drywhite, thats great to hear that a little wine doesn't derail this all!

And well done to you for getting to consolidation - I can't imagine that at the moment!

I used one tub of cottage cheese, 300g.

wentworth, I am so glad you started this thread, as I would never have heard of this diet without it. Hope you have a great time on holiday!

drywhiteplease · 12/05/2012 20:18

Just remember studying I am on consolidation. On attack I abstained Sad on cruise I had a glass once or twice a week. Now I only drink when I go out on a weekend....mid week g and t if desperate ( better than wine)

Coroico97 · 13/05/2012 08:56

Hi everyone! studying how was the wedding?? Please let us know. And, as we are all on diets, we want to know what delicious things you ate and drank!

Jan2011 how are you getting on? I have a couple of great recipes to share if anyone is interested. One for sweet spiced muffins and one for a salmon/chicken dish. You may need to get a few bits for them but it's worth it.

Spiced Muffins
2 tblspns wheat bran
4 tblspns oat bran
6 tblspns skimmed milk powder (although I have made these twice without this as I didn't have any and they were fine)
3 egg whites (worth buying carton of egg whites in supermarket/health food shop)
1 egg
1Muller lite yoghurt, such as vanilla or strawb
2 tblspns Splenda or similar
1 tsp baking powder
Half tsp mixed spice

Bung it all in a bowl and mix it up.
Spoon into paper muffin cases, so mixture goes about half way up case, which should be in a bun/fairy cake tin. This mixture, without milk powder (?!) will make about 7 biggish muffins. Cook at 190c for about 20 mins or until risen, brown and firm. Eat warm with a big dollop of vanilla yogurt.

Good for eating your oat ran, or for a quick snack. Feels quite substantial when you are really hungry.
.
Will post other recipe when I can dint it later!

jan2011 · 13/05/2012 08:58

hi guys

studying physics sounds difficult - good luck with it! i will be going back to study in september a bit nervous about how im going to manage with a 10month old.

its encouraging to hear how you are all getting on. i find i am not as hungry and am more mentally stable eating this way lol like less moody!

but i haven't been following it to the book. i have been having some veg etc. i have very low energy as it is, and underactive thyroid so i think if i was to cut carbs any lower i would feel awful! i hope it can still work for me - i feel ive made a lot of changes as it it. last night we went out for dinner and i had salmon and green veg and decaf coffee for dessert (had a slurp of dhs irish coffee!)

i am really feeling the carb slump. i think this is day 3 or 4 i can't remember. im exhausted so i hope it picks up soon! haven't weighed myself yet - don't think its helpful to be jumping on the scales all the time!

how was the wedding studying?

studyingstudying · 14/05/2012 00:11

Hey drywhite, don't worry - I'm remembering! Alcohol isn't really my downfall anyway, only having it at weddings or similar. Its more sugar/chocolate that is my problem...

Coroico, the wedding was fantastic thanks - really good fun. It was a very elegant afternoon tea after the church service with lots of yummy tiny sandwiches, scones, traybakes, cake etc. And two types of tea!! Amazing.
Then lots of champagne and cake with the speeches/toasts. And a raucous ceilidh afterwards. Fantastic.

But the cheating unfortunately continued throughout today...I was staying at a friend's house (for the wedding) and they had plans for a bit brunch and then afternoon tea out. Oh dear!

So tomorrow is a new day, and I am back on the plan! Does anyone have any experience of how to get back on track?? Do I need to do the whole attack phase again? or can I just do two days of PP before going back to PP and PV? Or what should I do?? Help, please :)

Thanks for the muffin recipe!

Jan, you will be fine with studying, honestly. I love it, but feel like after so many years and I probably ready to leave. I feel the same way you do with regards to feeling less hungry and more stable - I definitely feel like I've had fewer migraines. Before I would trigger one if I missed a meal/hadn't eaten in too long but that hasn't been happening to me recently. Its great! Keep going through the carb slump! Do you need to give up caffeine? I couldn't get through this without my cups of tea...

jan2011 · 14/05/2012 16:21

studying im glad you had a good time at the wedding, and its a one off so i hope you enjoyed the cheats you had - im sure you will be doing fine as long as you are low carbing again, im sure others will have more suggestions as to how to make sure you are on the right track, but i think a lot of it is the mentality - just because u had a few treats doesn't mean you are back to living that way - thats all it was, a few treats on a special day and now you are back to your 'normal' eating routine.

im going back to study after 6 years off. im sure you can't wait to finish.

i probably do need to give up coffee and tea - i mostly drink decaf now, but i really couldn't do without it either! today i feel much better than i did yesterday and the day before so i hope this is the beginning of my body getting used to it all.

this morning i was out i went to a cafe and there was nothing low carb and i was starving. so i got a coffee - and got cream with it! it was really nice i never get cream - i know its not dukan but i was getting confused between all the different diets and opinions and i thought it would fill me up till i could get some protein a few hours later and it did. then i got an egg salad.

hows everyone else doing?

drywhiteplease · 14/05/2012 16:33

Wow studying I made the tuna muffins. They are great ! The easiest breakfast ever and because they are pretty solid I was full all morning!!!!

studyingstudying · 15/05/2012 19:05

Hi everyone, hope you're all still getting on well.

