ThisisaSignofthetimes · 23/04/2011 09:21

Good morning ladies, mind if I join you? Did day 1 of the shred yesterday, I ache.....quite a bit. Am just about to go and do it again, can manage about 8 full press ups before collapsing down to finish the set on my knees, but I have to go and buy a wetsuit in about 6 weeks and do not want to look like something a Japanese whaler would shot with a harpoon!

Momentarynamechange · 23/04/2011 10:42

Morning Shredders!

Just checking in as and when I can, which isn't often because of work on the house. Have been managing to Shred about 3-4 times a week, usually in the evening after the houseful of builders have gone!

Everything has definitely shrunk... apart from my arms, which in fact I think have got bigger?!

Has anyone else felt this? My arms used to be the most slender part of me, and now they look like big fat sausages! I'm using 2 kg weights and I'm a bit demoralised. I've been doing Shred for a while (pretty much every day give or take for 1 month, now 3-4 times a week for next month).

So I'm thinking 'this is when it's all going to happen, these last few reps etc. etc.' isn't quite happening for me [bugrin]

Jacksterbear · 23/04/2011 11:10

Welcome Thisis! I'm not a shred veteran like some of these ladies but for me, days 1 and 2 of shred level 1 were the worst (so far!) for achiness... hang on in there and it will get better by day 3/4.

3steps your arms are probably getting bigger as you are building muscle in them (I know mine are)... perhaps you should consider dropping down to 1kg but working harder on the cardio aspects and/or adding an extra cardio session on top of the workout so you are burning maximum fat?

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 23/04/2011 12:16

Hello everyone,

mind if I join you?
I am not a mum but a uni student (and former au pair, that's why I am here Wink )

I am going home in about 4 weeks and have gained a heck a lot of weight. I really don't want to go home like this somehow, for my family and friends to see. I am not happy like this myself but the thought of going to the outdoor pool every day (which we do in summer) in a bikini fills me with absolute fear. I am not naturally skinny but definitely look better 10 kg lighter!

I don't think I will be able to lose much weight in 4 weeks but if I do the shred religiously every day and maybe do some swimming in between, so you think I could get a bit fitter/skinnier/defined?
Seems like a lot of you have had great successes!

So today is my first day.

Jacksterbear · 23/04/2011 12:19

Welcome WannaBe, good luck with your 1st day! I'm sure you'll be able to get much more toned and lose some weight in 4 weeks.

I am dripping sweat all over the keyboard. Literally. Urghhhh!

JelliBelli · 23/04/2011 12:57

Morning afternoon All ,

6Week6Pack L2 D14(?) was actually not too bad todayDragon. For the first time I felt I could do it all properly and almost with in time with Bea (although I did phone it in slightly with the 2nd set of jumping jackknives [bushock]. I am due to finish the 42 days on Friday but plan to have Monday as my day off, so only have another five days to go [excited bunny emoticon]. Don't get me wrong, I was a drippy, sweaty thing (attractive!) at the end but it felt like i could do it - and I did.

I've lent out my 30DS so will try NMTZ next I think. I plan to start C25k too. OMG, what has happened to (sofa dwelling) me?!

Febes am also impressed with 2kg V raises.

Threesteps hope work on the house is going to plan. Are you sure you haven't grown muscles that you can't see (with your self critical glasses?) What does DP say? It's hard to believe that you've dropped weight (congratulations[bugrin]) everywhere else and got flabby arms [buconfused]. Mine have stayed about the same measurement but are much more solid and shapely now.

Welcome signofthetimes and Wannabe.

Signofthetimes slightly intimidated by your 8 press ups on D1 [bushock][bugrin] but we all ached too. It'll wear off in a couple of days.

Wannabe I am fairly sure someone said on an older thread that they had lost near to the advertised "20lbs in 30 days" on the packaging so it could happen to you. It didn't to me but I haven't been dieting as such. I lost 12 inches and am noticably slimmer (had comments) so I reckon if you throw yourself at 30DS you'll definitely look and feel better when you do go home. You'll ache for a few days as SignoftheTimes says but it will wear off and it'll definitely be worth it.

