Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

Happy Birthday knotty hope you have a good one and enjoyed your weekend.

justaminute · 23/05/2011 10:33

Happy Birthday Knotty. ENJOY!

Weekends are always bad for me and this one was worse than most. It was dd?s birthday last week, she had friends over for a pizza party on Saturday. Cake, crisps, pizza and 6 excitable children = wine is not a good combo when you are trying to lose weight.

Back to the zone with me.

iluvcake · 23/05/2011 10:41

Happy Birthday Knotty! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend-have a great day today!!Smile.

JAM, I'm with you! Had a really bad weekend and almost back to where I started last Monday weight-wise. That's the trouble with low-carbSad. WHY can't I have stronger will power? Having porridge this morning and aiming to do low carb for rest of the day.

Have a good one everyone!

fedupofnamechanging · 23/05/2011 14:20

Had an okay weekend. Wasn't very hungry so could use my calorie allowances on Fry's chocolate cremes. This seemed like a fair exchange for food Smile

Am having a hungry day today though. Am trying to eat low calorie things so I don't blow my allowance. Dieting is very boring!

Shaxx · 23/05/2011 20:42

Happy birthday Knotty! Ah to be 21 again ;)

iluv don't feel bad. It is hard to do low carb (its too hard for me) but the results are really good if you can stick to it. Otherwise just reduce your carbs or have a carb curfew (no carbs after lunch or something). Good luck.

Weekend was a bit of a blow out for me too (like most of us here Smile.
I stayed with my friend on Saturday night (no kids!) and had a great time. Unfortunately it involved lots of food and staying up til 4am. Haven't done that in ages and am still trying to recover Grin
Anyway, I did do a 5km run/walk on Saturday morning and a spinning class yesterday evening to mildly limit the damage!

Had a good day today for food and had mainly healthy soups and yoghurts.

justaminute · 24/05/2011 09:30

I hope all us weekend biffers stayed in the zone yesterday. I had an attack of the sugar munchies around 5pm. 2 mini meringues,a packet of iced gems and a handful of haribo disappeared in a flash Blush then I gave myself a talking to and had some strawberries which tasted so lovely, sweet, fresh and juicy. I need to remember how good they tasted in comparison to the rubbish I shovelled.

On a positive note I went for a 25 minute run last night and ran just short of the distance I did in 30 minutes on Friday. Very chuffed with myself.

Fingers crossed the munchies don?t attack again today

knottyhair · 24/05/2011 10:01

Morning! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Birthday Boxing Day today Grin. Shaxx, {{admiration emoticon}} for staying up until 4am. And good on you for doing a 5km and spinning. JAM, good point about remembering how lovely some healthy stuff tastes. Have you got some nice bits in case the munchies strike again?? And great progress on your running time Smile. Just did 4 circuits of BFBM - really hate standing mountain climbers and the bloody scissor kick squat things. God knows what I look like gallumphing down like a fairy elephant. Had cereal for breakfast, beans on toast for lunch and tuna burgers, salad & a bit of guacamole for tea. I have to clear out what we loosely call "the office" today, namely the room where everything gets dumped but used to have a desk in. Hopefully lumping boxes around might burn off a bit more fat. Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
iluvcake · 24/05/2011 10:26

Thanks Shaxx. You're right about low carb being hard-had forgotten how hard! Last week, I would have sold my soul for a piece of toast or a muffin.

I'm adjusting my plan slightly and having porridge for breakfast and if I am seriously hungry, having a few nuts and some very dark chocolate. Avocado in my salad etc.

Very impressed with the staying up till 4 and all the exercise you've done!

JAM, am with you on fresh, healthy food tasting better. We just need to make these choices more oftenWink. I've just read in a magazine that strawerries get your metabolism going.

Good luck with the office clearing knotty-can you come and do mine afterwards?Wink

justaminute · 24/05/2011 10:54

Ooh ? perhaps the strawberries gave me running legs last night Smile.
Knotty once you?ve done yours and iluv?s please could you pop round to my study/dumping room? Wink

fedupofnamechanging · 24/05/2011 11:12

Good morning everyone,

Went over my calorie allowance yesterday as I was having one of my hungry days where I want to eat everything that's not nailed down (watch out DH)!
Was only over by a couple of hundred, so not disastrous but not ideal either.

Today I have someone here laying new laminate upstairs, so I am stuck in the house until they go. There is no chocolate here either, so I can't even raid the cupboards.

