littledolly · 03/05/2011 20:25

I worry that I have set myself alot to live up to by getting up at 5.30 to shred! It may have been a one off but will update in the morning!!
Well done to everyone else - there is so much motivation on this thread!

way2serious · 03/05/2011 21:24

Did my second session today. How long does it take till it gets easier??

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 03/05/2011 21:33

way2, you'll probably ache tomorrow but after that it should get better....until you start level 2 Grin

gracelesslady · 04/05/2011 06:38

morning shredders

littledolly how did this morning go?

am off to work in a mo, and am going to walk there and then back home again tonight. L3 D3 tomorrow.

have happy days :o

trumpton · 04/05/2011 08:22

L1 D9---- feeling gooood . looking forward to L2 but I know from last year it's harder. Have gone from 11st 12lb to 11st 8lb and it's beginning to show. Walked to school and back (2 miles) yesterday and taught dancing from 12 til 4.15 .

littledolly · 04/05/2011 08:41

Managed my second morning of a 5.30am start and completed L1 D7, so delighted. While it is really tough to get up, I feel brilliant for the rest of the day afterwards, so will still aim to shred in the mornings. I leave the house at 7am and it's hard to get out of bed at any time, so need to be inspired by the bright mornings!

Used 2kg weights for most of the strength moves, but went back down to my usual 1kg for the last side lunge, arms out in front thingy.

My problem is that after a car accident years ago, I have no strength in my wrists, so cannot manage proper press-ups at all. Are there alot of wrist-bearing moves in levels 2 and 3?

Jacksterbear · 04/05/2011 10:30

littledolly sounds like you will struggle with L2 which has loads of plank-based moves, as does L3. Hmm not sure what to suggest, not really sure how/if it could be modified as I don't think doing it on elbows instead of hands would work for most of it. Anyone else got any ideas?

notyummy · 04/05/2011 10:41

Hmm, yes that could be a problem. There are quite a lot of squat thrusts, plank twists, walking press-ups, plank jacks and all sorts of horros in Ls 2 and 3. TBH, if it is something that could improve then it might be worth trying (i.e if they just need to get stronger and there is no medical reason not to push yourself, then give it a go.) If, however you have been advised that this is a weakness that will always be there, it might be worth thinking about something like Burn fat Boost Metabolism instead, which has hardly any floor stuff (one section is on the floor, but only a small part of that involves weight bearing on wrists.)

littledolly · 04/05/2011 11:31

OK ladies - thanks for that. To be honest, I have avoided doing anything wrist-based because they are weak, but perhaps I can work on strengthening them. I will try tomorrow to do as many as I can of the proper press-ups and try to build on that. May end up staying on L1 for longer than anticipated then before moving up to L2. Will see how I go.

alarkaspree · 04/05/2011 14:38

Littledolly, I remember one instructor in a class I did suggesting that people with weak wrists did some moves with a fist instead of a flat palm, so the wrist is kept straight. I haven't got anywhere near L2 yet so I don't know whether that would help with the exercises or not though. It might not be stable enough. Maybe putting your handweights on the floor and using them like handles might help?

I think on JM's website you can join free for 30 days, maybe you could join and email her to ask for suggestions for alternative exercises?

franch · 04/05/2011 15:39

Hello everyone, can I join in? I just did my first Shred workout and am feeling very exhilarated (though my arms are a bit trembly as I type Blush).

20 mins a day - it's doable, isn't it?

Sorry there's so much to read through - what kind of results are you all getting ... ?

trumpton · 04/05/2011 15:52

Quite agree with alarkaspree Use the weights as handles. I have very dodgy wrist ( managed to push radius and ulna up into wristbones when I fell off a chair ) Kepping wrists straight really helps me.

conquita · 05/05/2011 01:15

I have one week left until I leave for holidays! today I got up, set up the dvd player etc, went to the bedroom, though 'f*ck it' got my pajamas back on, walked into the living room, saw the dvd was ready to go, went back to the bedroom and put on my shorts and top and completed level 3! It takes some discipline to do it, but the feeling afterwards is so good. Tomorrow I am going to do level 1. I will post my measurements and the total weight I have lost next week before I leave. I have been shredding since December last year. If I had not taken measurements I would have given up shredding months ago. The scales are not a god indication at all showing what you achieve. Thank god I found you guys, you have all kept me motivated throughout the last 4 months or so.

notyummy · 05/05/2011 08:30

Well done conquita - sounds like you are doing brilliantly!

Franch - there are some great 'inch loss' stories on this thread and the previous Shred threads if you read back. I was already a relatively fit exerciser (running, circuit training, pilates) when I started, but have noticed a difference in tone in my shoulders, arms and legs. If you really want to drop the weight, then obviously what you eat is also key - and perhaps some additional cardio to add to the Shred would be good?

trumpton · 05/05/2011 12:19

L2 D1= sweaty me in a heap on floor. DD did L1 and L2 whilst i baby wrangled.

