I want to lose 1.5 stone - anyone care to join me?

Right!

I've been intending to lose weight for a few months now and it's getting worse instead of better!

This week I weighed and I am the heaviest I've ever been (11 st 7lb at 5 ft 3in) and I've decided I've had enough. I'm happiest around 10 stone, so I am going to aim for that to start with.

I didn't put on much weight with my pregnancy (DD nearly 3) and I am ashamed to say it has just gradually come on in the last year or so.

Today I recieved a load of clothes which I ordered online from Animal (a rare treat for me as it is soon to be my 35th birthday), I really like them but some are a bit tight and would look much better if I was slimmer (especially the combat style jeans - I have a massive muffin top in them) so I'd like to slim down to fit into them as soon as I can.

I'm planning to do some exercise on the Wii (My Fitness Coach) every day (at least 15 mins but preferably 30 mins) and I am going to log my food using Myfitnesspal.

I recorded my measurements lately, so I'll pin them up here soon as a reminder and update now and again.

Anyone like to join me, or do you mind if I use this as a sort of online diary to keep motivated?

Just done a short 15 min workout on lower body, didn't feel like doing it, but feel better now I've done it. Guess something is better than nothing.

See you tommorow.

Is it too late too late for me to join in? I lost a couple of stone in late 2010 and had a stone to lose, but in spite of going regularly to the gym have plateaued this year. Over the school holidays it was harder to get to the gym regularly then I got ill for a couple of weeks (no loss of appetite Smile), plucked up the courage to weigh myself this morning and found I have gained 3lb. I need something to kick-start a new fitness programme which will be gym + classes (aero-biking and power pump) plus cutting down on carbs. Had my first low carb day today and found it very hard to resist the bread but managed it.

quornsausages · 24/09/2011 23:00

Hi Smadarama, Welcome Smile of course it's not too late for you to join! Well done on losing the weight last year and good luck with losing the last bit of weight!

Thanks for the welcome Quorn - feel enthused now. 30 mins of my Toning DVD planned for today.

MeanMrsMustard · 25/09/2011 10:23

Good Morning!
I hope you have all been having good weekends, and enjoying the sun.

I have been mainly good I think. I used most of my exercise calories on Friday, but on healthy food. I had a small glass of wine and 2 slimline G&Ts (DH measures rather than pub measures, so possibly on the large side), but I planned them in advanced and stuck to my limit. It could have been worse!
I swam for 50mins yesterday, which is about 350 cals I think. I ate about the same amount of cals in a very yummy fat free frozen yoghurt, but still kept to my 1400.
I don't think i'll manage to get to the gym today. Its always hellish on the weekend, and I need a better sports bra before I can take to the streets jogging. I need to get my bike fixed up so I can at least go a cycle ride.

WEll done for sticking to the plan QUorn, and doing the workout despite not wanting to! Much better than me! (feel shamed into doing some sit ups at least sometime today)

Enjoy today, and good luck.

tibni · 25/09/2011 10:36

Hello can I tag along please?

My weight is creeping up and it is because I am eating to much. My fitness is ok but I have room for improvement there too. I have a new job with odd hours and my eating pattern is all over the place.

I have used food focus in the past but not looked at myfitnesspal so will have a look at that.

I know this week will not be a "good" one. It is my 40th this week and dh and I are having a couple of nights away. But I don't want to put this off any longer.

I need people to give me a kick when I slip and generally share the highs and lows.

MeanMrsMustard · 25/09/2011 10:52

Well done for starting now, even though you've got a busy week ahead! One of the reasons I am now my heaviest ever is because I kept on putting the diet off because of proir commitments. I really wish I'd just gone and enjoyed myself at the parties/ dinners etc and eaten carefully for the rest of the time. I'd probably be a stone lighter now if I hadn't used it as an excuse for mad binging like there was no tomorrow!

Good Luck!
Oh, and where are you going for your birthday? (I'm very nosey!)

quornsausages · 25/09/2011 13:35

Hi all - well done MrsMustard. You sound very dedicated and organised!

Welcome tibni Smile, hope you have a great 40th birthday. It was my 35th last weekend and although I went away and I did eat stuff that I wanted to (chip shop chips, pasties, pizzas, veggie burgers - all awful stuff!!!), it wasn't as bad as I'd normally would iyswim, so it's worth starting now, even if you don't stick to it 100%. I even gave away a box of chocolates to my husbands office friends, unheard of!

Been ok today so far, done my workout (30 mins on upper body) and boy did the woman on my game push me today. I was sweating a lot and I very rarely sweat. She's really upped her game.

I'm going to have a quick shower and then out for a bit, the weather seems better here today so may go for a walk if it stays ok.

Catch up later!

I don't officially know where we are going (but I am guessing London for a show). My youngest is severely disabled so this will only be the 2nd time dh will have been away alone in 13yrs and my mum and stepdad were due to stay at our home and have dc (we are going midweek as my birthday is Wednesday and it is easier as dc are at school) but they had to drop out unexpectedly on Thursday. Thought we were going to have to cancel but we have some very good friends.

