I want to lose 1.5 stone - anyone care to join me?

Right!

I've been intending to lose weight for a few months now and it's getting worse instead of better!

This week I weighed and I am the heaviest I've ever been (11 st 7lb at 5 ft 3in) and I've decided I've had enough. I'm happiest around 10 stone, so I am going to aim for that to start with.

I didn't put on much weight with my pregnancy (DD nearly 3) and I am ashamed to say it has just gradually come on in the last year or so.

Today I recieved a load of clothes which I ordered online from Animal (a rare treat for me as it is soon to be my 35th birthday), I really like them but some are a bit tight and would look much better if I was slimmer (especially the combat style jeans - I have a massive muffin top in them) so I'd like to slim down to fit into them as soon as I can.

I'm planning to do some exercise on the Wii (My Fitness Coach) every day (at least 15 mins but preferably 30 mins) and I am going to log my food using Myfitnesspal.

I recorded my measurements lately, so I'll pin them up here soon as a reminder and update now and again.

Anyone like to join me, or do you mind if I use this as a sort of online diary to keep motivated?

Hello can I join you? I've not weighed myself for a while but I'm guessing I'm close to the 13stone mark (will cry buckets if I've crossed that). Id love to lose 3 stone but will be happy with 1 at this moment. Will brave the scales later and note the vital stats.

What's everyone doing to lose the weight?

WinterLover · 15/09/2011 13:36

Im trying to not eat crap, but its so hard with DS only being 7weeks old. However I am doing a fitness DVD every morning so hopefully thats going to help.

Once I start to feel a bit better about myself I'll tackle the food aspect I think.

What are you planning on doing?

ninaprettyballerina · 15/09/2011 14:20

My plan is the 30 day shred. Not done it yet although I have sat and watched the first workout ... twice. I also plan to tackle food later. Hubby is away til Monday so it's a good time to attempt the DVD without an audience so once the kids are in bed tonight I shall begin

quornsausages · 15/09/2011 17:09

Hi All!

Ah just wrote a load of stuff and lost it all, basically I'm going to track my calories with my fitness pal, I'm going to aim for under 1400 cals a day.

I'm also using the Wii My Fitness Coach here. I've done 5 workouts so far (mostly 30mins with some 15 min ones) over the past 5 days. At the beginning I logged my measurements into the game and I can't seem to get at them, they are showing in a graphical mode not giving me the actual numbers. I'm hoping it will let me update after 9 or 10 workouts so I can get the actual numbers and post it here. I remember my waist was about 35 inches though - ughhh the biggest it ever has been.

I'm going away tommorow for the weekend and back on Monday night, I'm hoping I can stick to it all, but should get lots of walking done.

Noticed that my appetite is a little reduced since doing the workouts so that's a good thing, logged my cals yesterday and it was just over 1100cal.

So fed up of being like this, so I'm going to get obsessed now, I'm either all or nothing - so if I just intend to do something it doesn't work iyswim.

Anyone ever done a photo diary to keep them motivated? Thinking about it but not sure.

OP posts:
WinterLover · 15/09/2011 18:30

Ive done pictures before, it did help a bit.. best bit was when DP noticed Shock but that was last year pre-pregnancy when I had a few months of kicking fat lol

quornsausages · 16/09/2011 09:14

Yes, some people's before/ during / after photo's are amazing! I spent some time on the community section on myfitnesspal looking at the success stories pictures yesterday.

Some of the best ones though are bikini/underwear shots as clothes can hide such a lot, and I'm not sure I would want anyone to accidentally come across them on my camera!!! Hey, look at DD in the park....oh, no....don't look at that photo!!!

Well just completed my food diary for yesterday, I ate 1151 calories and burnt off 174 cals by doing 45 mins (30+15mins) of Wii exercise. I know my food intake is pretty low at the moment (so myfitnesspal tells me), but normally I struggle to keep below 1500....so I'll take advantage of my low appetite while I can.

Starting to see a little difference in my arms, my bingo wings are getting smaller I think and my legs feel less wobbly. I'm starting to enjoy the workouts too.

