Nothing Tastes As Good As Slim Feels Part 3

knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:31

Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

OP posts:
BelleEnd · 22/06/2011 15:09

Wow dinky, you've only 2lbs to go??? That's amazing! You'll get there in no time! They do say that metabolism really slows down after about 6, so that may well work.

I've been calorie-checking on my fitness pal. Am Shock at apples and pears!

dinkystinky · 22/06/2011 16:08

Not really BelleEnd- its taken me about ooh a year (DS2 is now 2 and 4 months - I'd lost all the baby weight when he was 7 months, went back to work and put most of it back on again and have been slowly losing it over the past year and a bit) to get there - and about 6 months to get to within 2lbs of goal (which is still at the top end of my BMI - but its a weight I know I can maintain and as I do alot of exercise it's a good weight to maintain without sacrificing muscle tone). Apples are only about 70 cals arent they (certainly the small apples I get are probably only about that)? Go on, shock me with their real calorie content...

justaminute · 22/06/2011 16:31

Knotty - stop saying that Next sizes come up big! I tried on some linen trousers in there a couple of weeks ago and had to go up a size to a 16 to get them over my lardy arse. (they were too big on the waist so I didn't buy them). So Mrs, no excuses, you are a size 10! Well done.

Dinky, if you don't mind me asking what does your dh do? Is he office based? Has it become the norm / expected for him to stay late? Can he go in earlier or work from home in the evening so that he can be home earlier? My dh is very good in that he usually leaves the office at 5 so he can be home in time for bedtime stories but he goes in early and usually fires up the laptop in the evening working away to the small hours, much to my annoyance.

I'm about to test my in the zone status by making chocolate crispy cakes with ds. I will not lick the bowl, I will not lick the bowl.....

LadyBuzz · 22/06/2011 16:48

Wow size 10 knotty and well done TDW getting into your suit!
dinky that is fab hope that last pesky couple of pounds shift soon.

Very busy weekend coming up for me, DS is 5 on friday and we have a christening and his party on Sunday and then another Hmm party at grandmas for him Monday, so that will make quite a bit of cake this weekend.

Gym tonight for me, i do enjoy it but i find it sooooo hard to motivate myself to go.

BelleEnd · 22/06/2011 17:49

dinky you've done really well to do it sensibly though, it's really difficult to resist the temptation to go on a stupid crash diet and lose it all in one go! I am the opposite to you- If I go out to work, I find it easier to stay trim, but I am working from home now and the kitchen is just so close...
Medium braeburn apples are eighty calories, but Flyte bars are only 97... (God I am SUCH a chocoholic!) :o

knotty Next sizes are not big. You are a size ten. End of. Envy :o

JAM If you manage not to lick the bowl, muchos respect. I totally licked the bowl when I make banana oaty cake last week!

Veg soup with one piece of oat bread
2 breadsticks, one with a bit of peanut butter
One slice of ham
Scrambled egg, salad and 2 pieces of oaty bread

Too much bread, but am still really good on calories, so I don't feel too bad. Will have to watch tomorrow as I cracked on Thursday last week. I think I'll be okay though. :)

knottyhair · 22/06/2011 18:00

BelleEnd, just keep the weigh-in in mind, and think how great you'll feel when you get a good result, and it should help keep you on track tomorrow. LadyBuzz, happy birthday to your DS for Friday, and good luck with all that cake - have a bit and enjoy it!

I thought Next sizes were big because I was a 12 in H&M about half an hour before! I know I walked fast but not that fast Grin. I still don't believe I'm a "true" 10 - whatever that is!

OP posts:
LadyBuzz · 22/06/2011 19:20

knotty Next aren't big H&M are small Wink

dinkystinky · 22/06/2011 20:15

Knotty - next time you're near a topshop nip in and try on one of their 12s and 10s. If you fit in the 10, you are DEFINITELY a 10 as their sizings are quite small.

