Well done shark, I'm probably around 10.7 now- must get weighed. Well done on exercise and enjoy your meal - Thai is my absolute fave.
I've just entered triathlon today - in 8 weeks. Eek. I WILL be 10 stone or less by then. Positive mental attitude fjorn xx no exercise tonight or tomorrow -dh away and no childcare. :(((

SharkBite · 22/02/2012 17:32

Hurrah for the triathlon Digbert, I have only done an indoor one. Wuss!

If you can't get childcare I can honestly recommend The Shred. It is excellent for all over body toning.

onanightlikethis · 22/02/2012 17:35

I'm not good at motivating self in front of DVD. maybe I'll look into it. Is it hard?

SharkBite · 22/02/2012 17:40

Well it has a warm up, 20 mins of exercise and a warm down so over pretty quickly! I too am fairly rubbish, but i am able to do this one as it gives good results quickly. The premis is 3 circuits of 3 mins strength, 2 mins cardio and 1 minute abs.

You can get it for about a fiver on Amazon, so won't break the bank if you hate it!

SharkBite · 22/02/2012 17:42

Oh, and it is as hard as you make it - I add weights onto the cardio bit on Level 1. Level 2 and 3 are pretty hard anyway.

SharkBite · 22/02/2012 18:54

I reckon i have 900 cals left for this evening and i will walk the (nearly) mile there, so may not be too bad.....

onanightlikethis · 22/02/2012 20:50

Have fun shark. Wine open here but all in cals so allowed!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 22/02/2012 21:39

Wow, 900 calories

Do you all eat your exercise calories? I'm really paranoid about mine. I use Nutracheck alongside MFP (didn't realise there were free online food diaries, and I'm paid up on NC until April, but MFP splits the nutritional info* which I find really fascinating) and it doesn't automatically award you the exercise calories. I hate seeing red when I go over the 1400 calories, even when I've earned it with exercise.

4 miles on treadmill today, so done 3 out of my 4 exersazzes. Next session on Friday.

*I dabbled with reducing carbohydrates as people are so evangelical about it on these boards, but have decided it's bunkum and I shall carry on eating my complex carbohydrates. I feel good when I eat them, have energy to do my exercise, and fail to see how restricting something as wholesome and natural as fruit can possibly be right. I've done a tiny bit of reading about these low carb/high fat/protein diets, and it seems to me that they can cause health problems such as kidney probs. I remember the BBC diet trials back in 2003 put famous diets against each other for 6 months. The Rosemary Conley and Atkins subjects loss 5 stone each, but the Atkins guy lost a stone of muscle (ouch!), while the Rosemary subject didn't lose a single pound of muscle. I don't know...I am intrigued to read more about the subject though, because I'm amazed at how much dieting advice seems to have changed in the last few years. I thought I knew all about it Confused. What are you guys' thoughts?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 23/02/2012 13:45

9st 5.4lb this morning! Shock I've been stuck at 9.10/9.9 for weeks.

I thought I had got slimmer even though the scales weren't shifting..must have been water retention or something. I'm going to start going by how I look/feel as to how much more I lose, rather than a magical number on the scale.
V happy today Smile

SharkBite · 23/02/2012 17:19

Well done MyChild, that is an impressive loss Smile. I am very Envy as i have never seen any number start with a 9 on the scales Hmm. How tall are you BTW?

Last night was a complete disaster (probably why ^ that comment is true) Blush. I stood and ate nuts and bombay mix like it was going out of fashion Hmm. The rest of the food was ok, but immediately i have a glass of wine i can hoover up any nibbles in the vicinity. We never really have any at home for this reason, but if they are under my nose i just can't resist.

So, anyhoo, back on it again today. 2.5k uphill walk on the treadmill (slightly delicate so no running Grin), 1hr pilates and then this afternoon walked to school to collect the girls so 2.5 miles also added.