Hope nobody minds me posting my ramblings on here, but it's better than writing it on paper as at least someone may be reading.

Have a good weekend everybody, I'll be back Monday night. I'm hoping I can stick to being sensible while I am away! See you soon.

ninaprettyballerina · 16/09/2011 15:50

Great that you're noticing a difference already quorn. Well my new start was ruuuuubish. Did 10 mons of the DVD and had to sit the rest out. Day 1 starts again tonight!

quornsausages · 20/09/2011 08:54

How's everyone getting on? I really had a pretty bad weekend food and exercise-wise. It was pretty stormy, so didn't get as much walking done as normal. Food was bad, but didn't overeat as much as I normally would on holiday iyswim.

But back on the wagon today now. Planning to do thirty minutes of my workout later and then maybe 15 minutes this evening also. Also planning to keep to under 1400 cals today. Though not much food in the house due to us being away and haven't replenished the fridge.

thehairybabysmum · 20/09/2011 09:14

Hi, can i join...i am the same as you 11.5 sone and 5ft4, also happiest at 10 stone. Im also doing MFP. ill add my measurements tonight and post more as im at work at eh mo.

Have to say though that 174 cals for 45 mins of exercise doesnt seem much Shock for your efforts. I have done the shred DVD before and that is fab, a really good workout! What sort of exercise is the Wii...are you getting out of breath for that time?

quornsausages · 20/09/2011 11:14

Hi Hairybaby, of course you can join! Smile It's good to have someone of similar height and weight to compare with.

I also think the Wii underestimates the calories burned. It's this game I am doing. It's not very motivating when you see so little calories burnt after your efforts but I guess I'll just concentrate on doing it and see what happens.

It has the same sort of exercise as a workout class/dvd (cardio, squats, bicep curls, plank etc), it adjusts the intensity as you play. It asks if a section was easy/ hard etc and adjusts the next session to suit. I do get out of breath doing it, especially if I choose a cardio workout (there are several choices - cardio, yoga, upper body, lower body, core etc). You can also choose the length of workout you want to do (15,30,45,60,75 mins) and add in any equipment you have (big ball, hand weights, step, heart rate monitor.) It's not compatible with the Wii board though. There is a similar PC game: here. My sister bought this and it's basically the same format.

I've seen a little bit of the shred dvd (my sister has it) and I'd say it's got similar exercises, but I'm not sure as I haven't tried it out myself. I was reading MFP and some of the before and after 30 day shred pictures are amazing. I'd love to have those sort of results after a month.

I'd really like to see some results by Christmas and start to look a lot different. Slimmer, more trendy, more effort into how I look. I also really want those combat jeans to fit well. Think it must be mid-life crisis.

quornsausages · 20/09/2011 17:03

Just completed a 30 min workout now on lower body, didn't feel like doing it but glad I did. May do upper body later for 15mins. Food has been ok today too, but obviously only half-way through the day (nearly up to 700 cals).

meala · 20/09/2011 17:29

Hi there!

Can I join too please.

I've gradually put on over a stone in the past year (partially due to medication that I've now stopped and mostly due to my overeating and lack of exercise Sad)

I've not weighed myself for a while and have tried to increase my exercise by walking to school and nursery (when dry) and cycling a bit. I need some motivation though with food as I guzzle, especially when DH working nightshift.

Hope to lose about 1 stone by Christmas/birthday time.

quornsausages · 20/09/2011 18:06

Hi Meala, of course - the more the merrier! Smile

It's scary how much the weight creeps up on you when you're not looking isn't it?!

I'd like to take up cycling soon too, I live near some great cycle tracks so I should have done this a long time ago. I also walk a lot when I get the chance, but the weather over the summer has not been that great.

My main downfall is the food too, I think that's why I started to post here, to keep myself motivated to keep an eye on it.

MeanMrsMustard · 20/09/2011 18:09

Hello... Another one here seeking permission to join...
I've put on a LOT of weight recently, especially since I gave up smoking six months ago, and and am now 3 stone heavier than at my most confident. I was 12st9.5lbs when I weighed myself on Friday. I want to be 9st10lbs.
I have just started going to the gym and swimming, which I havent done for years. I really want to be one of those people who gets addicted to exercise!

