No room at the part two inn - so here goes part 3!!

6W6P level 1 day 8 done...
... And I still hate burpees!

OP posts:
knottyhair · 16/06/2011 09:26

Did L2 6W6P early this morning. I think the worst bit is during the cool-down when Jillian says that this is the time to "marinate in what you've just done". I don't really want to hear that when I'm sitting there in a puddle of sweat.

threestepsforward · 16/06/2011 09:29

Morning all and congratulations notyummy outrunning all the mummies!
Didn't manage to do any exercise yesterday - work/life getting in the way bla bla
Hoping to squeeze in a Shred today if work / decorating let me!
Tootired dog reacted awfully to the anti-inflammatories Sad (he's got a really tricky digestive system, which reacts horrifically to anything he's not used to) so back to the vet tonight, this time to try an injection.
have a great day everyone Smile

threestepsforward · 16/06/2011 09:31

knotty Grin - does she really say marinate lol?
I never hear anything she says at the end, I must listen out for that one!!

VenetiaLanyon · 16/06/2011 09:57

Sorry to hear about your dog, threesteps. Hopefully the injection will work. And congrats on barefoot triumph, notyummy; bet yo'd have won in trainers Wink

Day 1 of L1 Shred again, this time with full Nadalee push ups, wieghts with cardio, and upping to 2kg weights for some (not all!) of the exercises. Have decided that I will do 123,123,123 etc, until I lose weight, or perish in the attempt Shock. And may try a new DVD at the weekend

notyummy · 16/06/2011 10:06

Good work Venetia!

Knotty - that bit also makes me laugh! She has a few odd sayings....

Stuck at home with a poorly daughter and had to cancel a load of meetings at work. This is when the whole 'working with a DH that is away nearly all the time' proves a challenge. My job is one that most people at my level are the main wage earner IFYSWIM, so I feel really conscious of the occasions when I have to ring in over issues like this, as I feel that others usually have their DPs to do the childcare. Except mine isn't here. Grr. Not very Shred related....sorry.

Anyhow, the point I was trying to make is that I am trying to do a 'silver lining' approach by seeing if I can fit in some exercise today whilst DD watches films on the sofa. I wasn't going to have time for any if I had to go to work, so that has to be a good thing, no?

threestepsforward · 17/06/2011 10:55

Good morning all

notyummy I sympathise with the work situation. Hope DD is feeling better. I also went off-topic about DD (dear dog) Blush

Did L3 last night after painting and the vet. Might be able to something else tonight and then am away for a hen weekend tomorrow. The theme is 70s so am dusting off a pair of flares I have at the bottom of my drawer. (Also have the most fantastic afro wig). Theme could have been a LOT worse so feel quite relieved about that!

Horrid rainy day here - stay dry everyone Smile

VenetiaLanyon · 17/06/2011 11:09

Hello all

Notyummy, am in same situation as you workwise - tough, isn't it? DD has been off nursery a lot, but luckily my mother is often able to help out, or I don't know what we'd have done.

Did L1 yesterday and L2 today, but with heavier weights, weights for cardio and moves a la Nadalee. Was hoping that L1 would seem like a piece of cake (or Dear Jillian's cakewalk), but it really didn't.

Worst one for me of whole shred is the side lunges with weights; my form is awful. Couldn't use the heavier weights for both reps of some of more difficult moves, but one day (maybe)....

TooTiredToArgue · 17/06/2011 12:54

Hey ladies

Managed to fit in Shred L1 this morning. Had forgotten how tough it was. Definitely no cake walk for me! Think I'm still suffering the effects of a late 6w6P session last night, so I have to admit to phoning it in slightly. Blush

My arms feel particularly feeble this morning and we have another in-service day, so 2 arguing siblings to entertain.... Ho hum. Better go and check on them before it escalates into screaming.

