Hi all I really must start doing this properly. A gain for me this week, so I reckon at this rate I'll have lost about 5lbs by Christmas - just in time to put it straight back on again!

Have been exercising more, though - managed 2 DVDs and a LBT class at the gym this week. That's more about fear of the mobility scooter than anything else (just been diagnosed with arthritis of the hip), but I'm hoping a side-effect will be weight loss. It does make me crave cake, though Hmm.

SlinkyB · 05/10/2011 14:33

Umm, can we please stop talking about pastry now, "diet-buddies"?! Between this and the final of The Great British Bake-off last night, I'm seriously craving all manner of heart-attack inducing lovelies. Tis also my "star" week...erm...have we synched on here? Odd!

bee 7lbs would easily be do-able over Christmas I reckon. Should we have a competition to see who can lose gain the most over the festive period? Oh, wait, was the strikethrough meant to be on the other word there? Wink.

grinningbee · 05/10/2011 15:07

How funny if we have Slinky. Must be why we're all thinking about cakes and pastry.

By the way, I know someone (sorry, I can't remember who) asked about weight gain and star week. From the last couple of times, I think I tend to have water retention in the week before, and then lose it again during. I shall keep tabs and see if it happens again next month.

Shopping all done and away, cupboards well stocked with saintly things. How droll!

A nice box of mince pies with some Baileys cream dolloped on would go down just nicely about now with a cuppa... Dh and I have already talked about what goodies we're going to eat at Xmas Grin I'm being a bad person now, aren't I Wink

Thanks for all the PMs. I am definately at the bottom of the pile.

will wait to see if a few more weigh in before I publish.

Swimming nearly killed me today, was so out of puff. What is star week?
got to go - crying baby!

grinningbee · 05/10/2011 16:26

Star week is just a nice way of saying "period"

Well done on the swimming. It's bound to be tiring at first given how ill you've been! Hope you sneaked off for a relax in the sauna.

Isolated puking incident for DS2 (all over our bed) and DS1 (in the kitchen sink) last night. As it was only the once I have been a bad parent and they went to schoolBlush DS2s school had a "zoolab" day and I didn't want him to miss it. He has been fine. Had to go to Morrisons to buy a new duvet though. I got weighed on their machine while we were there. I am 80p lighter and half a stone heavierShock and the screen is huge - not discreet at all. The only upside is that it only said I "could do to lose some weight" rather than "morbidly obsese". It was only on the way back to the car that the boys mentioned I could have got weighed for free on the Wii fit.

hope you are all doing well for DoD.

11 WIs til christmas is a bit dauntingHmm

kid · 05/10/2011 18:31

I made a delicious chicken curry tonight but had to share it amongst 5 people so my portion was smaller than I'd have liked.
To make it creamier, I added 1/4 can of coconut milk. I figured that shared between 5, the syn value couldn't be that high per portion.

I have to help dh with some paper work tonight so I won't be online for a while later.
I also need to sort out lunch as I didn't have time to make today.

How many syns in a couscous and sweet vegetable dish from asda?

grinningbee · 05/10/2011 19:11

Just looked it up for you Kid the coconut milk is 1.5 syns per tablespoon. It doesn't list the couscous you had, but other ambient 60g pots are showing as 1.5 on extra easy. Hope that helps Smile

I am so tired I can barely see. Here is the list. Sorry for errors. I won't be going back up to the gym tomorrow, It has drained me!

cheese has gained 4lbs this week, start weight 13st 3lbs, now weighs 11stone 8lbs, total loss 1stone 9lbs. Xmas taget to be 10stone 10lbs

Well done bee - have a sparkly 3 stone sticker!

kid · 05/10/2011 19:52

Well done on your losses. I was hoping for a loss (however small) but I should be pleased that I haven't gained anything. I'll put it down to being star week rather than the extra bits of goodies I've been eating.

Thanks for checking the syn value bee, shame syn value is so high! There is no way I had 15 syns worth so I'm not worried.
I can see that couscous online when I do a search on google for 'ASDA Sweet Vegetable Cous Cous (450g)' I didn't eat all of it but I did eat a lot!

Ria, I would have sent DC to school too.

11 WIs till xmas, gulp. If I can do 2lb per week I have a decent chance of meeting my target. Its going to be really hard though. But, there is no point in changing my target, I'll just do my best and see how close I can get.

Pastry removal? I'd prefer to just eat the pastry and leave everything else lol

kristinaRIAnoff · 05/10/2011 21:47

yay for bee, hedge and slinky. Jolly well doneSmile

I'm with you on the pastry kid! But it makes me ill. I bought pork pie for the boys tonight as they begged to have morrisons salad boxes for tea. I would love to have a piece (even though I aren't hugely keen on it, I do like a sliver with ketchup and a slice of buttered white breadBlush), but it does nasty things to me (funny feeling in mouth, a bit dizzy, being really hot, and in the extreme nasty tummy stuff and a bit disorientated I get the same from mayo/shop-bought sandwiches. Wish I could work out what it is exactly that causes it).

kristinaRIAnoff · 05/10/2011 21:55

menu plan done for the next week. shopping list in progress. will get DH to set up the Wii fit in the morning.

