Newbie here (to this thread and to fitness generally) - been doing 30ds and after a few weeks sticking on level 1 (held back from level 2 by fear and the realisation that I was unbelievably unfit) I moved to L2 last week. Thinks may have done something to one of my ankles. It has been painful for a few days and is a bit swollen-really hurts if I touch the achilles tendon. My other ankle was suffering at the beginning of L1 but has got gradually better albeit I know its still there from a few twinges. I really really dont want to stop shredding. This is the only form of exercise I have ever enjoyed, stuck to and seen results from but I also dont want to make an injury worse. Any advice anyone? I am tending to shred 4-6 times a week.

bobkate · 24/03/2012 19:45

greenfig and CHST can I ask where you got your DVDs from? Bit confused about dvds on amazon, not sure if I'm meant to get one that's multi region or not blah blah....too technical for me.
Failed today and didn't do my jill fix, however have been slogging in the garden digging out ground elder and old shrubs so feel I had a work out of sorts! What a lovely day it's been though Smile

pigleychez · 24/03/2012 19:48

Fruitshoots- I prefer the 6w6p actually as theres less Cardio stuff. Also its focusing on the bit I want to tone the most (tummy!)

Its abit longer at about 35 mins but you really dont notice it.

bobkate · 24/03/2012 19:48

banana ouch - that sounds painful...I'm no expert but maybe skip the cardio parts for now, like the jumping jacks? Can't imagine your ankle would feel too clever after doing those? However....as I said...no expert so prob wise to wait for some better advice Smile

GetOrfMoiiLand · 24/03/2012 20:32

Hello everyone.

I did L2 ripped yesterday - I really like that workout, and it didn't hurt my back. Did L3 for the first time this morning and some of the exercises in that I juust laughed at and didn't do - the backward squats where you fall backwards on the mat and do a shoulder stand and the pike sit ups for instance. But the rest of it was very good. I laughed when Jillian ranted about something or another and said it 'pissed her off' Grin

What's this body revolution caper?

Sparklyboots · 24/03/2012 20:45

Okay, have just spent some time youtubing JM. She is so hilarious and hardass, I feel a bit faint. Typical quotes, "You're only getting off this treadmill if you DIE!" ; "I don't care about your pathetic stories. They BORE me!" I'm not doing justice to the level of venom and rage she emotes almost constantly. We have to persuade MN towers to get her in for a web rant chat.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 24/03/2012 20:55

sparkly I reread the last page of the thread earlier today, and before I had missed your post about your food issues when you were younger. I am so sorry that you had all that to deal with, you are very brave to work through all that and be conscious enough not to want to pass that on to your own child.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 24/03/2012 21:14

It looks like that Body Revolution DVD is only available to ship in the US. Sad

CHST · 25/03/2012 09:43

Getorf you mean the rock and rolls in level 3? Yeah I thought they were whacky and it does take a while to get used to them/find your balance. My tailbone seems very sensitive to those kind of moves so I just stick a cushion on the floor to pad my ass as I fall! Body revolution is only available in the US right now, yes :(

Happypiglet · 25/03/2012 15:32

Hmmm rock and rolls sound 'interesting'... Shall avoid level three for the mo!
Did level 1 killer today. I like it as I feel every bum muscle aching and less cardio which suits me!
Lovely day again here so having friends over for a BBQ later... Who would have thought that would happen in March! Need to go careful with the crisps tho! As Jillian says in the intro to Ripped (I think) it's easy to eat your way through the exercise!!!!

greenfig · 25/03/2012 18:14

bobkate I got mine on amazon. Not done anything here yet, v late night & early start but hoping to fit in NMTZ a bit n
later if I don't fall asleep!

bobkate · 25/03/2012 19:41

Thanks greenfig, I didn't do anything today either, but more epic gardening so I don't feel too bad.

greenfig · 25/03/2012 19:44

I couldn't manage any exercise when mine were little, family & work was more than enough. If I had time to exercise I was more likely to drink wine or eat flapjack so you're already ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned!

bobkate · 25/03/2012 20:19

Smile thanks! Makes me feel better, but instead of wine and flapjacks it's been a whole bag of mini eggs for me tonight....whoops! Some days work out better than others...when my oldest is at nursery in the morning I usually can do it then, with my youngest watching and trying to join in. I've just ordered ripped, thought I'd give that a go first. Rather excited to get it! Ordered from HMV in the end as I get truly confused by amazon for some reason.

CHST · 25/03/2012 21:30

Bobkate I use amazon too and sometimes play. I got my nmtz from play as it was cheaper than amazon...the prices on amazon seem to really fluctuate. The cheapest I've seen shred is a fiver and the most £30 Confused
I had a rest day today as I haven't had one for a while. I get really antsy on my rest days though and feel like I should be doing something.
I have noticed my eating habits have really changed for the better recently. Of course I still have my off day now and again when I splurge but generally I am eating till I am about half full rather than till I am stuffed, hardly ever snack anymore, am eating less meat and more fruit and veg, less potatoes and pasta and more noodles and couscous, more fish. I eat mostly only 1 slice of bread at lunch now and brown bread and not white. I'm just not wanting to eat crap as much as I used to.

