Does anyone else have carpet burn on their elbows from shred L3??!!!

Hope everyone that's been feeling crap feels better soon. x

gracelesslady · 02/05/2011 11:34

morning all
did L3 for the first time yesterday, found it ok actually, not nearly as bad as the sobbing heap i am after L2 but today have loads of pain around my ribs - think those walking push ups may be to blame. am going to have a day off today as was reading a British Military Fitness thing (my sister does it) about how the change happens in your body while it's repairing itself - exercise causes tears etc in the muscle, the healing is what causes it to get bigger and stronger. not sure what scary jillian's take on that would be if she really recommends 30 days without a break. will prob do some yoga to stretch everything later.

happy mondays! :)

xx

So long as it's from the Shred, Jack! Grin

Monday morning measurements and weigh-in: I have lost a grand total of (drumroll, please!) 4.5 inches in one week!! That's 2 whole inches off my bust, 1.5 off my waist and 0.5 off each thigh. None off my hips, alas. My weight is exactly the same as it was last Monday, although it went up 3lbs in the middle of the week and then down again. I knew my boobs were shrinking because I got a new bra and I'm a 34E now instead of 34FF, but that's probably partly hormones dying down post-pregnancy and not all Shred. Also, I tried on my pre-pregnancy jeans and they just about fit - a bit tighter than they were and with a bit of muffin-top, but not nearly as much muffin top as there was a couple of weeks ago. I was so pleased I promptly wore them for a long walk and they weren't uncomfortable. Still wouldn't wear them in public, though.

Oops, must get hoovering - sent DH food shopping by promising to make a start on the housework, and have spent the last half hour measuring myself and boasting posting about it here instead!

Jacksterbear · 02/05/2011 11:50

LOL 2immature it does look suspiciously like I have been up to something naughty! Grin Well done on the measurements.

notyummy · 02/05/2011 12:55

Well done TooImmature!!

Just back from 5 mile run - felt good. Well, after how I felt yesterday, anything feels good Grin.

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 02/05/2011 14:34

tooimmature, brilliant result. certainly motivates to carry on- well done!
I am contemplating doing level 1 and 2 back to back today. If I'm not on this thread again it's because I attempted it and died.

gracelesslady · 02/05/2011 14:43

well done tooimmature!!!

thisis please report back so we know you're ok Wink

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 02/05/2011 15:57

Well that was interesting! L1 easy, even managed a full set of proper press ups, I didn't on 2nd set but it's progress, but then I was knocked off my perch well and truly. I did do the whole of L2 but my gawd, I had to take a couple of breathers during the squat thrusts and by the end my sweat had sweat. I don't think it's something I 'll want to do every day, I'll save it for when I have more time, I wonder how I'm going to feel tomorrow :o

notyummy · 02/05/2011 17:38

This - I often do 2 back to back and it is tough! I usually do 2 and then 3, but couldnt face it on Saturday and did 2 and then 1. That is actually a hard way round to do it, because you do quite a lot of arm/upper body stuff in l2 and then fo straight into the press-ups on L1 - I certainly felt it.

Really good to keep challenging yourself though. I kind of feel if I don't ache in at least one body part the day after a workout that I haven't tried hard enough and need to up the weights or reps!

alarkaspree · 02/05/2011 18:25

Do you mind if I hijack to ask you all some questions? I bought the 30 day shred DVD today. There was an introduction bit where Jillian presumably told me everything I needed to know but someone rang the doorbell and I don't seem to be able to get back to it.

So - handweights. How heavy should they be? I used tins of beans today which only weigh just over 1lb, and I found the arm exercises with weights fairly easy. So is 1kg a good place to start?

And if you do other exercise - I usually swim or run every other day - what's your experience of the best timing for the shred? I am a sahm with school age children so I have from 9-2 free most days. I don't think I could do running and shredding back to back at the moment, but maybe I could work up to it?

TooTiredToArgue · 02/05/2011 18:48

evening shredders!

Haven't posted for a couple of days, and had 2 days off from shredding , but back on the circuit today. Ache all over and still didn't manage all those jumping lunges. Gaaaaahhhhh!

D9, Level 3, so must think about the future. Feel generally less flabby overall, but haven't done any measuring of late, so guess I should see what the tape measure says.

Welcome all new shredders!

