Oh please may I join? I shredded quite successfully back in February/March before a holiday but have been pretty awful at it since getting back in May. And I now feel so unfit and wobbly, and clothes too tight! I'm in despair . . . so I really need people to get me in line and shredding everyday (or nearly everyday Wink).

JelliBelli · 24/06/2011 22:56

Balloon huge congratulations! How much did you weight when you started the torture exercise routines? If you don't mind me asking? Are you very tall?

I am just at 9st 1lb at the moment and am still losing a bit less than 0.5lb per week so I am hoping it won't be toooo long before I can join you at under 9stone. I am just starting NMTZ as well (after 'just' doing the running for c25k) so perhaps it will shift a little swifter now I am doing both. I was hoping for more to melt from my bust but it's my hips that are shrinking Confused. Why is life just like that as I know someone will be reading this whilst watching their bust shrink instead of their hips!!!!

Choccy I hope your hamstring is much better quickly - remember not to rush it.

StClair hello! Hope to hear you've got back with Jillian over the weekend. Go on! You know you want to really and you know you feel SO much better once you've done it....

Jacksterbear · 25/06/2011 13:22

Jelli yes yes I am that person watching my poor boobs disappear when I really want my hips and thighs to go!!

Welcome StClair.

Did L2 shred earlier. Still as tough as ever!

BalloonSlayer · 25/06/2011 19:49

I was about 9st 5lb, Jellibelli. I am 5'4" tall.

I would have joined the 'Around 5'4" and trying to lose about 5lb' thread but I had almost managed it by the time it got started.

I am 46 so I don't want to be too skinny but but but I keep thinking "well wouldn't it nice to get a bit lower. . . " Don't worry, there is no chance of me overdoing it!

Shame you are not losing from where you want to, but be comforted from being spared the drooping you get when they get smaller. I am for the first time in my life having to lift 'em up to dry underneath when I've had a bath. However, they're not bad for my age and more than seven years breastfeeding so mustn't grumble. Grin

JelliBelli · 25/06/2011 22:28

Thanks for the information Balloon.

I did briefly join the 'Around 5'4" and trying to lose about 5lb' thread but it wasn't overly supportive so I stuck to this one and the C25K thread as they are more what I need.

I started my new lifestyle in January at 10st 3lbs so I am doing quite well. I shouldn't really moan as I have lost 4 inches from my bust so far so it is moving - it just feels slower than the hip loss (which is also 4 inches - perhaps I am just mad!!). I think it frustrates me as it was a major motivator for me to be able to buy regular sized, reasonably priced, pretty, non scaffold type bras from the (my local) high street. I am not there yet and I feel great so far. I just wish i could find those bras!!! Grin

knottyhair · 26/06/2011 10:11

Hi stclair! Hope you enjoy getting back into the Shred! Balloon, that's amazing!

Just done L2 6W6P, with the intention of using 3kg weights but I only managed them for the first go round, and the 1st couple of moves in the 2nd go round! It's already so humid here, I am a pool of sweat and need a shower before I start "marinating in what I've done" as Jillian so charmingly puts it.

notyummy · 26/06/2011 10:35

NMTZ done this AM with a mixture of 3 and 5kg weights. Twas hard- especially after a yoga/pilates session yesterday that was quite hard on the core.

febes · 26/06/2011 10:41

What a legend notyummy! I do 1kgs on circuit 1 and 4 and 2kgs for the rest. I love it though and am looking forward to another go tomorrow.

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 26/06/2011 10:45

Hi Ladies, haven't been on here for a while, the short story is that I have been having a few health problems, not Jillian induced I hasten to add, but am on the way to recovery and will be back on the shred in a couple of weeks. I can't wait as I can feel my muscles turning to flab as I sit here. all your continued progress inspires though.