My "lovely" DS2 interrupted a conversation I was having with DH this afternoon about a pretty handbag I had seen (whilst trawling the charity shops for non-painful trousers), and he said "what do you want a handbag for? Girls have handbags... you are a very manly woman mummy". I did laugh (better than hysterical crying?), but I gave up wearing full make-up after my Gran's funeral (7 years ago) because I caught sight of myself in a mirror and thought I looked like a man in dragSad. Don't need confirmation from child.

Had another morning in school today. Class TA seems to have accepted I am there for the long haul and was nice! Kid how do you cope when you have cracking headache and feel like throwing up? (thankfully it has passed now, fingers crossed for no puking from anyone tonight) Am lookng forward to learning stuff from my course.

LittlePushka · 05/10/2011 22:41

Aww,...what a nice welcome backGrin

A late result just in from the North:

LittlePushka; Start weight 12st 3lb, current weight 11st 4lb loss of 3lb in two weeks. Xmas target is 9st 13lb

(it's 10 st really but I just want to say, on Xmas Day, out loud, before I inhale the the lunch and then wallop the Quality Street "I weight NINE stone [whatever]" - to which the table will erupt to the applause of Team Pushka Grin and I give them a twirl of my size 12 frock ...[is this already feeling too rehearsed..?!]

So Whatswrong has done a LBT class...is that not just a code way of saying she has spent an hour scoffing what we ALL know is a BLT???!!

I have discovered Zumba. I like it - my pelvic floor is less keen and will have to be spoken to before the next class. I also cannot do that thing where your hips make a figure of 8, your legs are walking like an Egyptian and you clap at the same time.....as far as I can tell only people on speed can do this.

Who of you reprobates started the craze for dissecting chicken pies?! Even at my very fattest lowest point I would never have dared venture to look inside a pie. I think pies should remain crusted up - it is just too horrid to rationalize the content.

Your Royal Slinkiness, I do hope that your sister's involvement with MiniSlink will bring you closer. Life is way too short to not to have a sister onside at all times. Fingers crossed for you Ma'am. Wink

Hi Ria - dont worry about the man thing. kids are horrible! TeenyPushka said to me the other day (when I was trying to play footie with him and Teeny Tiny Pushka) "Mam, you are too old for your age" and given that he knows I am in my mid forties, made me feel about 70. I took me ball home. So there.

LittlePushka · 05/10/2011 22:46

And Bee - three stone sticker? you are amazing!!! Well done!

Cheese - is it not a wee bit soon for you to be thrashing about after your illness. Now I know I am teaching my granny how to suck eggs (...how on earth does that phrase come to mean what it means, by the way?) but, really, ought you not to be conserving yoour energy? Go see a doctorGrin!

LittlePushka · 05/10/2011 22:50

Hedgepig - just a stone to go bloomin' marvellous missus! I am SO happy for you - do you look like a different person? Is it lovely when people tell you you look so great? I am sure it must be such a confidence boost to be where you are.

kid · 05/10/2011 23:10

Phew, finished helping DH with his work. There is no way he would have got it all done to meet his deadline of 10am tomorrow without my help, well maybe if he stayed up all night he might have made it.

Ria, you cope with the headaches by carrying paracetamol with you at all times. If you don't have any, you will usually find another member of staff does! According to my first aid training a few years ago, its actually against the law(?) to give someone else a paracetamol. You can give them if you are giving them the entire closed pack. If not, you have to be in a locked room or some such rubbish. It was a long time ago but I remember it being something ridiculous like that.

I've had a small glass of red wine tonight, its bloody gorgeous!
I'm beginning to think exercise isn't necessarily helping me lose weight. Its definitely helping me tone up, there is no question about that but I want to be lighter as well as toned. What do you reckon? Should I lay off the exercise or stick with it?
I actually enjoy the classes I do (once they are over) but I am fed up with hovering around a set weight. I need to keep having losses to keep me motivated.

Hedgepig · 05/10/2011 23:25

evening, Bee well done, what haven't you been eating Grin

Sorry it was me and the pie dissecting, I thought it was a cunning wheeze at the time but I won't be repeating it.

Pushka I am a different woman but now i have people telling me "don't loose too much weight" "have you stopped now" etc etc., so I have started lying and saying I've finished loosing weight now. I haven't yet got into the health BMI range yet ho hum people hey!

DS2s Birthday today and I only had a teeny bit of Lightening McQueen cake (it was pretty horrid tbh, looked good though), he loved his pressie of a playmobil camper van, he wanted to sleep with it ahh It's great, it's got people and bikes and a picnic table and pots and pans and a shower and beds just loads of bits to play with. DS1 (8 yr) is very jealous

LittlePushka · 05/10/2011 23:29

Evening kid! I understand that muscle is denser than fat - so that if you exercise a lot and you burning fat but at the same time you are increasing your muscle mass, than you will not lose weight. And toned is good! I would say stick with the exercise. Go back to keeping a food diary for three or four weeks and include every single thing that you put into your mouth to eat (and dink!). Just might give an indiaction of sneaky sins or why things have halted.

