Just thought I'd start a new thread before the old one filled up. Looking forward to seeing everyone on here before too long....

Frankie and Benny's do a chicken salad too which is OK.

ornellaia · 23/05/2012 20:51

Evening all, I started WW on Sunday and have 26lbs to lose, hopefully before I go on holiday with my skinny sister in September - I DO NOT want to be the fat one again!

I'm rubbish at sticking to diets normally (complete lack of will power) but I keep telling myself that I can eat any food I want, I just have to balance the points out by the end of the day. I managed to resist the very tempting cake selection in the cafe yesterday, and have so far managed to avoid eating the DCs chocolate biscuits. My sweet tooth really is my downfall Blush

I have 26 points per day, I'm wondering how other people distribute them? So far I've been having fruit for breakfast and eating more at lunch and dinner time, sticking with fruit for a snack if I'm peckish. Also does anyone use their weekly points regularly and still lose weight? I've noticed a few posts on this thread from people saying they have to eat less than their daily points and not use the weekly ones at all [worried].

ilovesooty · 23/05/2012 20:56

Hi ornellaia

I have 26 points too but a lot more to lose. I have most of my points at lunch and dinner but try to limit myself to 2 slices of wholemeal bread or a roll each day and spend most of the rest on lean protein. I have Oat so Simple and a banana for breakfast as a rule and eat a lot of raw vegetables and no point veg soup. I had my extra points as vodka Grin last week.

Well done for resisting the cakes!

ilovesooty · 23/05/2012 20:57

Oh, and if the desire for sweet stuff hits at night I save enough points for an Options hot choc drink.

KKKKaty · 23/05/2012 21:06

A couple of people have asked how people distribute their points, so here goes mine...

I get 26 points.

Breakfast: between 5 points (e.g. egg, slice toast, 2 x bacon medallions, toms, mushrooms) and 7 points (e.g. 40g of cornflakes, semi-skimmed milk)
Lunch: 4 or 5 points, usually 75g chicken (3 points) plus say 40g avocado (2 points) and loads of salad. Sometimes 120g new potatoes (2 points) plus 2 or 3 points of something else and loads of salad.

Dinner: varies between 7ish points e.g. fish, new potatoes, veg, maybe a sauce, and 12 or 13 points (tacos, home-made pizza, chilli and baked potato)

Treats: 2 x small glasses wine (6 points), 8 galaxy chocolate counters (2 points), a ryvita and marmite (1 point).

This usually adds up to between 26 and 28ish points, so I use a couple of weeklies usually or some activity points. Obviously occasionally I use more, but that is what weeklies are for!

CiderwithBuda · 24/05/2012 17:33

Hello all.

I didn't weigh in this week as was away for a few days at a funeral. Was fairly good points wise. Helped by getting a migraine 3 days in a row!

Back on track now and hoping for a good loss next week.

I spent this afternoon sorting through my wardrobe which was both encouraging and frustrating all at the same time. Encouraging as some clothes that haven't fitted now fit and frustrating as some of them fitted years ago and I am so annoyed that I let myself put so much weight on. Particularly as some clothes I now fit back into were clothes I worked hard to get into in the first place!

And it is annoying how different sizes are from one shop to another! I am still a 22 in Debenhams stuff. A 20 in Evans. 22 in some others. And anything from an 18 to a 22 in M&S!

Sorry some of you are annoyed at the activity points changes. I haven't noticed but I do only count 'proper' activity points. I don't bother with walking around town or to the shops etc as I think that is just normal living really.

Rezolution - sorry you are feeling so fed up. Your leader may be right though as regards WHAT you are eating. WHAT you eat is as import ant as the amount of points. Too many WW bars will hinder rather than help. They are full of fake sugars and are not that good for you. I let myself have one WW product like that a day but no more. Try to eat proper food.

My breakfasts vary. Porridge or muesli with skim milk and blueberries. Or bran flakes with blueberries and yoghurt - although I discovered that bran flakes are quite high in sugar so I don't have them often. Sometimes I have a poached egg on toast. Or I toast two slices of WW malted Danish bread, spread some HP sauce on and add a little WW grated cheese and pop it under the grill.