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 23/04/2011 13:24

Thank you both.

I just did the first workout and am absolutely dripping in sweat. I know I am not super sporty but this was intense. I had no idea I am that weak!
I had to pause it a few times to get some water.
I already hate perfect Natalie Wink

I don't think I will get rid of 20 pounds somehow but it would be nice to tone up a bit. 12 inches is incredible, JelliBelli

I am going to try and cut out some candy as well and cook a bit healthier but it's exam period here and with 8 of them coming up I feel like I often need a chocolate boost. But the need of fitting into my bikini should hopefully be a good motivation!

JelliBelli · 23/04/2011 14:50

Oh! I meant to say take a/some photo(s) if you can bear to and definitely get a tape measure and measure yourself. Most of us have found it's reassuring to see the inches disappear as the lbs don't really and it lets you know it is all worthwhile.

Good luck with the exams.

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 23/04/2011 15:28

Jellibelli, I wouldn't be intimidated by my 8 press ups as when I did it today, I managed the 8 on the first rep, but only 4 second time around. I know it will get better but every muscle group is aching! I had to do a spot of parallel parking today and the pain of looking over my shoulder was almost too much to bear. If it hadn't been the only parking space I wouldn't have bothered.

notyummy · 24/04/2011 15:13

Hello all!

Back from a weeks holiday yesterday. Managed to do BFBM and pilates whilst away because I have them on iPhone and they don't need weights. Also did LOTS of running.

This morning DH and I returned to the tender mercies of Jillian with levels 2 and 3 of the Shred back to back with 3 kg weights (apart from v raises when I had to drop down. It was hard. Still not entirely sure we have recovered! On a positive note, all the exercise is paying off as despite a week of over eating and drinking I have only put on a pound- I expected worse! I am not trying to loose weight- just to maintain.

Momentarynamechange · 24/04/2011 17:54

Notyummy, well done you on keeping diligent on your holiday, I don't think I would have been so dedicated! Hope you had a great time Smile

Thank you Jackster and Jellibelly for reassuring me. I'm really pleased with how my body has changed, apart from my bloomin' arms (and calves, but don't get me started on them lol!). Jelli the house is still a nightmare (thank you for asking Smile), but the end is in sight - 3 weeks our builder estimates (so round that up to around 5 weeks and that should be that!).

It could actually be that because the rest of me appears to have shrunk, perhaps my arms appear bigger relatively? Hmm

Anyhoo, I won't let it put me off. Got back this afternoon and did levels 1 and 3 back-to-back. Oh my goodness, that was tough!!! I need to grab the opportunities where I can though...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful easter break
Three x

Momentarynamechange · 24/04/2011 17:55

can't resist... [bugrin]

chocolateshoes · 24/04/2011 20:28

hello! I know you're all a long way ahead of me but I'd love to join. I've just done L1D6 today and managed much better - had my 1st day off yesterday so was worried it might make it harder. I've been reading all your comments as most of you seem to be so far ahead and am feeling optimistic...is there anyone who has done the 30 days without dieting and has lost weight? I really don't want to diet!!!

TooTiredToArgue · 24/04/2011 23:41

hello everyone!

Just checking in. Did 30DS L3D4 today and blimey, it's still hard work. Why are mountain climbers so much harder than squat thrusts (which aren't a walk in the park either, are they?)

I seem to go up and down on this Shred thing. I'm constantly looking at myself in the mirror for signs of change, and get immediately dispirited if I don't see any. Felt v chunky today, and a bit dispirited, but then again, I'm sure my bum is a bit less saggy.

Was slightly Shock when Jillian says in level 3 - 'oh, by now you should be starting to see signs of a six pack' i.e. if you've been following the 30DS. Not sign of one here, that's for sure.