Jan, coffee with cream sounds great :) I don't think cream is very dukan-y, but I love skimmed lattes as they are quite protein heavy/fill me up for a bit. You're right, perfect for when you're out and about in coffee shops.

Drywhite, I'm glad you liked the muffins - I think they're great! But not my recipe - someone mentioned them upthread. I only detailed the quantities I used. Must make another batch soon! THey do make a nice change to galettes.

I am back on track but not feeling great...I think I need to power through the carb slump again. Boo. Hopefully it'll be a bit shorter this time. I'm looking forward to getting out the other side, as I was feeling great last week on my PP and PV days. Cheating (even planned cheating) may not be worth it...VERY special occasions only I think.

Does anyone know if mini babybel light is dukan friendly? I'm limiting them to one a day at the moment, but they're good (handy) to have around if you're peckish and need something immediately.

jan2011 · 16/05/2012 18:24

how have you been getting on studying, you back in your stride again?

the tuna muffins sound great will have to try them. had eggs and salad for lunch, tuna and salad for dinner. the great thing about this woe is not feeling as hungry.

sorry don't know about the babybel but im sure one a day can't do much harm

anyone who knows about ketosis - if your body is in ketosis and if you eat some carbs does that mean it comes straight out of it? and also, do you have to go through the painful carb slump again to get back to ketosis? this would explain why people feel so awful when they cheat i guess.

hope ur all doing well. still not weighed myself, but less bloat and feeling much better.

BrightnessFalls · 17/05/2012 12:24

Im starting tomorrow. Again. I will be at work for 12 hours, I have a packet of salmon, greek yoghurt, 2 litres of water, half a dozen eggs, can anyone think of anything that will see me through the day?

studyingstudying · 17/05/2012 14:49

Hi Jan, yes I'm back on track. So far anyway! I am back to the weight I was pre-wedding (thank goodness - my weight kept going up even once I'd started back onto the PP days and I was getting worried), so now I just need to keep at the cruise phase for a bit. I am enjoying the PV days now though - feel great!

Brightness falls, what happened last time you tried to start? (Sorry, it was probably earlier in this thread and I haven't read all the pages in a while...) Hope this time goes better! Some salmon sounds lovely. I need lots of tea (black or green) to get me through the day, but you may not be a caffeine addict like me. A lot of people seem to enjoy sugar-free jelly as something sweet?

jan2011 · 18/05/2012 04:37

hi brightness, how did you get on? studying great to hear you are feeling good again and your weight is down!

well i am afraid i didn't do very well yesterday. i have been absolutely knackered from no sleep (8month old) and being too tired didn't help but i had lots of things i shouldn't have had. then, when i was supposed to get back on track, dh did an online shop. i gave him strict instructions what to get me, he still got lots of apples! i am thinking i will just add some more fruit and veg into dukan diet, to make it more healthy for me. like a modified version. but will still aim for overall low carb, low fat high protein: just not as extreme as dukan!

studyingstudying · 20/05/2012 19:55

Oh no Jan, its no good when you are unintentionally snookered! I suppose your dh thought he was buying normal diet food and the apples fitted well into that? I think your overall low carb is probably ok? The best you can do anyway :) I have no idea how you are doing this on no sleep - I seem to be needing more sleep than ever at the moment! Hope you can get back on track soon.

I have had an ok weekend I think - I am still craving sugar but am trying to be strong about it!

jan2011 · 22/05/2012 10:36

hey studying how are you getting on? sugar cravings are the worst! ive actually decided dukan is too strict for me at the minute. (forgot to mention im a vegetarian) so i am trying the bootcamp, but im finding i don't fit in there either because 1 too much fat 2 not enough carbs or diary allowed. so at the minute im trying to follow my own version incorporating bits of all of them lol i just want something to work. ill still check here now and again! take care x

studyingstudying · 24/05/2012 15:24

Oh dear, noone seems to be on this thread anymore! Oh well.

I am continuing to fight sugar cravings - rather I am trying not to give in to them. I have cheated a few times, but have tried to make sure its sugar-only cheating and not carbs. I have no idea if it makes a difference (I think a cheat is a cheat, regardless of what it is) but it makes me feel like I have a LITTLE control :)

Today is a PV day, which is great as the sun is shining and I feel much more like salad than meat! Hope everyone from earlier in this thread is still getting on well.

drywhiteplease · 25/05/2012 22:52

I'm here, always lurking. Think I have od'd on activia yogurts tonight though.

