Please can I join? Have been lurking for a while, have finally bitten the bullet after not shredding for a year! Have just done L1D2 had forgotten how tough 30DS really is.
Will use this thread as my motivation to keep going.

knottyhair · 27/05/2011 10:45

Hi CoffeeMad! notyummy, it's sickening isn't it when your kids show you up like that?? My DS aged 7 sometimes joins in and whips through the really tough strength stuff whilst critiquing my technique. gracelesslady, you're right about the lack of tricep stuff. There is a bit on NMTZ if you haven't got it.

VenetiaLanyon · 27/05/2011 11:39

Hi folks, 10 days of L1 shred completed, and just done my first L2; good grief! It nearly killed me! Come back level 1, all is forgiven...

PS can anyone do the ones where you lie on your back with weights and lift your legs up? There is no way that this will ever get done a la Natalie by me...

flatmouse · 27/05/2011 13:05

Ahem Blush, now i've turned 40 (thanks for all the bday wishes a few pages ago!) i just can't seem to get the enthusiasm together to get on with shredding! (and am eating rubbish and drinking during week again - oops).
Next week we're on hols, so i plan to return in style commencing 6th June. I will !
Got Wii Zumba for my birthday so a fun keep fit treat to do after shredding :)
Must get back out running again!

hello all - friday again!
Got my 2kg weights. They felt blardy heavy on the way home, so hope I can manage them. Might go back to L1 tonight just for a change. Have memories of lots of jumping jacks and press ups, and not much else.

Oh, and on the matter of press ups, I am pleased to announce that I can now do proper ones! Not many, admittedly, but there was a day, not so long ago, when I thought I never would. So I must be making progress.

Venetia I feel your pain. I hated Level 2 with a passion...... Torture.....

notyummy · 27/05/2011 13:39

Venetia - step from level 1 to 2 is hard.

Today I ran a half marathon. Just decided to do it...and I did. 1 hr 44 minutes, which I am happy with. Legs tired now so only pilates for tomorrow I think. Will be back to the tender mercies of Jillian on Sunday though!

knottyhair · 27/05/2011 14:49

Venetia, I'd agree, going from L1 to L2 is hard, much harder than the progression from L2 to L3 so take heart! And notyummy, I love that you "just decided" to run a half marathon Shock! And in a great time!

VenetiaLanyon · 27/05/2011 14:54

9 more days....gulp...Grin

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 27/05/2011 17:43

tootired, well done on the press ups and lugging your new weights home. that reminds me of the time I went to argos to get a set of dumbbells, I ended getting the ones where you add weights to them to make heavier weights. I didn't think about the fact that I would have to get them from the shop to the car, about half a mile. The total weight was about 30kgs. I had to keep stopping to put them down and get my, built like a stick insect daughter aged 10, to help me. I made my arms and shoulders so sore I couldn't use them for nearly a week!

threestepsforward · 27/05/2011 18:07

tooimmature I find that too, it's mainly strength sections that I can feel myself thinking I can't actually do any more. Cardio I can usually manage to puff my way through.

L3 done and dusted for today. I don't know what came over me, but I double jump roped, rock star'ed and jumping lunged like a woman possessed! So Jillian, I most definitely did not phone it in today Grin

Thank god it's Friday! Hope everyone has a great weekend Smile

TooTiredToArgue · 27/05/2011 18:13

Thanks, signofthetimes. I have to admit, I let the buggy take the strain, iykwim Wink

Just started my first Wine of the week, and it's going straight to my head. Will I be able to shred in 15 mins, when DH does bathtime????

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 27/05/2011 19:42

tootired, ah I miss the buggy! There were many a time when I turfed daughter out made her walk for her own good so I could get the shopping home.

hope alcohol hasn't prevented you from shredding!

fearnelinen · 27/05/2011 22:44

L1D5 complete - after just 3 hours sleep. Doing it before anything else is EXCELLENT although I have to confess I just went back to sleep this morning after DH went to work! I was all sweaty and eugh!
That said though, I am LOVING this! Am I wierd?! It's just 20 minutes and I am definately feeling a difference already.
Also, I came on today with no pre-menstrual cramping at all in the run up, this can't be a coincidence. JM is a tortuous genius!

TooTiredToArgue · 28/05/2011 09:01

morning all

Managed my shred last night with 2kg weights, and blimey, it was tough. Makes you realise that I really was phoning it in with my 1kg weights before (and before that tins of soup!). The last strength exercise where you are meant to bring your hands/weights level with your eyes was a bit of a joke, to be honest.