Food wise I'm trying to up the veg intake and ditch anything too fatty aswell as cutting down any carbs I've self identified as being my triggers (bread/pasta/potatoes).

I will post my measurements tomorrow.

quornsausages · 20/09/2011 22:11

Hi MeanMrsMustard, welcomeSmile. Congrats on the quitting smoking, that's a massive achievement. Do you feel better from it?

I'd like to be addicted to exercise too - sounds good.

Mmm, yes I eat a lot of bread, pasta and potatoes too, especially bread. It's really hard to limit them I find. Have you ever tried Slimming World? On certain days (green) - you can eat unlimited pasta, potatoes and rice and a limited amount of bread or cereal etc. I found that worked well when I first dieted. Not so much nowadays though.

Sweet stuff always beats me too.

Well I'm going to input my food into MFP and I'll update here in a bit.

OP posts:
quornsausages · 20/09/2011 22:26

Just completed my food diary - came in at 1506 cals (target was 1508 with 128 cals included for the 30 mins of exercise earlier- which I normally wouldn't count in). I ate a muller yogurt corner and that really pushed up the calories and I didn't realise...was nice though. Oh well, be more careful tommorow!

Didn't do my extra 15 mins of exercise that I wanted to do either as we went food shopping and the time just went this evening.

Catch up with you all tomorrow.

OP posts:
quornsausages · 21/09/2011 08:59

Good morning all! Hope you're all up for a good day.

My plan today is to stick to 1400 cals and do a 30min workout.

What are your plans?

OP posts:
RoyalWelsh · 21/09/2011 09:12

Morning, can I join too please? I put on a stone this year after working really hard to lose 3.5, so motivation is rubbish. I have been meaning to lose it since about February! I was just getting to the point where I almost felt happy in jeans and a t shirt IYSWIM? Then Christmas came and a miscarriage and hey presto...

I have been quite good in terms of eating for the last five days or so, just fruit and dinner. But then this morning I got to work and had a kitkat for breakfast Sigh

I will be walking the dog again for an hour today, which has made a definite difference to my fat knees.

At my thinnest I was 8.5 stone and at my fattest I was about 16.5. I am currently about 14 - 14.3 (haven't weighed myself for a while) and am 5' 7''.

FairyBlueBell · 21/09/2011 09:14

My plans are to join you folks on the 21lb quest. Smile

Using myfitnesspal I'm aiming for 1280 cals a day. Currently not a kick in the butt off 80kg and limited for a few weeks in the exercise department due to a knee injury. Same username as here - and looking for friends ...

MeanMrsMustard · 21/09/2011 09:34

Morning!
My plan is 1400cals today too. (B)Special K, (L)Salmon and salad, (D)chicken and Veg, and a banana. It comes to about 1100, so 300cals to play with. I'll hopefully be at the gym tonight for a stint on the cross trainer.

I do feel better for not smoking, but I'm fatter, so still feel unhealthy in a different way! I feel like I've kicked the habit for good this time though. Previously I havent lasted anywhere near this long, so its all good.

My normal diets included cutting back on most foods and smoking a lot. I've never really included exercise before, so I'm hoping this time can be long more term.

My favourite yogurt from previous diets has been total 0% Greek yogurt with mango or berries. I think it was about 100cals and no fat. Muller corners are so calorific. But yummy...

I've made myself some low fat jellies (something like 20 cals) and bought some Options hot chocs. I'm hoping these will get me through most sweet cravings. I live in central London, and about 5 mins walk from several all night shops, so I need to have things at home to prevent the cravings getting so bad that I go out in search of 1am kitkats!

Good luck today everyone.

quornsausages · 21/09/2011 09:34

Hi Slightobsession and Fairybluebell. Welcome Smile.

Slightobsession, well done on the 3.5st weightloss - you'll easily lose a stone again, I'm sure. Sorry to hear about your MC Sad. So hard afterwards to pick yourself up again.

Fairybluebell, I'll look you up on MFP. Hope your knee feels better soon.