P.S. Venetia my form on the side lunges pretty rubbish too. Jillian et al make it look so easy....

knottyhair · 17/06/2011 13:02

I find the side lunges with the front raise things (Level 1) OK now although it took me a while to get them (really stick your bum back!). But she does a similar move in NMTZ I think, but you do a bicep curl instead and I really can't get it! I look like Vegas era Elvis when I try to do them.

JelliBelli · 20/06/2011 08:18

I'm back with the programme again. Gulp!

I have completed the C25K now (and can run 3 miles!). I plan to continue to run 3x week and shred/JM on 3 of the other days, giving myself a day off before my 'big' Sunday run.

I started with some NMTZ this morning and after the long slogs of running - seemed to be over in a flash. That was the good news but I was surprised at the amount of strength i had lost in my body from not doing JMing for several weeks. At least i know I just have to do the DVDs to get it back so I am not too fazed (sp?).

Hope you all had a good weekend.

knottyhair · 20/06/2011 10:15

Did Level 3 shred this morning with 2kg weights, but held my 2kg & 1.5kg together for the dumbbell cleans. Still can't manage a whole set of jumping lunges and my knees still hate the rock star jumps, so I did jumping jacks/butt kicks with weights instead. And my 3kg weights have just arrived ready for tomorrow's NMTZ - eek!

knottyhair · 20/06/2011 10:16

Missed that JelliBelli, well done on doing C25K .

VenetiaLanyon · 20/06/2011 10:27

Well done Jelli Belli; the better upper body strength bit is what I notice most after a month with Jillian. I was quite surprised, as I thought that lugging a heavy child around would have helped me have strength anyway, but clearly not. And there is less lugging, I guess, as she gets older..

V impressed, knottyhair; I am trying to move up to 2kg weights, but can only manage one rep (and sometimes not even one rep), and then revert thankfully to 1kg

Jacksterbear · 20/06/2011 11:31

Nice one Jelli.

Me too Venetia - thought my arms must be pretty strong from the amount of child carrying plus the child-related paraphernalia I lug around with me but they weren't. They are (slightly) more so now though.

Just done circuits 1,2,3,4 and 7 of NMTZ, with 2kg weights. And was nearly crying by the end of it. SOOOOO hard! Surely it should be getting easier by now??!!! Does anyone else find circuit 1 a complete killer?!

knotty - NMTZ with 3kg weights?! - Crikey.

knottyhair · 20/06/2011 11:58

Jackster, I'm going to try tomorrow, just to see how much I can do with 3kg. I'm not saying I'll manage any Grin! I think circuit 3 will be OK with 3kg but not sure about the rest, I'll let you know how it goes Smile. And you're right, the first circuit is hard. I find the 4th one quite tough as well, I start it off thinking "oh yeah, triceps, that's OK" but certainly the second time round I'm not thinking that anymore! Also the bicycle crunches in circuit 2, I find them quite easy in the Shred but after the other stuff, they kill me in this Blush.

TooTiredToArgue · 20/06/2011 14:28

Hello all

I'm another of those who thought lugging around a lazy 3 year old would make me a lot stronger than I actually am. However, having said that, I have recently developed muscles on the outside of my upper arms (is that the tricep? ). I'm sure these have appeared since I upped my weights to 2kg.

I'm still not getting on with 6w6p, so am tempted to try BFBM. I'm worried I'll start to get bored soon and will fall off the band wagon. Maybe I should try jogging too. Jelli welcome back! Have you found the jogging has had good results on your (shredded) body? Maybe that would shift some of my stomach flab....

BalloonSlayer · 20/06/2011 17:26

Just thought I'd check in.

Did a 6W6P (L1 of course) today after a weekend of stuffing my face. Feel virtuous but knackered. The experience was aided by there being something wrong with the telly. Jillian was BLUE. Grin No joke - it was like something off Star Trek. I kept expecting her to say: "So what eeez this thing you humans call luurve, Captain Kirk? I do not understand?"

