So, here we have our nice new little thread. No food type is banned from being mentioned. It is Xmas afterall Xmas Wink. So pull up a comfy chair, I've put a good film on the telly for you, put some logs on the fire and laid out some snacks. We have stollen, mince pies, chocs, shortbread, smelly cheese and crackers, wine and baileys.

Feel free to add anything else!

This thread will self destruct later in the new year, so don't worry about confessing to eating naughty nibbles, or putting on the odd pound (or 8).

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Xmas Grin

Aaargh! Can I jump on here?
I was doing quite well at exercising and eating reasonably well, not too many snacks and then CHRISTMAS!
On top of that I have had an on-off dodgy tum so can't be bothered to cook or think about food much, so of course I am eating a load of rubbish instead of normal food. Polished off a box of Thorntons over the past two days and started on a one of those Christmas gift pack things today.
Loads of chocs and cake at work for the past three days.
Help!
How are you guys managing the food glut? It's so hard isn't it!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/12/2011 23:47

welcome rowingboat. I mostly avoid it by not buying it, as I can't eat it if it's not here! And I don't currently work, so no goodies to avoid there (although I have been managing to decline the biscuits and cakes at toddler groups).

RiaInExcelsisDeo · 22/12/2011 23:55

food shop done. and I made my first ever yule log (not a chocolate one - I've done that before when Dsis was doing her o-levels and it was part of o-level cookery)
bathroom and associated mould scrubbed and bleached to within an inch of my life. After that and fighting against DS2 and 3 with the trolley all the way round the supermarket, I am knackered.
General tidying tomorrow, going to my uncle's to visit his "grotto" (though it will be santa-less as his friend told him FC looked like a dead body and laughed a lot, so he has removed him to the shed). Just a few more presents to wrap, and we should be done. DS1 and I are playing in the shopping arcade with the 2 brass bands we are in on 24th. 4 hours of christmas carols and jungle bells!
Am embracing cider this evening as part of our yule celebrations. I was meant to be mulling it, but didn't get that far. As a non-cider drinker (not even as a teenager in the bus shelter!) it's surprising palatable.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 23/12/2011 13:06

Stuck in traffic on our travels to thr Gower.
So far I've had a skinny latte and a choc twist, plus wine gums! We've got the Christmas songs though and Dd is sleeping so it could be worse.

Most importantly I've got my husband back as he has been away in work all week. Smile I've been staying at mums while he has worked nights!

2 sleeps to go, I'm getting excited

grinningbee · 23/12/2011 14:36

Howdy do all!

Welcome rowingboat. Um, I think you'll find that at the moment, most of us are not avoiding the naughty food. But we have been very good all year Xmas Grin.

Ria yay for the yule log, cider and mould scrubbing.

Cheese hope the traffic gets moving for you soon.

I've just eaten two slices of white bread with marg and marmite on. You know, it wasn't as nice as I'd hoped. But the flapjack that followed it with a hot cuppa was a different story!

Life is turning into an episode of a bad soap here. Maniac man who was warned by the police last weekend has apparently arranged for a group of men to "sort out" dh. Permanently too if I am to believe what I was told. I had to ask him last night if he thinks the dc and I are safe. He doesn't think they'd hurt us. Lord love a duck. I'm hoping that dh has reported it today, and also that it's all mouth and no trousers type talk. I've had enough to be honest!

Oh for a simple life.

Hi rowing boat. I've been very norty but come the 3rd Jan, I'm back on it!

Inlaws are doing my nut. I need a drink but nothing forthcoming yet. T'is the season to be jolly...

bee that's awful. Hope all is ok

rowingboat · 23/12/2011 20:15

Hi all,
Cheese it is the season to be norty really isn't it! Grin
Bee that sounds awful. I don't know the background, but I hope it can be resolved soon. What kind of bread did you have with the marmite, was it a crusty loaf or a sliced loaf?
I keep looking for those marmite ricecakes, I think it is Kallo, but no shops seem to stock them. I did see Branston rice cakes, but that actually sounds quite yucky to me!