Lunches are a sandwich if I haven't already had bread. Or a wrap. Or soup with ryvita and cheese. Or roast chicken and salad. Or a picnic of salad, hummus, olives, peppadew peppers with ricotta etc.

Dinner will be usually whatever DH and DS are having if suitable. Tonight we are having meatballs with pasta and a tomato sauce. Last night we had a BBQ - I had a lamb burger and a lamb skewer with lots of salad and half a corn on the cob. One of my favourites now is salmon or cod with lots of stir fried veg with some chilli and lots of garlic and ginger and soy sauce. Yum. We usually have a roast on a Sunday and I add some roast veg to mine and only have one potato.

We have dessert at the weekends. I have been having meringue nests with squishy cream and strawberries. Or a yoghurt. Or a WW strawberry ice cream.

Snacks are fruit or yoghurt or sometimes a crumpet.

Sorry this is such an essay but hope some of it helps!

Are you still doing couch to 5k? How is it going? Where are you up to?

Also I know you swim but you might be better off walking as although swimming is good for you it is not great at fat burning.

Rezolution · 24/05/2012 17:50

Hi Cider, glad you are back. SmileI have got loads of stuff in sizes 18/20/22 and I am taking them in to make them sort of fit. I am size 14-16 now which is quite nice. I got to Week 5 of Couch25k and then had a week off last week because I had a lot of muscle pain in the back of my left leg. Have been to aquarobics twice this week and that seems better for the leg and joints.
I am still sticking to WW diet but have lost my appetite so not eating anywhere near 26 points. Have tried to cut out the sweet snacks too.
DH's birthday today but we are not going out so salad for evening meal [again]
DCs are revnsing for exams next week so the house is a bit dull atm.

Littlefish · 24/05/2012 18:07

Hello all, and welcome to all the newbies.

I've been really crap about posting recently, sorry.

Weigh in is tonight. I lost a pound and a half last week, but think I have either stayed the same, or put on half a pound this week. I'm still a pound and a half above my pre-surgery weight of a month ago, but my head is in a better place now.

I'll report back later.

Rez - just had a quick read of your messages. You definitely need to eat more!

Caffeine withdrawels. Urgh.

lizardqueenie · 24/05/2012 20:36

Hello newbie-ish here & wondered if I could join you?

I started tracking again today, I signed up to WW online ages ago, did it for a bit, stopped, fiddled about with all manner of other diets inc SW, shake diets and just general deprivation and now Ive realised that actually i need to go back onto it and get tracking. It really does work for me, because I don't feel deprived and don't feel like I am on a diet.

So just got a couple of questions if anyone can help? Ive got 41 points a day Blush and 49 weekly. So what happens if I don't eat the weekly points? Does this affect weightloss?

Also does it matter what I spend the points on as long as its within my points? clearly the idea isn't to live on burgers and cola bottles but is it really ok to spend them on what you like.

Thanks :)

Rezolution · 24/05/2012 21:35

Well, originally when I joined they said you could eat what you liked as long as you "point it up".(That means track it) Now it turns out they don't mean that. Apparently I was keeping under the 26 points I am allowed but because I was eating the wrong stuff my weight loss had stalled. In other words you need to keep to the filling and healthy stuff with the sugary treats as well, treats.

lizardqueenie · 24/05/2012 22:39

Thanks rezolution that's helpful. I guess it does make sense. Do you go & weigh in or do it online? In someways I think the group support would help- especially if you've got lots of questions (like me) but then it's not always possible to go every week.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 24/05/2012 22:57

Hi all & especially the new'uns!

Well I am doing fairly well this week although not totally perfect. Was really good the first part of the week, but got carried away with a big bag of nuts yesterday (oops!) and a few other not-so-good things today; but on the other hand, I've done lots of exercise this week so overall it should be not too bad I hope. Did a 42-minute run on Tuesday night, I haven't run in ages due to a foot problem so it was great to find I could do that, I must be getting fitter! Just need to keep it up for 1 more week now till the holiday.

Those who asked about points - I was on 26 points but found this too hard to stick to and that I could bump it up to 29 and still (usually) lose if I stuck to that. I normally use all my weekly and exercise points too - I found if I tried to use much less I ended up getting frustrated and eating more naughty stuff in the end than if I gave myself a bit more leeway!