Re exercise calories, FF (usually) adds them on and shows you the excess in green (although sometimes red for no apparent reason Hmm). I would say i generally usually use about 75% of them, but always eat my 1200 base.

onanightlikethis · 23/02/2012 19:15

Well done my child!!!! You must be thrilled. Someone asked me today if I'd lost weight - it must be showing! No exercise tonight, wanted to run in the lovely sunshine today but was at work. By the time I got in it was dark. :(
Off to gym tomorrow for PT and run. May run outside if it's as lovely as today.
Oh shark, don't worry about the Bombay mix. I'm the same with wine and food.
I never use my extra cals from exercise. :)

onanightlikethis · 23/02/2012 19:17

Oh low carb- I try to steer clear of bad carbs like White bread and pasta, but eat fruit. Try not to eat carbs after lunch. All in moderation I say.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 23/02/2012 22:21

Shark I've never tried bombay mix before...what does it taste like? Don't beat yourself up about it. I'm the same once I've had a bottle glass of wine...and the next day too. I have given up alcohol for Lent so that should hopefully give my healthy eating plan a bit of a boost!

I'm 177cm (5ft 9.5), so tall, and at the lower end of the BMI scale. 9 stone is absolute lowest I would be allowed to go to and I just want to get to this so I have a bit of wriggle room when I start maintaining. I'm small boned and have maintained around this for years .... I just had an extremely crazy year last year and everything went to pot!

Dig Re carbohydrates: I never eat white bread...I just don't like it, but I do eat wholemeal bread, potatoes, porridge, breakfast cereals and rice. I eat carbohydrates with every meal. I'm talking one slice of bread or a small jacket potato. I also eat white pasta, but have just recently tried wholewheat pasta and the kids didn't seem to notice, so we'll be having that more often. I've tried switching to sweet potatoes, but I've got to be in the mood because I'm not really a 'sweet' person, and they don't go with baked beans very well Confused. Luckily, I'm not into chocolate, biscuits, crisps, cakes, etc.

You've really caught the fitness bug, and you seem so focussed both food and exercise-wise...a real inspiration. Remind me how long you've have you been dieting/exercising for, and how much have you've lost. What does your username mean btw?

onanightlikethis · 24/02/2012 06:57

My child, became more focused in January. I have been a member of virgin gym for about 3 years. I go in fits and starts with it but this is the most focussed I have been for ages. Usually I go to classes, spinning or body attack mainly but just wasn't shifting any weight of getting much fitter. Mid January I decided to go for PT sessions- the best thing ever. I'm so much more motivated, I am losing weight as i am careful about what I eat(thinking that if I'm paying £35 per week for PT I need to put some effort in) and am enjoying doing strength training. I am 5ft1 so am still way too heavy at 10.6. I am fairly big boned/ strong so I'll never be a tiny 7-8 stone thing. I want to get to about 9.4 if I can. Running has made a difference too- some days I havnt got time to go to the gym so a quick run keeps me reaching for the wine. Especially working nearly full time and having the 2 kids.
I've lost about 6-9 lbs since Jan. (no scales here)
I'm a bit all or nothing so when I do something I do it in a big way! The triathlon is in may so that will keep me focussed.
Re carbs- I'm not a huge fan at the best of times. Will have porridge for breakfast but never been one for potatoes or rice. Love bread though, especially fresh crusty stuff... I can't even have it in the house at the moment or I'd be scoffing it all.
Nickname doesn't have a meaning- It was the first thing that popped into my head when filling out the registration!! Maybe I'd just read a kids book with that character name in... :))) no prizes for guessing your meaning!
So you have about half a stone to go? Is that right? 9 stone... Sighs...
Right there goes my peace and quiet, can hear stirrings from upstairs. Have a good day everyone, I'm looking forward to PT at 11. Mind you my arms ar still very sore from Tuesday........xx

onanightlikethis · 24/02/2012 06:58

Sorry about the essay!

SharkBite · 24/02/2012 08:18

-0.75 fir the week to 10.6.75. I have finally broken the 10.7 for weigh in day. Not too bad given 1 crap weekend day and weds night.

Off to circuits and then taking dd2 swimming this morning, will be back to read later.

Fjorny -are you swimming this morning? How are you getting on?

