Hello Jillian'ers!

Sorry I've been AWOL lately. The good news is the end of decorating is in sight - by mid-week next week it should all be done Smile
Amazingly, I've been managing to fit in a Shred every evening, or at least every other evening. Have been adding weights to Level 1 cardio.

Was on one of my many tips to the trip and picked up a pair of 3 kg dumbells for £1! Used them yesterday in L3 and could manage it all apart from the shadow boxing, when I dropped back down to 2kg.

They're big though, and quite bouncy - so they bounce off my body (jumping jacks) with a boing oing oing oing... will take some getting used to methinks Grin (what must you think of me with my dumbells from the tip and my mat made of underlay!)

I'll keep on the relentless shred grind next week but will be branching out the week after to 6W6P and may even look at buying some more Killian dvds.

Hope everyone is well, keep going!

Jelli I'm not sure about the stitch. Have you left enough time after eating before you exercise? That can give me a stitch. It's all I can think of off the top of my head...

threestepsforward · 25/07/2011 15:05

Jelli, here's some info I came across on how to get rid of the stitch. The site seems to concur that a stitch is most often caused by not leaving enough time for food to digest...and also goes into types of food in quite a lot of depth...bit scientific!

"If you develop a side stitch when running, stop running and place your hand into the right side of your belly and push up while inhaling and exhaling evenly. As you run or swim, try to take even, deep breaths."

(reading back, their advice is a bit self-explanatory actually!) Stitches are a bugger, I used to get them millenia long ago when I used to run...but, funnily enough, rarely with Shred or other types of exercise...

JelliBelli · 26/07/2011 18:22

ThreeSteps thanks for the info about the stitches. I always leave AGES after food before I run so it won't be that - on Sunday I ran at 11am but hadn't eaten since dinner on Saturday night.

You inspired me to have a google though and I found out it is likely to be the ligaments from my liver to the diaphragm snagging (I am not breathing out properly) as I put my foot down with each stride. So I will follow your top tip (although i will keep running) to try to get rid of it if/when it happens again.

VenetiaLanyon · 28/07/2011 09:42

Hello all, gorgeous sunny morning here.

I tried to do the Shred without Jillian's voice today; big mistake Shock Panicked, and turned it back on quickly, to hear those tortuous yet oddly reassuring dulcet tones (Stockholm syndrome, possibly?) Do any of you Shred without Jillian?

threestepsforward · 29/07/2011 08:50

No worries Jelli

Hello everyone

My it's quiet on here!! Are we all busy Shredding/6W6P'ing etc. or have we all fallen off the wagon lol?

I was doing really well until waking up yesterday with a stinking cold, a cold? Hmm I didn't Shred yesterday and I'm not feeling at all great today but will see how I feel later, I may do if I feel any better...

[drum roll] the decorating is finished Grin I have no excuse from next week so I will get down to Jillian forms of exercise with gusto!

I caught sight of my torso in the mirror yesterday and I'm not sure I'm liking what I saw. It certainly looks as though my stomach is familiar with tummy exercises, but in my eyes it looks bulky and sort of barrel-like. I have to admit my tummy has never been a problem area, and has always been quite nice and flat and lean and I liked it. Now it looks very thick-set and seems to have definition, but in the wrong places Hmm. I know I haven't put on weight so it's obviously down to the exercises - has anyone else found this?

On the positive side, my banana arms are now looking toned, I am a happy bunny about that Smile

Have a great day everyone!

knottyhair · 31/07/2011 08:11

Morning! Have had a 2 week Jillian-free zone due to illness but am getting back in the Shred saddle this morning with a Level 1 - wish me luck...

notyummy · 31/07/2011 15:14

Hi all! This fell off 'Threads Im on' so I went hunting! Bit too much and food and drink for me because of social events. Still managing to fit plenty of exercise in though. At my parents this weekend and did a 7 mile run yesterday and a Burn Fat Boost Metabolism this morning with DH in the back garden in the sunshine - was quite pleasant in some ways! Also managed a 6W6P after work last Thursday.

WEnt camping last weekend and ate/drank FAR too much, so DH and did a double shred as recompense on our return on the MOnday. After a few late nights it felt REALLY hard!

Hope you are still all hard at it!

febes · 31/07/2011 21:16

I'm still here plugging away!
I have been alternating BFBM and NMTZs for the past few weeks and I feel so STROOONG and FIT!!! No really I do but I might go back to 6W6P and try to tackle level 2 as I haven't tried that before. I need to have a change every few weeks to keep up my motivation. I have requested a ipod shuffle thingy for my birthday so I can have a go at C210K on a pod cast. Might need some new trainers too as mine are about 10 years old.
I've lost 28kgs now!!!

knottyhair · 31/07/2011 22:05

Great weight loss Febes! And it sounds like you're doing fantastically well on a fitness level as well. I did my first Shred this morning for 2 weeks due to illness and I realised how much I've missed it! I could tell I hadn't done anything for a while though as I found it much tougher than usual. Hope to be back up there soon.

Jacksterbear · 01/08/2011 09:57

Hey all! Back from 2 weeks in France and just catching up on the thread. Sounds like you are all doing really well.

Well I managed to Shred 7x on hols which is not too bad, also managed to maintain my weight which I'm Shock about as was convinced had gained at least a few lbs from all the cheese, wine and pains au chocolat! I guess I have JM to thank for that.