Been out walking around for ages, so just an exercise bike pedal and I might start to feel a bit better after the Thornton's incident. Xmas Blush

SlinkyBells · 23/12/2011 21:08

Welcome rowingboat! We are usually pretty good at eating healthily and exercising...but we're relaxing a little over Xmas! Nice to have you on board, are you doing Slimming World?

I've had a shitty couple of days. Have a stinker of a cold, accidently locked my car keys in the car with ds trapped inside yesterday, and everything just seems to be going wrong!! My sis and bil travelled over from South Wales today to check the electrics on the house we're buying, but the EA ballsed up and we were sat outside waiting for an hour for the vendor to return home and let us in. Grrr Xmas Angry. Anyway, nothing as awful or scary as what you're going through bee ((hugs)).

You been offered any wine at the in-laws yet cheese?! Hope they don't bore you to death, glad you got dh back and are looking forward to Christmas Day Xmas Smile. Must say my dp has been pretty darn fabby lately, don't know what I'd do without him.

RiaInExcelsisDeo · 23/12/2011 21:41

my DH has been pretty unlike himself helpful and cheery too! He's been scrubbing the kitchen today.

bee. Shall we sharpen our pitchforks and go round to sort out this bloke for you - he might think he has toh mates, but you have a gang of MN-ers at your disposal!? Seriously though, can you report it yourself if DH hasn't? Or can you get away to family for a few days? Hope it's all sorted out soon. Take care.

grinningbee · 24/12/2011 17:23

Hi all,

pitchforks etc sound like a good plan to me!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Xmas Eve Xmas Smile Just eaten some stollen, and I've decorated my first ever Xmas cake. Pictures to follow on facebook later. I may cry when it's cut, but I'm looking forward to tasting it!

If I don't get the chance to say so in the morning, Merry Christmas everyone!

hi bee. looking forward to photos. Have not made a cake this year, but I have the components for a quickie Delia cake if I can be bothered

Boys just watching Mr Bean. (DS1 sulking in his room as I bollocked him for punching the kitchen wall in a teenage paddySad)

Am seriously knackered after 3.5 hours of brass band-ing (plus the hassle of getting lost, DS1 being a teenager, having to park in town etc etc) and then the last minute present/food shopping I decided to indulge in. All a bad idea after staying up til 2am wraping and watching the christmas folk music concert that was on TV last night.

A massive merry christmas to all of you guys, hope you have a very happy day where-ever you are. x

Merry Christmas lovelies! Xmas Grin

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/12/2011 00:06

Was just going to say Merry Christmas, but it's over, so I'll wish you all a happy boxing day instead! Hope you all had a great day yesterday.

I used goose fat on the potatoes (from our 3 bird roast which was fantastic!) and had stuffing (although I did make it with ww brown danish!) and a stack of home made bread and butter plus a 4 syn pudding at tea time. No chocs or alcohol. Hopefully that's not too horrendous, and I didn't feel like I was dieting at all today!

I am quite ill with an ear infection sadly, which is the reason I have had no alcohol, as didn't want to mix it with co-codamol.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/12/2011 00:39

Oh and sausages. How could I forget that I had those!

grinningbee · 26/12/2011 11:24

CSWS Xmas Sad Hope you feel better soon. You're quite prone to those aren't you? (if I remember correctly, anyway).

I'm being very bad. Just eaten mince pies for breakfast, and picked at a slice of Xmas cake. Off out now for a little walk in Stamford, but the day won't get any less naughty! Ah well. Next week it's back to lentil pie and hobbit bread Xmas Grin

Have a great Boxing Day everyone Xmas Smile.

Get better csws

What did everyone get for Christmas then? I was spoilt rotten, got a beautiful bracelet and posh lingere from DH. He also bought me some croc boots which I don't like so they will be returned.
Completely overage yesterday and have a hangover today! Quiet day today, will have nice ham and salad laters.

Dh loved the QI board game, it was great fun.

Have a good day everyone!

SlinkyBells · 26/12/2011 14:48

Get well soon csws - ear infections are miserable.

How's the kindle then bee? Have you started reading anything on it yet?

