can only do on one side. It is a balance issue, I suppose. Also single leg burpees I am too scared of. With both legs, it is amazing how much I improved.

Youvecat I am doing RI30 currently. L3 and L4 definitely have a lot of cardio in it. I can't remember L1 and L2, I just know they were hard, too.

That person complaining about the lewd language in Jillian must be terribly fit. I am always too busy exercising / gasping for breath to hear or see half of what she is saying / doing.

You once mentioned the tabatha app. Can I ask you where you keep your phone while you are doing it? (I am new to smartphones, too.) I have only just discovered my fitness pal. Wow. I do not think I will do the calorie counting.

knottyhair · 25/04/2012 13:15

Youvecat, Ripped is basically the same set up as Shred, as in 3 mins strength, 2 mins cardio, 1 min abs. The main difference is that you do 3 strength moves instead of 2 and the whole workout is about 5 mins longer. Ginger Grin at your goal, but know exactly where you're coming from! Notyummy my DS was also forceps (and ventouse), so I understand that feeling - in fact, I'll definitely never be the same Blush.

festivalwidow · 25/04/2012 17:02

A new(ish)bie here and Oh my good God! Just done L2 of the Shred and every inch of me has turned to rubber bands. I should point out that prior to DD I used to run 8k most days and had an enviable 6-pack I would quite like to get back...
I've been trying to run most days, don't have the unlimited time in the evenings I used to, but managed 5k in 30 minutes yesterday which wasn't too bad (for me). Haven't been running as much as I'd like in the last week since everywhere around here is flooded and I can't run in wellies!
Level 1 felt like it was doing something (DD patted me on the back and said 'It's OK Mummy, it'll be over soon' during the press-ups) but this! Please tell me I'll have any suggestion of a 6-pack back if I stick with it? The chair press thing was agony but I did manage Natalie's version of the plank jacks..

notyummy · 25/04/2012 17:48

festival - generally people find the transition from L1 to L2 harder than from 2 to 3. I think level 2 is tough on the shoulders and core - even if you had been running regularly you may not be particularly strong in these areas (and your core esp not if you have a baby) so it's not surprising you find it hard. Most of us do! Stick with though as it will have an effect.

Did L2 Ripped followed by L2 Killer. Legs are tired!! Forgotten about those crow press-ups in L2 Ripped. Ouch! Had done 5 mile run in a good time last night (about 38 minutes, which is good for me) so legs are going to be stiff tomorrow after 2 days of hard work. Day off tomorrow and more running on Friday think.

threestepsforward · 25/04/2012 20:46

Evening all!

Youvecat welcome back! Paris sounds like a lovely break (was it your anniversary?), glad you had a good time Smile

I think, sorry to say, that Ripped does have more jumping in it than Shred. Definitely give it a go though - it's a good progression from Shred and it eases you in gently - general thoughts are L1 Ripped is not as hard as L3 Shred...

Well done knotty! It's hard getting back into the swing of it after a long break away isn't it?

Greenfig did you do your hoovering with your weights on? Go you! Grin

Hello to everyone else Smile

I've seem to have lost my va-va voom at the mo and it's a real mental tussle to get me up off the sofa and into my JM gear. I managed L2 Shred today after doing nothing yesterday so onwards and upwards.

Looking forward to the Apprentice in a mo

Will check in tomorrow...

I love this thread... just when I feel like skiving I come here and feel guilt tripped into Jillianing and feel so much better for it.

chocolateshoes · 25/04/2012 21:04

hello everyone newcomers and oldtimers alike. Haven't been around for a while as we were away over Easter and since then I have had the mother of all colds and there's no way I can do anything cos I can't breathe. Am aiming for Ripped/ Shred back to back on Saturday -well see. Need to buy swimwear for the summer soon eeeek!

greenfig · 25/04/2012 21:30

Yes chocolate that's in my mind too. I was contemplating a bikini during catching sight of myself favourably during the side crunches (waist emerging & muscle lines I remember having) then was brought crashing back to earth & reality whilst doing cool down & resembled jabba the hutGrin Will be fine on hols so lond as I walk round w arms in air or side crunchingHmm
Cmon 3 steps rousing enthusiasm pompom waves!!

rosalux · 26/04/2012 09:07

RI30 L3D9 done today. Hurrah! Almost there and quite looking forward to L4 next week. Not so bad today, although I won't miss L3, especially the duck walk which I can barely manage on the beginner level. Would really like to try 6W6P but having looked at it again I think it might be too much for my knees. Will have a look at the pilates DVDs I have to see whether a couple of months of concentrating on my core will help before I return to Jillian.

3steps I think DP was aiming for a compliment with the beefy comment (no bovril involved). I definitely have definition in my arms and upper body (can't really see my back so have to rely on DP for that assessment) and more in my legs, though not like when I went spinning 3 times a week back in the day. Still my mummy tummy is my main problem area (always has been even pre-mummy) and I find Jillian's abs work, at least the mat stuff, pretty much defeats me every time. Ho hum.

