Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Morning all and hi stephrick

How's your DS, Faz?

Today will be hard for me as we're going to a wedding. Will have to hope the meal is reasonably healthy and try to limit my alcohol. Should be fun though!

putyourhatonsweetie · 11/02/2012 09:39

oooh hope the wedding is lovely mrspp, Can you dance of the food?

Hope all okay faz

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 12:18

where are you putyourhaton? Its about 15 below here and the local river is almost completely frozen over Sad --> me blue with cold

And I'm the same as you - any benefits from skiing are outweighed by the wine, cake, and butter heavy Alpine food. I'll be treating myself, and I've allowed for putting a couple of pounds back on in my diet schedule, but I'm going to try not to go overboard.

Maybe cake every other day and limit the wine

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 14:07

Hi all, weighed in yesterday and lost 3 and half pounds this wk, yay! Tho had a bad couple of days! Went to a wedding yesterday and ate to much buffet and drank too much and this morning had chocolate for breakfast, oops, but it tasted sooo good!
Met a man, couple of wks ago, well an ex I used to date when I was 19 and a size 8! Now I'm size 16 and need to lose it quick! There will be no overnight stays until I do!

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 14:10

Wow well done Flojo!!

He'll think you're gorgeous whatever size you are and if he doesn't he's a knob Grin

SparkySparrow · 11/02/2012 14:44

Well done Flojo ! Keep it up! Use your new man as extra motivation! :)

Feel a bit better today, although I am being a moody cow because its my time of the month, dh is getting the worst! I personally think I have good reason due to sore throat, stomach pains, and a headache.
He is currently in bed because he's a lazy sod tired! He didn't get up till 10! Hmm Angry

Have had so far today a ham/cheese sandwich, some orange juice and a hot chocolate with marshmallows. Hot chocolate was for medicinal purpose's, worked wonders for my throat Wink .

Hope you have a good day mrspp and dance off any extra calories!

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 15:02

I'm using myfitnesspal app now and its keeping me on the straight and narrow a little bit more because I'm anal and I like seeing the little numbers all in tidy lists

I've had Special K with fat free yoghurt, tuna salad and low fat choc pud (am now addicted to them) and am about to have plainish pasta in an hour or so.

Hot choc for medicinal purposes doesn't have any calories in Sparky Smile

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 15:06

Hope you're feeling better soon sparky
Umm can't decide if I'm hungry, feeling quite nauseous after one to many vodkas last night, food might help. Comfort food that isn't full of carbs?

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 15:12

you can eat carbs!! (will keep repeating this until people listen!)

I would have pasta and tomato sauce or soup, noodles or maybe scrambled egg and beans.

SparkySparrow · 11/02/2012 15:16

I'd go for a healthy fry up Flojo !
Scrambled eggs, grilled bacon (fat chopped off) , grilled sausage, loads of grilled tomatoes, mushrooms , and some baked beans! Mmmm yum! :)

SparkySparrow · 11/02/2012 15:18

That should be called a 'grill up' really Hmm

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 15:20

mmmmm really hungry now i've read all that. I do eat carbs, but i think I'm going out for a meal later and didnt want to use all my ww points up before i've even gone out! Think I'll go for the eggs, n do an omelette with a bit of ham thrown in (no bacon in!)

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 15:22

Theres lots of zero points soups in WW but soup just doesnt seem right without a crusty roll or 3! to go with it!

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 15:30

Reason i said 'think I'm going for meal' cos last wk i took said new guy to MEN arena to see Snow patrol, cost me over £100 so I've suggested not so subtly that he plans something this wkend, and all i get is texts saying hes busy at wk, and trying to pass it over to me. Do i book us a table somewhere nice and expect him to pay? or do i leave it and end up in someone dodgey pub with half a lager n a packet of crisps?!

SparkySparrow · 11/02/2012 15:34

Try Ryvita instead Flojo . Not quite the same as bread but a good substitute! And low in points!

Flojo1979 · 11/02/2012 22:31

Didn't go out after all, said he'd rather go out with his mates and we'll do something mid week :S

putyourhatonsweetie · 11/02/2012 23:50

Morning all,

Weigh in alert 1.1 kg gone this week so now 7.1kg overall. I am so excited, can't remember the last time I weighed this. Grin unfortunately when I did there were far fewer lumps and bumps

well done flojo

cup I'm in the middle of nowhere in central queensland, it is gorgeous, but I feel a bit like I've been hot forever so a bit wistful/jealous about your skiing!

hope everyone else is foing well and lots of luck for the Monday weigh ins.

Flojo1979 · 12/02/2012 10:30

Morning putyourhaton, or should I say evening by now! Fantastic weight loss, well done u!

Fairenuff · 12/02/2012 10:54

Morning and well done Flojo and putyourhaton those are some great losses. Makes it all worthwhile doesn't it Smile.

Flojo I really hate it when I meet someone who last knew me slim. I always wonder if they're thinking 'blimey, she's put on a lot of weight'! I feel like I'm in the elephant in the room (in both senses) Grin.

Hope he gets back to you soon and arranges something nice. What about Tuesday? It is valentines day after all.

Sparky I hope you feel better soon. I love your healthy 'grill' up. I would probably leave out the sausages though but I love grilled tomatoes.

Fazsaeed how are you getting on. How is your ds? Is he back home with you now, or still in hospital. Hope everythings ok with you both x

mrspepperpotty · 12/02/2012 15:02

Well done putyourhaton, that's brilliant.

Exciting to hear about your new man Flojo, love a bit of romance!

The wedding was a lot of fun, but a disaster on the diet front! I ate and drank loads, then had a huge breakfast in the hotel this morning! Will have to be very very good before my Wed weigh in.

Flojo1979 · 12/02/2012 15:51

I hope so Fairenuff but I'm saying nothing and he's a bloke so probably hasn't a clue it valentines despite hearts n flowers everywhere u go!
That's the trouble isn't it mrsPP but at least you'll try to cut back rest of wk. Before the diet I'd eat like and think I've messed it up so might as well mess up rest of wk..month...yr.
I've been a bit rubbish today, bit bored as stuck in with poorly whingey 3 yr old, too close to the kitchen!

Hathall · 12/02/2012 20:51

I'm having a bit of a disaster at the moment. I think I've got some medical issue and the stress has made me turn to food - as usual.
I'm off to drs tomorrow so will be back when I've sorted myself out. Hopefully won't be major but possibly have an ovarian cyst?

Will join back here when I can.

CupOfBrownJoy · 12/02/2012 20:57

Hope it goes ok Hathall, good luck.

I'm back in target range as from today - yayyy Grin !!!

TalkinPeace2 · 12/02/2012 21:31

(((Hat)))
Even if you have medical issues, te fitter and lighter you can be, the better your medical outcomes will be.
Be strong.

Stick to those food diaries - they work

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 21:34

Hope your ok Hathall !

Well done Cup :)