Knotty, I think everyone has a room or space in their house where they just dump everything. Mine is under my house and I'm scared to think what might be under there. Even when I got my first ever house and hardly owned anything, I still managed to fill up the spare room with junk DH's university stuff.

Hope everyone has a good, non hungry day today

knottyhair · 25/05/2011 08:42

Right, JAM and iluv, what time do you want me round? I feel I must warn you however, that I managed to wrench some wires out of the wall temporarily disconnect the internet when moving boxes so you might want to rethink.... Karma, I don't think a couple of hundred over on one day is going to do much damage. Not doing Jillian today as I've got to go into town, then to my parents' for lunch with my aunt & uncle. But I'm walking into town, and also home from my mum's which is just under an hour in total so at least it's something! Mum's doing salmon for lunch which I'll have just with salad, then I'm making a prawn & tomato curry for tea. Hope you all have good days xx

OP posts:
Shaxx · 25/05/2011 09:53

We have an 'office' that needs to be cleared too! Come here next Knotty! Grin
Mmmm prawn and tomato curry sounds nice. I'm going to have to look that one up.

Karma I agree with knotty. Don't worry about going going a bit over. You'll be fine as long as you mainly stick to the diet over a week.

I am very pleased with myself. I went to the gym yesterday and ran on the treadmill for 30mins non stop Grin Thats the first time I've run that long without having to stop for a breather. I was very impressed with myself. Then I looked at the calorie burn and it was only 144! bah!

I didn't have much dinner last night so I was starving this morning and had 2 slices of granary toast and butter and a yoghurt. I have to be really careful for the rest of the day now as I know having bread in the morning sets me up for overeating for the rest of the day.

Hope you all have a good day.

dinkystinky · 25/05/2011 10:04

Well done Shaxx - briliant stuff! Ignore the calorie burn on those machines - they are notoriously inaccurate. Best way to monitor calorie burn is using a heart rate monitor that is tailored to you. Drink lots of water today to

Knotty - lol at you disconnecting the internet! Your tea sounds fab - you always do such yummy sounding food.

Off to US tomorrow so weighed myself this morning - now 10 stone 3lbs (so 4lbs of the mystery 5lbs I put on last Friday has disappeared) but ironically am feeling quite fat and frumpy now rather than last week. Go figure. Am taking my running kit as there is a gym in the hotel we're staying at and a park near SIL's place I can go running in.

Shaxx · 25/05/2011 10:32

Thanks for the water reminder Dinky. That always helps to reduce overeating.
Sorry you're feeling fat and frumpy. I'm sure you're not and its prob just a bit of water retention, anyway Smile
Have a fab, fab time in NY!

BelleEnd · 25/05/2011 10:39

Hello! May I join?
I was on the low carb thread but I made myself ill with it- I ate salad and meat, nothing else, and though I've lost 2 and a half stone in 3 months Shock I was too controlling and ended up feeling awful. The thread was great though, and managed to get me to face up to the crap relationship I have with food- I have been compulsively overeating my whole life, and went straight to serious undereating. So I am sorting myself out now. :)

The plan is to cut out the crap from my diet.

I have had all bran this morning. It was delicious!

dinkystinky · 25/05/2011 10:48

Thanks Shaxx. I think I'm feeling fat as its coming up to that time of the month again... also think am going to get the GP to run some blood tests when I get back from NY as despite the amount of exercise I do and the healthy meals I eat I still have quite a tummy so want to ensure it isnt a thyroid issue.

BelleEnd - Welcome and well done at addressing your food issues - it really isnt good making yourself feel ill with your diet! I try to see things less as a diet and more as a healthy balanced way of living - the holistic approach is certainly more healthy in the longterm and I hope it works for you. Have you figured out why you have such a bad relationship with food? Is it emotional eating, boredom eating or something else?

justaminute · 25/05/2011 11:22

Knotty ? if you manage to get anywhere near the internet connection in my dumping room then you?ll have cleared an enormous amount of stuff. The gas man came the other month to service the boiler and to my embarrassment he wanted to check all the radiators in the house ? he didn?t even attempt to get near the radiator in that room.