I am veggie and tend to eat far too much cheese and bread. I am now at the stage where I am avoiding certains clothes in my wardrobe so I need to do something. I am tall which means I kid myself that things are not that bad!

I am a gym member and have gone 3-5 times a week for the last 5 years so I have reasonable base fitness but I know I am coasting at the moment. My job involves 2 or 3 evenings a week minimum so I started eating late and have put on at a guess a stone maybe more.

I guess I am putting myself low on the priority list, I need to start thinking about how to manage my new schedule.

Thanks for the welcome - feel free to shout at me if I slack!

quornsausages · 25/09/2011 19:22

Have a lovely time tibni! I'm veggie and I eat a lot of bread and cheese too. It's just an easy stand-by I find. Well done on having the commitment to have regularly gone to the gym for the past 5 years. I reckon a stone will come off soon for you.

Smadarama · 25/09/2011 22:02

Hope everyone had a good day. Did 30 mins of my toning DVD and kept to low carbs today but it was really hard. Really noticed how much I normally 'pick' - watching DS eat a packet of kettle crisps without me having some too was particularly challenging.

quornsausages · 25/09/2011 22:41

Oh yes, Smadarama! I've really struggled with that too! Yesterday my daughter and husband were eating some chocolate buttons and some of those chilli nuts from julian graves (the ones with a sort of spicy coating), I had a handful of each thinking I was being quite controlled by not eating anymore than that. Logged it at home and I'd ate about 600 cals worth. That's why I was starving last night as I'd used loads of calories on them and didn't have much to spare then in the evening. I find that the hardest thing of all, seeing my daughter or husband eating something I fancy and not being able to have any. Well done on sticking to it today!

OP posts:
quornsausages · 25/09/2011 23:28

Just logged my cals for today - had an ok day and ate 1527 cals (including my cals from exercise). Hope everyone has had a good day!

Was pretty chuffed earlier, I wore my new combat jeans (the ones that inspired me to start). I still had a muffin top but it was hidden underneath a loose topBlush. They were definately looser though and comfortable enough to wear.

I'd like to lose the muffin top!!! I had a c-section with my daughter and the fat collects just above the scar, not sure if it can go completely but would like to get rid of some of it.

Catch up tommorow!

Hi. Is it too late to join? I need to lose at least 1.5 stone. Currently 13 stone and 5'6"

I went on the Dukan diet yesterday, inspired by friends who have lost shedloads on it. I am sick of the sight of meat and fish already! I am a carbohydrate lover.

I don't do gyms, but I do walking and allotment. tibini, my DS1 is also severely disabled and I think our coping mechanisms for excessive tiredness and stress have been to reach for one too many large glasses of wine and lots of carbs. I'm nearly 50 and things have to change

HavingAnOffDAy · 26/09/2011 09:38

Another one here wondering if it's too late to join?

I'm aiming to lose 1.5 - 2 stone.

I had DC2 in Feb & have hovered around 11st 10 since then. I'd love to be 10st again so am currently doing WW (but thinking of swapping to Slimming World as that has worked for me before) and joined a gym last week. I invested a bit in getting a personal training session & had a programme written that will work me hard in an attempt to see results before I get too bored Grin

I'll measure myself later & post up here.

My problem is I live to eat, and though I don't eat too much of the wrong stuff I'm quite sedentary in day to day life.

DD1 has just started school so I'm walking a bit more than I used to so hopefully I'll start seeing a difference in my clothes soon.

Yummygummybear · 26/09/2011 11:13

Morning all!

Welcome new ladies! :) You've come to the right place! Everyone seems so motivated & it rubs off! :)

I'm pleased to report a 3lb loss on my 1st week. I have been counting my cals on My fitness pal since Wed and have been doing a mixture of exercises...a gym session, 2 x couch to 5k week 1 on the treadmill & a couple of short sessions on the wii fit. My Shred dvd has arrived & I will be trialling it later today. I will admit to being a bit scared!
I'm also booked in a for a dance exercise class tomorrow so am certainly shaking things up.
I seem to be under my cals on most days which isn't ideal but I don't want to bump them up with junk or rubbish.

I noticed someone mentioned the 30 day shred dvd. Have you started yet? Do you plan to do it everyday? I have about 3 or 4 different exercise plans on the go so will probably only do it twice a week. Not sure if the results will really show if I don't do it everyday.

I've decided to measure myself before I get started...

deep breath

Bust 42"
Waist 39"
Hips 44"
Upper arm 12"
Thigh 24"

Will pop back later to see how you all are, I'm supposed to be working! Wink

quornsausages · 26/09/2011 12:22

Hi all, welcome Bakelitebelle and HavinganoffdaySmile. Good luck!