VenetiaLanyon · 26/04/2012 09:54

Helllo all, reeling from trying Killer L2 this morning for the first time.

Nearly keeled over during the one-legged burpees, and haven't got a suitable chair to stand on, so just lunged about a bit during that one, but otherwise all not too bad.

I have limited co-ordination, and struggled with the superman / burpee combo; anyone else?

knottyhair · 26/04/2012 10:18

Rosalux, I prefer L4 to L3, like I prefer L3 Shred to L2. Good luck with it! Venetia, I find counting each part of the move in that combo helps keep me in time with her - my coordination is awful as well! I think there are 9 separate bits to it??

Having a rest day today - 6W6P L1 tomorrow, Killer L1 on Saturday then 4 circuits of BFBM either Sunday or Monday.

bintofbohemia · 26/04/2012 11:04

Oooh, hello, I was just coming to see if there was a Shred thread and here you all are!

Listen, I need my arse kicking - I bought the Shred dvd over a year ago and although I've occasionally done a couple of days here and there, on Saturday I started doing it in earnest. I say this - but actually up until now I've only done it every other day, as after doing it my thighs have been in so much agony that I've been lowering myself into chairs like my 90 year old grandmother. I wasn't sure if every other day was cheating but I wasn't sure there was any benefit in killing my muscles without a break? Today is the first day I feel like I've broken through and can do it again and I might move up to the next level just so that I don't get bored. It's good though, the three times I've done it are already having visible results on my thighs so will be interesting to see what happens over 30 days.

So, basically, can you please shout at me and make sure I do it every day from now please? Also, what's the ripped dvd, any good?

greenfig · 26/04/2012 11:16

Morning all! Well done rosa how long to the big day venetia?
No exercise to report yet but can't wait to tell you I have a new low weight & new bf% to go with it. Hurrah! Will be my 2nd 30 day measure day tomorrow but I feel I should allow another week due to Easter slacking as I know I'll be unreasonably disappointed yet I KNOW I won't be able to resist measuringGrin
gypsy I totally agree, I feel guilted into it, like I'm being watched with disapproval. I expect you're feeling it too 3stepsGrin

gypsyfloss · 26/04/2012 12:52

Well done greenfig- a result on the scales is such a motivator :) My scales don't change and I never measured when I started but I do notice it with my clothes.

I had big plans to do 6 consecutive days , alternating shred L2 ( my fav) and 6w6p L1 but that hasn't happened this week. I'm just managing alternate days and have stuck to L1 6w6p. I love that I can feel myself getting more stamina but feel that my thighs are not shrinking in quite the same way that the shred makes them. Back to shredding tomorrow perhaps...

threestepsforward · 26/04/2012 13:06

Hello all

Bintofbohemia, I'm feeling far too fragile to shout, but go on, you know you want to! Ripped is similar set-up to Shred - roughly 20 mins and a bit more testing once you get to Levels 3 and 4. Stick with the thread and there will always be someone around to shout at encourage you Smile

Venetia: "so just lunged about a bit during that one" Grin - that sums up so much of my workouts! Especially L2 6W6P! I agree L2 Killer is a real challenge coordination wise - I use the big chest in our sitting room (table height) to balance on the one-legged bits.

Greenfig, boy am I feeling it today! I'd pulled something in my chest/ribs area doing the gardening, it didn't feel very serious at all. By last night, after L2 shred, I was in agony, and am still in agony today, pain actually woke me up in the night Sad. Am on codeine painkillers and fear there will be no Jillian'ing for me for the next few days (I promise that's not just an excuse!!).

Congrats on the weightloss, that's fantastic! And you gypsyfloss with the measurements, yay Smile

Will hopefully be able to get back into it soon, I think I'll need to a few days, hopefully not more.

Have a good afternoon everyone Smile

Happypiglet · 26/04/2012 13:15

That sounds very painful three steps take it easy for a few days.
Well done everyone on weight loss/ inch loss.
I bravely decided to step back up to L3 of Ripped today- haven't done it since before Easter... I think I was a tad ambitious especially on the back of a whole NMTZ yesterday... And I had blanked out forgotten the jumping lunges in circuit three....they are my nemisis so just did normal lunges instead...plus hopping on one leg. Not for me today! I agree Rosalux that the duck walking is more or less impossible backwards!
Anyway just sat down after two hours cleaning as well so may well treat myself to a large chocolate biscuit

notyummy · 26/04/2012 13:25

Hi all. My legs ae surprisingly ok after my Ripped/Killer combo yesterday.

Piglet - neither of 'the girls' do all the jumping lunges either. By the second time (which goes on fooorrreeevvvrrr whilst Jillian shouts at you), they are both reduced to virtually nothing!!

Threesteps - sounds really sore. Hope you are feeling much better soon.

Bint GOANDGETYOUREXERCISESTUFFONRIGHTNOW.. NOW!! What are you you going to give me today? You bought the DVD!?
