welcome Tooimmature! It is getting slightly easier - have just done L1D7. Am using 3k weights apart from those last lungey things where I drop to 1.5k. I surely must be losing some weight but can't see any difference yet. Am starting to dread moving onto L2 as everyone says it is really hard

gracelesslady · 25/04/2011 21:15

chocolateshoes sorry, [bublush] that did sound very depressing. i have seen differences in my strength and capacity (see earlier posts about man pushups!!) i can use 2kg weights for most of L1 and L2 when i started with bottles of water, and i can keep up with natalie a lot of the time and i think that's pretty good for a few weeks. it's maybe because i'm not overweight - i think i imagine because i'm not, a few weeks of exercise ought to whip me into the sort of shape jillian's in which is clearly nonsense!

tooimmature hello! i'd agree that a bit more warm up, and especially cool down, is needed because the few minutes she does really is not enough. i started with water bottles, moved onto 1kg and now have 2 kgs. was thinking about getting something heavier for the chest flies in L1 - what do you more experienced shredders use??

Jacksterbear · 25/04/2011 21:22

Welcome chocshoes and tooimmature.

gracelesslady I havn't lost a single ounce of weight either Sad, after 2 weeks of shredding with no days off. Depressing isn't it? Also thinking it's time to start dieting! And gargling my heart a bit harder I guess!

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 25/04/2011 21:50

Am using 2kg weights apart from bicep curls where I can manage 2.5kg, think will move to 2.5kg on chest fly in a couple of days. There is no way I'm moving to 2.5kg on those anterior raises though.

I'm not convinced that you can lose the amount of weight advertised on the DVD cover without some serious dieting. I'm not being too careful with diet just cutting back on the odd snack and watching portion size, I'm more interested in changing shape than absolute weight loss, so will be measuring myself once a week, will be mightily pee'd off if the inches don't budge!

TooImmature2BMum · 25/04/2011 22:04

Hmph, sounds like I will have to start calorie counting seriously, then!

knottyhair · 25/04/2011 22:21

I think the weight loss promises (and seeing the 6-pack mentioned in Level 3!) is if you follow the Shred and her diet plan, which I think you have to buy her book to get. God knows what it is, but I reckon it's pretty strict!

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 25/04/2011 22:37

Yes maybe her diet plan has an audio version where she shouts at you if you make a move towards the fridge. I can't see me getting a six pack by the end of L3! Would imagine you need very low body fat for it to show (like Anita). Still hopefully I will know it's there under the layer of hopefully, reduced flab.

notyummy · 25/04/2011 22:42

I have a six pack. I do have a wobbly arse though before you all stone me!! Quite low body fat, but not in the 'athlete' category. DH has instructed me it is not too fall any lower.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2011 08:07

Jillian does say in 6W6P that you can't get rid of flab just by exercise, "that's a myth" - there has to be a diet too. Confused

notyummy · 26/04/2011 08:16

I am assuming the diet is something like they follow on The Biggest Loser maybe? I also get her emails (mixture of dodgy American motivation/psychobable, and really interesting stuff on diet and exercise.) She seems to be espousing plenty of lean protein, measured (fairly small) amount of complex carbs and low fat, low sugar. Not rocket science - basically a low GI approach.

trumpton · 26/04/2011 09:32

Ok..... Here I go.... First day today . I did the Shred this time last year and really enjoyed it. But have got lazy and am horrified at my weight... So signing in and puting the DVD on.

11st 12lb 5ft 4in.

TooTiredToArgue · 26/04/2011 11:47

morning all

Right, have shredded level 3, day 5 I think. Have reverted to Anita mountain climbers, but Balloonslayer will try with your hint tomorrow. Thanks for that. The jumping lunges still proving very difficult, as are Anita's version. I just don't think lunges and I get on really. I find them really 'intense', in Jillian's words. Any tips out there from the experts?

DS (just 3) decided to watch me today. He seemed to quite like Jillian, although said he preferred 'the one with the green apron' (confused). I think that's Nadalee. He then proceeded to use his winter scarf unrolled as his exercise mat. So sweet, and more effective than mine which has left small plasticky bits all over my freshly hoovered rug. That will teach me to get a cheapy one from Tesco.

Enjoy the sun everyone. Keep on shredding. Go on, you know you want to really! Smile

TooTiredToArgue · 26/04/2011 11:48

Oh, and welcome Trumpton. I love Trumpton (and Camberwick green). Reminds me of my childhood.

notyummy · 26/04/2011 12:05

tootired - I have been exercising for a few years and would say overall am pretty fit...HOWEVER those jumping lunges are my nemesis! I agree they are very hard. TBH the only advice I have is just to suck up the pain and think of long toned thighs as anything that unpleasant has GOT to yield results, no? Pretty much any exercise professional I have seen interviewed has always mentioned lunges as the best exercise for the legs, so I think you should stick at them, but remove the jumping if it is simply too much at the moment, and then work up to it. I guess the jumping adds the cardio element and revs up the heartbeat/fat burning bit.

