Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

Was trying to put a positive spin on it....actually felt like shite Grin

Much worse than a normal hangover, that'll teach me to stay off the booze maybe

To add insult to injury have put a pound back on - sort of feel the need to do attack phase for a few days to sort things out but not sure if I can face it

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/11/2011 17:38

Going well today - but really want to see some recognition for my efforts come Friday!

Great work with the 2 stone kitinks - do you think you're in ketosis most of the time? or do you think the fact of reducing carbs is enough to get a decent weight loss?

Can anyone help me? Low carb works for me - did it successfully as couple of years ago then plateaued, still not eating much bread/pasta etc. Makes me wheezy and lethargic anyway.

Back on it now - can anybody recommend any lovely hot drinks to make a change from tea/decaff coffee? Am determined to stay off alcohol (have a very low boredom threshold) and would love something different to drink in the long cold evenings.

Hmmm, I suspected as much....

I occasionally have a chocolate highlight but I'm a big cheat

goingmadinthecountry · 08/11/2011 16:55

Ooh, think I have some Green and Blacks in the cupboard. I'm off to check. Will try that tonight, thank you. I know from experience that if I have treats to look forward to, it really helps.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/11/2011 19:35

Last winter when I was doing a low cal diet, soups were my mainstay for lunch, I had a really nice carrot and ginger one that was my fave. I will miss those, maybe I need to find some low carb ones that are as nice.

Hot drinks? Not really for me other than coffee which I would have black anyway or tea and I'm only on 3 a day for the carbs. What about jasmine or camomile tea? I'm not there for those fruity ones any way.

To be honest, I just love a slim gin Grin

I make loads of soup - broccoli and stilton, broccoli and cauliflower, spinach. Gets a bit boring but I try to chuck different spices/herbs in.

I drink far too much coffee - am seriously cutting down - and also far too much alcohol, partly for the taste of something different I think. Anyway, bought some Asda squash with 0.5 carb per serving, so am drinking it weaker with hot water. Not that exciting I admit, but if it keeps me off the red wine...

It's just empowering you kotinka!

Hope it wasn't one of those blow ups with ongoing problems. I'm famous for those, and funnily enough I'm always right Grin

++ on my little sticks so all is good, have a lot of work to do at the computer this afternoon which is quite painful because ideally I would have copious cups of tea. Bit early for the slim gins too Sad

Last three pounds here... bloomin mountain though and going v slowly, it's like it knows I'm at the end. My goal date is the MN party, not that I will look any different or be a different size, it's just good to have a focus date I think.

But then the hard work of maintaining starts and I will seriously need to figure that out. I'm thinking I may start a maintaining thread, because there must be others who need support in this, do you think?

Make sure you come and find me then, I will be waiting!!

It will be two years in January since I started, coming to low carb at the end. Tis a long haul thing innit?!

Hello all.

Back from my weekend, and (as predicted) it was a total LC fail.

Arrived on Friday and was hauled round to DB and SIL's for a firework party. Lovely.

Food served was:

Starter - hot dogs in buns
Main - pork pie with mushy peas
Dessert - parkin

Grin

So I gave it up as a bad job until I got back on Monday. I've been back on the LC wagon since then.

Went shopping today and tried on a dress for the MN Christmas meet up. Had to face up to my full glory in the full-length mirror, and it wasn't pretty Sad.

So I'm working on my Cunning Plan, which I will be putting into operation asap.

goingmadinthecountry · 09/11/2011 17:47

Well done - I think the last time I was only 3lb overweight was when I was born!

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/11/2011 18:08

And that is fantastic news, Rather. 3lbs could just be a super large poo!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/11/2011 18:12

Grin BIWI
And I don't think I'd see your weekend as a fail - just one of those things. Isn't parkin like gingerbread but not?

Right. I'm off to the bathroom, I may be a while!!!