JelliBelli · 26/06/2011 14:12

Hi Thisis, I am sorry to hear you've been suffering. I hope you have a swift recovery now and that you are back with the otorture sessions soon. Wink

I'm after some advice. DD(15) has decided that she is doing NMTZ and is currently suffering from the achiness that beginning the programme brings Smile. She is going to do as Jillian says and do the DVD 5x per week but we don't know how long she should do it for. I have suggested 3 weeks and then move on to something else. She does the whole DVD each time. (I have lent out my shred otherwise she would have started with that.)

Any suggestions? What have you all done?

I am using it on 4x per week on my non-running days as it is fairly new and I don't 'know it' yet but only do some circuits and I use it differently to her.

Thanks

VenetiaLanyon · 27/06/2011 09:43

Mornin' all.

Worra scortcha Grin. This kind of weather is where my 6.30am shreds pay off. Have pulled something on / just below shoulder blade at the mo, so can't do the jumping jacks arm raises, or oblique twists properly, but still trying to blast through everything else.

Still can't do some of the Nadalee moves on Level 3; e.g. the one where you row each arm up, and then kick opposite leg out at back - there is no way I'm anywhere near there....

Welcome to the torturedome, StClair.

Jelli, Jackster; my previously DD cup boobs are now looking like deflated balloons, whilst my tummy and backside still loom large - thanks Jillian Hmm

notyummy and knotty, I am over-awed by your use of heavy weights; I keep trying the 2kg and then reverting to 1kg again...

knottyhair · 27/06/2011 10:02

Thisis, hope you recover soon. JelliBelli, I'm not really much help re: how long to do NMTZ for. I basically did the Shred, then got Jillian's other DVDs and now I just mix it up, doing something 6 days out of 7. Venetia, I think a 6.30 Shred is a good idea on days like this. I didn't start mine until 9.15 this morning and "sweaty" doesn't really cover it. And blimey don't be over-awed by me and weights. I did a Level 2 this morning and only managed one move with the 3kg, and even had to go back to 1.5kg for the 2nd set of v-raise horrors. Notyummy is in a different league!

notyummy · 27/06/2011 10:04

Jelli - 3 weeks sounds sensible. It depends what weights she is using etc. Perhaps 3 days, then a day off, and then 2 days, so she spreads it across the week? She could try gradually increasing the weight as the 3 week period goes on - although not too much as body still maturing at that age.

It depends what kind of thing she feels she needs. For all round fitness she is probably best moving onto something that gives her a cardio workout, as NMTZ not quite as good for that. Either running or, or Burn Fat Boost Metabolism would do the trick.

stclair · 27/06/2011 14:16

Pleased to announce have just shredded, with the fan blasting at me from the coffee table for a bit of comfort! I did level one again just for a bit of fun and forgot how painful all those quad exercises can be. Was busily punching away when I spotted a neighbour sunbathing on his roof (in his underwear I might add) watching me. Peering as close as he dared from the edge of the roof for a better look even. Oh the mortification!

Jacksterbear · 27/06/2011 16:52

Well done stclair. And I bet he was more embarrassed than you at being caught perving in his underwear! Grin

DrSocks · 27/06/2011 17:07

Sorry for crashing your thread ladies... I have lurked for some time on various JM threads but now need your advice on what to do next. I did 30ds, and have now been doing L2 of 6w6p for about 5 weeks (having done 3w of L1). Still no six pack but I'm pretty sure that is more to do with cake than anything else. My question is, where to now? Do I go for NMTZ or BFBM? I gather they are both the same length, but is one more repetitive than the other? I'm not a massive fan of things that are tough on the old knees, and am more keen to work on my abs and arms than my bum/thighs. Any advice appreciated...

knottyhair · 27/06/2011 17:36

Hi Dr Socks! BFBM and NMTZ both follow the same format, i.e. 7 x 6 min circuits each one doing 2 sets of the same exercises, but BFBM is cardio (no weights at all), and NMTZ is more strength stuff although the warm-up is mainly cardio and you still definitely work up a sweat! (or I do anyway!). I've only ever done BFBM all the way through once and I thought I was going to die, but I'm not overly keen on loads of cardio. I tend to do 4 circuits of it about once a week. I do NMTZ all the way through and really like it, but sometimes I do 4 circuits of this, interspersed with 3 x 2 min of cardio a la Shred (I just pause the DVD and set the kitchen timer). They both include ab work and squats etc. but obviously NMTZ would be better for arms I guess as it includes weights. But I'd say get both! HTH.