Welcome to all you new comers. Keep at it!

febes · 24/04/2011 23:47

I did L2 D7 here and managed 2 sets of squat thrusts. I am on my second time round but still proud of myself. I only jumped in about 15cm but its a start! 3 more L2s before I can move on.

gracelesslady · 25/04/2011 10:58

morning dear shredders

am back with it!! did L1 just now, have had a week off (apart from vigorous walking every day) to let knees recover, and L1 after a rest is surprisingly doable. one grump: i am v unimpressed with jillian asserting that if you're diligent you will see change - chocolateshoes i've been shredding fairly diligently (5-7 days per week) for about 6 or 7 weeks and have seen not a jot of physical change. no inches lost, no pounds off, not really any definition anywhere so i think maybe diet does have a lot to do with it. on the non-grumpy side though, i have noticed that i am calmer if i've shredded. i have a lot to get stressed about, but things wash over me a lot more if i've taken the time for myself to do this. and i think i can't possibly look worse having shredded for 6 weeks than if i'd looked at the dvd box every day and thought no.... so am keeping at it.

have happy mondays xx

TooTiredToArgue · 25/04/2011 14:03

I have a blue exercise mat now. Feel v posh. Grin

knottyhair · 25/04/2011 14:19

Hi everyone. Did L3 again today (have been through the levels and now mix it up with other Jillian stuff). Had a week off last week with DS off and this & that, but back to it now! Did manage the jumping lunges Natalie style but I think I was a bit slower than her! Have now lost 16lbs (calorie counting as well), would like to lose another 9lbs.

chocolateshoes · 25/04/2011 14:54

You're kidding Gracelesslady!!!! That cannot be right! That is really quite depressing... Sad

BalloonSlayer · 25/04/2011 17:52

I think diet is key as well Sad

I have seen some changes in me, but the biggest ones have started to be since I started dieting as well.

Have completely undone all my good work this weekend as no shredding and lots of eating. But back to trying hard tomorrow. < salutes photo of Jillian >

Re the Mountain Climbers, I have finally worked out that you only put weight on one foot (the back one) at a time, the front foot doesn't touch the floor. That's what Natalie does. (Jillian looks as if both feet touch the floor.) It's much easier like that Wink

notyummy · 25/04/2011 17:58

I can confirm following 10 days or so of no shredding or circuit training, that doing 2 back-to-back with heavy weights, followed by Billy Blanks Bootcamp Workout this morning leaves you VERY stiff.

As you were. You Are All Doing Very Well.

TooImmature2BMum · 25/04/2011 18:38

Can I join? Did L1D1 just now - think I may die, or throw up. I must keep this up, though! Have numerous reasons.

  1. Holiday in less than 3 weeks with PIL. Currently not brave enough for bikini.
  2. Measured myself and then checked measurements against online size guides and was horrified to discover would be between a 14 and 16 in most shops. Was 10-12 (oh okay, 12 in everything except T-shirts) pre-pregnancy.
  3. (Most important reason) Recently suffered a stillbirth and am longing to try again, and must lose weight so as to be as healthy as possible before conceiving. This seemed a fast way of doing it.

So may I come on here for a bit of encouragement from other 30DS torturees?

knottyhair · 25/04/2011 19:36

Hi TooImmature2BMum. Welcome and Shredding does get easier! I'm so sorry that you suffered a stillbirth, and wish you lots and lots of luck with TTC again.

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 25/04/2011 20:35

Hi Tooimmature, I've just done D3L1. It would have been D4 but my calves were so sore after D2 I gave myself the day off and went down the beach instead. It was easier today, muscles still ached but I can do more reps, managed both full sets of anterior raises, mind you during last few I was making very unladylike noises! One thing I would say is that the warm up and cool down isn't long enough. I add a couple of minutes of marching on the spot to the warm up and some additional stretches for the cool down.

TooImmature2BMum · 25/04/2011 20:45

Thanks knotty.

Thisis, I will try to make myself cool down for longer, instead of collapsing in a heap the instant the workout finishes! Marching on the spot is a nice easy way of getting started warming up, too - good idea, I shall steal it.

What weights are you all using? I was using a couple of DH's 1.25kg weights and could barely lift my arms towards the end! The only other option is 500g bottles of water, which seemed too light.