I am promising myself to get back into it all this week and to try BFBM, which arrived a couple of weeks ago but I have felt too out of condition to start something new.

This.
Will.
Change.

Yes it will.

Jacksterbear · 20/06/2011 17:50

rofl Balloon Grin

notyummy · 20/06/2011 18:18

Toottired - sounds like the triceps! I have them too. You CAN increase the weights, I know you can!

I haven't been Jillianed since last Tuesday!! Although since then I have done 2 runs, an hour of pilates, an hour on a hill programme on the crosstrainer, and Billy Blanks Bootcamp. So not exactly slacking.

L2 6W6P on wednesday. Rest day tomorrow.

febes · 20/06/2011 21:46

I tried NMTZ for the first time on Sunday and have had a go at the whole thing over 2 days. Circuits 1-4 on Sun and 5-7 on Monday. I really liked the abs circuit it really burned in the right place. The triceps one is a killer especially those surrenders. I had to go back to 1kgs for some of the circuits but hopefully I'll move up soon. My muscles are nicely aching so its good to have a change. I was 3 weeks into 6W6P so it was either L2 of that or NMTZ. I think I'll do them both through the week depending how much time and how I feel.

JelliBelli · 20/06/2011 23:03

My upper body strength was pretty non existant before The Shred as I hadn't lugged the DCs (15,14) around for some time. I have lost some of my strength from not JMing at all for a few weeks and could really feel it this morning. I am beginning to ache tonight too, I notice, in my glutes and quads.

I only did 3 circuits of NMTZ and I can't remember which ones they were either. I will have to take note of which ones I select next time.

I can't remember how to change the colour on my old TV so in my bedroom Jillian is orange and definitely looks like she's been swimming in fake tan!

Balloon! get thee to a TV set with your DVD now!!! Or tomorrow. You won't get anymore in condition just looking at Jillian on the cover will you? Come on - you know you want to......

Tootired the running has melted a bit more fat off my body (approx another inch from each of bust, waist and hips) and has smoothed things out iykwim? I am not 'lumpy' any more. I have lost flab around my shoulders and armpits. DH says I have lost more from my back (boak!) too.

notyummy · 21/06/2011 08:06

Those of you just starting NMTZ, it is really isn't that hard to do the whole thing - not as hard as 2 shreds back to back IFYSWIM. Worth trying, as it is quite achieveable. I think the earlier circuits are the harder ones, so you also have the relief of knowing that it gets easier as time goes on!

Well done on the running Jelli - it will be 10K next!

febes · 21/06/2011 08:31

Glad you said that Notyummy I did the whole of NMTZs today and really enjoyed it but am sore now. Will do it again tomorrow unless I'm working. I love it!!

VenetiaLanyon · 21/06/2011 09:34

Hello all,

Was wondering whether any of you have injured yourself at all courtesy of Jillian? I have been fine so far, but saw the physio yesterday (have various dodgy body parts), and she recommended that I keep my legs half way up for the scissor kicks, as she's seen a lot of lower back injuries through this move. She's also recommended that I tap in and out of the side lunges with weights, rather than lunging on dodgy knees.

I have actually been very relieved that the Shred hasn't seemed injurious, but wondered whether I'd just been lucky so far....?

Happy Midsummer's Day Smile

notyummy · 21/06/2011 09:48

I haven't Venetia, but I had a reasonable level of fitness to start with. I think there is a danger of really unfit or heavily overweight people hurting their knees, given the make up of a lot of the exercises. That said, in the long term there are a lot more life-threatening risks attached to being overweight, so that doesn't mean they shouldn't be doing it. (Or as Jillian says 'I have 400lb people who do jumping jacks, so can YOU!'

Some of the stuff she has BIG people on The Biggest Loser doing is amazing. They start off being unable to walk a mile, but after a couple of sessions with her they realise they can (and will - through sheer terror Grin puch through the pain barrier and keep going to do all sorts of exercises.
