Just thought I'd start a new thread before the old one filled up. Looking forward to seeing everyone on here before too long....

OP posts:

Well a pound off this week which gets me to the 2 stone mark! Been slacking off for a few weeks but trying v hard to get back on track. I was 3 stone heavier than I am now by end 2010. Slow and steady wins the race but it is hard. I think small targets are def the way forward. Makes more achievable and realistic and you can give yourself little rewards (new clothes!) when you meet a goal.

Rezolution · 18/05/2012 12:54

Yay ! Eagerbeagle! Well done!

CiderwithBuda · 18/05/2012 16:29

Well done Eagerbeagle!

ilovesooty · 18/05/2012 19:48

Yes, well done!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 20/05/2012 12:17

Well done Eagerbeagle!

Well I am back on the wagon for now, I am hereby committing to 2 weeks' "proper" tracking and making an effort! We are off on holiday after that, so hopefully that will motivate me. Not sure whether it will actually be warm enough for swimwear, but we will be near a beach and there's a heated pool so it's a definite possibility, so the thought of potential bikini-wearing should spur me on...! Please all come and shout at me if I lapse Grin

KKKKaty · 20/05/2012 12:53

Well done Sooty and Eagerbeagle, and good luck Inigo. I too am back on the wagon this week after a week away, in which I put on a pound. I'm actually quite pleased with that - had two or three pub dinners and more than a few pieces of cake whilst I was away, so I was dreading putting on loads. But a pound I can live with, especially as I really enjoyed those pub dinners and cake.

However I have come back home to start tracking again only to find that the WW website has changed - the activity tracker is completely different! They no longer have the three speeds of walking, and now you have to jog for 24!!!! minutes to get 2 measly points, whereas it used to be 11 minutes, and 17 for three!! That's going to completely demotivate me. I can't jog for 24 minutes as I'm unfit, and not being able to track slow toddler-led meandering walks isn't going to help. Grrrr.

Rezolution · 20/05/2012 14:54

Kkkaty Yes I was cross about the Activity thing. They got my swimming and jogging days all mixed up too. I find if I use any activity points I don't lose any weight. In fact if I eat all 26 daily points I don't lose weight full stop.
And if I swim or jog I am so hungry it is just counter-productive.Rant over.
Good luck to all (like me)who are being weighed tomorrow.

hellsbells76 · 20/05/2012 23:34

I don't bother counting activity points at all, just try to stick within my daily/weekly allowance of food. Don't quite get how it works yet - the one week I had a bit of a blowout - 2 meals out plus plenty of wine, and used up all my dailies and all bar 4 of my weeklies - I had my best loss yet. Odd.

Still steadily losing 2ish pounds a week :) mostly off my chest so far though, which could ill afford to lose anything if I'm honest ;(

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 21/05/2012 15:21

Oh I don't like that about the activity points! I used to use them as a motivator to get me to walk the kids to nursery instead of driving and things like that - but now I could be walking for hours but it doesn't count unless it's powerwalking? Sod that!

Did they do some announcement about it (I didn't see any) or did you just find out when you went to track them?

I am hanging in there so far, was fairly good yesterday and (so far) today. I got on the scales this morning though (not official WI, just checking!) and they said I had lost 2 pounds since yesterday Confused I'm sure the effects won't kick in that fast really, so it's probably just a blip or else the scales have measured a bit wrong! Will be nice if it's for real though!

KKKKaty · 21/05/2012 22:13

I know Inigo! There is no category at all that seems to be "walking to the shops and back pushing the pram"!! So may as well drive. And no announcement. I just went to the activity tracker to find that I had apparently put water-skiing and hill walking into my favourites. Which I blatantly haven't. I've had a search on the website and can't find anything official, just disgruntled people on the message boards in the same boat. I'm not pleased as I was really building up my jogging time because I had the motivation to think along the lines of "just a few more minutes and I can get an extra point this time". I know theoretically that just because I'm not earning the same amount of points of course the exercise is still doing me good, but frankly, if I can't earn myself an extra glass of vino I'm soooo much less likely to bother. Sad but true.