BelleEnd ? welcome. Well done on your weight loss, have you managed to keep it off since reintroducing carbs? Low carbing intrigues me but I don?t think I could maintain it and I want to eat the same as the rest of the family. I?m battling to control sugar urges which lead to binge eating. Yesterday a packet of jaffa cakes disappeared Blush. I suspect my yoyo 2 pounds will be back on on Friday (WI day)

Dinky ? Well done on losing those phantom pounds of last week, shame you can?t feel the loss , pesky AF. Enjoy New York, New York

knottyhair · 25/05/2011 14:39

Shaxx - curry recipe is here. Haven't done it before, so we'll see... And wow at running non-stop for 30 mins, there's no way I'd manage that. Hope you do OK food-wise for the rest of the day. Dinky, good idea to get your thyroid checked, mine is slightly underactive and I'm on a low dose of thyroxine now and feel much better. I get free presciptions for life as well, so every cloud Smile... Enjoy "Noo Yoooooork" {{attempting my famous bloody awful Alicia Keys impression.}} BelleEnd, welcome, and well done on losing the weight! Love your name too Grin. JAM, hope you're doing OK combatting the sugar urges. Have you got a bit of dark chocolate or fruit to hand to help?

OP posts:
knottyhair · 25/05/2011 14:40

Grrr, pres crip tions Blush.

OP posts:
fedupofnamechanging · 25/05/2011 15:09

Have a lovely time in NY dinky. Good idea to get your thyroid checked out just in case. shaxx I think it's good that you burned 144 calories - much better than putting them on. That's the equivalent to a dime bar, so well done.

Welcome Belle. I sincerely believe that not all people are cut out to avoid carbs. I know I feel weak and faint if I don't eat any. I think you did really well to stick with it long enough to lose such an amazing amount of weight.

BelleEnd · 25/05/2011 15:22

Thanks for the welcome :)
This is only the 2nd day of being back on the carbs, and I'm trying to make them "good" carbs iykwim- Today I had a small bowl of all bran; slice of rye bread, salad and a few quorn sausages for lunch; Will probably have pitta bread, salad and ham for supper. I am a grazer, though, and tend to eat a lot of fruit and seeds between meals, which I should cut back on.
My eating "issues" (HATE that word!) are compulsive overeating and emotional eating. I love food, I find it so tasty and comforting. But my diet is a lot better than it was so I'm going to try not worrying too much about fruit and remember that I used to binge on crisps and chocolate.
I am trying to curb my obsession with the scales too... Am 11st1 now (goal weight 10st8) and my weight each morning affects my whole day. So I'm going to weigh once a week, on Fridays, and go more on waistbands... I am in a size 12 skirt now and after being in 16-18s for the whole of my adult life, I am not going back.

Shaxx · 25/05/2011 17:54

Hi BelleEnd. Well done for losing all that weight! Its good that you realise you needed to do something about your food 'issues'. I tend to overeat too. I've always been a binge eater and whilst I was young, I could get away with it and not really put on weight (and lose it quick if I did). Now after 2 kids, I find it really hard to lose weight as I find it so difficult to not eat yummy food all the time.
Whats working for me now is a strict 3 meals a day policy, with fruit afetr lunch and a small dessert in the evening. No snacking.

Yummy recipe Knotty. Thanks.

Dinky sympathies. I hate af. Esp on holiday. bleurgh.

I wasn't too bad with food today. I ended up having a cheese and pickle sandwich for lunch (bread cravings) and rice and lentils for dinner. Have got a small slice of homemade lemon sponge for dessert.

LadyBuzz · 25/05/2011 19:11

dinky enjoy the US, hope you have a fab time.

belleEnd welcome and well done on the weight loss so far.

I have had a fairly horrendous week so far, picked all weekend and yesterday had 2 meals and a coffee (with toast butter & jam Shock) out and despite my intentions did not chose the healthy options.

I must must must have 3 very good days until weigh day!

I have treated myself this afternoon for my first stone and have a new tattoo which I love - AND it kept me out of the kitchen for 2 hours Grin

BelleEnd · 26/05/2011 08:41

Ooooooh what tattoo did you get LadyBuzz? I am a bit of an addict!

Well, after two days back on the carbs- And only very few of them- I have put on two pounds. :( I should have expected it as I was basically in starvation mode before, and I have to say that my temptation after stepping on the scales this morning was to have one portion of carbs a day eg half a potato. But I need to stop my obsessiveness and just try to eat healthily, not to think about it all the time. Ongoing battle. I will win. :)

LadyBuzz · 26/05/2011 09:29

belleEnd keep up the positive attitude its bound to take your body a little bit to adjust to the carbs again.

My new tattoo is very girly, I had the DSs names in blue stars on my shoulder and I now have DDs name underneath in a pink star and some cherry blossoms and a couple of butterflies surrounding it. I absolutely love it and can have it extended if I want (by more flowers and stuff not more DCs names!!!!)
