OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 21/06/2011 10:00

Venetia I have noticed a very slight nagging ache in my knees since starting the Shred, and others on here have commented that their knees hurt.

Can you explain what you mean by tapping in and out of the lunges?

I imagine that the back injuries from scissor kicks are caused by people trying to do more than their stomach muscles are strong enough for, so lifting up their backs off the floor because stomach muscles aren't strong enough to hold their backs down... am I making sense?

knottyhair · 21/06/2011 10:40

Morning. Venetia, I've had a niggly knee once or twice but I find if I rest it for a day, it's OK again. I think it's really important to check your form, i.e. knees not going over the toes - difficult for me in the sumo squat position, I have to be careful. Other than that, I've just had a weak wrist a couple of times as well, but again, if I lay off the plank stuff for a day or so, it's fine. I think Jackster is right about the back injuries.

Well I did NMTZ this morning, with my new 3kg weights and it wasn't too bad! I had to revert back to 2kg for a few moves (2nd set of lunge/shoulder raise and the press-outs in circuit 1, plus the surrenders!). Am quite proud of that, although I still can't do 2 full sets of proper press-ups and I definitely "phone-in" the windshield wipers a bit Blush. Also think my form on the round kicks at the end is awful!

Jacksterbear · 21/06/2011 11:57

Ooh yes knotty I have tweaked my wrist a few times too on some of the plank moves (the up/down elbow to wrist one in particular).

Jacksterbear · 21/06/2011 11:59

Oh yes and of course let's not forget the carpet burn on that move! Grin

knottyhair · 21/06/2011 12:07

I never forget a carpet burn Grin. I also managed to donk myself on the head with the weight this morning doing the sumo squat tricep things Blush.

JelliBelli · 21/06/2011 18:23

Venetia I picked up a new injury through JMing. On the warm up to 6W6P L1 (I think) I did too much in the squats and felt a twang in my groin that has taken some weeks to recover from. It was painful to open out the knee but luckily it was ok in the forward plane so I was still Ok to run. So I did!

Am pleased to have rested and seemingly cured it but I will be cautious for a while as it was a nuisance and I don't want it back.

I'm with Jackster and Knotty re the back injuries.

LOL at knotty bashing herself with her weight, probably glancing around the room to make sure no-one saw ans then coming here to tell the world!!

TooTiredToArgue · 21/06/2011 20:44

evening all

just shredded even though I really didn't feel like it tonight. Sweat dripping off me (attractive!).

Stomach still horribly bulgy. Gah! On the plus side, woman with 6 pack who used to be in DS's swimming class (with her daughter) now no longer comes, so don't have to look at her and feel envious. Swimming pool changing rooms have pretty unflattering lighting, non?

Off to shower then lie like beached whale on sofa and watch some rubbish. Over and out Smile

knottyhair · 22/06/2011 08:46

Morning! Did an early Shred this morning - Level 1 but a different experience with 3kg weights - not for the side lunges at the end though! Used weights for the cardio as well. Sweaty heapsville.

threestepsforward · 22/06/2011 22:10

Evening Shredders and other Jillian tormentees Smile
Just checking in. By the time I've finished work, and then decorating in the evening, am cream crackered, but I've managed to do a Shred L1, 2 and 3 over the last 3 days, yay!
Will keep on rotating the levels until the house is finished, then I'll have time to really commit to the longer dvds.
Hope everyone is doing well. Well done knotty on the 3kg, that is impressive! I'm still on 2kg, and there are still some sections I can't do with those!

febes · 23/06/2011 02:16

I managed the whole of NMTZs again this morning. I used my 1kgs for circuits 1 and 4 and 2 kgs for the rest. My triceps are burning still but thats I good thing I guess!!

VenetiaLanyon · 23/06/2011 09:36

Thanks for reports on injuries, folks. I am definitely a bit sore in the knee department, and my elbows are constantly carpet burnt, but other than that not bad so far. I was doing it bare foot, but physio advised wearing trainers to lower injury risk.

Jacksterbear, with the side lunges with weights, instead of lunging from side to side, I lunge to one side, and then stay in lunge position, stepping back and forth sideways with the opposite leg as I raise the weights. I don't mind changing this one, as my form was rubbish anyway...