KKKKaty · 21/05/2012 22:23

And I've e-mailed them to ask their reasoning for changing it. I will let you know if they let me have a meaningful answer.

PeachyPossum · 22/05/2012 07:02

Morning,

I wondered if I could find a home here? I have joined another thread but its quite quiet and I could really do with some daily motivation!

Its great to read of so many weight losses!

I have lost 12lbs in 4 weeks, but seem to have put a little back on this week Hmm but I have found my P to be a very late or no show so I think it could be water retention - now a week late! Does anyone find the diet messes with aunt flo? I'm finding it very unmotivationing! :( I have about 20lbs left to go (I wonder how much of that I'm carrying in water retention Angry )

Does anyone have any tips for motivation?

Rezolution · 22/05/2012 12:03

KKkaty I agree with you totally. I am very pissed off with WW.
Went to WI last night and had put on 1 and a half pounds! After eating only 23 or even less points per day. Leader looked at my print out of online tracking and said it was because I was eating the "wrong" foods! IE too many weight watchers cereal bars! How can it be wrong if I point it up? Also I was noit getting enough to eat and wasn't I feeling hungry? My reply was "Yes I've been hungry since October when I first joined!"
The activity thing is totally stupid too. I was jogging/swimming three times a week but now I can't be bothered. What's the point? I never eat the activity points anyway. Told leader that next week will be my final week, which is a pity as I have paid for June in advance Sad

hellsbells76 · 22/05/2012 13:59

But surely it's better for you to exercise rather than not, even if it doesn't alter your points? You'll be toning up even if you're not seeing an immediate weight loss, not to mention all the other health benefits. Rezolution, I think it's an idea to look at what you're eating...I can't imagine lots of cereal bars are good for you - have you been sticking to the healthy eating guidelines as well as counting points? You must be getting through quite a lot of bars if you're still only eating 23 points a day - in fact I'd be concerned that with such a low intake and the amount of exercise you do, your body might be going into starvation mode and holding onto your calories. Are you eating enough fruit and veg? It's possible to do WW without feeling hungry all the time...I wouldn't be able to stick to it if I did as I hate being hungry! I find a meal with lots of point-free veg in it keeps me fuller for longer than the treats (do have a weakness for the WW mini cupcakes they had in Poundland last week but after the chocolate rush I was 2 points down and still feeling hungry!) It'd be a shame for you to give up now you've come so far.

Rezolution · 22/05/2012 14:48

hellsbells Yes, you are right it would be a shame but I've only done seven months so far and I am looking at a twenty-year sentence of never being able to eat the things I like ever again. It is the thought of that which is upsetting me. I should have realised sooner I suppose.
It's no good kidding myself that I can have them as "treats" if the result is a pound weight gain each week is it?
I have eaten 4 propoints so far today and did 4 hours gardening/cleaning plus a 50 minutes aquafit session this afternoon. Where am I going wrong?

hellsbells76 · 22/05/2012 15:05

You've only had 4 points on top of all that exercise? Shock Starvation mode like I said. You're not eating anywhere near enough to keep up with the calories you're expending and your body is panicking and conserving what it's got, hence you're not losing weight. I don't understand why you say you'll never be able to eat the things you like? Nothing is forbidden, you just have to watch the points...I'm managing three hearty meals a day (eggs on toast for breakfast, soup for lunch and moussaka or pasta or similar in the evening, even fit in a glass of wine or two and the odd chocolate cake) and I'm still losing. Have you looked at how much fruit/veg you're eating? I keep strawberries and grapes in the fridge for when I'm peckish where previously I'd have shovelled crisps or cheese in. How about looking at the recipes on the WW website? Some of them are really delicious and low in points but do fill you up.