BelleEnd - all that oaty bread sounds rather nice. I take it that it was homemade? Yum. I put on weight coming back to work as, unlike when I was on mat leave at home and used to walk on average about 5 miles a day doing stuff, I sit on my arse all day in the office and used to have a tendency in times of stress to leap head first into the biscuit tin (now I exercise the stress off Grin) which was kept in the kitchen next to my office (helpfully now I have changed offices Grin)

Ladybuzz - happy birthday in advance for your DS. have fun at all those parties - I find whenever I'm throwing a kids party I never get to eat anything anyway so dont worry too much about the calories and enjoy the celebrations.

JAM - DH works in the city (as do I but as a lawyer). He leaves the house at 7 every morning (if not earlier if he has early meetings/con calls) and really cant get home any earlier than he does (where he can he tries to get home by 7 to see the boys and read bedtime stories but only manages this once a fortnight at best - and has to work from home after that or is interrupted by calls halfway through).

justaminute · 22/06/2011 22:46

Grrr , I'm on a bit of a downer. Trying hard not to give in. Firstly I just typed a message and it has been lost in the ether. Second, no time to Shred and we lost at netball. We were playing a bunch of whipper snappers we actually do mad things like training and have tactics! Our team is mainly a bunch of mums who turn up for a night out and a gossip. The exercise endorphins have failed to kick in and my legs feel tired . Thirdly I'm tired and need to do some work for a deadline tomorrow

Belle - No respect due. I didn't lick the bowl but I did lick a heavily laden spoon - chef's perkGrin.

Must get on and do my work then bed before I raid the biscuit tin.

justaminute · 22/06/2011 22:50

On my lost post was a response to Dinky ( I'm not ignoring you). It must be tough for dh (and you) to strike the right work/life balance, I guess it's a case of needs must and you get used to it. Still tough though.
We used to have an office biscuit tin too. Thankfully that practice has fallen away after we all realised that our waistlines were expanding

BelleEnd · 23/06/2011 08:50

Don't be on a downer JAM, I know that I could never play a whole game of netball without collapsing on the floor with a stitch and a wheeze, so well done! And the other team, with their training and tactics obviously have no lives :o

I am friendless on MFP. My username is BelleEns (typo while signing up Blush if anyone wants to add me.

thedogwalker · 23/06/2011 09:24

Good morning, I hope you are feeling better today JAM.

Dinky I completely understand that you want to eat with DH, that you need together time, its just a shame it can't be earlier. I thought I was bad not sitting down to dinner until 7pm, but that is without DH as he is still in Germany. So I really feel for you, hope things can change for the better for you and DH.

It's nearly the weekend and it's supposed to be better weather, yee-haa Grin. I've got my village fete this weekend and so will be doing lots of baking tomorrow evening for the cake stall, I can't do/make anything else, pretty useless really at making things, only started baking whilst on mat leave and was shocked to discover that I can actually do it Hmm.

I will have one lick of the bowl, I look at it as one of my treats and one of the perks of being the cook Grin.

Well I hope we can all have a good zone day today and hope that we can all be HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.

thedogwalker · 23/06/2011 09:25

x post with Belle, I'm being a bit of a numpty but what is MFP?

BelleEnd · 23/06/2011 09:28

My Fitness Pal. :)

Shaxx · 23/06/2011 09:44

JAM hope you feel better today! I think the fact that you go out and play netball and win loads is brilliant.

Dinky Dh used to work really long hours. He would leave early and not get back til 8. Some weeks he didn't see the kids all week. Its tough and you do the best you can. I used to wait and eat with him but realised that didn't work for me as I'd pick and pick til he got back and really I wasn't even hungry but would just eat dinner anyway. I just eat earlier now and join dh with a cup of something for a chat while he eats.
Good luck with your last 2lbs!

Knotty sizing in shops are inconsistant and rubbish. I went to a shop last year and bought 3 tops that all fitted - one was a 10, one was a12 and one was a 14. And that was from one shop! It was stupid.

Ladybuzz good luck with all those cakes! Did you go to the gym yesterday?

Belle I'll be your friend! will send you a message in a bit.

