January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

I have music! Should I go out today? Am feeling very lazy...

Santageekmum · 31/12/2011 12:10

Open go go go!

100 feel fine apart from dizziness, am wondering if I'm still anaemic. Haven't been tested since 9 weeks after birth but was still anaemic then. Need to get stuck into the spinach and steaks!

Right I will! Eek!

turningitaround · 31/12/2011 12:21

Yay for Santageekmum (and everyone else who's already done run 1)!
Can't wait to start too, but delayed by really, really nasty stomache infection.
(have got my new running tracksuit on though - so am with you in spirit)

100years · 31/12/2011 12:22

Mmm gingerbread cookie cereal Grin

Good luck lugholes.

Santa. A doctor friend if mine said spinach was rubbish for iron the iron in it is mot absorbed and it actually affects the absorption of iron from other sources.

100years · 31/12/2011 12:22

Get well soon turning.

NewYeargeekmum · 31/12/2011 12:36

Changed my nn, here's to a new year, a new me Smile

Turning get well soon, we need you pacing the streets Grin

100 thanks for tip on spinach, shame because I love it! I know caffeine can affect absorption too so will cut down on the Brew

Panadbois · 31/12/2011 12:49

Good news! I'm not in pain today after my first "run" yesterday! I'm so gl;ad, cos I was worried that it would put me off going out tommorrow. Only thin is now I don't have an excuse not to do the ironing this afternoon.

Well done to everyone, thanks Newyeargeek for inspiring us all!

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 13:18

Haven't gone yet... am downloading some more tunes to my iphone now that I have worked out how to do it!

And dh has just made me a bacon toastie... will go out once that is a little digested!

turning, hope you are feeling better really soon.

Well done panadbois!

How often are you all planning to run each week?

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 13:19

iphone? ipod!

Panadbois · 31/12/2011 13:22

Three times a week. But I'm thinking about joining a zumba class on a Tuesday evening, and would love to go back to a yoga class. At least running is free ( well now that I've spent on the gear......)

cocoachannel · 31/12/2011 13:43

Congratulations to everyone who has completed their first run!

Mine will be tomorrow evening. I've started this before and given up so am really glad this thread exists. 'm still a bit concerned about how I'll fit it in around full time work and baby DD but as we're all in simialr boats that'll be a huge help.

Spending my 'last fat day' eating up the Christmas chocs and watching Downton Abbey (I'm two years behind the rest of the country!).

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 13:43

Three times a week was what I was planning.

Love zumba but trying to save money atm!

OneLieIn · 31/12/2011 14:59

I don't know either how I will fit it in. But this is for me and me alone. I have to do this NOW before I am too old and knackered to ever do this. Tbh, I have used my kids and dh and work as an excuse for too long.

I will fit it in and when I can't, I will come here and get a kick up the arse Wink

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 31/12/2011 15:30

Just downloaded week one podcast! I hope I can find time to do it, would love to get fit and lose a bit more weight.
Good luck everyone :)

Stylelostinlabour · 31/12/2011 15:37

Right I need a kick up the bum - too scared to go out and actually do it a what's wrong with me...

OK I will tomorrow morning when I wake up before all the drunken new year people are about...

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 15:42

Style, I'm exactly the same! Chickening out now and decided to get up really early, when everyone else is in bed.

Besides, feeling really, really sick and bloated after lunch Sad

Tomorrow morning it is then? Pact?

NewYeargeekmum · 31/12/2011 15:52

My boot is ready for arse kicking if you need encouragement! Grin

NewYeargeekmum · 31/12/2011 15:53

By the way no one laughed or pointed at me!

Aseaandthreestars · 31/12/2011 15:55

Style - what are you scared of? Tell us the fears and we'll help you (make you go anyway). You're going to have to do a first run at some point.

If you go this afternoon then your running will span two years!

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 15:57

I have decided I am definitely going out first thing in the morning. Have laid my clothes and ipod out in preparation.

Would have gone out now, since it is getting dark... but I honestly have a very dodgy stomach Sad Really, really hoping I haven't picked up the sickness bug that is doing the rounds atm.

Aseaandthreestars · 31/12/2011 15:59

Sorry to hear about stomach unpleasantness. Are you keeping food down?

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 16:03

Thanks asea. Keeping food down at the moment, but don't know for how much longer tbh. So bloated and uncomfortable Sad

Aseaandthreestars · 31/12/2011 16:13

Do what you normally do for stomach issues and don't worry about tomorrow. If you're well you'll go, no stress.

NewYeargeekmum · 31/12/2011 16:13

Open hope you feel better soon