FjorGynAndHotWater · 24/02/2012 08:42

mychild you've never tried Bombay mix???? Shock It is sooooo yummy, rather spicy and v v v calorific. My favourite bits are the noodles and lentils. Our corner shop sells fabulous bombay mix

Well done on your big loss too! You are 9 7 centimetres taller than me and already a stone lower than my alleged target Shock You must look gorgeous Smile

digbertyou sound so motivated [impressed] hope you ease up enough to enjoy your PT session today!

shark yay for being under 10 7 on a Friday Grin

I am evens today but should be grateful I suppose as cheated loads this week. And I need a poo Blush Still 11-something so am chuffed with that but have only lost 1.5lb in the last 4 weeks compared to 9.25lb in the first 4. I blame shark because the decline started at her house Wink So am going to be good and try not to let the weekend scupper next week. Will have to ask DH to lock the biscuit tin...

FjorGynAndHotWater · 24/02/2012 09:07

There are fruity pastries on the next row of desks I have cottage cheese to look forward to...

SharkBite · 24/02/2012 14:37

Oh yes Bombay Mix is food of the devil delicious Grin

MyChild, you sound like a willowy goddess! Well done on your loss. But please don't go too low

Digbert - I'm a VA member too, and that is where i did my triathlon last year - are yours running one this year or is it an externl one?
I can't believe you are not eating your exercise calories though Shock. I guess you are really on a VLC diet on that basis, so please don't do it for too long Grin

Fjorn, right, what can i you for? Oh yes, blaming me for scuppering your weight loss Wink. Hope you swerved the fruity pastries ok.

2k run, 1hr very hard circuits, 10 mins powerplate and swimming with DD2. Unfortunately I have really hurt my back (i think doing situps with a kettlebell) . I am hoping it is something which will click back in later today, although i fear unlikely Sad.

Mussels for tea with white bread to dip in the sauce. Om nom.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 24/02/2012 14:53

LOL Fjor hope you managed to keep away from the pastries! Was it at least nice cottage cheese, like Longley's farm? Wink Do you know what, I do feel pretty damn gorgeous at the moment! I'm listening to Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' and 'Change Your Life In Seven Days' twice a day, and it's really made me change how I see myself. I'd definitely recommend them.

Sharky 0.75lb is an excellent loss. I would certainly be happy with that if I'd had a couple of relaxed days. And congratulations on getting below the 10.7 barrier! Sometimes that psychological boost can get things moving again.

Dig Having a PT sounds fab! Is it a hot guy like Jessie Pavelka? Wink I s'pose even a hot girl would be excellent inspiration! Grin I agree with you that running is excellent. It improves your CV fitness and thins your thighs faster than anything I know. So we've both got events in May (mine's a 10K). We can motivate each other. What does the triathlon comprise of, and what made you enter it? Is it your first? Do you have a time targets in mind?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 24/02/2012 14:54

PS 5km run at gym. (I was there before work! Shock) Will do abs, bum, arms etc at home tonight after kiddies in bed.

onanightlikethis · 24/02/2012 15:05

We're all on it today!! Just back from gym- 45 mins spin bike, sweat was rolling off me- then PT. Hard today she targetted all my weak areas(abs)then 800 m swim- 32 lengths.
Shark which VA are u at? The triathlon is external. I've never done one before but thought it's a goal to aim for. I'm compemplating a10k too.
The tri is only 400m swim, 20k bike, 5k run.
Om nom indeed for mussels shark.
my child- I just want to finish the damn thing! But the best news is..... I got weighed at the gym. I'm 5 weeks into my fitness pal and exercise and I am now 10.5!!!!!!! that's 10lbs off in 5 weeks.
shark, I'm going to start eating those exercise cals when I hit 9.11 which is just in my healthy weight range.
The PT makes me do stuff I never would on my own. Well done everyone!! Here's to a fab weekend. Dig x

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 24/02/2012 15:12

Hmm, I notice you didn't answer my question of whether he's hot or not!Hmm

onanightlikethis · 24/02/2012 16:19

Ha ha it's a she!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 24/02/2012 16:48

Oh, well at least you can stay focused! Grin