Back to 1200 cals today.
porridge
couscous feta salad
chickpea salad

gym today for a 30min treadmill run

Shaxx · 23/06/2011 09:47

TDW what cakes are you baking?. I love baking too but have to limit myself to once a week or if we have people over.

justaminute · 23/06/2011 09:54

Sorry about the downer last night. I was all geared up for a good game and it never materialised I feared I was going to seek comfort in the biscuit tin but I resisted ? yeh! I?m feeling much brighter this morning just very tired, I didn?t get to bed until 1.30 due to sodding work deadline. Lots of water and coffee for me today.

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 23/06/2011 10:06

Morning all.

Justaminute - i hope you feel better today, i wish i could play sports but i have 2 left feet and no co-ordination.

Shaxx - i am also having cous cous and feta salad for lunch, not sure on dinner yet, might be baked potato with cottage cheese and salad?

TDW - What cakes are you making? i have also just discovered baking and plan on trying either a carrot cake or lemon drizzle next? might do one over the weekend and try to make it more healthy? if thats possible!

Not managed to shred yet but have been doing extra at work so absolutly shattered, i do have another run planned tomorrow afternoon with sil tho.

Going to trawl the net for some healthy dinner ideas as im lost for inspiration.

dinkystinky · 23/06/2011 10:12

Well done for resisting the biscuit tin JAM! Its so hard when you're geared up for a good game and the fates dont seem to be in your favour. Glad you're feeling bettter today.

Wow all these bakers on the thread - am impressed! DH is the baker in our family - thankfully he doesnt have much time to do it as otherwise we'd all be alot larger than we are.

Thinbride - if you're still on WW, check out the WW website. Lots of good recipes (and points for them) on there. How was the queen? Grin

knottyhair · 23/06/2011 10:26

Morning! Dinky, that is tough for you (and your DH) - hope you can work something out soon. JAM, sorry you felt so down last night but well done on not biscuit-biffing. Hope work gets less stressful soon. TDW, a lick of the bowl (or spoon, spatula, whisk) is definitely cook's perk! Hope your fete goes OK. It's the school fete here tomorrow but the weather looks a bit dodge. Shaxx, totally agree about the sizing in shops, hence I won't be going near Topshop as it would psychologically damaging to have to buy a 14 Grin! Your food today sounds lush BTW. Thinbride, hope your work gets easier soon as well. Enjoy your run tomorrow. And yes, how was the old girl yesterday Grin?

Have done 4 circuits of BFBM today. A slice of apple fruit bread with a little butter for breakfast, lentil & chilli soup for lunch, not sure about tea but I'm looking at a "summer chilli" recipe from "101 Cheap Eats" - pork or turkey mince, new potatoes, tin tomatoes, peppers, green beans etc. Got new potatoes & broad beans in the box so that could work. Have a lovely day peeps xx

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 23/06/2011 10:46

Knotty - how do you like your veg box scheme? Do you find it works out better than buying in a load of veg from the supermarket? Am pondering as to whether to try out veg boxes...

knottyhair · 23/06/2011 10:58

Dinky, I love it. We've had boxes for about 8 years now. The only thing I'd say is that you do have to plan your meals around them which obviously takes a bit of time. Also you have to be a bit inventive to stop getting bored, particularly in the autumn/winter when you tend to get a swede every week for example! But it's great to eat seasonally, and there's no air miles. They do vary in quality though, we tried a few before we settled on this one Smile.

OP posts:
thinbridewaitingtogetout · 23/06/2011 12:24

Dinky - i will check out the WW website, never thought to look on there!

The Queen was lovely i got really close to her as she walked past as she was only a few feet away. She is much more youthfull than she looks and had a pleasant face (i think alot of press pic's make her quite stearn faced) and the atmophere was brilliant. And also my DD was on the tele! All be it very briefly on the local news last night and i managed to avoid 2 tv crews doing the 6pm news live as i walked to work, to my relief.

Shaxx · 23/06/2011 20:35

The afternoon has been a nibbling nightmare and dh is back late this evening so no gym Sad

Will have tea and watch a film, if theres anything good on sky.

LadyBuzz · 23/06/2011 21:46

ahh shaxx tomorrow is another day don't feel bad.

I did manage the gym last night and actually quite enjoyed it!

Weigh in tomorrow, i've gone by eye on portion size this week so hopefully I have educated myself from all the weighing I have done previously - Fingers crossed!