ProfessionalProcrastinator · 25/03/2012 22:21

Hello! New shredder here- been doing level 1 of 30ds and am have just done day 8 BUT after having sweated and worked hard have just felt the need and succumbed to scoffing my face with pretty much anything I could lay my hand on!

Why, why, why did I do that????? Angry

Please enlighten my Jillian experts and tell me there is a reason why I did this and that it probably won't happen again?

orangeplum · 25/03/2012 22:38

Hi - I am new to 30DS and did my first day of the Shred at the beginning of the week. Unfortunately someone came to the doore just before the cool down bit so I didn't finish it properly. Since then my knees and my legs just above and just below my knees have been really stiff. Is this usual? Should i wait for them to recover or just keep going through the pain. I am slightly nervous to do it agian in case I do some damage but am desparate to do something to get fitter. I am rather unfit so it must have been a shock to the knees!!

Thanks

greenfig · 26/03/2012 09:31

Did my new NMTZ last night & am feeling it this morning so I obv have some TZs!! It's sooo nice to have some new routines. Am going to try L2 6w6p today.
W/e damage not so bad as previous weeks but def make 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Scales are showing that although weight is moving slowly, the body fat is going down so you were all right re weight loss!
PP welcome & well done on 8 days! I'm fairly new myself but console myself that scoffing & exercise is at least better than just scoffingGrin I have found as CHST says above I'm not wanting the 'wrong' foods so much, even the alcoholShock!!! It helps me to not allow myself to get too hungry, protein rather than carbs work for me. If I leave it too long I'll be desperate for mountains of bread & cheese!
orangeplum I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough to advise but there are lots of people that will be able to help you. Good luckSmile

VenetiaLanyon · 26/03/2012 10:10

Morning all Smile

L1 Ripped this am, as have a cold and wanted something gentler.

Am declaring myself a cake and wine free zone for the week, to make up for damage done at the weekend; am relying on you lot to remind me, and keep me on the straight and narrow...

GetOrfMoiiLand · 26/03/2012 10:46

Hello everyone

I am also a strict non treat mode this week, as I have to go to a party at the weekend, am wearing a very tight dress and don't want to look bloated.

Am aiming to do NMTZ, Ripped L2 and Ripped L3 this week before I go away on Thursday morning.

greenfig · 26/03/2012 10:48

venetia Wedding dress!Wink
Will join you both, I know I can I'm sure I canGrin

threestepsforward · 26/03/2012 11:09

Hello all Smile
Not been around much, but just wanted to check in.
Orangeplum I'm sure you won't have done yourself a mischief by not doing the Shred cool down as it's very short!
Feeling achingly stiff and difficulty tackling stairs is VERY common in the first days of the Shred Grin. It will usually subside after 3 or so days. Can you tell if the pain is general aching, or a more specific pain/injury? If you do think you've actually injured yourself I'd leave it a few days and see how you feel. But if you think it's just general aching (which is very usual!) I'd push through it if you can Smile

Hey 3steps good to see you back on here. How are you?

Wow the thread has gone crazy of late! Awesome work everyone!

ProfessionalProcrastinator I recommend joining My Fitness Pal if you haven't already... really makes you think before you eat, whether what you're about to stuff your face with is "worth it".

Killer L1 done for the first time today. Enjoyed it, and good to feel the burn on my thighs which are my worst problem area (classic pear, me). Also good to have a break from Ripped L2 which I have been persisting with for the last few weeks despite HATING with a passion that plank-jacks/mountain climbers circuit. Will move on to L3 Ripped later in the week I think.

knottyhair · 26/03/2012 12:51

Hi everyone! Great work going on here, and such a busy thread!

Orangeplum, I'd say the same as threesteps, if it's just general aching and stiffness, it's quite normal but do be careful if you think it might be something more. And I agree with Jackster re: MFP, ProfessionalProcrastinator, it really does make you consider everything you eat & drink, but you do have to make a promise to yourself to be honest.
Did a L2 Ripped this morning - totally agree Jackster about that first cardio circuit. I think you'll like L3, and am glad you enjoyed Killer - that DVD is fast becoming one of my favourites.

rosalux · 26/03/2012 15:00

RI30 L2 D1 done today. Didn't feel so much of a workout because I didn't know what I was doing most of the time! Hopefully after another 2-3 days I'll know the routine and can concentrate on giving all the moves everything I've got. Except the abs work - simply cannot do most sit up/pike type exercises so am going back to the bridges and pilates moves from my postnatal DVD for that one. Just had a sneaky peak at L3 and L4. Oh my oh my! Some of it looked okay and some looked frankly terrifying. Ladies - tell me it's do-able...
