January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

I also meant to say thanks to GeekMum for starting this thread. Any extra bit of motivation and support is a huge help so Thanks to you.

HalleLoujaandhappynewyear · 05/01/2012 14:58

Week 2 day 1 complete. 5th run horrid and it was really rainy and windy but I did it. I want the rain and wind to go now!

HalleLoujaandhappynewyear · 05/01/2012 15:00

Geek I love spreadsheets too. Total saddo that i am.

happynewRia · 05/01/2012 16:42

wow this thread moves fast.
hopefully I have downloaded week 1 from the NHS site, and will give it a go later, even if only power walking.

parttimedomesticgoddess · 05/01/2012 17:05

Just checking in to say that I did my second session of week 1 this morning. Actually wanted to do it too Grin. Will be doing 3rd session of week 1 either on Saturday afternoon or Sunday (most likely Saturday as doing it on Sunday ruins any chance of a PJ day!)
Haven't had the time to read the whole thread as happynewRia is right, it's moving really fast, but well done to all who've managed to do anything so far x

RebeccaMumsnet · 05/01/2012 17:37

I have just finished work, off to get changed and then out for W1R3.
it's cold and dark and i don't wanna

If I don't post again tonight - let Justine know where I was Wink

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 17:46

"wow this thread moves fast"

Yes and hopefully in a few weeks so will we! Wink

AphraBehn · 05/01/2012 18:06

W1R2 done, if you can call it running! Although on run 1 I could only manage 1 and a half runs and today I managed 3 and a half Grin.

Saw loads of people I knew as well, won't be going out at that time of day again.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/01/2012 18:20

That's good AphraBehn!

Just back from W1R2 and feeling warm but good, got a stitch in the 7th running bit though which I didn't last time :(. My doggy was better but it's much further than she's used to and was still further than my new route so had to add a detour which only left me a 2 min warm down. Rethink before Saturday.

delilahbelle · 05/01/2012 18:31

Just done W2R2 - hard work but easier than the first time. Very glad my next run on Saturday will be in the daylight though, I hate it when it's cold and dark.

Ruined any calorie loss by having cheese toasties for tea - ah well.

cocoachannel · 05/01/2012 18:39

Week 2 run 2 done!

Thanks for the stats geekmum. 88 of us! That's fantastic! I too love a spreadsheet.

Well done everyone.

Pan and MABS, hope your DCs are feeling okay.

RebeccaMumsnet · 05/01/2012 18:42

Back, done.
My calf is aching. I am stretching after each run, is everyone or do you just do the warm down?

What's week 2 like?
Next run will be Sunday, W2R1!

Good luck everyone

HalleLoujaandhappynewyear · 05/01/2012 19:26

Week 2 is fine. She says still sore from this morning.

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 19:51

I DID IT! W1R3!!!!!! All 8 minutes of running - unbelievable! And I am not ashamed to admit that it was the thought of being able to report back to you lot - all 93 of you - that kept me going through the last two runs Thanks for supporting me.

I had tears in my eyes when I finished the last run, can't tell you what it means to me. Blush Bring on week !

Well done everyone here, we've all done so well already by starting, let's keep going Grin

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 19:51

Sorry that should say BRING ON WEEK 2!

Vajazzler · 05/01/2012 20:08

W1R3 done! I bought some new exercise trousers in that shiny material. Big mistake! They kept falling down while i was running!!!

Hope i didnt give anyone and eyeful!

Those are some impressive stats there Geekmum

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 20:36

Vajazzler were you showing off your vajazzling work? Blush Wink I have had past experience of trekkies falling down, you have my sympathy!

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 05/01/2012 20:43

Hurray for Geekmum's W1R3 Smile Smile

My sciencegeek DH is impressed with the idea of a spreadsheet (he says there's nothing wrong with a bit of spreadsheety goodness) Grin

Haziedoll · 05/01/2012 20:44

Well I ordered my running trainers with a Gift card that I had for Xmas but apparently according to dh I may as well have chucked the money down the drain because I don't have time to run. Dh wishes he had my life because it's so fucking simple.

I don't know why I'm posting this online. Feel like running to the other side of the planet. Arsehole. Angry

Stylelostinlabour · 05/01/2012 20:53

Boss hiss plans ruined to run tonight as had to go fix a fence - I goin to put all stuff out tonight and go enforce Dh goes to work and the kids will probably still be asleep when I get back but at least it's then done and I start Week 2 Saturday morning. Grrr feel really stressed now I haven't been

MetalSian · 05/01/2012 21:08

I have just done W1R2.
Went to my parents so I could do it earlier as they looked after DS, was still at 7.15 though.
I 'enjoyed' it more today because I wore a hat and didn;t get a headache fomr the wind in my ears.
And it is much better at my parents.
It is in the middle of no where so I didn't see anyone and there is a small triangle I can run around, 3 times was perfect and it isn't really hilly unlike last time.

Oh AND I ran all of it! Yay ;P. I didn't want to but I couldn't go back to my family and say I didn't do all of it.

Well done everyone else who has run tonight.
We all seem to be doing really well.

cocoachannel · 05/01/2012 21:26

Hazel Sad are you okay?

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 21:39

Hazie it's half an hour, how can he say you don't have time? And I don't know much about your life but I'm certain it can't be simple! I am Angry on your behalf. Are you ok?

ScienceGeekMum · 05/01/2012 21:41

Well done Metalsian! The pressure from having rellies judging you is sometimes a good thing Wink

Woodlands · 05/01/2012 21:44

Hazie that makes no sense - surely if your life was so simple you would have time to run? Sounds like he is being an arse. is he always like that?

I did W1R2 this evening in the dark, pounding the streets as it's after park closing time. Seemed easier this time. I used to be so fit, I went to the gym all the time - shame how it goes, but hopefully it will come back.