Rezolution · 22/05/2012 15:42

Am eating a lot of fresh pineapple and bananas. To be honest I am so tired of healthy eating I have just lost my appetite for salad and steamed vegetables. Just can't fancy anything on the list of filling and healthy foods.
I don't do recipes as the family don't like them.
Have got a packet of WW breakfast oat cereal and I will have that later on if I am hungry.
I think you are right, my body is in famine mode now and does not want to let go of any weight.

KKKKaty · 22/05/2012 16:05

Rezolution, I agree with HellsBells. You're in starvation mode. I'm not an expert by any means, but perhaps if you up your points a bit you might see a result. But don't up your points with "treats". Go for lean protein and good fats such as avacado, salmon, even some cheese. Another thing you might try, which I heard sometimes works if your weight loss is stalled, is to have a couple of days where you go over your points by some way, then a couple when you go under. This can shake up your metabolism and stops it hanging onto fat because it doesn't realise you're dieting. Or some such. Who knows, but worth a bash?

Rezolution · 22/05/2012 16:57

Thanks KKKaty I think you are both right.I'll try and eat a bit more lean protein but not sugary treats.

ilovesooty · 22/05/2012 21:51

I think a bit more lean protein sounds like a good idea too, Rezolution

It would be a shame to give up.

I've lost 5lbs in my second week - 12lb altogether so far. Obviously it will slow down but I'm pleased. I even got through a staff fuddle today treating myself to one samosa, one onion bhaji, averting my eyes from the cake and filling up on fruit and salad.I had no point veg soup, and a slice of ham, a hard boiled egg and salad for tea. Oh, and I managed a pub session last Sunday including several vodkas and diet coke too. Grin

ValiumQueen · 23/05/2012 10:16

Greetings ladies, I would ask to join, but cannot as pregnant. 18 weeks, and pleased to be pg again, but as I started my weight loss journey 18 weeks ago, it did throw a spanner in the works.

I have been lurking for a while, indeed read all of this thread, and I will continue to lurk as I cannot go to meetings.

DH and I initially joined SW, but with the morning sickness I needed more flexibility, so DH is now doing WW on line, I am eating with him, and trying to support him, but having extra baby points. Only been roughly following the plan for a couple of weeks, and as I have lost weight, I am increasing my points. I am hoping to maintain, but know my body will do what it wants.

I cannot just 'give in' to all my desires for naughty food, as that would not be good for me or baby. I am enjoying writing down what I eat, and making conscious choices, plus having treats, but within limits.

I am really enjoying reading your comments, but would like it even more if people were to consider writing what they eat each day, roughly. i think that would be a good idea for Rezolution for a few days, as I agree with others that you should be eating more.

I will be back proper in November to tackle this fat arse once and for all!

Debs75 · 23/05/2012 14:52

Valium, I lost 57lbs when pregnant with dd2 so if you are overweight now why but try tracking and adopting some be healthy eating techniques now.
Is it ww which won't let you join?

Rez it sounds like too much sugar, fruit and packaged meals often have more sugar than you think in them. Dont give up, get your group leader to help you through this sticky patch, it's what she's there for.

ValiumQueen · 23/05/2012 15:25

WW have a policy of not allowing pregnant members. It is a shame as SW has adapted their plan, and I think it is a good thing for pregnant women to have support to control their weight healthily. debs 57lb is awesome!

poorbuthappy · 23/05/2012 17:10

Afternoon all.
I'm on day 3 of propoints, and have been reading this thread avidly to help get me in the right frame of mind to do this.
I'm doing ok (I think, its only day 3!!), hoping the not drinking in the week will help to get rid of the weight!

But, I am going to Frankie and Benny's on Saturday lunchtime and need some information on what is high/low in points. But I can only find the information where someone asks about a specific meal - I would like to see the menu in propoints so I can make a decision.
I have seen that 40 calories is approx 1pp, but then loads of stuff on the menu doesn't seem to conform to this.
Can anyone help?
ta Smile

hellsbells76 · 23/05/2012 18:33

Have something off the Lighter Choices menu, I usually have the spaghetti oceana which works out to roughly 8 points and it's delicious :)