Gah! I HATE them.... and I am used to lunges/walking lunges. Those jumps though....I am in bits everytime. But I do it. I just complain bitterly Grin

knottyhair · 26/04/2011 12:45

I'd rather do the jumping lunges than the bloody burpees! Did 6W6P again this morning and I just can't get on with them. When I started Shredding, I couldn't imagine doing the jumping lunges but now I don't find them too bad. But burpees.... no improvement there at all.

notyummy · 26/04/2011 12:50

Burpees - no problem! (Think it is years in the military where we had to do what was refered to as Bastard Burpees... They are normal burpees with a quick full press-up thrown in whilst you are down there and coming up to jump on to a bench. Lovely.)

Jumping lunges = pain. Maybe after doing them for years like burpees I will breeze through them.

Momentarynamechange · 26/04/2011 13:12

Afternoon Shredders!

Just my jumping lunge two-penneth worth - I do them next to a wall and keep one hand on the wall to keep myself steady. It really helps. Not sure if that negates the effect or anything, and sure Gillian would shout at me not to do it, but I'm wobbling all over the place without the wall!
I still can't do the jump both legs at the same time like Nathalie but do manage a pleasing hop into the air Grin and legs come down one after the other.

Hope everyone is having a good day...

knottyhair · 26/04/2011 13:13

I can only hope that Jillian doesn't bring out a new DVD featuring Bastard Burpees Grin.

TooTiredToArgue · 26/04/2011 17:55

Hmm, catchy title Knotty. Bound to catch on Grin

Thanks for advice re: jumping lunges. Glad to know I'm not the only one who winces at the mere thought.....

Think it might be time to purchase a new DVD from Amazon (only 5 days left to complete my shred, after all). Might have to be 6W6P. DH has announced we can go on proper holiday in August (first for a few years) so must try to get myself looking Ok in a bikini. I've got time, haven't I?

knottyhair · 26/04/2011 18:45

Course you have TooTired! 6W6P is really good. Also, if you like cardio, BFBM is good, and NMTZ is good if you prefer more strength based stuff.

TooImmature2BMum · 26/04/2011 20:06

Day 2 down! Level 1, that is. Had to stop halfway through second set of jumping jacks cos convinced had peed self, but no evidence when checked knickers so think it was my imagination Blush. Must start work harder at pelvic floor exercises!

Tried on new skirt bought from Asos.com - nude coloured maxi skirt, gauzy see-through panels over a very short underskirt to preserve modesty. I think it is actually meant to sit a lot lower (the clue is in the underskirt not quite covering my knickers at the back, and the waistband sitting 2 inches above the navel. It is meant to be high-waisted, but not by that much!) and I really need it in a bigger size, but I want to wear it to a barbecue on Friday and there isn't time to send it back and get a new one delivered. Do you think the Shred will shred me quickly enough for it to fit properly in 3 days time? The fall-back plan is to buy a bit of extra peach lining fabric and make the underskirt a bit longer until the Shred has time to work.

Must try harder with the calorie counting. Damn Easter eggs!

Jacksterbear · 26/04/2011 20:55

2immature well done on getting through day 2, and for not peeing yourself [cgrin]. Hmm skirt sounds lovely but IMHO I would not wear something that doesn't quite fit you, you'll only spend the day feeling really self-conscious and hitching it up/down etc, being paranoid your knickers are on show. I did this the other day with a dress that was just a bit too low cut and was showing off my bra, not good! Why not save it for another occasion in a few more weeks' time (just my opinion!).

(P.s. on a more serious note, re the pelvic floors, just wondering how soon post-stillbirth you are (and so sorry about that Sad) and hoping you are not overdoing it too soon - again sorry if I'm overstepping the mark.)

TooImmature2BMum · 26/04/2011 21:17

Well, I was wondering about that, Jack - I'm 6 and a bit weeks post-birth, and she was a full-term 6 lb 15 baby (41+3 weeks). I had a good delivery (the only good bit about it Sad) with no stitches or tearing or anything. I've had my 6-week doctor check up and she said my tummy muscles were back where they ought to be and cleared me for exercise. She did say to start off slowly, mind you. It's not the ab work that I find hardest, though, it's the strength.

I think with the skirt I'm going to add an extra bit to the underskirt so it is properly decent, because it is so pretty and it is ages since I had anything new and pretty! [csmile]

gracelesslady · 26/04/2011 22:15

oh 2immature big hugs for being so together so soon. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

i skived L2 today and went for a run instead, followed by some push ups (about 5 feeble version man type, and 15 more girlie ones) and a forearm plank until my whole body trembled. so far, knees ok :)

notyummy · 26/04/2011 22:21

Immature - so sorry to hear about your dd. Some of the Shred is pretty high impact for 6 weeks, however if it feels ok then just go with your body I guess. I couldn't run until about 9 weeks because of a forceps delivery and lots of stitches....every time I tried I thought everything was going to fall out. Not good.....