Looking in the mirror this morning could it actually be that my flabby slightly undulating stomach looks slightly less rotund? Or is it just wishful thinking/breathing in? Hard to tell. Confused

knottyhair · 28/05/2011 10:08

Morning. Just done a Level 2 Shred - still really don't like it and find it really hard. I've gone right through the levels, and now do a mixture of Shreds, and Jillian's other DVDs and I really find L2 Shred (along with my pathetic attempt at L2 6W6P Blush), the hardest things she does, for me anyhoo. I think there are odd moves in the other routines that I don't like much but practically all of L2 Shred I don't like! Got to make myself do it sometimes though. I use 2kg weights still and can't imagine going up to 3kg for that workout. Rant over.

notyummy · 28/05/2011 10:14

What level were you doing Tootired? If it is level 2 then those squats and v raises are a killer and I would struggle with 2 kg for that.

knottyhair · 28/05/2011 10:17

Same here notyummy, I have to go back to 1.5kg for those things. Makes me feel better that you would struggle with 2kg for them Smile!

threestepsforward · 28/05/2011 10:40

Morning Shredders and general JM addicts!

Another L2 hater here! I really struggle to do those V raises with 2 kg all the way through, often swap down to 1.5 kg at the end.

Not that I am in any way shunning the great lady that is JM, but was having a browse of Billy Blanks DVDs on Amazon. Has anyone done Billy Blanks stuff? And what did they think?

Is there a DVD that is comparable to Shred in terms of results and combination of strength / cardio / abs? (and comparable in terms of length, 20 mins is such a good slice of time for me in terms of fitting it in each day!).

Just musing really, work on house finishing soon and will have more space to work out.

Don't think I'll be able to Shred today but will get back to it tomorrow Smile

knottyhair · 28/05/2011 10:46

I've got some Billy Blanks stuff - it's OK, I do it occasionally if I fancy a change, but much prefer Jillian, and to be honest, Billy Blanks stuff feels like a bit of a "cakewalk" compared to Jillian! Mind you, I've got the Tae Bo Ultimate collection, and I've only done 2 of the routines so maybe there's a more difficult one on there? I just haven't really found anything that compares to Jillian in terms of making you work so hard but in a manageable amount of time.

threestepsforward · 28/05/2011 10:54

Thanks Knotty Smile
Hmm, I don't want to get anything that doesn't match up to JM so perhaps I'll think about upping weights with her stuff, and doing more back to back levels (which I've found really tough!).
Could wear 1.5 wrist weights and hold my 2kg weights to up them. Already do that for the strength bit before the jumping lunges on level 3.
I am officially a Shred nerd Grin
Off to walk the dog who I can see looking at me mutinously out the corner of my eye!
Thanks again

TooTiredToArgue · 28/05/2011 11:02

Sorry to disappoint, fellow shreddees, but it was Level 1 I was struggling with. Blush and double Blush. Just done L3 (too scared to try L2 again) with my 2kg weights, though had to swap back to my old faithfuls for some of the cardio. Still struggling with those blimming jumping lunges too.

Now feel like I've been run over by a bus. DH has taken DC out so I have an hour or so to recover do some housework.

Have I mentioned before my cheapo exercise mat from Tesco that sheds blue plastic bits all over my rug? Talk about false economy.

Have a good day shredders. Smile

TooImmature2BMum · 28/05/2011 11:40

I am in awe of those of you using 2kg weights! I am using 1.25kg ones and struggle! At what point did you up your weights? I am on L1D6 (or I will be when I get off the laptop and actually get started) - did you do one complete 30 day cycle before changing the weights, or what?

notyummy · 28/05/2011 13:05

Billy Blanks Bootcamp is the equivalent to a Shred (or two!). Definitely. You will feel the burn.....

knottyhair · 28/05/2011 13:17

Ooh, might have to get that one! How long is it notyummy?

gracelesslady · 28/05/2011 14:04

am currently resuscitating myself with strong coffee and toast. last night at work last night - got home at 9am and am now on holiday for two weeks!! :o i plan to shred every day and will be a goddess by the time i go back Wink

tooimmature - i just bought some heavier weights and added them in for things where my 1kg ones felt like nothing (the chest flies in L1 spring to mind) and i like having the option to go down a kg if i feel i need it. sometimes i do the first circuit of something with 2kgs and then switch to 1 kg to finish the second. (because if i didn't i wouldn't manage a second round!!)

right. need a shower and stuff...