Momentarynamechange · 05/05/2011 12:34

Afternoon all Smile

Just dropping in say hello to all, and to cheer on all the Shredding work [woo, yeah, woop woop etc!]

Did levels 1 and 3 last night and hope to be able to do 2 levels this evening if I can be arsed

Interestingly level 1 is the only level that always makes me ache the next day in legs and bum areas. Levels 2 and 3 I don't really feel so much the next day, although I do hate Level 2 with a passion!

Hope everyone is having a good day

Momentarynamechange · 05/05/2011 12:39

Oh and hello Franch,

You really will see a difference! I haven't been dieting but have been doing the Shred on and off for the last few months. I noticed changes after even the first week or two. I never measured myself before starting, but there are definitely inches gone from my waist and my bum, my jeans tell the tale!

You'll feel great for it too. And 20 mins is definitely doable, unlike other DVDs which you have to set aside an hour or so for...

gracelesslady · 05/05/2011 12:51

L3 D3 done :o anyone else have bother with their fingers getting squashed when you do that plank row thingy with weights? i gave up and just did it without cos frankly, it was hard even without them!

have to skedaddle as baby has just woken up, but welcome to the new people and well done everyone - amazing job... amazing (said in scary jillian voice!)

Jacksterbear · 05/05/2011 12:57

gracelesslady yes same problem here, have ordered new dumbells with bigger looking end bits (here), to try to solve this, in the meantime am doing the same as you.

TooTiredToArgue · 05/05/2011 13:07

hello all

Well, good news is that I'm completely shredded! I have completed all 30 days and while I'm still not a size 8 like JelliBelli I've definitely lost inches everywhere. Feel much more energetic too.

Must just keep on with it as have holiday in August to look forward to. Going to order a couple more of Jillian's DVDs today to stop me getting bored. I'm thinking 6W6P and LFBM - maybe will alternate with 30DS, and up my weights a bit.

For those of you out there who've done 6W6P, how did you find the transition from 30DS? Much more difficult, or on a par?

Well done all the newcomers - I found level 1 OK, Level 2 dreadful, and Level 3 the most enjoyable (despite the jumping lunges). Smile

JelliBelli · 05/05/2011 13:44

Hi All,

Welcome to all the newies

Tootired I liked L1 6W6P and found it ok to transfer from 30DS. But L2 I found hard, up until the last few days, and to add insult to injury (well not really but you get my drift) I achieved my smallest results (total 4cm) yet while doing it Confused. I don't think I phoned it in much and was a drippy, sweaty heap each day...... (mmm, attractive!)

Having said that I generally like the strength/ab work and don't like the cardio so it may suit you better.

I haven't got round to it yet plan to order NMTZ but at the moment am doing the bupa C25K plan (did W2D2 this morning) alternating with L1 6W6P to balance the cardio. I have lent my 30DS to a friend Grin.

Franch I was a couch dweller having resisted DH invites to exercise for years and years. In late January I started 30DS. I have continued to exercise since then and at my last measure-in have lost a total of 17 inches (Bust, Underbust, Waist, Hip, L thigh, R thigh, L arm & R arm) with 15 inches from only Bust, Underbust, Waist & Hip and now wear my size 8 jeans (thinkyou tootired Grin).

Commit to doing it - you'll be so pleased that you did and there's plenty of support here. Go on, you know you want to.

alarkaspree · 05/05/2011 18:29

Just finished L1D4. Today was the first day I could do all the arm raising exercises in the last strength set, forget what they're called. And I don't ache as much. So, progress! No improvement in my appearance though.

Momentarynamechange · 05/05/2011 19:58

Give it between 1 week to 2 weeks (at most) Alarkaspree and you'll start noticing changes. It's really motivating when that happens, spurs you on to keep going Smile

Didn't manage my 2 levels, today, but did do L2 and that was quite enough! Want to squeeze in a L3 tomorrow before friend arrives for the weekend.

Anyone struggling with the weights and that L3 move (last strength circuit), would wrist weights be an option? I suggested it way back and someone did try it out, but I can't remember whether the feedback was good or bad - damn my porridge brain Grin.

Happy evenings all

JelliBelli · 05/05/2011 20:24

Can't you just place the weight next to your hand and pick it up as you lift your hand? it'd only slow you a fraction.

CJMommy · 05/05/2011 22:06

Just marking my place whilst eating the last of the chocolate eggs!
I've read this thread and have been indpired to do something that actually appears achievable! I am just awaiting delivery of my DVD then off I go!!

Definatelt need to do something - my DD is 4 months old - lost a stone after giving birth and had 10lbs to go.......then got comfy on the sofa and gained 10lbs Shock. So shredding coupled with a slimming world type eating plan should see me loose the 2 stone I need to be at my ideal weight..........now, where did I put my will power????
