Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

lisad123 · 08/02/2012 23:26

I don't feel lighter but feel loads better

Hathall · 09/02/2012 09:20

Well done Lisa

I need to up my efforts. I weighed myself today and have only lost 5lbs since the beginning of January.
I'd love to lose another 5lbs by the end of the month.

NewYearsRevolution · 09/02/2012 09:23

Hathall - I've lost about 7 pounds in the same period if you convert it. I think, for me, slow and steady is the best idea. Both because being fairly relaxed with myself should allow me to keep up the eating habits permanently (I know if I was ultra strict I would lapse back as soon as I hit target, or yo yo constantly by half a stone) and because I'm still breastfeeding so meant to go slow.

I put on a pair of trousers today that were too tight on the waistband last time I wore them. Today they are comfortably loose. Yeay!

mrspepperpotty · 09/02/2012 12:28

Well done Lisa and nannipigg.

Chooster, if you are sticking to about 1200 calories a day then I'm sure you'll see a loss next week - that's really good!

Hathall, I've lost 5lb since the beginning of Jan and I'm happy with that. Agree with NYR that slow and steady loss is the way to go. My long term plan is to lose 2 stone by the end of June (ie 1lb per week) so I'm on track for that.

fazsaeed · 09/02/2012 18:15

I agree too. Slow and steady. If i go too strict I just end bingeing but if you generally be healthy not too much crap you should see a difference

Hope everyone good and doing well

CupOfBrownJoy · 09/02/2012 18:50

Well done everyone, lots of positive thoughts going on on this thread at the moment!

I've had the munchies all day but I've just about managed not to snack. I've only got another 3 pounds to go but it's bloody painstaking at the moment!

I've got a mega busy week next week then I'm going on holiday, so the thought of undoing all my good work is keeping me on the straight and narrow at the moment

putyourhatonsweetie · 09/02/2012 19:43

well done lisa and nannipig, and fazsaeed, you sound like you are well back in the zone, good for you.

Fairenuff · 09/02/2012 19:55

Well done MrsPP that's a great loss Smile. And lisa, wow, you must really be noticing a difference now?

Chooster, good to hear from you again. How about tryng to wean the children off the high sugar 'treats' and get them into healthy eating too?

CupOfBrownJoy · 10/02/2012 08:44

Help needed over here - I can feel my motivation slipping away.... I've not actually been naughty yet but my mindset is slowly changing towards "you're nearly there, you've done so well, you deserve a treat, sod it you can live without losing any more"..... I don't know how much longer I can hold out!!!

I've got too many temptations coming up, over the weekend (DP runs a restaurant and I'll be there all weekend), going out Monday and Tuesday evening (although having sushi on Tuesday), then holiday for a week on Friday.

Help!

putyourhatonsweetie · 10/02/2012 09:50

'Gosh Cup you look SO slim, what's your secret? and such beautiful skin, you always look so healthy' Wink did that help?!

where are you going on holiday?

CupOfBrownJoy · 10/02/2012 14:06
Grin

I'm going skiing next Friday - can't wait!!

fazsaeed · 10/02/2012 18:25

Tomorrow defo breakfast :) should be better
How's everyone doing?

stephrick · 10/02/2012 18:30

I hover between 11 and 12 stone, skinny in the morning fat at bedtime, can't give up the carbs. help! getting older 44 so slowing down. will never wear a bikini again.

SparkySparrow · 10/02/2012 18:52

Hi all,
faz I hope your ds is ok!

Not great over here, got the start of a virus I think. :( Had a sore throat and headache all day, think ds may have it to. Not eaten all day but dh has made posh pie and roasted veg for dinner so will try and eat some of that even though I really don't fancy it.

Well done all the losers! and Cup Stick with it! Your so close!

Hi stephrick :)

TalkinPeace2 · 10/02/2012 19:45

steph - how tall are you ? and have NO worries about bikinis - the Spanish don't - and with fake tan, everything looks slimmer.

Faz - that does not sound good. how old is DS? has it happened before?
have yourself a BIG high protein, low carb, low fat supper so that you sleep well.

Sparky - hope you've had plenty to drink - milk is excellent and if you are poorly the nutrients are important

Me : not lost any - but not put any on either. Abs hurt after my usual manic morning at the gym. Half term slob out beckons!

stephrick · 10/02/2012 20:01

5ft 7, weighed 9 st 4 for a florida holiday 8 years ago

Fairenuff · 10/02/2012 20:20

Hi stephrick and welcome Smile

Fazsaeed I hope your ds gets better soon. It must have been frightening for you both x

TP half term is usually my downfall. I stick to the diet for six weeks then undo all my efforts over half term holidays. Not this time. I am determined to push on through.

Tonight was tough. I've had quite a stressful day. I have not eaten a single biscuit, or piece of cake or chocolate, or even cheese and not had any alcohol for five weeks now. I really felt like kicking back with some wine and nibbles this evening but will resist.

Stay strong this weekend girls! We can do this. We will lose weight! Smile

stephrick · 10/02/2012 20:27

just won't eat tomorrow, date night, regular Weds and Sats, very slim on sunday. same man I might add.

stephrick · 10/02/2012 20:28

well able to cover muffin top, waist slim boobs great. haha

CupOfBrownJoy · 10/02/2012 21:45

Welcome steph, you don't need to give up carbs to diet - when I diet I live on rice and pasta.

I've just caved and had a couple of glasses of wine and a bit of bread BUT I've been mega good all week

Faz I hope your DS is ok - that sounds scary Sad

Fairenuff · 10/02/2012 22:43

steph what do you mean 'just won't eat tomorrow'?

Also, more info required please re date night Grin. Is this a new boyfriend?

I do love a good romance Grin.

Cup surely you will burn loads of calories skiing? I've never been but I hear it's quite energetic!

SparkySparrow · 10/02/2012 23:07

Ooo I agree.....more details on the date night! Grin

putyourhatonsweetie · 10/02/2012 23:52

welcome stephrick, you'll get loads of support on here for healthy weightloss, but none of us do no eating! can't imagine going more than a few hours without a bit of a trough

Cup oooh skiing, how lovely (Am a bit jealous) haven't been since having the dc. All my calorie burn on the slopes has always been knackered by cheese, gluwein and apres ski, but on the bright side nobody looks thin in sallopettes (sp?).

still roasting here, storms making NO difference, more salad for me