On a good day, I would do something like this:
Breakfast - golden syrup instant porridge (4 points)
Lunch - something like a thick soup with bread or rolls (around 7 points unless DH makes his lovely bread rolls in which case I eat too many!), or one of my favourite lunch things from M&S if I'm at work (around 8 points)
Afternoon snack with coffee - 2 or 3 points (e.g. a Club or couple of WW cookies)
Dinner - something I can have with the kids, e.g. 2 sausages, lots of veg and bit of mash, or pasta with a bit of chopped salami, tomato sauce jar and plenty of veg. Usually somewhere around 10 points if I'm being good.
Dessert or evening treats - maybe a small glass of wine (3 points), fruit or a WW yogurt, or maybe a little chocolate. (2-3 points perhaps). Total 29ish.

But that's a good day, my not-so-good days can be a lot worse! Don't ever buy Reggae Reggae nuts they are very moreish

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 24/05/2012 22:59

PS I haven't mentioned fruit, I do have it for snacks/dessert (esp when being "good") but forgot to include it as I don't always bother tracking 0-point things. I like bananas as they actually fill me up unlike a lot of other fruit!

Rezolution · 25/05/2012 10:36

Hi Inigo haven't seen you for a while Smile

Rezolution · 25/05/2012 10:37

Lizardqueenie I weigh in on Monday evenings. Have never missed one except the weeks when there is no meeting because of Bank Holidays. Have met someone there who I sit by and we have a natter. Don't know whether it helps much though.

Debs75 · 25/05/2012 17:39

WI tiday and stayed the same. I have had a few sod it days and I dint track as comp was broke. Tis fixed now so back on track I hope. I am also doing a visual diary of everything I eat this week as those on the weight loss shows always day when they see it it looks worse

ornellaia · 25/05/2012 20:56

Thanks for the tips kkkkaty and ilovesooty

I think I'm doing ok so far, I'm sticking to my daily points, I've used a couple of extra weekly points today so that I could have wine with dinner and a chocolate biscuit.

I shall try the options hot chocolates, I've got a WW caramel hot choc which I didn't like much at first but now I'm actually enjoying it for my evening sweet treat.

ilovesooty · 25/05/2012 22:21

Glad you're doing ok ornellaia

I feel pretty pleased today. Went on training where Krispy Kreme donuts and two kinds of cookies were provided and resisted them. Managers sent out for Subway sanwiches for lunch and I opted for a Veggie Delite - 5 points.

It enabled me to have the fresh salmon fillet I'd bought for tea with peas as opposed to free veg. I'm beginning to feel less tired during the day so I think the change in diet must be helping. I can certainly say I'm not hungry and am beginning to identify the difference between genuine hunger and just fancying something.

I'm going for a curry with friends next Tuesday though and did find it a bit dispiriting to realise how many points there are in most of the dishes I like.

ilovesooty · 25/05/2012 22:22

I like the Options Wicked White chocolate best. Truly decadent.

ornellaia · 27/05/2012 08:57

I did my weigh in this morning and I've lost 5lbs. I suspect most of it is sweat, given the lovely weather this week, but still it's very nice to see a smaller number on the scales Grin

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 27/05/2012 09:12

Wow that's fab ornellaia! I am jealous!

I have WI today too and only 1lb off, but am not too unhappy with that - it's the first week I've tracked properly for a while so any loss is good, and also it's AF time which usually makes me heavier so 1lb off despite that is not bad (and hopefully means a bit more loss in the next few days post-AF). Just need to keep plodding on now!

CiderwithBuda · 27/05/2012 10:46

Hi all on this lovely sunny Sunday!

Still plodding along here. Seem to be hovering just above and below the 15 stone mark. Either half over or half under. Very frustrating! I just want to be reliably under 15. So lots of water here and being super good today and tomorrow to get a good result on Tuesday at my weigh in.

Ornellaia - well done! 5 lbs is great.

And well done Inigo too. A pound is a pound!

Rezolution · 27/05/2012 10:57

Hi Cider. Well done Ornellia and Inigo!
I am still sticking to the eating plan. Have done lots of gardening this weekend to burn up a few calories. WI Monday night.

CiderwithBuda · 27/05/2012 13:24

Hi Rez. Are you eating a bit more? Fingers crossed you will get a good result tomorrow.
