Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Flojo1979 · 06/02/2012 20:56

Hi losers!
Thanx for the advice, I made sure i drank water in-between and I piled my plate with salad and just had a tablespoon size of different things I fancied. But to be honest I drunk too much (dont get out much!) And threw it all up by midnight. I wonder if you get WW points back for being sick?!

TalkinPeace2 · 06/02/2012 22:17

LOL @ Flojo
well I have identified what I have to do. Simplez. Drink less on a Friday night. Then I might actually get to my target!

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 10:08

Mac makeup and undies :)
He'll behappy when he sees me next lol

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 11:04

Got some new scales, jumped on them - just to check they work - they put me at 4lbs heavier than yesterday Shock , what do I do? Can't take them back as stupid me thrown all packaging away, plus I think I would get a few Hmm looks if I said that they made me heavier. Do I start from that weight :( ? or carry on and knock 4lbs off whatever it tells me? If it had said a lb them maybe but 4 Confused even me on a bad day couldn't put 4lb on in a night!
Stupid scales!

Dh told me last night that I had lost weight in my face :D and believe me, any compliment about my weight coming from him is about as rare as it gets, but at least I know he means it :) .

faz Enjoy your undies Wink

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 11:05

Wow I loved the smileys in that post! Grin

mrspepperpotty · 07/02/2012 12:09

Oh Sparky that's so annoying! I think it's quite common to have a bit of a discrepancy between 2 sets of scales, but why couldn't it have been in the other direction?! My DH weighs himself in the gym, he says there's a big difference between the 2 sets of scales there, and you'd think they'd be accurate at a gym wouldn't you?

Sorry but I think you should stick with this new weight - you'll probably have these scales for a long time, so you can't keep subtracting 4lb forever! You can legitimately increase your starting weight by 4lb though, so it doesn't take anything away from the amount you have already lost.

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 12:09

Can't wait to see oh now Wink
Well done to everyone whose been good. I need a bit of a kick up the bum I think. Fell of the wagon after the parties but when I eat crap I can't eat last meal

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 13:37

I think your right mrspp unfortunately
I know that it doesn't change the weight I've lost but it means that my new starting weight was over 13st Shock. And in my head I feel that I'm not getting anywhere :(

I have learned though not to keep the scales in high places! Mind you i feel like throwing these ones out the window!

TalkinPeace2 · 07/02/2012 14:53

Another approach other than the scales .....
tape measure.
measure around you neck, your waist (across the belly button) and around your knees.
Write down that number (in centimetres)
next week lets have a measure in - because its not just about what you weigh but about how you look
and tape measures are cheaper than scales !!!

Faz - be strong. I've realised I have to massively cut down on my weekend drinking if I am going to hit target. NOT looking forward to it.

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 14:54

You know you've not put weight in so don't stress :)

Wink
TalkinPeace2 · 07/02/2012 15:00

true - but I've not lost ANY for the last two weeks ....

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 15:55

TP I'm like that with bread, its what I realised last week. I eat bread then I don't lose. Its always the things that we love!

I might try the tape measure for a few weeks as well. It will be good to know I look slimmer!

My aim for the next 2 weeks - get that stupid 4lbs off!

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 16:09

Right ladies the light bulb has finally switched on.
I've pulled my finger out and done lil bits of exercise in the past 40 mins. I'm proud of myself but it gives me realllyy bad lower back ache. I've got bad kidneys too ( one is too big other too small) I just hope it doesn't aggravate them.

Anyone used 6 second abs?

TalkinPeace2 · 07/02/2012 16:19

the back ache is because of your weight - be careful
can you get to a yoga or pilates class ?

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 16:32

Well done faz!
I know it sounds boring, but have you tried walking? If your not used to doing to much exercise then its a great starter for building up fitness.
The three days a week that ds goes to nursery, we walk down (25mins) at his pace, then I walk home the long way as fast as I can (35 mins) . I also walk fast to go and pick him up. While your walking hold you stomach muscles in and your doing you abs too.
If you can get walking into your everyday routine then it doesn't feel like a chore - you just do it.
Even just a 15 minute power walk round the block is good!
Have you had advice from your doctor about exercise with your kidneys? Might be worth having a chat just to make sure that your not going to do yourself any damage. Same with your back!

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 16:33

Nope. No one to have ds.
I'm only starting slow at this exercise.
Dr has said the nurse can give me a tablet to help lose weight..
Might take him up on that offer

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 16:45

Take ds with you! Push him in the buggy or take him up the park and run around like lunatics! He will love it! And so will you!

Do you really want to go down the tablet taking route when all you need is a bit of will power and support?

They may help you get the weight off but what happens when you stop taking them? Your weight will just pile back on, probably more so! Tablets have lots of side effects and are addictive! Lose your weight slowly and it will stay off there are no quick fixes!

Have you tried joining a slimming group? WW or Slimming world? They can give you support, you will make new friends and you will have something to stick to!

fazsaeed · 07/02/2012 17:03

I need motivation. I know once I'm thin the only time I'll be big again will be with pregnancy.
I might do it slowly now and then after the next pregnancy ( hopefully within the year) then tablets

TalkinPeace2 · 07/02/2012 17:07

PLEASE avoid tablets. Diet pills are just amphetamines after all.
Exercise. Walk, walk and walk some more. Put on music and dance around the room with DS till he is tired. The more you exercise, the less hungry you will feel.

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 17:17

If you do it sensibly and the weight comes off why would you need tablets?
They give people heart problems/ fertility problems, a friends friend had them and she had bowel trouble. She couldn't hold it (leaked) and it was bright orange.
Do not aim for the tablets! That way you will never loose weight because you will be thinking 'its alright the tablets will get it off!' .
Sensible eating and a healthy attitude is what will help you loose weight.

TP is right. They are another form of amphetamines! Bloody things should be banned!

Do it properly and give you kid/s a healthy attitude towards food!

SparkySparrow · 07/02/2012 17:19

Plus if you loose weight, it will help you conceive! Another reason!

Sorry for going on but I feel quite strongly about stuff like this! I would give anyone the same advice!