Well done on your weightloss yummygummy! 3lb is fab. My sister has offered to lend me the 30 day shred, but I think I may wait until I've lost a bit of weight first and there's actually something there to tone up. My sister did it for 8 days (and then had a bit of a blip as her kids had a bug and it fell by the wayside), but she said that she felt the difference after that time.

Looking forward to seeing your results with it. There's some amazing pics on the myfitness pal- community- success stories forum after people have been using it. You can really see that people have toned up and lost inches. Are you going to take before/after pics?

Having an ok day today, done a short 15 min workout. May do more later but my daughter was busy around me so I did not choose the 30 min option.

Catch up later.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, posting on here has made me geat my head and arse in gear. Got on the scales to face the reality of the problem and it is about a stone I need to shift.

Well done yummy on the weightloss.

I have the shred dvd and it is a very good workout - I just think I am more suited to the gym. I do use some of her moves as part of my gym workout - abs on level 2 I find very good and a little different from the usual straight sit ups.

Went to the gym this morning and had a cardio interval session - about 600 cals. Food has been ok but it will be a long evening till we eat as ds has an afterschool respite playclub session and will not get back until 7pm. Tomorrow I am going food shopping as the fridge looks rather bare and very calorific. Not registered with fitnesspal yet, I will try and get that done before ds gets home or tonight as I think that will help keep me on track.

Brill about the combats quorn - fab motivator being able to see the difference.

quornsausages · 26/09/2011 23:02

Just logged my food and exercise for today. Did an hour in total of workout (15+15+30mins = 272 cals (pretty paltry really)) and kept to 117 under my calorie goal with exercise added on.

Had a bit of a wobbly moment just now, wanted a Muller Corner Limited Edition (very nice btw) but had a boring old Ski yogurt instead to let me have a few more excess calories for the day. I like the way on MFP it will tell you 'If every day was like this you would weigh XXX lbs in 5 weeks'. I put the two yogurts in and saw the difference in projected weight loss and decided on the boring one!

Oh if anyone has got a Wii - I have just bought this on HMV now, just to mix things up a bit with my workouts:

EA sports active 2 for £6.99.

Day 3 of Dukan diet. Not hungry, in fact can't stand the thought of food apart from yearning for good, healthy salad and fruit (not allowed for 5 days). Protein protein protein.

Feeling utterly exhausted, sweaty and confused! It says in the book it will pass within three days...

Weight Sunday 13st. Weight today 12st 10lbs. No exercise apart from usual walking from A to B

quornsausages · 27/09/2011 11:04

Wow, well done Bakelite - 4lbs in 2 days! How long are you allowed to do it for?

What kind of things are you eating? I'm guessing it's no good for veggies?

OP posts:
FairyBlueBell · 27/09/2011 11:42

Hey all - looks like my attempted post from yesterday didnt get past the "preview" stage - darned ropey internet connection. . .

Welcome to the new folks too :)

Shred DVD arrived yesterday, and I plan to start Level 1 at lunctime a benefit of working from home that will keep me away from the fridge

Bakelite the Dukan looks hard, does it "ease off" a bit from the 100% protein? Not sure I could do extreme low-carb again, but did lose and maintain a good loss from Atkins a few years ago.

Yummy I also took a long slow deep breath and put my measurements on myfitnesspal yesterday!

Bust 44"
W 37"
H 41"
T 24"
A 14"

Now, lets make those number smaller Blush

Yummygummybear · 27/09/2011 13:04

Bakelite, well done on the loss so far. It sounds like hard work though! I love my salad! I have tried cutting right back on carbs in the past but I love them too much! I never know what to eat if I don't have carbs.
Having said that though, a guy I know has lost 6 stone on a no/low carb diet so it does work I'm just not sure if you can keep it up for life.

Well done quorn for saying no to the muller corner :). I'm not sure whether I like fitness pal estimating my 5 week weightloss as I can never work out if I am doing well or not. I try to eat all my calories but not my exercise calories unless I really need to but I still get in trouble! Wink.

Tibni, Sounds like you had a great workout! Well done!

FairyBB, I hope you are enjoying your 1st Jillian session as I type :). I am on day 2 & yes it hard! It makes me sooo hot! I'm not over keen on the cardio parts as jumping jacks etc are tough but hey if it helps me tone up it has to be done!

I did that dvd today & am also heading out to a dance exercise class this evening. I must remember to wear my heartrate monitor as I keep forgetting!

Hope everyone is having a good day!
x

FairyBlueBell · 27/09/2011 16:58

wow Yummy thats a tough day! Enjoy the dance class!

I will probably live to regret saying this think Jillian on the Shred is fab, even though she says that you have to do jumping jacks!

Let's see if I can get out of bed without groaning tomorrow!

Smadarama · 27/09/2011 20:48

Everyone sounds like they're doing really well. I've kept off the bread, pasta and today went to the gym - just 30 mins cardio as I haven't been feeling 100 % for the last couple of days. It feels like ages since I've really pushed myself in the gym.