I had a lovely Christmas Day, although ds wouldn't have his afternoon nap yesterday at PIL's (well, he had five mins in MIL's arms eventually) so he was pooped last night bless him! Today, we get Dss, so we have 'Christmas' Day all over again with him Xmas Smile. Always back round the PIL's with dp's family, but didn't want the baby missing his nap again, so I've come on home to the delicious peace and quiet for an hour or so Xmas Grin. Step-son (12yo) almost didn't make it as he's been up since 5am vomiting ... eek! He does look very pale, and instead of playing with the kids after lunch, decided to go upstairs for a nap bless him. Hope he gets better soon and doesn't infect the rest of us. We're all meant to be heading to Wales tomorrow to see my family, so could do without d&v.

I was also spoilt; dp bought me a new electric toothbrush, a funky warm hat...and a relaxing spa day for two! S'pose I ought to take him then Xmas Grin. We're going to go after we've moved, will need some pampering then!

grinningbee · 26/12/2011 16:04

Afternoon!

I got the Kindle from dh, and a couple of bits from Lush from the dc Xmas Smile. Just downloaded a couple of free books so far (it's so quick!) but not had any chance for reading. I am rather pleased that you can sort of go on the internet with it, so I can at least look at MN if the computer goes bang! Still need to work out how to sort the books into some sort of order. I'll get there.

Can't work out if it'll replace all my real books yet though... tis a very nice present mind you.

Just made a huge pan of mashed potato for tea later, along with cold meat and pickle etc. Looks good on paper, until you know that I made the mash with butter and whole milk Xmas Wink.

We're going to end up giving some of our naughty food away I think as we have far too much. It'd be very easy to go past the beginning of the year and carry on being bad for another fortnight otherwise.

OP posts:
rowingboat · 27/12/2011 13:47

HI everyone,
It sounds as if you all had nice Crimby's! We spent Christmas day at DP's folks' and Boxing at my folks'. Not much in the way of presents, we have a rule where we mainly buy presents for the children and a token gift for each other, so lots of slippers and gloves and boxes of chocs.

Cheese which Croc boots did you get, that you didn't like? I'm quite curious because my mum has ordered me Croc wellies, but they still hadn't arrived by Christmas day so I don't know if they will fit my wide feet. I also have a high arch and instep so basically have to wear men's working boots or boxes. Grin

Bee thank you for the welcome! Smile I just had Christmas cake for lunch - it's not that bad is it?! Shock

Slinky I hope your DSS is feeling better now and nobody has succumbed to the tummy bug! I'm not doing Slimming world, in fact no diet plan really, just exercise and not too many cakes - which obviously isn't the plan for Christmas!

Can'tsleep I hope your ear is getting better. Cider vinegar or any vinegar is good for ear drops. I have a dodgy ear and use a cotton bud to drip in a mix of cider vinegar and some olive oil (and some salad!) when it gets a bit achey.

So, over the festive period, have eaten my bodyweight in Christmas pudding and chocolates, it's got to stop soon!! Today we are re-introducing fruit to our diet so have had a satsuma, and apple and a pear so far, plus a huge slice of Christmas cake for lunch - it's nearly finished now, thank goodness! Grin

grinningbee · 28/12/2011 10:12

Rowingboat eating your own weight in festive food is the law.... I thought anyway Xmas Grin

Morning all!!

Today is the Dod that isn't... if you know what I mean. I'm going to fess up today to make next week look less bad.

I've gained (don't faint with shock at the back). And somehow I've put on a staggering 6.5lb. Ah well. And last night we ate pork pie, smelly cheese (mmmm gorgonzola) and other naughty things.

So, the stats for the day from me are:

Grinningbee has larded on 6.5lb, start weight 15st 11.5, current weight 11st 10lb, weight loss so far 4st 1.5lb

I fully expect more of a gain next week, but it's ok.

-------------

Depressing alert - do not read if you don't want to.

Today I shall be eating chocolate and stuff, because I have discovered I am a niave (sp?) gullible doormat with mug stamped on her forehead. Yep, I uncovered another lie. I've spent the morning so far crying buckets and being a snot monster (thank goodness for muslins). H asked me if I wanted to leave... I said it wouldn't be me leaving. Anyway, he's apologised (yet again) so we'll see if anything changes. Last chance saloon.

End of depressing stuff

--------------

So, I hope you are all having a lovely day and gaining less lard than me!

Catch you all later,
Bee