Can you believe this crap sods law though?
One of my big incentives to loose weight was to get into my fav evening dress for a big do tomorrow....I've been looking fwd to it since I started Dukan in Jan. ok so lost weight, look fab, (dress too big...heck bought new one!), manicure (rare occurrence)booked, subtle fake tan done, hair tomorrow ......but shit bastard toothache started on Monday. By Tue I thought on no this is not good, by Wed I'm at the dentist with an abscess !agony. Penicillin. Eating difficult (not a prob on Dukan!!)....still in pain today, went back to Dr Death, more stronger anti biotics to take as well as penicillin.....but NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED!!! Damm!
Anyway hopefully I will feel better tomorrow....thank goodness ibuprofen, paracetamol, penicillin and anti biotics don't contain carbs!!

Keep at it studying you are doing so well.

Just peeking in to see what people's experiences of this diet are - I have previously lost weight on low carb, gained a load after marriage/kids etc., just lost 3 stone on cambridge diet, but it is getting very expensive and is mostly a low carb diet in the earlier stages - thinking of switching to Dukan / other low carb in a couple of weeks time...

studyingstudying · 03/06/2012 21:56

Hi cockneydad,

I have got on well with this, apart from the massive sugar cravings! If you can get over them (~3 days) then you'll do great! I have lost 11lbs since the end of April, but thats been in 2 stints of actually following the plan (weddings and evenings out derailed me slightly...)

Good luck!

andlipsticktoo · 03/06/2012 22:10

I've just started this diet too. I'm on day 4 Attack phase and today I'm craving carbs (something sugary in particular), and feeling tired. I am hoping this will pass! I am quite determined not to step on the scales until I've done a full week, but I'm not sure if I can manage PP for that long. I've gone right off smoked salmon, smoked mackerel and cottage cheese already!

I want to lose about a stone to 1 and a half, so it's good to see there are others out there succeeding with this. How much difference do you find exercise makes to this plan?

BettySuarez · 12/06/2012 09:24

Im about to start Dukan - just waiting for book to arrive from Amazon. I must say that I am finding it a bit confusing so I hope that the book will help to clear things up for me.

Will it give me a clear list of all the permitted foods that I can eat in the attack phase?

I am finding some of the recipies from the site a bit revolting TBH so would prefer to just have a list of what I can and can't have so that I can pick the bits I can manage and create my own meal plans.

I am really worried about breakfast in particular as don't have time to cook and the smell of food so early in the morning makes we want to heave!

I am getting quite anxious before I have evn started Grin

drywhiteplease · 12/06/2012 22:55

For sugar cravings try sugar free jelly andlipsticktoo ...I had so much of it it makes me feel sick, also natural yogurt with sweetener and cinnamon is delicious.

betty don't stress. I followed the book to the letter, never tried website fussy recipes, lost 18lb. Try to master the galette....they were the key for me ( if you need help cooking them i can help). You can make a load in advance and keep them in the fridge then have for breakfast piled high with cottage cheese and are really filling. The tuna muffins are good too for breakfast as they really fill you up.

My key to success is to fill my fridge with cooked chicken, crab sticks, cottage cheese, prawns, activia light vanilla etc so i had Dukan food always to hand when i got the munches, and to never get hungry.

Good luck.

FionaSR · 13/06/2012 23:14

Háve been reading this thread for weeks and it's really helped but I am now stuck and would really appreciate suggestions.
I lost 18lbs in about 8 weeks but then nothing. I really stuck to it for 3 weeks more and nothing. Good news is after 2 weekends "off" I haven't gained either. But now back following dukan properly again and static.
Any ideas on how to get thngs going again as I have another 25lbs to go.
Thanks.

Unknownmember · 14/06/2012 04:15

I've just started and am in day 4 of attack. So far I've lost 5 pounds! But I'm missing veg! The one thing that brought a smile to my face was the dukan biscuit. Oat ran, 1tbsp of milk l, sweetener and cinnamon. A digestive it isn't, but a crunchy biscuit! Yum

ladymuckbeth · 21/06/2012 11:55

I need to go back and read this thread, but wanted to mark my place. I did Dukan in 2010 with resounding success, posting on the MN thread at the time - lost 4 stone relatively quickly and got to within 5 pounds of my goal weight. And then what happened? Gawd knows really - but lots of stress at home, moving country, and the general kerfuffle of life meant that slowly but surely I managed to put half of it back on. I'm not deluding myself though - I know there's something else in there too... somehow not quite ever feeling 'stable' at a lower weight, as though it's just a matter of time before I get tipped back to a higher one. No idea how to work on that yet.

BUT for now, having faffed around trying to low-carb and for some reason it just not gelling this time, I have been back on Attack since Monday and with some success - I am 7 pounds down in 3 days! Shock I think that goes to show how bloated I must have been... I have been weeing like there's no tomorrow since starting!

36 pounds to get back to my goal weight, this time I'm seeing a personal trainer to hopefully make me feel a bit healthier and more stable about the weight loss.

Well done to all the successes on here, I don't know what it is about Dukan but it really does work....