I have now done 38 days of shredding on the trot; wonder what the world sequential shredding record is before someone smashes their DVD with a dumbbell Wink

knottyhair · 23/06/2011 10:30

Threesteps, oh there's quite a few moves over all the DVDs that I can't do with 3kg or even 2kg! Febes, NMTZ really gets my triceps as well. Venetia, Grin at the thought of a meltdown with a dumbbell and a Jillian DVD!

I did 4 circuits of BFBM this morning. Man, I find the 6th circuit really tough! Tried to avoid too much abs work as they are really achy still from NMTZ on Weds. Did 3, 5, 6 & 7.

chocolateshoes · 23/06/2011 10:34

hello eveyone - touching base as haven't been around much - have in-laws stayin gofr a week (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) plus have pulled my hamstring. As a result am trying to do Shred in the bedroom using laptopn, doing little cardio because of leg but am trying to do extra abs instead. Can feel my cardio fitness slipping away already - went for a swim this morning and found it more tiring than usual. Grr.

Anyway PILs go tomorrow lunchtime and hopefully hamstring will be better by next week. Had planned to up my weights next week....we'll see!

Must order NMTZ - my abs are still very troubled!

febes · 23/06/2011 10:35

I think I'll do BFBM tomorrow to do some cardio after my week of NMTZs. I'll see how I go. I image I'll be gargling my heart Grin

febes · 23/06/2011 10:37

The abs in circuit 2 of NMTZs are the best abs on JM dvd that I have done.

knottyhair · 23/06/2011 10:55

Ooh yes febes, those chest fly with pike legs thingies are TOUGH! Mind you, L2 6W6P is pretty hard. Standing pikes but jumping from leg to leg anyone? And I've only ever done BFBM all the way through once and I thought I was going to die! But my friend does it all the time and loves it, she's a cardio junkie Grin. And chocolateshoes, hope your hamstring recovers soon, sounds v.painful Sad.

febes · 23/06/2011 21:15

Ha I haven't had the pleasure of L2 6W6P yet!! Sounds terrifying.

threestepsforward · 24/06/2011 08:32

Good morning people Smile
Knotty I took a leaf out of your book and attempted level 1 Shred using weights on the cardio sections - Oh. My.!! I can't believe what a difference it made to the overall workout, I was physically grunting...very loud! Managed 2 kg for the first 2 circuits and then dropped down to 1.5 for the last.

Does anyone find L1 generally a lot harder than L3?
Hope everyone has a great day, the sun is actually shining here today!

VenetiaLanyon · 24/06/2011 09:30

threesteps, I think that L1 is a lot harder on the knees than Level 3, especially with weights. I am actually contemplating dropping level 1, as my knees are a bit dodgy...

The sun is positively beaming here too; someone said 29 degrees on Sunday...let's hope (and shred early in the morning Smile)

BalloonSlayer · 24/06/2011 11:02

Yes! YES!! I think Level 1 is really hard. After the first set of cardio I have just about had it. I think Level 2 is the easiest.

Did a Level 2 today. I am pleased to brag report that I have got down to 8st 12 - which I am delighted about as my goal weight was 8st 13lb 15oz (ie anything under 9 stone).

And I managed to get my waist to measure 26" inches t'ther day as well.

All thanks to Jillian, trying a leetle bit harder not to stuff my face, and to you guys on this thread who have given me such encouragement and support.

chocolateshoes · 24/06/2011 11:43

Thnks Knotty! However had planned to erally go for it this morning as in-lws leaving (phew!) and was running up the slope in our garden as we were late for school and hammy went again! So fed up! So again have replaced most cardio with abs this morning. And haven't been able to go to Zumba either.

Am also v fed up cos I ordered a dress form Great Plains and it is too tight! Sob!

Well done Balloon - that is brilliant news!

chocolateshoes · 24/06/2011 11:45

There! Done it - ordered NMTZ.

threestepsforward · 24/06/2011 11:49

Balloon, congratulations you svelte lady you Grin. That is really a fantastic result, bet you look great!

Chocolateshoes so sorry to hear about the hammy...is it just a case of rest rest rest now until it heals? I've not done myself a mischief there before, but have done my ankles before and that's taken an annoying amount of time to get better again...

notyummy · 24/06/2011 13:01

Well done Balloon! Great stuff.

Sorry to hear about the injury Choc.

chocolateshoes · 24/06/2011 14:00

Yes 3Steps I need to rest it - although have been doing so for the last week which is why I was so keen to get back into Shred properly today. Oh well. Have been for a swim now so hopefully that will have helped.
