January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

Run 2 done this morning! Felt amazing running at 10am past houses with curtains still shut! Had a few nods from cyclists and dog walkers too. Felt quite proud of myself!

Thederkin & pan, I found the second run harder too, glad it wasn't just me. Legs were really heavy and could feel some muscles protesting a bit. Feel ok tonight though, pretty smug actually :)

fatcaaah · 01/01/2012 17:48

Mrsdv! I was relying on you to keep me going as we started on the same day!

You've let me down, you've let yourself down.

(did that help get you motivated for tomorrow?! If I skive, please, any of you, shout at me)

Haziedoll · 01/01/2012 17:58

I can't start running until I get a sports bra and trainers. Going to order some from NEXT directory tomorrow.

I'm going to feel very self conscious when I start so need to be in the right gear. Norks hitting me in the eyes and wedged boots is not a good look for running!

cocoachannel · 01/01/2012 18:07

Damn. Meant to start today but I have a raging hangover I am very busy doing important New Year's Day stuff...

TOMORROW! Watch out SW12 puffed out, sweaty, red faced Cocoa is about to hit the streets!

cocoachannel · 01/01/2012 18:10

Anyone giving themselves rewards? I'm thinking of treating myself to a facial or something if I do fifteen runs in January.

Stylelostinlabour · 01/01/2012 18:45

Yes me I'm going for a reward chart - 5 gold stars equals a nice treat such as facial, pedicure or message, lucky that best buddy is in beautify and does mates rates...

But I figure this will give me the motivation to carry on

And if I complete all at the end of january then a nice new pair of trainers

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 01/01/2012 18:53

O M G fatcaah you have well told me off though Blush

I WILL do it tomorrow! I will I will!
Did you do yours today?

Panadbois · 01/01/2012 19:43

DP and PILs have gone home now and a good time was had by all. I've eaten loads, including Jelly Fluff, and really enjoyed it all cos now I can justify it.

(I can tell you what jelly fluff is, but at your own risk. Once tried, you'll want it every Sunday)

I'm feeling absolutly shattered now, shoulders aching, legs aching etc. But you know what? That's all right, cos I feel a part of a sisterhood, I want to do this, and I want us all to succeed. Smile

((( stamps feet, will not be known as a moaner))))

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 01/01/2012 19:47

I'm doing my second run tomorrow early. I've got stickers and everything so that when I've done the first four week's worth of running (and put the stickers on the calendar) I get to buy myself a book.

I'm also doing weight watchers (again - my ww leader will bloody love it when I show up again - I am her cash cow) - last time I did that I bought myself a book per half stone and will be doing that again this time. So I'm hoping to have lots of lovely books soon Smile.

MrsDV I reckon you'll have to do it tomorrow now!

fatcaaah · 01/01/2012 20:04

Hee hee hee mrsdv Grin

I scared myself a bit there.

I did go this morning and felt very smug. Though it was much harder than the first, but this evening I feel better than after the first iyswim

Good luck tomorrow Smile

goingtobefree · 01/01/2012 20:14

Hey.. Did my first run.
Feeling great. Hoping to do another run tomorrow. I had a couch25k app on an android phone- according to this my total run was 18 mins (is this normal?).
Does anyone know of good android app...

Panadbois · 01/01/2012 20:21

goingtobefree · 01/01/2012 20:38

Wow Really inspiring.

Haziedoll · 01/01/2012 20:39

An inspiring story and the best band in the world. I've come over all emotional. Blush

NewYeargeekmum · 01/01/2012 20:46

Is it just me that shed a tear?

Hope I can get that far in a year's time!

Thanks for the link

NewYeargeekmum · 01/01/2012 20:48

Well done Fatcaaah and Goingto for your runs today!

NewYeargeekmum · 01/01/2012 20:49

Hazie you have my permission to not start until you have a sports bra! But you MUST order one ASAP!

NewYeargeekmum · 01/01/2012 20:50

Pan Sisters are doing it for ourselves!

Jelly fluff... I am intrigued...

Stylelostinlabour · 01/01/2012 21:01

Oh dear I read "belly" fluff?!?

Panadbois · 01/01/2012 21:04

I had tears too.

I'm not telling you about jelly fluff, you wouldn't thank me for it Grin

OneLieIn · 01/01/2012 21:15

Right run 2 tomorrow first thing. Behave I say I am achy and knackered, hopefully tomorrow I will feel up for it.

Week 1, run 2 here I come

pandabois amazing link. I am inspired. If I want to do it, all I have to do is do it

As for rewards, I was thinking a reward every week for completing the week, but only if I stay away from the sweeties and bread at the same time. A pair of boots in town has got my name on them!

Geez, my legs ache

NewYeargeekmum · 01/01/2012 21:22

I'm going to get a reward for every bmi point I drop... A small reward every point and a larger reward every five points. A whole new wardrobe if I get down to 25 so that's to motivate me for the summer!

The in between rewards will be books, running equipment, new shoes... Grin

bishboschone · 01/01/2012 21:28

I did my first run tonight ... I also bought a cross trainer so I have a treadmill and cross trainer in my garage . I really have no excuse to lose my baby weight now!!