Jacksterbear · 27/06/2011 18:08

Drsocks i agree with knotty get both: they complement each other and neither is really a rounded workout on its own.

DrSocks · 27/06/2011 20:27

Thanks knotty & jackster... looks like both of them it is then! I shall report back with progress.

chocolateshoes · 27/06/2011 20:34

evening! My copy of NMTZ arrived today so have tried out 3 of the circuits - mainly abs and core because of my hamstring trouble. The abs were good and at one stage felt really quite sick so I guess that's a good thing!! Used 3k weights. I prefer Natalie & Anita though!!!!

JelliBelli · 27/06/2011 22:37

Thanks for the thoughts re DD. She is running on her non NMTZ days to up her cardio a bit. I think i will order BFBM anyway to complete the set as I suspect she'll/we'll use it.

Not much from me today as I just did 3 circuits NMTZ before work, as I just couldn't get myself out of bed in time to do more!! Blush So I have officially 'phoned it in' today Shock. Still 3 mile run tomorrow to make up for it!!!

DD finished her last exams today too so a relaxed Jelli household tonight after some weeks of angst. And breathe.......

conquita · 28/06/2011 07:34

Hi everyone - I am back. I did level one 30DS today for the first time in 6 weeks. The hardest part was lifting weights and pushups. I have put on 2.5 kilos since I left for my trip so am back on it! I am doing couch to 5k Mon/Weds/Fri and shredding on the days inbetween. I have gotta say, it was great doing level one again, it is my favourite and I really felt I had worked out. I LOVE Jillian! It's great to be back here Grin

knottyhair · 28/06/2011 08:04

chocolateshoes, not surprised you felt sick doing any exercise in the heat of yesterday! I certainly felt "odd" shredding yesterday. Jelli, aah, I remember that "end of exams" feeling (just about!). conquita, hi! I still really like L1 as well, I do it with heavier weights now and use weights in the cardio sections.
I'm going to do 4 sections of NMTZ with 3 cardio intervals, after the school run. I'm just having my first breakfast from Jillian's recipe book and it's lovely! Wholemeal toast, spread with a mixture of soft goats cheese & fat free greek yoghurt, and then topped with raspberries & honey.

VenetiaLanyon · 28/06/2011 09:39

ooh, knottyhair, is the recipe book good? What kind of things does she want you to eat? I am just doign MFP at the moment, but would be good to have some inspiration, as am in a bit of a cottage cheese rut Hmm

Still have a shoulder injury here, but did Level 1 shred with 1kg weights without moving my arms much; harder than it sounds....

knottyhair · 28/06/2011 10:26

Hi Venetia! Haven't managed to read all the way through the book yet, but so far it's looking good! I did also buy some American cups as all the measurements use these. She basically doesn't include much red meat (although there is some), and there's a lot of fat-free greek yoghurt etc. but I quite like that! She does use "turkey bacon" in a few recipes which isn't something I'd buy, so I probably won't do those recipes. It's not all "holier than thou" IYKWIM. Breakfast ideas include oatmeal chocolate chip muffins, there are loads of soup and salad ideas, but I've only just started looking at the main meals but so far mediterranean lamb burgers and tandoori turkey kebabs have caught my eye! There is a dessert section as well with almond chocolate blondies, chocolate-cinnamon frozen banana pops, fudge brownies.... Think I need to go and have another read! Hope your shoulder gets better soon. I managed to do something to my knee this morning on the school run, running back to the house for a forgotten lunchbag - what a twat. So had to do a scaled down 4 circuits of NMTZ with no cardio or squats or lunges. Not a happy bunny but hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.