Alarka I read somewhere that the optimum time to exercise is 9am i.e. 1.5 hours after breakfast. Think it's something to do with raising your metabolism for the rest of the day (she says vaguely). I could be talking rubbish, so probably better to wait for someone more learned to come along. For me, I prefer to get it out of the way earlier in the day - then can feel virtuous for the rest of it......Hope that helps. Smile

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 02/05/2011 19:17

notyummy, not ready for 2 and 3 yet! But a good idea to do 2 then 1, shall try that next weekend when I have more time and a few more sessions under my belt.

alarka, I use 2 or 2.5 kg weights at the moment, you can get reasonably priced weights in tescos, I got my 1 and 2kg weights from there. I think for most of the exercise 1kg may be too light, depends on how strong your arms and shoulders are, if you are a swimmer you will probably find you can go higher. As for the time to do the shred, I work so do the shred in the evening but early morning at weekends. If I were you I'd do it as earlier as you can, that way you haven't got all day to come up with an excuse as to why you can't do it!

way2serious · 02/05/2011 21:03

Hi!

I shredded today for the first time and can now hardly walk - is this normal?!

Should I have another go tomorrow even if I can't move?

notyummy · 02/05/2011 21:08

Yes! It is normal and keep going. Once you get warmed up it will ease off (a bit!)

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 02/05/2011 21:35

way2 perfectly normal to not be able to move much, when you do it tomorrow do some extra warm ups though, even if it's just a couple of minute walking on the spot and some extra stretches in the cool down, Jillian doesn't do enough in my view.

chocolateshoes · 02/05/2011 21:40

woo hoo did L2D2 today having already been for a long hike. Am finding L2 difficult though and get a lot hotter!

Alarka - unfortunately I usually have to do my shred in the evening once DS is in bed but yesterday managed the morning and much preferred it. Am using 3k weghts although found I needed to drop to 1.5 for those last weight ex in L1

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 02/05/2011 22:27

I haven't been strong enough to do it regularly. I seem to do it a day or two and then not do it for ages. Agh. How do you all find the time and motivation?

I got exactly three weeks till I am going home now. I think the bikini will have to stay here or I will have to go swimming somewhere that's not my hometown Wink

alarkaspree · 02/05/2011 23:05

Thanks for your suggestions about weights. I'm going to try 2kg and see how I go. They definitely seemed heavy enough when I carried them home! And I think you're all right about doing it in the morning.

littledolly · 03/05/2011 08:21

Today was D6 L1 for me and a real test as I am back at work. I prefer to exercise in the mornings, but get up at 6am as it is, so wasn't sure how I would feel about getting up at 5.30am to Shred. Anyway, I managed it, even after not having had a great nights sleep (due to strange dreams about Bin Laden Confused). Feel great now I am in work, so if I can manage to shred in the mornings, that will leave me time to have a long walk in the evenings.
Focusing on my diet from today, as it's much easier to do in work when I'm away from all the Easter eggs at home

Jacksterbear · 03/05/2011 09:11

wannabe my motivation is returning to work from mat leave in another 4 weeks and a wardrobe of work clothes that still don't quite fit! And finding time, well it usually has to be evenings after the dcs are in bed and before starting on dinner, housework etc. Have not let myself have a day off as scared that once I have a break will lose momentum and it will all go to pieces (am a bit of an "all or nothing" type person).

Well done chocshoes, littledolly and everyone else! Impressed at the 5.30 start!

knottyhair · 03/05/2011 12:47

Did L1 6W6P again this morning, and for the 1st time found it quite mentally tough to get through. Thinks its a combo of having had 2 days off from Jillian and feeling like I've got the beginnings of a funny throat. Did it though! Wow, 5.30 start littledolly!

BalloonSlayer · 03/05/2011 13:32

Gosh everyone's doing really well!

I haven't shredded all over the weekend, so I started again with a Level 1. For the first time ever I found it quite easy! (Phew, thank goodness for that)

alarkaspree · 03/05/2011 16:28

Have just finished L1D2. With proper weights I couldn't do all the arm exercises, I had to drop the weights to finish off. I actually didn't think I was stiff from yesterday until I started trying to exercise again, but I tried to run back from dropping the children at school - 1.5 miles - and couldn't manage to run all the way!

I'm also going to start no s diet again, which gave me really good results when I did it last year but my motivation disappeared after going on holiday. I'm 68kg now so we'll see...

Littledolly I am in awe of your 5.30am start. That is some motivation!

gracelesslady · 03/05/2011 19:03

L3 D2 done. :o

Momentarynamechange · 03/05/2011 19:47

Hello fellow Shredders Smile

Wow everyone is doing well! Anyone really aching, the first 2 or 3 days are the worst, then it gets better. I had to go downstairs sideways the day after my first Shred!

No Shredding managed today. Did manage 1 yesterday though, and 1 the day before that. If I can manage one tomorrow I'll be happy with that. 1 every other day should keep me ticking over Grin

Happy evenings all
