Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

I went to Boots but they didn't have any - I think it will have to be amazon. The fact I am thirsty all the time and light headed makes me think I'm heading that way.

I was after the carb content of mozzerella as I pigged a 125g ball, only to have myfitnesspal say there was something like 13g of carbs in the bloody thing; rose elliot claims there is 2.2g per 100g of carbs in mozzerella, so there's a massive difference. If myfitnesspal is right, I can only eat protein without carb content for tea.

This is hard work.

But I weighed myself and I've already dropped 4lbs since Thurs morning, so it's faff I can live with Grin.

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/11/2011 13:26

According to this site it's very low in carbs

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 13/11/2011 13:36

Excellent. I am feeling very greedy today which is a bit disappointing as I was hoping my appetite would disappear! I've eaten loads in the last couple of hours.

I totally agree about the first couple of weeks. It really does get easier. I think also after a while it becomes second nature, knowing what you can eat so you don't have to think so hard.

Right off for fish and chips Hmm - not really sure how to compromise on that one!

FreeButtonBee · 13/11/2011 17:22

Cat - we can be diet buddies! Yes, I'd love to be 9 7. Haven't been that skinny in a LONG time. Am 5' 3 so every lb makes a difference. But if I could get (and stay under 10st) I'd be really happy, TBH.

Have been making good choices today, people. Feta salad for lunch, with halloumi (cheese much?!) and only a tiny tiny corner of lovely fresh lebanese bread. Had fizzy water, rather than coke.

Dinner is going to be roast chicken thighs, roast veg of some sort and salad.

Right, off to make a vat of chilli for the coming week. I've really come round to it with just sour cream and cheese. Not too carb-y but nice and filling and wintry.

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 13/11/2011 17:28

Hmmm fresh lebanese bread...

I understand the diuretic - I feel totally dehydrated in spite of drinking loads of water, and I keep having to get up in the night to pee. It's like being pregnant again! I need to do some exercise but just can't bring myself to do it at the moment - my thighs hurt? Weird. It feels like I've been to the gym, but I really haven't.

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 13/11/2011 17:30

Let me know how you do the fish and chips goinngmad: it's one takeaway that we always have at my parents. I'm guessing the fish out of batter with a side order of fish out of batter?

catinboots · 13/11/2011 20:09

First one to 10st is the winner??? GrinGrinGrin

Disaster! There really were no options on the menu. Ds wanted a fish and chip shop and that's what he got! I took all the batter off my fish, but a few of those chips just jumped into my mouth. Then having avoided all the 144 cupcakes plus brownies I made yesterday, I fell at the last hurdle. It's ds's 15th on Tuesday and dh will be away at work so I made him a cake tonight. Like I haven't made enough cakes this weekend! Anyway, it was chocolate with nutella and caramel nibbles, and I had to have a very very small piece.

Hey ho. This is for long term. Back on the plan tomorrow Smile

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/11/2011 08:52

Morning all!

CP Phase 1 starts today. I have allowed myself one cup of coffee to start the day, but will be drinking peppermint tea for the rest of the day.

I also did get on the scales so that I know my start weight Hmm and hopefully will be able to document the losses as I go on.

Sad

I'm feeling rubbish today, really upset, really tired - doing anything feels like a struggle - and really hungry. I've already eaten a protein shake, an omelette and a salad with mayo and halloumi cheese and it's not even dinner time yet!!!! Argh!!!!

It doesn't help that I'm once again super-stressing about DD which is what started all the comfort eating in the first place.

I weighed 1lb more today too, so that has p-d me right off.

I'm at breaking point already and it's only day 5. Jeez.

FreeButtonBee · 14/11/2011 12:24

Oh Kinky Keep going! You can do it! Have a pint of water and stretch your legs for 5 mins. For the first while on this diet, I eat TONS but if it's mainly protein then it will fill you up. And your appetite will drop. Keep the faith.

I had a breakfast meeting and had smoked salmon and scrambled egg with a tiny bit of brown toast. That's my bit of carbs for the day I think. Not hungry yet but will prob have salad of some sort for lunch at about 1pm then a big bowl of HM chilli with toppings for dinner.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/11/2011 13:45

Kinky - you are at the very lowest point of this diet, and it will get better, do not give up! You do eat a lot to start but it does drop right off.. Keep going!!!

BIWI - am checking in on CP Phase One, Day One - how is it going so far??!!!!

kinky - stick with it - you are almost through the worst part of it! And good on you for choosing low carb foods today. One of the key benefits of this diet is that the advice is to eat when you're hungry - just keep your carbs within your daily limit.

Rather - all going well so far!

Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, and for lunch I've just had two pan-fried turkey breast steaks. I used a small amount of olive oil to fry them in, and just served them seasoned with salt and black pepper, and ate them with a little bit of English mustard.

One coffee and two cups of peppermint tea. And I had a can of Sainsbury's No Added Sugar Cream Soda (which is yummy!) with my lunch.

Not sure what to have for dinner - I have to go to a talk this evening, which doesn't finish until 7.30, so I will be late. Not sure whether or not to eat before I go or risk being very hungry by the time I get back!

Ah, but (lean) protein is the basis of Cunning Plan Phase 1! (It's something called the Three Day Experiment that I have done from time to time - no idea why it's called the Three Day Experiment, other than it lasts for three days!)

It's fine. As much as anything it's about your mindset. I view it as three days where I am not especially interested in food, and I divide it up into 9 meals, so I can 'count' my way through it. Therefore, so far I am 2/9, with 7 more to go.

I'm fine with it so far - not hungry, which is the overall plan. And I have a really, really busy day tomorrow, so I won't have time to even think about food. I must make sure that I plan what I'm going to have for lunch tomorrow, as I'll have to take that with me.

kotinka - It's from this site

I used to be a regular on there when I first discovered low carbing. Sadly it's a very quiet forum these days, hence me whinging posting about my low carb stuff on MN now!