Looking forward (Confused) to re-embracing the world of NMTZ and BFBM now I'm back...

knottyhair · 03/08/2011 08:07

Hi Jackster! Well done on Shredding whilst on holiday, and maintaining your weight, that's great! It does make all the difference. We're away again in a couple of weeks, and Jillian is definitely coming with us!

Going to do 4 circuits of NMTZ this morning, with a cardio circuit inbetween each one.

Jacksterbear · 03/08/2011 18:27

Hey knotty glad u are on the mend and back on the exercise wagon.

3steps re the tummy thing, everything I've read on abs exercises (have researched for purposes of post baby ab flattening!) says it's a really common error to puff your tummy out when doing abs exercise rather than pulling it in, which trains the muscles to bulge out rather than lie flat. Now I am really conscious/paranoid about that happening and try my best to suck the tummy down to the floof. Maybe this is what's happening to u?

Got to get DCs to bed then will try to face an exercise session in this sweltering heat! Just the thought is making me sweat!

threestepsforward · 03/08/2011 21:08

Evening all!

Jackster, great to hear you had a good holiday and managed to stay on track with Shredding, I'm very impressed!

Thank you for that tip re the tummy! I hadn't heard that before and I know I haven't consciously been pulling my tummy in so I will make an effort to do that now, will report on any improvements Smile

Welcome back from the land of the sick Knotty!

Hi to everyone else Smile

Having said I was going to throw myself into new Killian things this week, so far I have managed 1 level 3 Shred Blush. But...it was baking...and I did feel it was a good workout.

I have 6W6P but what are the other favourites among the Jillian devotees? Do any of the others match up to Shred in terms of results? I may get one other DVD and alternate between the 3. Not this week as I've already been slack and have a long dentist appointment tomorrow, but next week for sure (fence is beginning to buckle I've been sitting on it for so long Grin)

Ooo, had some really nice comments about arms/general appearance this weekend which was nice Smile. The torture really must be paying off...

notyummy · 03/08/2011 21:14

NMTZ done today with a mixture of 3 and 5kg weights. Was hard!!

I would recommend that as another Jillian pain fest although it is all muscle work rather than cardio. Burn Fat Boost Metabolism is also good but in a completely different way- entirely cardio based.

Jacksterbear · 03/08/2011 22:52

Argghhh. DCs only just settled. 27 degrees in their bedrooms, they were not happy bunnies. Had half a moment when I thought, I could Shred now, then realised that was INSANE. Off to bed instead. This heat is unbelievable!!

p.s. 3steps, agree with notyummy, NMTZ is my fave after the shred. Although it's strength based it definitely sends my heartrate through the roof with the exertion, so presumably that also counts as cardio?!

VenetiaLanyon · 04/08/2011 09:33

Hello all, awful fluey cold, so no shredding for 3 days here Sad. We're on hols next week, but am taking the weights (but only the 1kg - it is a holiday after all Grin)

threestepsforward · 04/08/2011 10:58

Good morning Smile

Poor you Venetia, hope you're feeling better. I came down with a cold last week and am only just recovering really - still have a bad chest so am taking it easier on the exercise front for the time being.

Thanks Yummy - in a fit of enthusiasm this morning I ordered both of those suggestions. So by the end of the week I will hopefully be the owner of Shred/6W6P/NMTZ/BFBM - using them is a whole other challenge!

Have a good day everyone

threestepsforward · 04/08/2011 20:37

Got back late afternoon from the dentist, after having my mouth and jaw hauled into unimaginable positions so he could fill one of my back teeth!

Last thing I felt up for was excercise but I hauled the underlay out from under the sofa, laid out my expanding range of dumbells and did L1 Shred with weights. Managed 3kg for some parts and 2kg for the rest...and again I was a sweaty mess by the end!

My new DVDs are 'dispatched' so next week heralds variety in exercise in the Threesteps household Smile

febes · 04/08/2011 21:15

You'll love those dvds 3steps. They are the ones I have too. My favourite is NMTZ but BFBM is great too. Start on 4 circuits and work your way up to 7 over a week or so. Its quite motivating I keep thinking I'll just do one more circuit, just one more then I'm finished!
I am a bit sick today with a sore throat but have already said I am going to do BFBM on MFP!! I know I will feel happy once I've done it but I'm having an inner battle at the moment. I think I'll get my esercise clothes on and just do a few circuits and try and trick myself into doing the lot!!!!

Jacksterbear · 05/08/2011 08:27

Haha febes I do that too with MFP!

Well done 3steps. Dentists sounds not fun, ouch!

febes · 05/08/2011 08:51

Gahhhhhh didn't exersize!! Tomorrow is another day xx

VenetiaLanyon · 05/08/2011 09:37

Blimey, sounds like we're all sick - get well soon everyone.

Am off on holiday now, so will check in when I return; in the meantime, happy shredding Grin

knottyhair · 05/08/2011 10:13

Hope everyone is feeling better, and threesteps, hope you've recovered from your Clockwork Orange experience.
Did 6W6P L1 this morning, and managed 3kg for all the moves with weights - I think that's the first time I haven't had to go back to 2kg for the 2nd go round. I really find that I "phone in" the 2nd lot of mountain climbers though - I've had enough by then!

knottyhair · 05/08/2011 10:14

And Venetia, have a fab holiday!