But definitely keep exercising, for sure!

kid · 06/10/2011 00:21

Thanks oh wise one Smile
I know it makes sense to exercise but I don't want to be a heffalump forever Grin

Toned is good, you are right and I'm healthy on the inside. Loads of people are commenting on how much weight I've lost but truth be told, I've only lost 5lb since early September. But, I have lost 15lb since May or June which is good. I wish I hadn't started again from scratch after my holiday as I feel gutted that I've lost so little and others have lost so much. Oh well, it seemed like a good idea to begin at the time.
I'm really pleased others are doing so well btw, I just wish I could do equally or nearly as well. It's 3lb on, 3lb off, sts so I feel I've wasted 3 whole weeks Sad

Maybe I just a kick up the backside. A tape measure would come in handy too so I can see results (seeing as the scales aren't showing anything major).

grinningbee · 06/10/2011 00:47

Kid you are doing really well! Definitely get a tape measure. I took my measurements when I started, and it's staggering how many inches have gone.

I only look as though I did well this week because I had the big gain last week. In effect I cheated. And I'd already had the 3 stone sticker once (pre gain) so don't deserve another.

Pushka so glad you are back and on form Grin

Ria you do NOT look like someone in drag. Dc come out with ridiculous things sometimes Hmm

Ds fell asleep before he could eat his tea tonight, and refused to try when we woke him. So... he woke up an hour ago all bright eyed bushy tailed. And it would be when my alarm is set for 5.45 as we have to take dh to a job. Ds has bf'd for England and I gave him some fruit as well, so just waiting for him to get tired again . Dh is still snoring...

Gosh I could eat some pastry Wink Come to think of it a nice thickly topped crumble would hit the spot too

OP posts:
Cheeseandbiscuits · 06/10/2011 07:41

Morning,
kid I agree about the exercise, keep going. It has so many health benefits.
Ria def not someone in drag, kids say silly things!
pushka well done on 3lbs, awesome. I also like zumba although I am crap at it.

Was supposed to be at the gym today but am not going to bother. WIll stick DD in the creche and have a coffee in peace and quiet.
Food looks like:
B: melon, branflakes (HEB) and ff yog
L: Jp and tuna
D: I am going out, venue not confirmed. Hopefully I can find something SW friendly!

grinningbee · 06/10/2011 08:37

Good morning everyone !

What a fun night that was Hmm. At least the sun is shining at the moment.

Food for the day:

Weetabix and a banana
Cheese triangles on toast, clementines and a yogurt
Leftover sweet chilli chicken with tomatoes and broccoli

Enjoy your peaceful coffee Cheese Envy

SlinkyB · 06/10/2011 09:23

Morning all,

Wow, well done bee - losing what you gained on holiday + some is fab in a week! See Cheese, there is hope Wink

hedge fantastic loss too, am most Envy - how did you lose 3.5lbs in a week?

Thanks Pushka, visit from sister went really well actually (don't know why I'm always apprehensive, we usually get on when it's just the two of us). She's having MiniSlink for a couple of hours this afternoon and I feel much more happy - yay. Well done on your weight loss too, only 1lb to go til you're awarded your sparkly, shiny 1 stone sticker :)

Off to my Dad's today; dropping off all my summer clothes Sad, the last of the maternity wear I was slumming around the house in...and some of my size 16 jeans :) Going to collect some office-wear - eek!

kid definitely keep going with the exercise, although it must be frustrating when you hop on the scales each week. I'm going to look for a class on a Monday night, as don't think doing just one Zumba class a week is enough.

Food:

Weetabix
Brown pasta with left-over bolognaise sauce, and a sprinkle of cheese
Mushroom and yellow pepper omelette, new pots sliced & sauteed in fry lite

Have a good day everyone, keep thinking slim!

grinningbee · 06/10/2011 09:36

All sounds very organised Slinky getting the clothes done.

I put a pair of size 18 jeans on the other day when the smaller ones were in the wash - they hang off me now! Woohoo!! May have to invest in another pair of cheap jeans to see me through to the next time.

1 more inch off my hips, and I'll have lost a foot off of my arse GrinGrin Now that is a mind boggling thought. Funny though Smile

OP posts:
SlinkyB · 06/10/2011 10:49

I have to be organised; simply don't have the space here for many clothes! So all my occaionwear/summer stuff/ds's old baby clothes are stored at my Dad's until we move to a bigger gaff.

Speaking of which , no news from the potential purchaser re: an increased offer. Dp is going to chase the agents tomorrow. He got to work today to find they'd been burgled Shock He works for a large I.T firm and quite a bit of kit had been stolen. New laptops all round then (every cloud, dp's was powered by steam).

Wow, a foot off your arse does sound funny bee! Maybe it was the kick you gave yourself and now you can remove it?!
